Owens

Lantha J. Owens, age 61, of Meadowview, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 1997 in Wellmont Hospice House, Bristol, Tenn.

She was a lifelong resident of Washington County and a member of Barns Chapel Bible Church.

She was employed with Washington County School System as a secretary at Neff Vocational Center for 16 years.

Survivors include her husband, Elwood E. Owens; two sons, Darryl Owens, Meadowview, and Carson Owens, Blountville, Tenn.; one daughter, Mrs. Albert (Yana) Owens Minton, Glade Spring; her mother, Dora Johnson, Saltville; one brother, Howard Johnson, Saltville; one sister, Margie Robertson, Laporte, Texas; two daughters-in-law, Ginger Owens and Ramona Owens; seven grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 5, in Farris Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Leonard Hicks and the Rev. Roger Hearl officiating. Burial was in Baptist Cemetery, Glade Spring.

Farris Funeral Service in Abingdon was in charge of arrangements.

Robbins

Jonathan Earl Robbins, age 38, died Sunday, Nov. 30, 1997 in Marion.

Mr. Robbins was a native of Phoenix, Ariz., and had been living in southwestern Virginia since January. He was recently employed with Bob Evans in Wytheville and with the Petro & Flying "J" Stations in Fort Chiswell.

Survivors include one son, Jonathan Robbins; two daughters, Michelle Lynn Robbins and Christine Robbins; his mother, Betty Brown Robbins; his father and stepmother, Jessie Ray and Gail Robbins; three half brothers: William Pycon, Dave Pycon, and J.R. Pycon; and two half sisters, Virginia Rose Pycon and Jean Marie Tettiecord; and a special friend, Maryann Weaver Justus.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 4, at 2 p.m. in Barnett's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Sage officiating. Interment followed in Rosewood Cemetery in Rural Retreat.

Barnett's Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Smith

William Thomas Smith, age 53, of Abingdon, died Monday, Dec. 1, 1997 in Sierra Gorda, Chile, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

He was a native of Akron, Ohio, had lived in Abingdon for the past three years and attended Fellowship Baptist Church, Meadowview.

He received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Akron.

He was employed with Goodyear Akron Productions Division for 21 years and was construction engineering manager for Titan Wheel Corporation in Saltville since 1990.

Survivors include his wife, Mitzi Smith; two sons, Michael Smith, North Canton, Ohio, and Thomas Smith, Hartville, Ohio; one daughter, Anne Miller, Canal Fulton, Ohio; one stepson, Jason Bopp of the home; one stepdaughter, Jessica Bopp of the home; his mother, Virginia O. Smith, Massillon, Ohio; two brothers, James E. Smith, Massillon, Ohio, and Stephen R. Smith, Akron, Ohio; one sister, Joanne Ballway, Massillon, Ohio; two grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 5, at 8 p.m. in Fellowship Baptist Church with the Rev. Wayne Parsons officiating.

Farris Funeral Service in Abingdon was in charge of arrangements.

Tuell

Curtis Allen Tuell, age 54, of Glade Spring, died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 1997 in Smyth County Community Hospital.

Survivors include two sons, Eugene A. Tuell, Saltville and Curtis Lee Tuell, Meadowview; four brothers, Paul Eugene Tuell, Colorado Springs, Colo., David Wayne Tuell, Charles Steven "Bobby" Tuell and William Earl "Billy" Tuell, all of Chilhowie; two sisters, Margaret Ellen Hamm, Meadowview, and Christine Wyatt, Glade Spring; six grandchildren; eight nieces; 11 nephews.

Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 5, in D.R. Henderson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Benny Bowman officiating. Burial was in Baptist Cemetery, Glade Spring.

D.R. Henderson Funeral Home in Saltville was in charge of arrangements.

Williams

Eva Virginia Harris Williams, age 76, died Thursday, Dec. 4, 1997 in Francis Marion Manor Nursing Home.

