Boughman

Jewel Dinsmore Boughman, age 47, of Chase City, died Friday, May 16, 1997 in Duke University Hospital, Durham, N.C. She was preceded in death by one brother, Rodney Trent Dinsmore, and her grandfather, Albert Clear, Broadford.

Survivors include her mother, Janet Clear Surber, Chase City; her father, Samuel Dinsmore, Coal City, W.Va.; her stepmother, Shirley Dinsmore, Coal City, W.Va.; her grandmother, Mattie Clear, Broadford; two sons, Billy Gary Mitchell, Reading, Penn., and David Anthony Burgess, Waldorf, Md.; one sister, Anita Dinsmore Long, Clinton, Md.; four half-sisters, Melody Surber Morris, Chase City, Elaine Dinsmore Coalson and Karen Dinsmore Hensley, both of Coal City, W.Va., and Teresa Dinsmore Terry, Saltville; one grandchild, Billy James Mitchell; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted at 8 p.m. Sunday, May 18, in D.R. Henderson Funeral Home. A graveside service was conducted at 4 p.m. Monday, May 19, in Riverside Cemetery, Rich Valley.

D.R. Henderson Funeral Home in Saltville was in charge of arrangements.

Sword

Ruth Sword, age 76, of Meadowview, died Friday, May 16, 1997 in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.

She was a native of Smyth County and had lived in Chesapeake for 35 years before moving to Washington County in 1982.

She was a member of Pilgrim Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Claude H. Sword; one son, Claude Randall Sword, Meadowview; one daughter, Judy Sword Varnes, York, Penn.; one foster daughter, Cheryl Harrison, Chesapeake; her mother, Mary Taylor, Abingdon; one brother, James Harold Taylor, Hendersonville, N.C.; one sister, Margaret Helms, Abingdon; three grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday, May 18, in Farris Funeral Chapel with Pastor Robert P. Pruitt officiating. Burial was in Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 165 E. Main St., Abingdon, VA 24210.

Farris Funeral Service of Abingdon was in charge of arrangements.

Wilson

Annabelle Barger Wilson, age 96, died Monday, May 19, 1997 in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey Kent Wilson and one son, S/Sgt. Owen T. Wilson.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Harry and Barbara S. Wilson, Dayton, Ohio, and James and Betty G. Wilson, Marion; three grandchildren, Rebecca W. Whited, Danville, Ky., Thomas G. Wilson, Christiansburg, and Diane W. Catley, Blacksburg; three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 22, at Sharon Lutheran Church, Ceres, with the Rev. Joe Shumate officiating. Burial will follow in the Sharon Cemetery. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the funeral. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Sharon Lutheran Church, Rt. 1 Box 18, Ceres, VA 24318 or to the Bland Rescue Squad, Bland, VA 24315. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 p.m. at Newberry Funeral Chapel.

Wymer

William S. Wymer, age 76. of Norwich, N.Y., died Saturday, May 17, 1997 in the New York State Veterans Home of Oxford.

Mr. Wymer was born May 19, 1920 in Marion where he attended the local schools. Following his schooling, he joined the U.S. Navy serving aboard LSD Craft in the Mediterranean Theatre of Operations during World War II and participating in several major battles of the War. He was a self-employed carpenter and was a member of St. Bartholomew's Roman Catholic Church of Norwich.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Burleigh Wymer, and two sisters, Laura Osborne and Ann Walton.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Rita Hetherington Wymer of Norwich; one daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Robert Henry of Middletown, Ohio; two grandchildren, Greg Henry and Alicia Henry, both of Middletown, Ohio; one great-granddaughter, Kelli Henry of Middletown, Ohio; one brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Edith Wymer of Marion; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Virginia Totten of Atkins, Lucy and Gene Chambers of Guntersville, Ala., and Sue West of Greensboro, N.C.; his wife's sister, Eloise Hetherington of Norwich, N.Y.; his wife's brother, Robert Hetherington of Hamilton, Ohio.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 20, with a prayer service at 9:30 a.m. in the Fahy Funeral Home of Norwich followed at 10 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Bartholomew's Roman Catholic Church of Norwich celebrated by the Rev. John R. Cramer, Pastor. Burial followed in the St. Paul's Cemetery of Norwich with full military rites. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Norwich Emergency Squad, 31 East Main, Norwich, N.Y., or to the American Heart Association, 26 South Washington St., Binghamton, N.Y. 13903.

