Nellie May Hester, age 83, died Thursday, May 1, 1997 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
She is survived by one daughter, Marilyn Hester of Marion; one sister, Margaret Hester of Marion; two sisters-in-law, Be Etta Hester of Marion and Willie Hester of Fort Pierce, Fla.; one niece, Karen Hester of Marion; two nephews, Michael Hester of Greensboro, N.C., and James Hester of Fort Pierce, Fla.
Graveside services will be held today, May 3, at 10 a.m. at Rose Lawn Cemetery with the Rev. Neville Mozingo officiating. Hopkins
Susie Elizabeth Hopkins, age 91, died Wednesday, April 30, 1997 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mrs. Hopkins was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Paul Hopkins and was a member of the Lowman Valley Church of the Brethren in Marion.
Survivors include three sons, Nathan Hopkins, the Rev. Glen Hopkins, both of Marion, and Charles Hopkins, Chilhowie; two daughters, Jean White, Marion, and Mrs. Wayne (Faye) Wright, Greenville, Tenn.; two sisters, Alice Perkins, West Grove, Penn., and Ellen Leonard, Augusta, Ga.; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted today, May 3, at 11 a.m. in Barnett's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Steve Hutton officiating. Interment will follow in the Laurel Springs Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Marion Life Saving Crew.

Sherman Eugene Lamie, age 62, of Rich Valley, died Wednesday, April 30, 1997 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
He was a lifelong resident of Smyth County and was a retired maintenance worker with the Smyth County School System.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth N. Lamie; one son, Sherman Charles Lamie, Rich Valley.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today, May 3, in Farris Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Glenn Powers officiating. Burial will be in Mt. View Baptist Cemetery, Meadowview.

Mitchell
Oakie Martin Mitchell, age 79, of Tazewell, formerly of Tannersville, died Thursday, May 1, 1997 at a Tazewell hospital.
She was born Nov. 14, 1917 in Wythe County, the daughter of the late Robert Fred and Bertie Kate Hagy Martin. She was a member of the First Church of God at North Tazewell.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, William Henry Mitchell; her second husband, Edward Guy Turley; six brothers: Lee Martin, Carl Martin, Sam Martin, Robert Martin, Clinton Martin, and Paul Martin.
Survivors include four sons: William Roger Mitchell of Mooresville, N.C., Waymond Mitchell of Bluefield, Woodrow Mitchell of Newport News, and Bane Mitchell of Glade Spring; one daughter, Carol Mitchell Worley of Saltville; two brothers, Fred Martin of Lakeland, Fla., and James Martin, Carthage, Texas; three sisters, Mary Martin Russell, Marion, Mildred Martin Woodward, Nokesville, and Mattie Martin Hazlett, Manassas; nine grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 4, at Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell with the Rev. Robert Buckles officiating. Burial will follow at the Grandview Memory Gardens on the Bluefield-Tazewell Road. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 9 tonight.

Maxie Lee Allison Cannon, age 75, died Sunday, May 4, 1997 in Wesleyan Arms Nursing Center, High Point, N.C. She was a member of Chilhowie Church of God.
Mrs. Cannon was preceded in death by her parents, Albert W. and Mary Jane Walls Allison, and one brother, Herman Allison.
Survivors include her husband, William Herman Cannon; two sons, Jack Cannon, Spartenburg, S.C., and Ken Cannon, Concord, N.C.; two brothers, Melvin F. Allison, Saltville, and Anthony Allison, Portsmouth; three sisters, Corrina Woodward, High Point, N.C., Marie Hayden, Glade Spring, and Evelyn Hayden, Saltville; two grandsons; six great-granddaughters; several nieces and nephews.

Cloa Mae Blevins Goff, age 72, of Saltville, died Saturday, May 3, 1997 in Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon. She was the widow of Willie Goff.
Survivors include two sons, Billy Goff and Jimmy Goff, both of Saltville; three daughters, Mrs. John (Irene) Chapman, Elkhart, Ind., Mrs. Glen (Gerleen) Helton, Saltville, and Mrs. Edward (Rita) Perry Jr., Abingdon; three sisters, Erma Thompson, Abingdon, Louise Eveler, Red Lion, Penn., and Leona Thompson, Kennett Square, Penn.; seven brothers, Earl Blevins, Ronnie Blevins, and Wade Blevins, all of Meadowview, Wayne Blevins, and Ivan Blevins, both of Abingdon, Ralph Blevins, Winter Garden, Fla., and Kyle Blevins, Wilmington, Del.; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in D.R. Henderson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Roger O'Quinn and the Rev. Dennis Banks officiating. Burial was in Mount Rose Cemetery.

Eugene Ward Hawthorne, age 88, of Chilhowie, died Thursday, May 1, 1997 in Smyth County Community Hospital. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Virginia McClure Hawthorne and was a member of Lebanon United Methodist Church, Chilhowie.
Survivors include two sons, William T. Hawthorne, Chilhowie, and Ward Mac Hawthorne, Elliston; one daughter, Mrs. Willis E. (Jane) Heninger, Salem; six grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 4, in
Williams Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. R.J. Cullop and the Rev. Charles E. Blevins officiating. Burial was in the Lebanon United Methodist Church Cemetery in Chilhowie.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 17, at 2 p.m. at Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Marion for Bernice R. Killinger. Following the service, her ashes will be sprinkled on her husband, Bill Killinger's grave at Round Hill Cemetery.

Dorothy Owens Lewis, age 56, died Monday, May 5, 1997 in Wellmont Hospice House, Bristol, Tenn.
She was a lifelong resident of Washington County and a member of
Green Cove Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Claude L. Lewis; one daughter, Delta L. Thompson, Roanoke; one son, Jerry Lewis, Miami, Fla.; two brothers, George Owens Jr., Damascus, and Richard Owens, Abingdon; two grandchildren, Laura Thompson and Dana Thompson; several nieces and nephews.

Laura Farmer Meek, age 79, died Sunday, May 4, 1997 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mrs. Meek was a native of Grayson County. She retired from the Southwestern State Hospital with 35 years of service. She was a member of the Liberty Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Harry Meek, Marion; one sister, Lurie Blevins, Whitetop; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 6, at 11 a.m. in Barnett's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Neitch officiating. Burial followed in the Haw Orchard Cemetery.

Mae Parker Reedy, age 95, died Sunday, May 4, 1997 in Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon.
She was a lifelong resident of Washington County and the widow of Morgan D. Reedy. She was a member of Konnarock Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Maxine Brewer, Forrestville, Md.; three sons, Blaine Reedy, Pineville, La., Bill Reedy, Damascus, and Ralph Reedy, Elizabethton, Ky.; two sisters, Lydia Hampton, Kingsport, Tenn., and Amelia Collins, Taylors Valley; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

Zollie Testerman Sanders, age 83, of Sugar Grove, formerly of Troutdale, died Monday, May 5, 1997 at Francis Marion Manor Nursing Home. She was born May 27, 1913 at Troutdale, the Fairwood Community, to Arthur and Lura Anderson Testerman.
Surviving are her husband, Paul F. Sanders, of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Edna and Roy Lane, Roanoke, and Nancy and James Riley, Chilhowie; one son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Kathryn Sanders, Mouth of Wilson; one sister, Ruth Hash, Abingdon, Md.; two sisters-in-law, Virginia Carolyn Testerman, Beckley, W.Va., and Dorothy Testerman, Sophia, W.Va.; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
