Price

Sanders Richard "Sandy" Price, age 64, died Thursday, May 29, 1997 in Smyth County Community Hospital.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran and a retired supervisor of the Marley Molding Corp.

Survivors include his wife, Lalia Smith Price; one son and daughter-in-law, Richard "Peanut" and Kim Price, Saltville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Josh and Tina Price Reynolds and Billy and Gail Boardwine, all of Saltville; four brothers, Jim Price, Saltville, Bob Price, Glade Spring, Douglas Price, Chilhowie, and J.C. Price, Bristol, Tenn.; one sister, Dot Price Frye, Saltville; four grandchildren; one step-grandchild; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, May 31, in D.R. Henderson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Benny Frye, the Rev. David Mumpower and the Rev. Dan Jividen officiating. Burial will be in the Elizabeth Cemetery.

D.R. Henderson Funeral Home in Saltville is in charge of arrangements.

Blankenbeckler

Maxine Blankenbeckler, age 74, of Sugar Grove, and Littleton, N.C., died Sunday, June 1, 1997 in Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C. She was born Jan. 13, 1923 in Marion to Conley L. and Myrtle M. Rowland.

Mrs. Blankenbeckler was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister.

She is survived by her husband, Marvin J. Blankenbeckler of Sugar Grove and Littleton, N.C.; one son, Marvin Blankenbeckler Jr., Sugar Grove; one daughter, Joyce Cox, Littleton, N.C.; six sisters: Bea Blevins, Belle White and Pat Weithman, all of Bucyrus, Ohio, Elizabeth Musser of Longview, Texas, Peggy Freshwater of Dayton, Ohio and Wilma Hoffman of Mansfield, Ohio; three brothers, Bill Rowland of Longview, Texas, Paul Rowland of Arab, Ala., and Waldo Rowland of Columbia, S.C.; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 3, at 2 p.m. in Seaver- Brown Chapel with the Rev. Tom Martin officiating. Burial followed in Ridgelawn Cemetery in Sugar Grove. The family suggests that any memorials may be made to the Sugar Grove Fire Department, c/o Jesse Choate, P.O. Box 108, Sugar Grove, VA 24375.

Seaver- Brown Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

French

Elizabeth Grey Taylor French, age 73, of Chilhowie, died Saturday, May 31, 1997 in Smyth County Community Hospital.

Survivors include her husband, the Rev. Kyle French; one son, Dennis K. French, Chilhowie; three brothers, Roy J. Taylor and William E. Taylor, both of Saltville, and Charles D. Taylor, Broadford; three sisters, Ethel T. Roe, Chilhowie, Annie Lee Overbay, Glade Spring, and Marie Roberts, Saltville; one granddaughter, Tara Elizabeth French.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, June 2, in D.R. Henderson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Neitch and the Rev. Jimmy Taylor officiating. Burial was in Middle Fork Cemetery, Chilhowie.

D.R. Henderson Funeral Home in Saltville was in charge of arrangements.

Humphrey

Ruth Painter Humphrey, age 88, of Rural Retreat, died Monday, June 2, 1997 in Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

She was a member of the Rural Retreat United Methodist Church. She attended the College of William & Mary and was a retired school teacher at the Rural Retreat Elementary School. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Douglas Humphrey Sr.

She is survived by one son, R. Douglas Humphrey Jr., DDS, of Rural Retreat; one grandson, Brad Humphrey, of Louisa; one sister, Doris P. Grubb, Rural Retreat; several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 5, at the Mountain View Cemetery in Rural Retreat with the Rev. Robert Countiss officiating. The family requests that those who prefer may make memorials to the charity of their choice. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight, June 4, at the Lindsey Funeral Home.

McNeary

Annie Belle Green McNeary, age 71, of Forestville, Md., died Friday, May 30, 1997 in Washington Hospital Center, Washington D.C. She was a native of Glade Spring and was the daughter of the late Hobart and Mary Glenn Vannoy Green.

Survivors include one daughter, Vanja McNeary, Forestville, Md.; a host of godchildren, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday, June 5, in Plum Creek Baptist Church, Glade Spring, with the Rev. Jasper Burrell officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Hills Memory Gardens, Abingdon. A viewing will be held one hour before services.

Marshall Funeral Home, Suitland, Md., and Williams Funeral Home in Chilhowie, are in charge of arrangements.

McNew

Betty Cahill McNew, age 63, of Roanoke, died Friday, May 30, 1997 in Community Hospital, Roanoke.

She was a native of Saltville and had lived in Roanoke for 27 years. She was of the Methodist faith and was the widow of Charles E. McNew. She was also preceded in death by her father, Albert "Brub" Cahill; and one sister-in-law, Loretta Cahill.

Survivors include one daughter, Darla McNew, Roanoke; one son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Trudy McNew Jr., Roanoke; her mother, Katherine Cahill, Bristol; two brothers, Jim Cahill, Lexington, Ky., and Bill Cahill, Broadford; three sisters, Mary Arnold, Bristol, Tenn., JoAnn Cahill, Bristol, and Dee Boyd, Abingdon; three grandchildren, Brad, Leesee and Kali; two brothers-in-law, Lefty Arnold and Bo Boyd; her sister-in-law, Sharon Cahill; special friends, Brenda Hudgins and family; she is also survived by Rosa Irwin; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were conducted at 4 p.m. Monday, June 2, in Mt. Rose Cemetery, Glade Spring, with the Rev. Bill Cahill officiating.

Farris Funeral Service in Abingdon was in charge of arrangements.

Orr

Isaac Weaver Orr Jr., age 79, died Monday, June 2, 1997 at his home in Elizabethton, Tenn.

He was a native of Saltville and a member of First United Methodist Church in Elizabethton. He was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. Alva D. Orr.

He was a former chemist with North American Rayon Corporation and a retired teacher of electronics with Northeast State Technical Institute.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Sutton Orr; one sister, Mary Ellen Arnold, Chattanooga, Tenn.; one sister-in-law, Sylvia D. Orr, Port St. Lucy, Fla.; five nephews: Denton and Roger Orr, Tom Arnold, Keith and Richard Sutton; two nieces, Geri Gaynor and Brenda Cox; a goddaughter, Lisa Hendrich; special friends, James and Shirley Hughes, Weldon Stone and Grayton Riggs.

Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today, June 4, in Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, with the Rev. Ken LaDuke officiating. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 5, in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 9:50 a.m. Thursday for the graveside services. The family will receive friends from 6-8 tonight in Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel.

Osborne

Lockie Jeanette Osborne, age 53, of Chilhowie, died Monday, June 2, 1997 at her home. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Damascus.

She is survived by her husband, John P. Osborne, Chilhowie; four daughters, Rosa Thomas, Chilhowie, Diane Lyman, Piney Flats, Tenn., Rebecca Belcher, Bristol, Tenn., Kathy Norris, Abingdon; one son, Joseph McClanahan, Glade Spring; her mother, Dixie B. Tolbert, Chilhowie; 13 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, June 4, at the Newberry Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Paul Maye officiating. Burial will follow in the Grosses Creek Cemetery.

Newberry Funeral Home in Chilhowie is in charge of arrangements.
