Lee

Grace Miller Doud Lee, age 79, of Oxford, Miss., died Sunday, Aug. 3, 1997 in Baptist Memorial Hospital, Oxford, Miss. She was preceded in death by a son, Gregory C. Lee, who was a Captain in the U.S. Marines; and a brother, Owen Doud, of Hazleton, Penn.

Mrs. Lee was the retired Food Service Manager at Casey Elementary School in Jackson, Miss., where she lived before moving to Oxford in 1986. She was the widow of Charles Chester Lee and a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Oxford. She was Past Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 72 in Marion. She served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Pharmacist Mate Third Class.

Survivors include one daughter, Jeannette Lee Sobotka of Oxford, Miss.; one sister, Jeannette Doud of Hazleton, Penn.; one daughter-in-law, Sherry Norrell of Lawrenceville, Ga.; six grandchildren, John Sobotka, Elizabeth Sobotka, Anne Sobotka, all of Oxford, Miss., Gregory Sobotka of Portland, Ore., Kimberly Lee Brooks of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Chris Lee of Pensacola, Fla.; one great-grandchild.

Graveside services were conducted Tuesday, Aug. 5, at 2 p.m. in Oxford Memorial Cemetery in Oxford, Miss., with the Rev. David Prout officiating. Memorials may be made to Peace Lutheran Church, 407 Jackson Ave. West, Oxford, Miss. 38655.

Waller Funeral Home in Oxford, Miss., was in charge of arrangements.

Allison

David J. Allison, age 62, of Bristol, Tenn., died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 1997 in Bristol Regional Medical Center.

He was a native of Saltville, had lived in the Bristol area most of his life and was a U.S. Marine veteran.

He was a retired electrician with Hutton Electric and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife, Clara Thompson Allison; two sons, James Allison and Tim Allison, both of Bristol; one stepdaughter, Laura Shoemaker, Bristol, Tenn.; two stepsons, Travis Lyon and Jeff Chappell, both of Bristol, Tenn.; his mother, Mattie Allison, Saltville; five sisters, Alice Samaniego, Patsy J. Rust, Paige Dunford, Janice Messimer and Debra Six; nine brothers, Richard Allison, Tom Allison, Jonnie Allison, Don Allison, Ron Allison, Douglas Allison, Roger Allison, Rodney Allison and Elmer Lee Allison; one granddaughter; two grandsons; two step-granddaughters; a special friend, Coleen Love Lyon, Bristol, Tenn.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today, Aug. 9, in Weaver Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dennis Barnett and the Rev. Roger Boyer officiating. Burial will be in Old Glade Spring Presbyterian Cemetery. military graveside rites will be conducted by Patton-Crosswhite VFW Post 6975, Bristol, Tenn.

Weaver Funeral Home in Bristol is in charge of arrangements.

Atkins

Albert Gale Atkins II, age 56, died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 1997 at his home in Atkins. He was preceded in death by his father, Gale A. Atkins.

He is survived by one daughter, Debbie Atkins of Atkins; three sons, Gale Atkins III of Marion, Joseph Atkins of Wytheville, and Aaron Atkins of Salem; his mother, Marie T. Atkins of Marion; one brother, Stephen G. Atkins of Marion; three grandchildren, Kayla Renee Atkins, Andrew Atkins and Logan Atkins; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Friday, Aug. 8, at 11 a.m. at Seaver- Brown Chapel with the Rev. Marion Boggs officiating. Burial followed in Rose Lawn Cemetery. Flowers will be appreciated or donations may be made to the American Heart Association, c/o Debbie Rogers, 576 Fowler St., Marion, VA 24354.

Seaver- Brown Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Donham

Nancy C. Heffinger Donham, age 57, formerly of Greensboro, N.C., died Thursday, Aug. 7, 1997 at her home in Chilhowie after a long illness.

Mrs. Donham was a native of West Virginia and had lived in Greensboro, N.C., for over 20 years. She worked as a secretary for the U.S. District Court in Greensboro.

