Albert L. Walsh
ABINGDON -- Albert L. Walsh, 77, of the Westhaven Retirement Living Center, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 1997.
He was a native of Abingdon, and had lived most of his life in the Bristol area.
He was a retired self-employed paint contractor.
He was also a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include one daughter, Barbara Waller, Chicago, Ill.; five sisters, Gladys Griffith, Greenfield, Ind., Sylvia Hutson, Kingsport, Estelle Biggs, Gray, Tenn., Berta Lyon, Greeneville, Tenn. and Nina Crane, Bluff City; two brothers, Jim Walsh, Townsend, Tenn. and Paul Walsh, Bluff City; three grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.
Weaver Funeral Home is in charge.

Roosevelt C. Altizer
LEBANON -- Roosevelt C. Altizer, 67, died Monday, Jan. 6, 1997, in Russell County Medical Center.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Willie Faye Altizer.
He was a retiree from Russell County Waste Management and was a lifelong resident of Russell County.
Survivors include one daughter, Melissa Chafin, Lebanon; four sisters, Sylvia Tiller, Lebanon, Mary Camper and Hazel Cox, both of Bristol Tennessee, and Dorothy Meade, Bristol Virginia; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Lebanon Funeral Home is in charge.

Fred W. Carico
COEBURN -- Fred Warren Carico, 83, died Monday, Jan. 6, 1997, in Norton Community Hospital, Norton, Va.
He was a lifelong resident of Sandy Ridge and attended Banner Assembly of God Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Cosby Tennessee Meade Carico.
Survivors include three brothers, George Carico and Charlie Carico, both of Coeburn, and Kenneth Carico, Sandusky, Ohio; one special niece, Lois Bruner, Coeburn; and several nieces and nephews.
Estes Funeral Home is in charge.

David R. Carmack
David Richard Carmack, 45, of 301 Carolina Ave., Bristol, Tenn., died Sunday, Jan. 5, 1997 in Wellmont Hospice House.
He had lived in the Bristol area most of his life.
He was an employee of Flav-O-Rich and a self-employed contractor, and a member of Virginia Avenue Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Pat "Susie" Houser Carmack; one daughter, Rebeca "Becky" Baird, of the home; one son, Edward "Sandy" Baird, Cape Coral, Fla.; his parents, Ruth S. Hamilton, Kingsland, Ga., and Fred and Dollie Cartwright, Bristol Tennessee; three brothers, Ron Carmack and John Cartwright, both of Bristol Tennessee, Mike Carmack, Amhurst, Va.; one half-sister, Kim Moretz, Glade Springs, Va.; one half-brother, Jamie Carmack, Bristol Tennessee; one grandson; one uncle and aunt; and several nieces and nephews.
Weaver Funeral Home is in charge.

Don L. Carr
ELIZABETHTON -- Don Lee "Bud" Carr, 63, of Route 3, died Monday, Jan. 6, 1997, in the VA Medical Center Hospital.
He was a native of Carter County and a member of Bunker Hill Christian Church. He was also a carpenter.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Ann "Jean" Carr; one daughter, Sheila Ann Carr, of the home; three brothers, Herbert Carr, Elizabethton, Kenneth Carr and David Carr, both of Bluff City; three sisters, Sylvia Ornduff, June Milhorn and Barbara Owens, all of Bluff City.
Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, is in charge.

Ruby C. Coleman
BASSETT, Va. -- Ruby C. Coleman, 51, of Route 3, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 1997.
She was a native of Panther, W.Va., and was a member of Beulah Land Baptist Church of Panther.
She was employed as a textile worker for Pluma Corp.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Avis Angle Blankenship, Magestic, Ky.; one adopted daughter, Donna Hankins, Axton, Va.; one son, Danny Cecil Coleman, Bassett; her mother, Mary Frances Lester Cline, Bassett; seven sisters, Stella F. Williams, Goldie C. Ramsey, Ruth A. Cline, Lovis C. Wolfe, Margie C. Carroll and Irene Wasoski, all of Bassett, and Kathy C. Lambertson, Westminster, Md.; five brothers, George H. Cline, Andrew J. Cline, both of Bassett, Ralph Cline, Patrick Springs, Va., Kenneth Cline, Ridgeway, Va., and Preston Cline Jr., Muir, Mich.; and two grandchildren.
Tomlinson Funeral Home, Inc., Ridgeway, Va., is in charge. Arrangements are incomplete.

