Worley

Kenneth D. Worley, age 45, formerly of Saltville, died Sunday, July 20, 1997 in Tallahassee, Fla.

He was self-employed as a synthetic stucco and drywall applier and was a member of Bible Believers Fellowship Church, serving as deacon.

Survivors include his wife, Sherry Anne Sackwitz Worley; one son, Charles Ruben Jowers, High Springs, Fla.; two daughters, Rachael Anne Worley, Tallahassee, Fla., and Bobbie Temples, Iron City, Ga.; his mother, Ruth Burgess Worley, Saltville; two brothers, Eddie Worley and Mike Worley, both of Saltville; three sisters, Betty Jean Frye, Saltville, Patsy Nietro and Brenda Simpkins, both of Tallahassee, Fla.; three grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 22, in Bible Believers Fellowship Church in Tallahassee, Fla.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, July 25, in D.R. Henderson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Charles Blevins officiating. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Hogston

Billy Hogston, age 64, died Thursday, July 24, 1997 at his home in Saltville.

He was a member of Midway Memorial Chapel Church and retired from Merillat Industries.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Hayden Hogston; four sons, Eddie C. Hogston, Michael S. Hogston, Nathan S. Hogston and Jonathan W. Hogston, all of Saltville; three grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted today, July 26, at 1 p.m. in Midway Memorial Chapel Church in Saltville with the Rev. Bobby Briggs officiating. Burial will be in Elizabeth Cemetery.

D.R. Henderson Funeral Home in Saltville is in charge of arrangements.

McKinney

Nancy E. McKinney, age 57, of Chilhowie, died Thursday, July 24, 1997 in Smyth County Community Hospital. She was a member of Chilhowie Church of God.

Survivors include her mother, Thelma H. McKinney, Chilhowie; one brother, James F. McKinney, Dublin.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, July 26, in Chilhowie Church of God with the Rev. E.B. Ford and the Rev. Elbert Cox officiating. Burial will be in Elizabeth Cemetery.

O'Quinn

Anna M. O'Quinn, age 81, of Saltville, died Wednesday, July 23, 1997 in Smyth County Community Hospital.

She attended the Calvary Bible Church and was the widow of Albert O'Quinn.

Survivors include two sons, Dewey (Ken) O'Quinn, Mechanicsville, Md., and Wesley O'Quinn, Saltville; two daughters, Dorothy Buchanan, Mechanicsville, Md., and Louise Compton, Belleview, Fla.; two brothers, Claude Browning, Sidney, Ohio, and Gene Browning, Bellfountaine, Ohio; three sisters, Nan Barnes, Rockledge, Fla., Rosella Lowe, Lebanon, Ohio, and Joyce Weyhaush, Fulton, Miss.; 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, July 25, in D.R. Henderson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James Robbins officiating. Burial followed in Elizabeth Cemetery.

Umberger

Dorothy Repass Umberger, age 68, of Ceres, died Tuesday, July 22, 1997 in Wytheville as the result of an automobile accident.

She was a dedicated mother and active citizen of the Bland County community. She was a member of the Red Oak Church and UMW in Ceres. Mrs. Umberger was a former postmaster and employee of the U.S. Postal Service in Ceres with a total of 26 years of service and was a member of the N.A.R.F.E. She was a member of the Bland County Planning Commission, and served on the Board of Directors of the Bland County Historical Society, a member of the committee for the Festival of Leaves, and the Bland County Fair Association.

She was a master quilter and one of the founding members of the Hands All Around Quilt Club. Her quilts were displayed in Germany, Dollywood and published in national quilt books. She was recognized for her masterful quilt work with numerous awards.

Mrs. Umberger was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Leslie Umberger.

She is survived by two daughters and son-in-law, Kathy and Lynn Bowlin of Atkins, and Lisa Umberger of Seattle, Wash.; one son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Deborah Umberger of Wytheville; one sister, Ola White, Sweetwater, Tenn.; five grandchildren: Cy, Ari, Staci, Valerie and Evan.

Funeral services will be held today, July 26, at 11 a.m. at the Red Oak Church with Pastor Joe Shumate, the Rev. Bill Schoeneman and Suzie Schadle (minister in training and friend of the family) officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The body will be taken to the church one hour before service. The family requests that those who prefer may make memorials to the Red Oak Cemetery Fund, the Ceres Fire Dept., or to the charity of their choice.

Wassum

Adarean Taylor Wassum, age 66, of Saltville, died Wednesday, July 23, 1997 in Holston Valley Medical Center, Kingsport.

She was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church and was employed with the Smyth County School Board, serving as secretary in Saltville Elementary School for 32 years.

Survivors include two sons, Mike Wassum, Tannersville, and Richard Wassum Jr., Saltville; two sisters, Frances Davidson, Abingdon, and Sue Smith, Saltville; one grandchild.

Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. today, July 27, in Lighthouse Baptist Church with the Rev. Benny Frye and the Rev. Danny Frye officiating. Burial will be in Mount Rose Cemetery.

Blevins

Lindey Paige Blevins, age 2, of Chilhowie, died Wednesday, July 23, 1997 from injuries received in an auto accident. She attended Chilhowie Christian Church.

She is survived by her mother, Karen Elaine Haga Blevins, Chilhowie; her father, Michael Dwayne Blevins, Ft. Chiswell; her sister, Lindsey Nicole Blevins, Chilhowie; maternal grandparents, Ambers and Renie Haga, Chilhowie; paternal grandparents, Gaither and Juanita Blevins, Chilhowie; paternal great-grandmother, Bessie Blevins, Chilhowie; several aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.

Funeral services were conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 27, at the Newberry Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Frank Branson and the Rev. Rick Blevins officiating. Burial followed in the Riverside Cemetery.

Cahill

Katherine Brickey Cahill died Saturday, July 26, 1997 at the Wellmont Hospice in Bristol. She was a native of Saltville and had lived in Bristol for the past 13 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Albert J. Cahill; parents, Will and Susie Brickey; two sisters, Elizabeth Totten and Doris Griffitts; one daughter, Betty McNew; one son-in-law, Elmer McNew; one daughter-in-law, Loretta Cahill.

She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Bristol where she was a member of the Sunshine Circle and Bible Sunday school class.

Survivors include two sons, Jim Cahill, Lexington, Ky., and the Rev. Bill Cahill, Broadford; three daughters, Mary Arnold and JoAnn Cahill, both of Bristol, and Dee Dee Boyd, Abingdon; one brother, William W. Brickey Jr., Rockford, Mich.; 10 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; several special nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted at 8 p.m. Monday, July 28, in Farris Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Orlando Salazar and the Rev. W.H. Martin officiating. Committal services were conducted Tuesday, July 29, at 11 a.m. in Elizabeth Cemetery in Saltville. Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to the Bristol Regional Speech and Hearing Center, the Trinity United Methodist Church Organ Fund, or to Wellmont Hospice House.

Farris Funeral Service in Abingdon was in charge of arrangements.
