Hall

Janet R. Hall, age 65, of Damascus died Saturday, Dec. 20, 1997, at Bristol Regional Medical Center.

She was a lifelong resident of Damascus and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Damascus.

She is survived by her husband, Robert E. Hall; one daughter, Patty Thompson, Shalimar, Fla.; two sons, David Hall, Woodland Park, Col., and Robert Hall, Vinton; one sister, Hazel Watson, Konnarock; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two daughters-in-law; one son-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service was conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, at Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Brooks Peters officiating. Burial followed in Sunset Memorial Park.

Johnson Funeral Home in Damascus was in charge of arrangements.

McAllister

Elsie Miller McAllister, age 73, of Damascus, formerly of Whitetop, died Thursday, Dec. 25, 1997, at Watauga Medical Center in Boone, N.C.

The daughter of Charles G. and Ettie Dolinger Miller, she was born July 8, 1924, in Whitetop.

She is survived by her husband, Cecil G. McAllister; two daughters and sons-in-law, Evelyn and Herman L. Jones, Reidsville, N.C., and Joan E. and Jaye B. Baldwin, Whitetop; two stepdaughters, Rita Blythe, Virginia Beach, and Cindy Hayes, Roanoke; two sisters, Beulah Edwards, Hillsville, and Ruby Dillard, Jefferson, N.C.; seven grandchildren; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, Dec. 28, at 3:30 p.m. at Whitetop Baptist Church with the Rev. T.A. Pennington, the Rev. Warren Wilson and the Rev. Jody Blevins officiating. Interment will be in Byars Cemetery.

The body is at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home in Independence and will be taken to Whitetop Baptist Church Saturday evening. The family will receive friends there from 7 to 9 p.m. Friends and relatives may call at the home of Jaye and Joan Baldwin in Whitetop anytime.

Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home in Independence is in charge of arrangements.

Reedy

Betty Marie Reedy, age 74, of Chilhowie died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 1997, at Smyth County Hospital.

She was of the Baptist faith and was preceded in death by her husband, James Harding Reedy.

She is survived by a granddaughter, Betty Hamm, Chilhowie; five sisters, Betty Ward, Marietta, Ga., Patsy Bowman, Marion, Ruth Yule, Falls Mills, Violet Cress, Abingdon, and Lola Pennington; and three brothers, Douglas Cress, Chilhowie, Glenn Cress, Marion, and Roger Cress, Sherill's Ford, N.C.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, at Newberry Funeral Home Chapel with Elders Ben Blevins and Larry Blevins officiating. Burial will follow in St. Clair's Bottom Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

Newberry Funeral Home in Chilhowie is in charge of arrangements.

Vipperman

Anna Blanche Vipperman, age 67, of Wytheville died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 1997, at Wythe County Community Hospital.

A daughter of the late Andrew Jackson Vipperman and Eva Mary Schneider Vipperman, she was born in Smyth County. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Agnes Sluder, Fern Louise Vipperman and Crystal Marie Vipperman.

She is survived by four sisters, Luella Authenrieth, Rural Retreat, Virgie Whitley, Havre De Grace, Md., and Ruby Cook and Myrtle Zellman, both of Bel Aire, Md.; two brothers, Louis Vipperman, Rural Retreat, and William Clarence Vipperman, Dalzell, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, Dec. 28, at 2 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Chapel in Wytheville with the Rev. Stephen Tilley and the Rev. Thomas Bunting officiating. Interment will follow in Rosewood Memorial Gardens in Rural Retreat.

The family will receive friends at Barnett Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday.

Walton

James William (Billy) Walton Sr., age 75, of Glade Spring died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 1997, at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.

He is survived by his wife, Louvene Dowell Walton; four sons, James W. Walton, Damascus, George W. Walton, Smithfield, John A. Walton, Virginia Beach, and Michael L. Walton, Winchester; three daughters, Anita Mason, Mesa, Ariz., Linda Lenhard, Columbus, Ga., and Ada Pasdiora, West Des Moines, Iowa; one sister, Sibyl W. Davis, Roanoke; 22 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Williams Funeral Home Chapel in Chilhowie with Elders Howard Davis Jr. and J.D. Cleek officiating. Burial will be in St. Clair Bottom Cemetery.

Flowers will be accepted, or memorial gifts may be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Joyce Blevins, Treasurer, P.O. Box 905, Marion, VA 24354. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Williams Funeral Home in Chilhowie.

Williams

Marvin Williams, age 81, died Monday, Dec. 22, 1997, at Francis Marion Manor Nursing Home.

He was a member of Davis Memorial United Methodist Church of Atkins and the Marion Masonic Lodge #31 A.F. & A.M. He retired from Southwestern State Hospital in 1982, having worked there for 40 years.

He is survived by his wife, Eva Shuler Williams, Atkins; and one daughter and son-in-law, Marleen and Major Robert F.D. Alberts, Silver Spring, Md.

Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 26, at 11 a.m. at Seaver- Brown Chapel with the Rev. Calvin Tabor and the Rev. Neville Mozingo officiating. Burial followed in Rose Lawn Cemetery.

Seaver- Brown Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Blevins

W. Harlon "Bill" Blevins, age 59, of Cleghorn Valley, died Friday, Dec. 26, 1997, in Smyth County Community Hospital.

Survivors include his wife, Florence Sweat Blevins; one son, William Randall "Randy" Blevins, Marion; one daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Kenny Lambert, Roanoke; one brother, Ernest M. Blevins, Marion; two sisters, Linda B. Simms, Marion, and Gail B. Medley, Bristol; four grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29, in Williams Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Charles E. Blevins and the Rev. Floyd D. Nelson officiating. Burial was in the Cleghorn Cemetery.

Williams Funeral Home in Chilhowie was in charge of arrangements.

Hall

Willard Price Hall, age 60, died Friday, Dec. 26, 1997 in Smyth County Community Hospital. Mr. Hall served in the United States Marine Corp, was a Baptist minister and a local contractor. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jill Allison Hall; his father and mother, Herman G. and Clara Woods Hall, and a brother, Don Hall.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra Sprinkle Hall of Marion; two daughters and a son-in-law, Wendy H. and John Rose of Atkins, and Keri Lynn Hall of Marion; one son and daughter-in-law, Allen and Lori Fields Foster of Abingdon; one granddaughter, Kennedy Elisabeth Rose; five sisters and brothers-in-law, Linda and Bill (Dump) Hanshew, Zana and Jackie Fisher, both of Atkins, Frankie and Harold Minnick of Chilhowie, Brenda H. Blevins and Dorotha H. Elswick, both of Marion; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Grant S. Sr. and Olivene Hall, Fred E. and Pricilla Hall, James (Pete) and Mary Ann Hall and Ronald R. and Shirley Hall, all of Marion; 29 nieces and nephews, 41 great-nieces and nephews, and two great-great-nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 29, at 2 p.m. at Faith Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. J.B. Arthur, the Rev. Joe Arthur, and the Rev. Mark Lundy officiating. Burial followed in Round Hill Cemetery.

Seaver- Brown Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.
