ARNOLD
John Arnold, 42, of Richmond, died September 24, 2000. He is survived by his partner in life, Elaine "Red" Kelly and her son, Eddie; parents, Rev. Jack H. and Jo Ann Arnold; sister and brother-in-law, Catherine Anne and Robert Hamilton, Mary Ann and Jeff Mason; one niece. John was an endearing employee of Capitol One Maxim Group. His remains rest at Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Road (Rt. 10), where the family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Olive Branch Cemetery, Portsmouth, Va.

BELL
Emily Azile Brooks Singleton Bell departed this life Sunday, September 24, 2000 at the age of 89. She was the widow of Archie Leroy Bell and survived by seven children, Howard N. Singleton Jr. and wife, Ruby, Emily Sue Conway, Bunnie Gray Tribble and husband, Curtis, Maria Ellen Milton and husband, Paul, Virginia S. Farmer, Billy Leroy Bell and wife, Carol, Tina Bell Milhoda and husband, Billy; one sister, Louise Twohey of Charlottesville, Va. She was preceded in death by daughter, Dorcus Ann Bosher. Azile Bell had 22 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Bell was a past president of the American Legion Post 137 and an active member since 1948. In 1985, she was named Lady of the Year of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a member of Senior Friends at Chippenham Hospital. Services will be private. Memorial service notice later. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Forest View Rescue Squad, 5327 Forest Hill Ave., Richmond, Va. 23225.

BERNERT
Jennet Roberts Bernert, 62, of Norfolk, with the help of God, won her battle with Lou Gerhrig’s disease on August 27, 2000. She is survived by her husband, Lawrence A. Bernert Jr., MD of Norfolk; three children, seven grandchildren. Other survivors include her mother-in-law, Anne F. Bernert; and her brother-in-law, Robert J. Bernert, both of Richmond.

BISHOFF
Helen Hudgel Bishoff passed away September 24, 2000. She was born April 19, 1910 in Berkley County, W.Va., the daughter of David R. Hudgel and Lucie McKee Hudgel. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Donald B. Bishoff. Her children include a son, Donald B. Bishoff Jr. and his wife, Mary Beth from Eugene, Oregon; and a daughter, Bonita B. "Bonnie" Kelley and her husband, Robert L. Kelley Sr. of Mechanicsville, Va. The surviving grandchildren include Karen Tulp of Springfield, Oregon, Erik Bishoff of Ashland, Oregon, Beckie Morrell of Yakima, Washington, Robert L. Kelley Jr. of St. Stephens Church, Va. and Karen K. Harris of Richmond, Va. Four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews also survive Helen. She attended Sheperd College in Shepherdstown, W.Va. and graduated from W.Va. University. Helen was a homemaker who had also worked as a home extension agent and office worker. She was a long time member of Lakeside United Methodist Church, where she was active in the United Methodist Women. The family will receive friends at Woody Funeral Home, Atlee Chapel, corner of Rt. 301 and Shady Grove Road, in Mechanicsville, Va., Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. There will also be visitation from 12 noon to 1 p.m. on Wednesday at Lakeside United Methodist Church on Hilliard Rd. The service will be at the church at 1 p.m. with burial immediately following at Forest Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Lakeside United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 2333 Hilliard Rd., Richmond, Va. 23228.

BOOKER

BRAUNS
Helen Bell Brauns, 80, of Richmond, passed from this life Sunday, September 24, 2000 as a result of a sudden illness. She was the widow of Hollis P. Brauns and was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Brauns Abbit. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Diane Brauns and Trev Crider; son, Jon E. Brauns; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Bell Waggoner of Atlanta; and numerous nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and nephews. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home’s Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday (today) at Forest Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Lakeside Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 7343 Hermitage Rd., Richmond, Va. 23228.

CADNUM
Miss Maribeth A. Cadnum, 18, of Chester, died Saturday, September 23, 2000 at the Medical College of Virginia Hospital. She was a senior at Lloyd C. Bird High School in Chesterfield and played the alto saxophone with the marching band. She is survived by her mother and stepfather, Linda M. and Alvin J. Childress of Chester; her father, Alan T. Cadnum of Chesterfield; four brothers, Keith D. Cadum and wife, Dana A. of Dinwiddie, Alvin J. Childress-Halpin of King George, Robert N. Childress of Jacksonville, Fla. and William J. Childress; one sister, Amber B. Childress, both of Chester; grandmothers, Viola M. Cadnum of Hinkley, Ohio and Bernice J. Childress of Chester; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, September 27, 2000 at 3 p.m. at the Southside Church of the Nazarene, 6851 Courthouse Road, Chesterfield, with the Rev. Ernest C. Priddy officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday, September 26, 2000 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights. Flowers are welcome or contributions may be made to the Lloyd C. Bird High School Band Boosters, 10301 Courthouse Rd. Ext., Chesterfield, Va. 23832.

Mrs. Lizzie Mae Gordon of Chester, Va. departed this life, Sunday, September 24, 2000. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Sts. Funeral notice later.

HARVEY
Robert (Filbert) N. Harvey, 68, of Richmond, died September 23, 2000. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Ann Hutchison Harvey; two daughters, Genise Harvey Mitchell and her husband, Rick, and Deborah Ann Inge and her husband, Wade; brother, Harold R. Harvey, all of Richmond, brother, W. Frankin Harvey of Dry Fork, Va.; four sisters, Arline H. Wood of Scottsville, Va., Phyllis H. Porter of Verona, Va., Erma H. Lewis of Manassas, Marie (Sally) Browning of Broad Run, Va.; four grandchildren, Jonathan Ross Mitchell, Jordan Michael Inge, Ryan Jennings Mitchell, and Jenna Nichole Mitchell, all of Richmond; several nieces and nephews. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and was retired from the City of Richmond. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Bliley Funeral Home’s Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Ave. Interment Maury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your local American Cancer Society, Muscular Dystrophy Association or the American Diabetes Association.

HENDERSON
Phillip S. Henderson of 2313 Sara Lane departed this life, Monday, September 25, 2000 in McGuire Veterans Hospital. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Sts. Funeral notice later.

HOLLINGSWORTH
Kathleen Kane Hollingsworth, died September 23, 2000. She is survived by her husband, Francis B. Hollingsowrth; two brothers, David M. Kane of Austin, Texas and Gerald A. Kane of Washington, D.C. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home’s Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Ave., where the family will receive friends Tuesday, 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., and where a Christian Wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church, Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. Interment Hollywood Cemetery. Prior to her retirement, she was secretary and administrative assistant for the Richmond Electrical Joint Apprenticeship Committee, a former buyer for Bullocks of Los Angeles, and Thalhimers Dept. Stores and a divisional merchandising manager at LaVogue. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the M.D. Anderson Cancer Clinic in Houston, Texas or the Tuckahoe Rescue Squad.

HOUCHENS
Clarence Houchens, 82, died September 25, 2000. Survivors include his sister, Edith Waller of Louisa; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 26 at Woodward Funeral Home. Graveside funeral services 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 27 at Hillcrest Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Piedmont and Louisa Rescue Squad.
