Hundley

Clara Keesling Hundley, age 106, of Wytheville, died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 1997 in the Wythe County Community Hospital.

She was a member of the Rural Retreat United Methodist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, George Norwood Hundley.

She is survived by one niece, Evelyn Keesling; four great-nieces, Carolyn Willis, Nancy Brickey, Patsy Carrier and Kitty McBride; two great-nephews, Julian Sisler and William J. Keesling; several great-great-nieces and nephews; special friends, James C. and Rachel B. Lindsey, Rural Retreat.

Funeral services will be held today, Oct. 25, at 11 a.m. at Lindsey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robert Countiss officiating. Interment will follow in the Mountain View Cemetery in Rural Retreat. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service.

Lindsey Funeral Home in Rural Retreat is in charge of arrangements.

Jackson

Dorothy Mae Jackson, age 79, of Chilhowie, died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 1997 in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon. She was a native of Smyth County and worked for D.G. Moulding Company until her retirement.

She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Bill "Susan" Tuell, Chilhowie; three sons, Jimmy R. Jackson, Elliston, Eddie Jackson and Michael Jackson, both of Chilhowie; one sister, Irene Lester, Vero Beach, Fla.; two brothers, Howard L. Brooks, Bluefield, and Bobby M. Brooks, Sandusky, Ohio; her ex-husband, James R. Jackson, Chilhowie; 11 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Friday, Oct. 24, at 2 p.m. in Newberry Funeral Home Chapel with minister Porter Riner officiating. Entombment will follow in the Mt. Rose Cemetery Mausoleum.

Newberry Funeral Home in Chilhowie was in charge of arrangements.

Osborne

Callie Neeves Osborne, age 91, of Damascus, died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 1997 in Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon.

She was a native of Glade Spring, the widow of David William Osborne and a charter member of First Baptist Church, Damascus. She was also preceded in death by her parents, William David and Willie Riddle Neeves.

Survivors include two daughters, Naomi McHone, Damascus, and Imogene Grubb, Palmyra; two sons, John E. Osborne, Almagordo, N.M., and Harold A. Osborne, Greenville, Ky.; two sisters, Ann Rupard, Chilhowie, and Dot Norris, Bristol; two brothers, Roy Neeves, Bristol, and William Neeves, Myrtle Beach, S.C.; 19 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, in the chapel of Johnson Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Lasley officiating. Interment was in Mock Cemetery.

Johnson Funeral Home in Damascus was in charge of arrangements.

Perkins

Maxine Dunford Perkins, age 84, died Friday, Oct. 24, 1997 in Smyth County Community Hospital.

Mrs. Perkins was a native of Smyth County where she lived most of her life. She was a member of the Adwolfe Freewill Baptist Church and was active in the Senior Citizens Group in Marion.

Survivors include two sons, Frank Dunford, Marion, and Denny Dunford, Astoria, N.Y.; five daughters, Elizabeth Haga, Patsy Walters, Barbara Testerman, Peggy Snider, all of Marion, and Audrea Moncrief, Corpus Christie, Texas; one brother, Neal Jackson Hutton, Galax; one sister, Josephine Pafford, Kingsport, Tenn.; 17 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, Oct. 26, at 2 p.m. in Barnett's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Sage officiating. Interment will follow in the Thomas Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Barnett's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Wynegar

Alice Pruitt Wynegar, age 75, died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 1997 in York Hospital, York, Penn.

She was a native of Saltville, an employee with the former Bonnie Ana Sportswear, York, Penn., and an examiner with the former Rondel Sewing Company, York, Penn.

She was a member of Manor Baptist Church, York, and a member of International Ladies Garment Workers Union, York.

Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy C. Hayden, York, Penn., and Peggy H. Knaggs, Annandale; three sons, Lyhue Wynegar Jr., and Lloyd W. Haydon, both of York, Penn., and Charles E. Haydon, Indianapolis, Ind.; two stepdaughters, Margie W. Hicks and Dorothy Woodby, both of Bristol, Tenn.; two stepsons, Roy Wynegar and Eugene Wynegar, both of Bristol, Tenn.; one sister, Deola Harman, Roanoke; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted today, Oct. 25, at 10 a.m. in D.R. Henderson Funeral Home in Saltville with the Rev. Benny Frye, pastor of Lighthouse Baptist Church, Saltville, and the Rev. Clarence Frye officiating. Burial will be in Mount Rose Cemetery, Glade Spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Manor Baptist Church, 806 West Princess St., York, Penn. 17404. The family will receive friends from 9 to 10 a.m. today at the funeral home.

Workinger-Semmel Funeral Home in York, Penn., is in charge of arrangements.

D.R. Henderson Funeral Home in Saltville is handling local arrangements.

Greever

Nell Wright Greever died Thursday, Oct. 23, 1997 at her home in Sanibel, Fla.

Mrs. Greever was a native of Fries, a daughter of the late Nina Byrd and Richard Kyle Wright. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Jennifer Lee Greever.

She attended Radford College and the Medical College of Virginia School of Nursing where she graduated in the class of 1946. Until her husband's retirement in 1991, the Greevers were, for many years, residents of Chilhowie.

Mrs. Greever was a member of the Chilhowie United Methodist Church. She served in the many capacities there including the last living historian of the church. She was instrumental in seeing the Old Sulphur Spring Cemetery restored and marked and was a former trustee.

She is survived by her husband, Dr. Donald L. Greever; one daughter and son-in-law, Nina Edwards and Victor Rosenberg, Framingham, Mass.; one son and daughter-in-law, William L and Roxanne Greever II, Dublin; one sister, Trula W. Campbell, Martinsville; one granddaughter, Jennifer Edwards, Santa Rosa, Calif.; five step-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, in Chilhowie United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mark McFadden officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Chilhowie United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 367, Chilhowie, VA 24319, or the Sulphur Spring Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 353, Chilhowie, VA 24319. The family will receive friends immediately following the memorial service in the fellowship hall of the church.

Lindsey

Alice Elizabeth "Betsy" Anderson Lindsey, age 66, of Anderson, S.C., died Friday, Oct. 24, 1997 in Greenville Memorial Hospital.

She was born May 3, 1931 in Galveston, Texas, the daughter of Major Glenn P. and Alice Frances Lincoln Anderson. She attended University Lutheran Church, Clemson, S.C.

Mrs. Lindsey was very active in various civic and social organizations in the Anderson and Clemson area. She was a mathematics instructor at Greenville Technical College with 27 years of service.

Survivors include one son, Lee L. Lindsey, Anderson, S.C.; two daughters, Dawn Lindsey Pursely, Rock Hill, S.C., and Ann Lindsey Lowe, Anderson, S.C.; one sister, Evelyn A. Gordon, Johnson City, Tenn.; four grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Oct. 26, at 3 p.m. at the University Lutheran Church in Clemson, S.C., with the Rev. Chris Heavner and the Rev. Steve Plonk officiating. Burial was held Monday, Oct. 27, at 11 a.m. in Rose Lawn Cemetery in Marion. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.

McDougald Funeral Home in Anderson, S.C., was in charge of arrangements.

Patrick

Lucy Juanita Peake Patrick, age 78, died Friday, Oct. 24, 1997 at her home in Chilhowie. She was a member of Chilhowie Church of God and was preceded in death by her husband, William Robert Patrick.

She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Frank "Mitzie" Sova, Marion; two sons, William C. Patrick and Robert Patrick, both of Chilhowie; two sisters, Lucille Heath and Elizabeth Anderson, both of Chilhowie; three brothers, Lewis Peake and Hugh Peake, both of Greenville, S.C., and Joe Peake, Chuckey, Tenn.; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 27, at the Newberry Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Barnes and Arthur Chapman officiating. Interment followed in the Middlefork Cemetery.