She had been living in the Chilhowie area since December. She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy J. Donham, and her father, Marvin E. Heffinger.

She was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include one son, Kenneth Donham, Greensboro, N.C.; one daughter, Christina Donham, Greensboro, N.C.; her mother, Eva M. Heffinger, Marion; two sisters, Judith Noble, Woodbridge, and Linda Harrell, Chilhowie; one brother, Jack L. Heffinger, Anawalt, W.Va.; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, Aug. 10, at 2 p.m. in Barnett's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Charles Blevins officiating. Interment will follow in the Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Barnett's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Pennington

Richard Lawrence Pennington, age 77, died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 1997 at his home in Marion. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Farmer Pennington.

Mr. Pennington was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Army. He was captured during the Battle of the Bulge and was in captivity for nine months. He was a member of the VFW Post 4667.

Mr. Pennington was retired from the Southwestern State Hospital and the Marion Correctional Treatment Center with 30 years of service.

He is survived by one son, Roger Darrell Pennington of Marion; three sisters, Irene Neitch and Edith Hall, both of Marion, and Helen Hall of Atkins; three brothers, James Pennington of Chilhowie, Bynum Pennington of Seattle, Wash., and Herbert Pennington of Marion; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Friday, Aug. 8, at 2 p.m. at Seaver- Brown Chapel with the Rev. Marion Boggs officiating. Burial followed in Rose Lawn Cemetery where military rites were conducted by Marion VFW Post 4667.

Seaver- Brown Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Sword

Walter Boyd Sword Jr., age 71, of Saltville, died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 1997 in Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon.

He was a retired store proprietor in Washington County and was a disabled veteran.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Flossie "Mae" Sword.

Survivors include five brothers, William "Bill" Sword, James Sword, Clyde "Pete" Sword and Eddie Sword, all of Saltville, and Jerry Sword of North Carolina; two sisters, Mrs. Roy (Freda) Olinger and Mrs. Ralph (Lois) Comer, both of Saltville; several nieces and nephews including special nephews, Kyle Sword, Richard Sword, Jody Frye and Rusty Nutter, and special nieces, Carol Nutter, Kay Frye, Cindy Sword, Lesa Sword and Stacy Sword; and a special friend, Debbie Tolbert.

Graveside services were conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8, in Mount Rose Cemetery in Glade Spring with the Rev. David Mumpower officiating.

D.R. Henderson Funeral Home in Saltville was in charge of arrangements.

Taylor

Bradley Stephen Taylor, infant, died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 1997 in Smyth County Community Hospital.

Survivors include his mother, Linda Sue Taylor, and his grandparents, William C. and Nina Taylor, Tannersville.

Graveside services were conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, in Crabtree Cemetery in Tannersville with the Rev. Elmer Cardwell and the Rev. Rick Cuddy officiating.

Colley

Edward Franklin "Curly" Colley, 69, of Walterboro, S.C., died Saturday, Aug. 9, 1997 at Columbia-Colleton Medical Center.

Mr. Colley was born Oct. 23, 1927 in Marion, the son of the late William M. Colley and Sarah Colley. He was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II and was a self-employed tree surgeon. He was a member of Peniel Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Joyce T. Colley; two stepsons, Charles E. Crosby Jr. of Walterboro, and David W. Crosby of Ruffin; three daughters, Elizabeth Ann Craven, Kathy Bazzel, and Patricia Smoak, all of Walterboro; one stepdaughter, Shirley Smoak, Walterboro; four brothers, Willis R. Colley and Fred E. Colley, both of Marion, Charles Colley of Greensboro, N.C., and Henry B. Colley of Max Meadows; one sister, Nannie E. Clark of Marion; 13 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 11, at the Chapel of the Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Clark Hughes officiating. Interment was in Peniel Methodist Church Cemetery.

Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home in Walterboro, S.C., was in charge of arrangements.