She was the widow of Eulis Earnest Williams and a member of the Tate's Chapel United Methodist Church. She was also preceded in death by one son, Ronnie Williams.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Arnold E. and Charlotte Sutherland Williams, Hampton, and Luther P. and Elaine Williams, Chilhowie; four daughters: Mrs. Vincent (Lois) Gallagher, Aurora, Ill., Mrs. Arlis (Judy) Crutchfield, Mrs. Lee (Sherry) Hale, and Mrs. Weaver (Vicky) Cole, all of Chilhowie; one brother, Charles E. Harris, Hillsboro, N.C.; one sister, Madeline Keith, Chilhowie; six grandsons and three granddaughters-in-law: Bryan A. and Regina Heath Crutchfield, Luther P. and Vicki McCormick Williams Jr., Joel A. Williams, Michael D. Hale, Ryan W. Cole, Stephen and Misty Daugherty Crutchfield; two great-grandchildren, Aaron Heath Crutchfield and Carly Elizabeth Crutchfield; one sister-in-law, Winona Harris; one brother-in-law, Herman Keith.

Funeral services were conducted at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, in Williams Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Scott A. Robertson-Gouge and Pastor Bobby Dunn officiating. Graveside services and burial will be conducted at 11 am. today, Dec. 6, in Sulphur Spring Cemetery. Flowers will be appreciated or memorial contributions may be made to the Sulphur Spring Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 353, Chilhowie, VA 24319.

Williams Funeral Home in Chilhowie is in charge of arrangements.

Davidson

Ernest W. Davidson, age 87, of Glade Spring, died Sunday, Dec. 7, 1997 in Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon.

He was a lifelong resident of Washington County and a member of Plasterco United Methodist Church. He retired from U.S. Gypsum and was preceded in death by his wife, Mollie Boyd Davidson.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Charles "C.W." and Nancy S. Davidson, Glade Spring; one daughter, Eleanor Inscho, Stuart, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Dec. 9, at 3 p.m. in Farris Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Tim Graham and the Rev. Robert E. Cook officiating. Burial was in Mount Rose Cemetery.

Eblen

John Paul Eblen, age 62, died Saturday, Nov. 29, 1997 at his home in Lynchburg.

Mr. Eblen was born on Nov. 24, 1935 in Wytheville, the son of the late Samuel and Lila Garst Eblen. He graduated in 1957 from Virginia Polytechnic Institute where he attended on a basketball scholarship. He retired from the Internal Revenue Service with over 34 years of service. He was a member of the Hokie Club and the Exchange Club of Lynchburg, and was an avid golfer.

Mr. Eblen was a member of the Timberlake United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by one brother, Philip Eblen, and one sister, Sarah Eblen.

He is survived by his loving wife, Virginia Brumfield Eblen; two sons, John Paul Eblen Jr. and his wife Carmen of Newbury Park., Calif., and Steven Eblen and wife Pam of Saugus, Mass.; one stepdaughter, Maxine Clements and husband Tommy of Madison Heights; two stepsons, Allen Evans and wife Penny and Leonard Evans, all of Winston-Salem, N.C.; two sisters, Ruby Hollingsworth and husband Evan of Cambridge, Minn., and Joyce Cornette of Marion; five grandchildren: Andrew Clements, Brenda Clements, Brad Warner, Michelle Evans and Bethany Evans.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 2, 1997 at the Whitten Timberlake Chapel with Rev. James M. Tongue officiating. Burial was in the Fort Hill Memory Park, Lynchburg. The family asks that memorial donations be made to the American Heart Association, c/o Debbie Rogers, 576 Fowler St., Marion, VA 24354.

Medley

Gray Harrington Medley, age 88, widow of Clay Medley, died Monday, Dec. 8, 1997 in White Oak Manor in Burlington, N.C.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Pat and Janet Medley of Graham, N.C.; three sisters, Lola Taylor of Concord, Tenn., Rena Russell of Marion, and Freida Stamper of Raleigh, N.C.; one brother, Paul Harrington of Burlington, N.C.; two grandsons, Mark Medley of Louisville, Ky., and Jonathan Medley of Gibsonville, N.C.

Funeral services will be held today, Dec. 10, at 2 p.m. at Seaver- Brown Chapel with the Rev. Kenny Price officiating. Burial will follow in Hutton-Cox Cemetery in Sugar Grove. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Sugar Grove Baptist Church, P.O. Box 168, Sugar Grove, VA 24375 or to the Hutton-Cox Cemetery, Mr. R.G. (Col) Shupe, 5873 Sugar Grove Hwy., Sugar Grove, VA 24375.