Myrtle J. Edwards
Mrs. Myrtle Jeanette Edwards, 60, of 2101 Weaver Pike, Bristol, Tenn., died Saturday, Jan. 4, 1997, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
She was a lifelong resident of Bristol and a member of Tabernacle of Faith in Erwin, Tenn.
Survivors include her husband, Rassie "R.J." Edwards; six children, Tammy Arnold, Bristol Tennessee, John Edwards, Kingsport, Becky Hudson, Bluff City, Mary DeHart, Bristol Virginia, Steve Booher, Fletcher, N.C., and Robin Sproles, Castlewood; three sisters, Hazel Widner, Bristol Virginia, Racheal Davis, Bristol Virginia, and Lois Spence, Plainsville, Conn.; one brother, Johnny Booher, Bristol Virginia; eight grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

Sherman Gullion
MARION -- Sherman "Dude" Gullion, 66, died Monday, Jan. 6, 1997, at his home.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Powell Gullion; two daughters, Pam Gullion, Abingdon, and Angela Barr, Chilhowie; one son, Kevin Gullion, Atkins, Va.; one brother, Daniel Gullion, Dublin, Va.; and three grandchildren.

James P. Gwaldis Sr.
BIG STONE GAP -- James P. Gwaldis Sr., 76, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 1997, in Holston Valley Medical Center.
He was a native of Elizabeth, N.J., and a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy in Hawaii and the South Pacific as an aircraft machinist's mate.
He was a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Chancel Choir, the United Methodist Men, and the Fellowship Sunday School Class. He also served on the Administrative Board and the Council on Ministries.
He was a member of the Community Chorus and the Southlanders and was actively involved in several theatrical productions of the Big Stone Gap Music Club.
He was a member of the original cast of the outdoor drama "The Trail of the Lonesome Pine," and was well-known for his portrayal of "Uncle Billy" and his harmonica playing.
He was a charter member of the Lonesome Pine Model Railroaders.
He was employed by the Interstate Railway, and the Raytheon Corporation, and retired after 22 years of service with Cooke-Wilson Electric Supply in Lynch, Ky.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Gwaldis; one son, James P. Gwaldis Jr., Falls Church, Va.; two daughters, Norma Maxvill, St. Clair Shores, Mich., and Amy Heiden, Elkton, Mich.; one grandson; three brothers, Peter Gwaldis Sr., Morristown, N.J., John Gwaldis Sr., Roselle, N.J., and Charles Gwaldo Sr., Bricktown, N.J. and several nieces and nephews.
Holding Funeral Home, Big Stone Gap, is in charge.

Helen A. Harris
MARION -- Helen Aldena Farmer Harris, 78, died Saturday, Jan. 4, 1997, in Lehigh Acres, Fla.
She was a native of Rugby, Va., and was a member of the Women's Army Corps. She was attached to the Pentagon during World War II, as well as working for the Secret Service.
She was a staunch Republican and a member of the First Baptist Church, Lehigh Acres.
Survivors include her husband, Edmund Harris; two daughters, Karen Lynn Harris Milam, York, Pa., and Pamela Lee Ragland, Lehigh Acres; two sons, Donald H. Harris, Redondo Beach, Calif., and Kevin P. Harris, Lehigh Acres; three sisters, Zuria Austin, Austin, Texas, Stella Faye Farmer and Ada Marie Tilson, both of Marion; two brothers, Robert Farmer and Jack Farmer, both of Marion; ten grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Lannie B. Kendrick
Lannie Bell Kendrick, 94, of 327 Kindrick Hollow Road, Bristol, Tenn., died Monday, Jan. 6, 1997 in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
She was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County. She was a member of Cross United Methodist Church and was the widow of Joe Kendrick.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Evelyn Swiney, Thomasville, Ga.; one son, Verlin Kendrick, Bristol Tennessee; one sister, Mrs. Gertrude Caudill, Bristol Virginia; one brother, Melvin Leonard, Bristol Tennessee; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Akard Funeral Home is in charge.
