Rabara

Mae Donnia Rabara, age 78, died Sunday, Nov. 2, 1997 at her home in Chilhowie.

She was a native of Pikeville, Ky., and worked as a nurse at the Smyth County Community Hospital for over 17 years.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Marion.

Survivors include five daughters, Shirley A. Ferguson and Kathy R. Worley, both of Chilhowie, Julia D. Guthrie, Spring, Texas, E. Carole Graham, and Geraldine Rabara, both of Marion; two sons, Edward Robert Rabara, Nanuet, N.Y., and Antino Alan Rabara, Chilhowie; 12 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held today, Nov. 5, at 2 p.m. in the Church of Jesus of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on Watermill Road in Marion with President Steve Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery.

Barnett's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Smith

Vernon Lee Smith, age 66, of Saltville, died Friday, Oct. 31, 1997 in Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon.

He was a retired employee of Virginia State Highway Department, a veteran of the Korean War and attended First Christian Church, Saltville.

Survivors include his wife, Pearl (Pierce) Smith; two sons, Michael Vernon Smith and Terry Lee Smith, both of Saltville; one daughter, Rita Kay Gordon, Saltville; one brother, William Reece Smith, Glade Spring; five sisters, Doris E. Poore, Frankie Swartz, Dottie Neal and Diana Dye, all of Saltville, and Zola Johnson, Meadowview; one grandson, Jacob Andrew Gordon; two step-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2, in D.R. Henderson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Williams and the Rev. Tim Trantham officiating. Entombment was in Mount Rose Mausoleum with military rites conducted by Saltville VFW Post 7328.

D.R. Henderson Funeral Home in Saltville was in charge of arrangements.

Wyatt

Pearl Snider Wyatt, age 95, widow of Robert Lee Wyatt, died Sunday, Nov. 2, 1997 in Birdmont Health Care Center in Wytheville. Mrs. Wyatt was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 4, at 11 a.m. at Seaver- Brown Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Mary K. Briggs officiating. Burial followed in Rose Lawn Cemetery.

Seaver- Brown Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Billings

Clarence E. (Lightening) Billings, age 82, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 1997 in the Bristol Nursing Home.

Mr. Billings was a native of North Carolina and had been living in Smyth County for several years. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army having achieved the rank of Pvt. 1st Class. He was a member of the Francis Marion VFW Post #4667 and had also worked as a truck driver for Roadway.

Mr. Billings was of the Baptist faith and was preceded in death by his wife, Ina Billings.

Survivors include two brothers, Bane Billings and Glenn Billings, both of Marion; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted today, Nov. 8, at 11 a.m. in Barnett's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Joe Powers officiating. Interment will follow in the West Cemetery with full military honors being rendered by the Francis Marion VFW Post 4667.

Barnett's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

King

Frank R. King, age 84, of Crockett, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 1997 in the Bristol Regional Medical Center.

Mr. King was born in Wythe County, the son of the late William Pyatt and Dovie Malinda Riggle King. He was a member of the Kings Grove United Methodist Church in Crockett and was preceded in death by his wife, Lula Rosenbaum King and a grandson, W.F. (Bill) King Jr.

He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Sam Lowe of Marion; one son and daughter-in-law, W.F. (Sonny) and Adair King of Crockett; one brother and sisters-in-law, Trent W. and Hazel King of Crockett, and Eva H. King of Arlington; two step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held today, Nov. 8, at 11 a.m. in the Lindsey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Rance Edwards officiating. Interment will follow in the Kings Grove Cemetery. The family requests that those who prefer may make memorials to the Rural Retreat Emergency Services or to the Kings Grove Cemetery Fund.

The Lindsey Funeral Home in Rural Retreat is in charge of arrangements.

Roberts

Sherman Clay Roberts, age 67, formerly of Marion, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 1997 at his home in Christiansburg.

He was preceded in death by one son, Dale Roberts; and one daughter, Moranda Dawn Roberts.

Survivors include four sons: Ricky D. Roberts, North Carolina; Mark A. Roberts, Gregory D. Roberts and Jody Clay Roberts, all of Marion; a special daughter, Sabrina Holmes, Saltville; nine grandchildren.

Private services will be held in Christiansburg.

Roe

Ernest Gilbert Roe, age 66, of Saltville, died Monday, Nov. 3, 1997 in Florida Hospital South, Orlando, Fla.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Roe; two sons, John Roe, Marion, and Ernest Roe Jr., Kissimmee, Fla.; three daughters, Micky Breeding, Aurora, Colo., Flafua Browne, Kissimmee, Fla., and Cathy Selshew, Orlando, Fla.; one brother, Jack Roe, Chilhowie; three sisters, Edith Phillips and Dorothy Dolinger, both of Marion, and Ruby Counts, Fayetteville, N.C.; 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, Nov. 8, in the D.R. Henderson Funeral Home Chapel in Saltville with the Rev. Dan Lawson officiating.

Burial will be in Middle Fork Cemetery.

Barker

Margie Barker, age 66, of Troutdale, died Saturday, Nov. 8, 1997 in Smyth County Community Hospital. She was born Feb. 19, 1931 in Ceres, to William Buck and Bessie Hayden Thompson.

Surviving are her husband, Herbert L. Barker of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Wil Robertson, Troutdale; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Ida Cullop, Sugar Grove, Nan and Ralph Vencille, Ceres, and Carrine and Garland Harrington, Marion; one brother, Blaine Thompson, Ceres; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m. in Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel in Independence with the Rev. Darrell Lambert, Rev. Kenny Price and Mr. Gilmer Greer officiating. Interment followed in Troutdale Cemetery.

Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home in Independence was in charge of arrangements.

Blevins

Hazel M. Blevins, age 72, died Friday, Nov. 7, 1997 at her home in Konnarock.

She was a lifelong resident of Konnarock, a retired seamstress from Mr. Casuals, Troutdale, and a member of Azen Baptist Church, Konnarock. She was preceded in death by one son, Ronald Wayne Blevins.

Survivors include her husband, Wayne L. Blevins; two daughters, Brenda Morrison, Konnarock and Joyce Christian, Seven Mile Ford; three sisters, Louise Hoback, Wytheville, Peggy Absher, Troutdale, and Faye Blevins, Konnarock; two brothers, William Blevins, Elverson, Penn., and Edward Blevins, Colonial Beach; two granddaughters, Ronda Blevins and Tina Taylor; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 10, in Azen Baptist Church with the Rev. Rex Hall and the Rev. Stephen LaPoint officiating. Burial was in Azen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be sent to the Mount Rogers Rescue Squad.

Johnson Funeral Home in Damascus was in charge of arrangements.
