Richardson

Harold Milton Richardson, age 82, died Saturday, Sept. 6, 1997 in Roswell, Ga. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia DeBord Richardson.

Mr. Richardson was a long time member of the Ebenezer Lutheran Church. He retired from Brunswick Corporation where he had worked for almost 30 years. After his retirement from Brunswick, he served as custodian for the Smyth-Bland Regional Library.

He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Bryan Powell of Atlanta, Ga.; one son, Melvin H. Richardson of Atlanta, Ga.; one sister, Virginia Walterrick of Vienna; one granddaughter, Emily V. Powell of Atlanta, Ga.; one sister-in-law, Katherine Williams of Atkins.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 13, at 11 a.m. at the Ebenezer Lutheran Church with Pastor James H. Bangle officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery. The body will be taken to the church one hour before the service. The family will receive friends Friday, Sept. 12, from 7 to 9 at Seaver- Brown Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ebenezer Lutheran Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 1799, Marion, VA 24354, or Hi Hope Learning Center, Early Intervention Program, 882 Hi Hope Road, Lawrenceville, Ga. 30243.

Seaver- Brown Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Smith

Allen Smith, age 74, of Glade Spring, died Thursday, Sept. 4, 1997 in Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon.

He was a retired employee of the U.S. Gypsum Co. and attended the Church of God, Plasterco.

Survivors include his wife, Eunice (Stallard) Smith; one son, Craig Steven Smith; one brother, Robert R. Smith; one sister, Vandell S. Minton.

Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 7, in D.R. Henderson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Price and the Rev. Douglas Elkins officiating. Burial was in Mount Rose Cemetery.

D.R. Henderson Funeral Home in Saltville was in charge of arrangements.

Combs

Robert Lee Combs, age 81, of Troutdale, died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 1997 in Holston Valley Medical Center, Kingsport, Tenn.

He was a lifelong resident of Konnarock, an Army veteran of World War II, and a member of VFW Post 4667, Marion. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eli and Bertie Combs.

He was a farmer and a member of Bethel Baptist Church, Troutdale.

Survivors include his wife, Naomi Blevins Combs; one son, Robert David "Skippy" Combs, Troutdale; one brother, Manuel Combs, Troutdale; two granddaughters, Melinda Jo Blevins and Rachael Danielle Combs; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today, Sept. 13, in Bethel Baptist Church in Troutdale with the Rev. Jerry Fritz officiating. Burial will be in Laurel Valley Cemetery with VFW Post 4667 conducting military graveside rites.

Johnson Funeral Home in Damascus is in charge of arrangements.

Henderlite

Willa Jean Henderlite, age 57, died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 1997 at her home in Atkins.

Mrs. Henderlite was a native of Wilkes County, N.C., but had been living in Smyth County since 1984. She was a member of the First Church of God in Atkins and was preceded in death by one son, Ricky Henderlite.

Survivors include her husband, Harlo F. Henderlite; four daughters: Robin Henderlite and Candy Henderlite, both of Atkins, Peggy Church and Margaret Hoggard, both of Lenoir, N.C.; three sons, Tim Harris, Lenoir, N.C., Wayne Harris, N. Wilkesboro, N.C., and Terry Harris, Hilton Head, S.C.; her mother and father, Willard and Delois Walker, N. Wilkesboro, N.C.; four sisters: Joann Ferguson, Iva Dean Osborne and Diane Laws, all of N. Wilkesboro, N.C., and Mary Lee Atkins, Greensboro, N.C.; two brothers, Junior Walker and Harold Walker, both of N. Wilkesboro, N.C.; six grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 12, in Barnett's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ron Whitener officiating. Interment followed in Rosewood Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations may be made to the Atkins First Church of God Building Fund.

Barnett's Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Kien

Ronald Frederick Kien, age 61, died Thursday, Sept. 11, 1997 in the Ridgefield Retirement Home.

Mr. Kien had been living in the Upper East Tennessee area prior to relocating to Seven Mile Ford. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force having served during the Korean War.

He is survived by several distant relatives and many loving friends.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Sept. 15, at 11 a.m. in Mountain Home Veterans Cemetery Chapel with interment in the Veterans Cemetery with full military honors. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.

Barnett's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Perry

Joann Eller Perry, age 58, died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 1997 at her home in Chilhowie.

She was a graduate of Lees McRae College, Banner Elk, N.C., and a graduate of St. Luke's Hospital, Houston, Texas, with a medical records librarian degree.

She was employed as a registered medical librarian with St. Luke's Hospital for 15 years, returned to Virginia in 1987 as an employee of Smyth County Community Hospital, and retired from Southwestern Virginia Mental Health Institute.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Ruby Eller of Chilhowie.

Survivors include one daughter, Deborah P. Simons, Chilhowie; two sons, Charles R. Perry Jr., and Stephen Wayne Perry, both of Houston, Texas; one brother, Jeffery Eller, Chilhowie; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three uncles, Edgar Eller, J.C. Hart and James Hart, all of Chilhowie; and one aunt, Edna Pennington of Chilhowie.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, at the Macedonia Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Blevins and the Rev. Dennis Eller officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service.

Newberry Funeral Home in Chilhowie is in charge of arrangements.

Waddell

Bob J. Waddell, age 53, died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 1997 in a tragic three-vehicle accident. He was a member of Abundant Life Christian Center.

Mr. Waddell was employed at King Pharmaceuticals in Bristol, Tenn. He served on the Board of Directors of Haven of Rest in Bristol, Tenn., and Habitat for Humanity in Kingsport, Tenn.

He is survived by his wife, M. Sue Osborne Waddell of Marion; one daughter, Suzanne M. Waddell of Charlotte, N.C.; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert C. and Angela P. Waddell of Athens, Tenn.; two granddaughters, Katherine Elizabeth Waddell and Hannah Grace Waddell, both of Athens, Tenn.; his mother, Lula Mae Waddell of Tazewell; two brothers, Randall J. Waddell and Donald R. Waddell of Tazewell.

Funeral services will be held today, Sept. 13, at 2 p.m. at Seaver- Brown Chapel with the Rev. Emerson Abbott, the Rev. Bill Leonard, and the Rev. Jim Wood officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield.

Seaver- Brown Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Culbertson

Clara Stanley Culbertson, 76, of Sugar Grove, died Sunday, Sept. 14, 1997 in the Woodbine Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Alexandria. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Holiday Stanley and Emory Culbertson, and one daughter, Gloria Wise.

She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Jackie Thomas of Bristol, Bobbie and Gary Barton of Spotsylvania, and Connie and Larry Stump of Marion; one son and daughter-in-law, Holiday and Kyleen Stanley Jr. of Sugar Grove; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, Everett Lilly of Ohio.

Graveside services will be held today, Sept. 17, at 11 a.m. at Little Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Clintwood with the Rev. Joseph Fuller officiating.
