Church

George Lawrence Church, 80, of Salem, died Tuesday, July 15, 1997 in the VA Medical Center, Salem. He was a World War II veteran.

Survivors include one sister, Elizabeth Church, Roanoke; one nephew.

A military graveside service was conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, July 18, in Old Glade Cemetery, Glade Spring, with military rites conducted by Saltville VFW Post #7328 and Marion VFW Post #4667.

D.R. Henderson Funeral Home in Saltville was in charge of arrangements.

Coe

Katherine McCormick Coe, 78, died Wednesday, July 16, 1997 in the Smyth County Community Hospital. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Glenn McCormick and her second husband, John Franklin Coe.

She was a former employee of the Town House Hosiery Mill of Burlington Industries, Chilhowie, and a member of the First Church of God, Chilhowie.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, W. Scott and Claudine McCormick, Chilhowie; one stepdaughter, Betty White, Saint Petersburg, Fla.; one brother and sister-in-law, William and Helen Ratliff Sr., Kernersville, N.C.; one sister and brother-in-law, Gladys and John Love, Chilhowie; one granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Victoria and Luther Williams, Chilhowie; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. today, July 19, in First Church of God, Chilhowie, with Pastor Bobby Dunn officiating. Burial will be in the Saint James Cemetery, Chilhowie. Flowers will be appreciated or memorial contributions may be made to the First Church of God, P.O. Box 198, Chilhowie, VA 24319. The body will be taken to the church one hour before service.

Williams Funeral Home in Chilhowie is in charge of arrangements.

Harrington

Warren G. Harrington, 75, of Sugar Grove, died Tuesday, July 15, 1997 at the Bowman Gray Medical Hospital in Winston-Salem, N.C.

He is survived by one daughter, Phyllis Pennington of Peroria, Ariz.; four sons: Lewis Harrington of Sugar Grove, Fred Harrington of Lexington, Harold Harrington of Cornelius, N.C., and Rick Harrington of Waysons Corner, Md.; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; one brother, Paul Harrington of Burlington, N.C.; four sisters, Grey Medley of Burlington, N.C., Lola Taylor of Knoxville, Tenn., Rena Russell of Marion, and Frieda Stamper of Raleigh, N.C.

Funeral services were held Friday, July 18, at 2 p.m. at Seaver- Brown Chapel with the Rev. Kenny Price officiating. Burial followed in Hutton-Cox Cemetery in Sugar Grove. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Joyce Blevins, P.O. Box 905, Marion, VA 24354.

Seaver- Brown Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Killinger

Frances Barker Killinger, 62, died Wednesday, July 16, 1997 in Smyth County Community Hospital.

She is survived by her husband, John Killinger of Marion; two daughters, Mary Stack of Marion, and Amy Rich of Chilhowie; one son, David Killinger of Alexandria; one brother and sister-in-law, Jackie and Tove Barker of Marion; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Edith Groseclose of Clearwater, Fla., Iris Catron of Marion, and Paul McCormick of Orlando, Fla.; three grandchildren, Logan Stack, Kelly Rich, and Mitchell Killinger; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held today, July 19, at 11 a.m. at Seaver- Brown Chapel with the Rev. George W. Mowrey officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Joyce Blevins, P.O. Box 905, Marion, VA 24354.

King

Susanne Bruce King, 46, died Wednesday, July 16, 1997 at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.

She is survived by her husband, Forrest F. King Jr. of Marion; one daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Ray Mitchem of Rural Retreat; one grandson, Jonathan Mitchem, Rural Retreat; her parents, Perry and Jane Bruce of Seven Mile Ford; two sisters, Pat Foster of Abingdon, Betty Hatton and husband Norman of Hebron, Md.; one sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Oscar J. Burkett Jr. and Linda K. Burkett of Groseclose; her mother-in-law, Ruth S. King of Marion; a very special friend, Shirley Cook; several nieces and nephews; many special friends.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 20, at 2 p.m. at Seaver- Brown Chapel with the Rev. George W. Mowrey and the Rev. Aubrey Whitlow Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Thomas Cemetery, Marion. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Seaver- Brown Chapel.

Paul

Frederick W. Paul Jr., 62, died June 29, 1997 at his home in Citrus Heights, Calif. He was formerly of Saltville and Marion.

Survivors include his wife, Darlene S. Paul; two daughters, Ellen Nipper, Marion, and Lisa Cederberg, Citrus Heights, Calif.; one sister, Dr. Geraldine W. Paul, Sun City, Ariz.; two grandchildren.

Memorial services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 27, in Mount Carmel United Methodist Church in Atkins.

Smith

Sherman S. Smith Sr., 84, died Wednesday, July 16, 1997 at his home in Meadowview.

He was a lifelong resident of Washington County and was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Abingdon. He was also a farmer.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Jane Smith; one son, Sherman S. Smith Jr., Marion; one daughter, Selma Jane Swiney, Abingdon; two half-sisters, Sylvia Phipps and Jean Stevens, both of Westerville, Ohio; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be conducted at 11 a.m. today, July 19, in Christ the King Catholic Church with the Rev. Robert Krenik and Pastor Sherrell Dunn officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memory Gardens in Abingdon.

Farris Funeral Service in Abingdon is in charge of arrangements.

Teaster

Linda Blevins Teaster, 43, died Wednesday, July 16, 1997 in Smyth County Community Hospital.

She is survived by her husband, David Teaster of Marion; two daughters, Kimberly VanHoy of Mountain City, Tenn., and Sabrina Teaster of Marion; one sister, Phyllis Tibbs of Sugar Grove; three brothers, Charles (Jody) Blevins of Green Cove, Howard Blevins of Marion, and David Blevins of Front Royal; one grandchild, Matthew VanHoy; one goddaughter, Lakyn Levitt; one very special friend, Karen Armbrister; several nieces and nephews including three special nephews, Luke Tibbs, Bryan Tibbs and Cody Blevins; her mother-in-law, Ruth Teaster of Marion.

Funeral services will be held today, July 19, at 2 p.m. at Seaver- Brown Chapel with the Rev. Mike Sage and the Rev. Steve Hutton officiating. Burial will follow in the Lowman Valley Cemetery.

Campbell

Daphine Whillock Campbell, age 74, of Rich Valley, died Sunday, July 20, 1997 in Smyth County Community Hospital. She was the widow of Grundy Sanders "San" Campbell. She was a member of the Rich Valley Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Sandra Campbell Elswick and husband Kevin of Chilhowie; two sons, Richard Noel Campbell and fiancée, Jody Hogston and son, Derek, and William Campbell, all of Rich Valley; three grandchildren, Ellen Marie Campbell, Brandon Lee Elswick and Whitney Shea Elswick.

Funeral services will be held today, July 23, at 11 a.m. at the Rich Valley Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Rich Cardot officiating. Burial will follow in the Rich Valley Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The body will be taken to the church one hour before the service. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Saltville Rescue Squad, Drawer D, Saltville, VA 24370.
