McVey

Linda Darlene McVey, 32, died Sunday, Sept. 14, 1997 at her home in Saltville.

Survivors include her husband, Walter Calvin "Butch" Boardwine; one son, Michael McVey, Saltville; three daughters, Ashley McVey, Virginia Ann Boardwine and Whitney Boardwine, all of Saltville; her mother, Lena Virginia McVey, Saltville; four brothers, Joseph McVey, Abingdon, Jim McVey, Damascus, Charles Howard McVey and Jessie James Thomas, both of Saltville; four sisters, Mrs. Robert (Barbara) Wray, Mrs. Tommy (Virginia) Tuggle and Joyce Ann Rosenbaum, all of Chilhowie, and Anna Marie Vanover, Saltville; three sisters-in-law, Michelle McVey, Abingdon, Sally McVey, Damascus, and Angel McVey, Saltville; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted today, Sept. 17, at 2 p.m. in D.R. Henderson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Roger O'Quinn officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olive Cemetery in Friendship.

D.R. Henderson Funeral Home in Saltville is in charge of arrangements.

Myers

Joann Parsons Myers, 50, died Friday, Sept. 12, 1997 in Smyth County Community Hospital.

Ms. Myers was a native of West Virginia and had lived all of her life in Smyth County.

She is survived by two daughters, Dreama Osborne, Seven Mile Ford, and Emma Jean Gilley, Chilhowie; two sons, Tim Gilley, Valdese, N.C., and Eddie Myers, Marion; three sisters, Wanda Boyd and Kathy Roberts, both of Marion, and Billy Jean Crewey, Lexington, Ky.; one brother, Terry Parsons, Marion; a special friend, Corky Myers, Marion; six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 15, in Barnett's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Neitch officiating. Interment followed in Roselawn Cemetery.

Barnett's Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Robinson

William Harrison Robinson, 78, died Saturday, Sept. 13, 1997 in Smyth County Community Hospital. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ocie Havens Robinson and one son, William Price Robinson.

He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Martha Robinson of Sugar Grove; three daughters and one son-in-law, Doris and Doug Testerman of Atkins, Janie Goddard of Marion, and Marcia Hocker Smith and fiancé, Lawrence Williams, both of Morristown, Tenn.; 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Robert Robinson, Samuel Robinson and Benny Robinson, all of Marion; two sisters, Katie Whitt Hutton of Marion, and Bessie Mize of Coatesville, Penn.

Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 15, at 11 a.m. at Seaver- Brown Chapel with the Rev. Bryce Justice officiating. Burial followed in Greenwood Cemetery.

Seaver- Brown Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Atkinson

Beatrice G. Atkinson, age 87, died Monday, Sept. 15, 1997 at Lower Bucks Hospital in Bristol, Penn.

She is survived by six sons, Garnette Hoover and Bob Atkinson, both of Newportville, Penn., Paul A. Atkinson of West Virginia, Garland Atkinson of Fairless Hills, Penn., Ralph Atkinson of Florida, and Cecil Atkinson of Reno, Nev.; one brother, Buford McCoy of Calypso, N.C.; 19 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held today, Sept. 20, at 10:30 a.m. in Rose Lawn Cemetery.

Seaver- Brown Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Hutton

Mary H. Hutton, age 87, died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 1997 in North Carolina Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, N.C.

She is survived by her husband, Major B. Hutton of Marion; one sister, Sophia O'Dell of Charlotte, N.C.; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 19, at 2 p.m. at Seaver- Brown Chapel with Dr. William A. Slater officiating. Burial followed in Rose Lawn Cemetery.

Shores

Thelma C. Shores, age 98, of Fries, died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 1997 in the Blue Ridge Health & Rehabilitation Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, William McKinley Shores.

Surviving are two daughters and one son-in-law, Dorothy Shaffner of Fries, and Betty and Harlan Campbell of Greensboro, N.C.; one son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Wilma Shores of Galax; 18 grandchildren, including granddaughter Rita Bartley, 32 great-grandchildren, and 24 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Sept. 18, at 11 a.m. at Fries United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bob Billingsley officiating. Burial followed in Fries Cemetery.

Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home in Galax was in charge of arrangements.

Castellanos

Alfredo Serra Castellanos, age 79, of Glade Spring, died Monday, Sept. 22, 1997 in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.

He was a Washington County lawyer and a retired college professor.

Survivors include his wife, Sylvia C. Castellanos; one daughter, Sylvia C. Asturias, Philadelphia, Penn.; one sister, Josefina R. Castellanos, Miami, Fla.; one brother-in-law, Rene Carazana, Miami, Fla.; three grandchildren, Shaudy, Joe and Diego Asturias, all of Philadelphia, Penn.

Funeral services will be private. Memorials may be made to the Glade Spring Volunteer Life Saving Crew, P.O. Box 59, Glade Spring, VA 24340.

Farris Funeral Service in Abingdon was in charge of arrangements.

Lester

James R. "Chicken" Lester, age 85, died Friday, Sept. 19, 1997 at his home in Saltville.

He was a retired employee of Olin Corporation and a member of McCready United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth (Harris) Lester.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Tommy (Linda Sharon) Jackson, Mt. Airy, N.C.; two sisters, Bessie Blackwell, Saltville, and Lucille Waugaman, Roanoke; three granddaughters, Mrs. Robert Wayne (Vanessa) Green Jr., Mrs. Curtis (Rosetta) Johnson and Christy Jackson; three great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21, in Elizabeth Cemetery with the Rev. Robert Cook officiating. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice, Wytheville, Va.

D.R. Henderson Funeral Home in Saltville was in charge of arrangements.

Shepherd

Roger L. Shepherd, age 50, of Troutdale, died Sunday, Sept. 21, 1997 in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.

Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Casey Shepherd of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa and Keith Mitchell, Sugar Grove, and Sandra and Will Galliher, Abingdon; two sons, Allen Shepherd and Roger Lee Shepherd Jr., both of the home; his father, Mont Shepherd, Troutdale; one sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Ernest Blevins, Konnarock; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Tommy and Brenda Shepherd, Buddy and Barbara Shepherd, all of Troutdale, and Paul and Gloria Shepherd, Sugar Grove; three special grandchildren, Megan and Devin Mitchell, both of Sugar Grove, and Nathan Galliher, Abingdon; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted today, Sept. 24, at 2 p.m. in Bethel Baptist Church in Konnarock with interment in Laurel Cemetery.

Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home in Independence is in charge of arrangements.