Dixon

Dicy Marie Cottrell Dixon, age 84, died Tuesday, May 20, 1997 in Smyth County Community Hospital. She was the widow of Howard Lee Dixon.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Rev. Billy J. and Phyllis Dixon, Critz; one granddaughter, Mrs. Larry (Jackie) Brown, Knoxville, Tenn.; one great-grandson, Logan Brown, Knoxville, Tenn.; several nieces and nephews; four special nieces, Etta Cottrell, Shirley Collins, Erma Collins, Glenna Thomas.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, May 23, in Cleghorn Baptist Church with the Rev. Avery Sheets and the Rev. Charles E. Blevins officiating. Burial was in the Cleghorn Cemetery.

Williams Funeral Home in Chilhowie was in charge of arrangements.

Hancock

Loma Lee Crowder Hancock, age 69, died Tuesday, May 20, 1997 in Smyth County Community Hospital. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Effie Mabe and Gracie Gravely. She was a resident of Marion for 35 years and was of the Methodist faith.

She is survived by her husband, M.R. "Doc" Hancock of Marion; one daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Chuck Redepenning of Concord, Mass.; two grandchildren, Elizabeth Redepenning and Charles Redepenning III, both of Concord, Mass.; four sisters, Mallie Dean of Pulaski, Myrtle Austin of Austinville, Velma Beasley of Hillsville, and Scottie Crowder of Mt. Airy, N.C.; two brothers, Forest Crowder and Martin Crowder, both of Hillsville.

Funeral services were held Thursday, May 22, at 11 a.m. at Seaver- Brown Chapel with Dr. J.N. Howard officiating. Burial followed in Rose Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Marion Life Saving Crew, P.O. Box 784, Marion, VA 24354.

Kent

Lois Atwood Kent, age 88, of Saltville, died Wednesday, May 21, 1997 in Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon.

She was a retired employee of Olin Mathieson Chemical Corporation and a member of Madam Russell United Methodist Church.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, May 23, in D.R. Henderson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Scott Robertson-Gouge officiating. Burial was in Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Glade Spring.

Laine

Kimberly Dawn Laine, age 16, of Meadowview, died Wednesday, May 21, 1997 at her home.

She attended Victory Baptist Church and was a student at Patrick Henry High School.

Survivors include her father, Charles D. Laine, Minnesota; her mother, Carolyn A. Moore, Abingdon; one brother, Travis Eugene Moore, Meadowview; two sisters, Mary Jane Thomas, Chilhowie, and Shana Ann Taylor, Abingdon; her maternal grandparents, Mary Keith and Lonnie L. Keith; five aunts and eight uncles; several cousins.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, May 23, in Farris Funeral Chapel with Pastor Paul Price and the Rev. George Turner officiating. Burial was in Forest Hills Memory Gardens, Abingdon. The family requests that contributions be made to the Saint Judes Children's Hospital, 332 North Lauderdale St., Memphis, Tenn. 38105.

Osborne

Virginia Ruth Osborne of Glade Spring died Monday, May 19, 1997 in Smyth County Community Hospital.

She was a lifelong resident of Smyth County and attended the East End Baptist Church, Marion. She was the widow of Fred N. Osborne.

Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Dave (Gay) Poston, Marion, and Mrs. Berkley (Lucille) Surber, Glade Spring; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 22, in Farris Funeral Chapel. Burial was in Old Glade Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Glade Spring.
