Aurel A. Catlin
BIG STONE GAP -- Aurel A. Catlin, 96, died Monday, Jan. 13, 1997, in Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center, Kingsport.
He was retired from General Motors and also retired from International Harvester, now known as Navistar. Before retiring he was a private consulting engineer.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War I.
He had lived in Big Stone Gap since 1987 coming from Sedona, Ariz.
Survivors include his wife, Naida Catlin; one son, Frank Robert Catlin, Southfield, Mich.; one daughter, Caryll Williams, Big Stone Gap; and five grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the home, 4 Wood Ave., East, from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.
Gilliam Funeral Home is in charge.

James R. Davis
MARION -- James Ralph Davis, 67, died Monday, Jan. 13, 1997, in Chicago, Ill.
He was a native of Loves Mill, Va. and was raised in Chicago.
He was a Marine Corp veteran and earned the highest degree in electronics from University of Chicago and majored in that field all his life.
Survivors include his wife, Hazel M. Boggs Davis, Chicago; one daughter, Susan M. Weismayer, Suwanee, Ga.; three grandchildren; two brothers, Richard A. Davis, Marion, and David G. Davis, Hendersonville, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
Seaver- Brown Funeral Service is in charge.

Marta A. Flannery
RICHMOND, Va. -- Marta Anna Flannery, died Sunday, Jan. 12, 1997.
Survivors include her husband, Martin J. Flannery; two sons, Daniel Martine and Michael Patrick Flannery; her mother, Emilia Procinsky; and two sisters, Ohel Michael Procinsky and Ihor Myroslav Procinsky.
Burial will be held Thursday in Silver Spring, Md.
Hines-Rinaldi Funeral Home, Silver Spring, is in charge.

Paul E. Helton
SWORDS CREEK -- Paul Edward Helton, 78, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 1997, at his home.
He was a native of Red Ash, Va. and had lived in the Swords Creek area for the past 41 years where he operated Helton's Grocery for many years.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army, and was wounded during the Italian Campaign for which he was awarded the Purple Heart.
He was a member of the Casey-Shortt VFW Post 9640 of Richlands, and the DAV Chapter 31 of Tazewell County.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Lora Gay Dye Helton; one son, Thomas Milton Helton, Washington, D.C.; two brothers, Cecil Helton, Raven, Va., and Roy Helton, Red Ash.
Honaker Funeral Home is in charge.

Garland Lamie
GLADE SPRING -- Garland Lamie, 78, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 1997, at his home.
He was retired from the U.S. Gypsum Company, Plasterco, Va.
He was of the Apostolic faith.
Survivors include his wife, Hester Lamie; one son, George "Bud" Lamie, Bland, Va.; two daughters, Betty Ruth Penland, Broadford, Va., and Norma Thompson, Glade Spring; one brother, Norman Lamie, Broadford; one sister, Agnes Lamie, Hannibal, N.Y.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
D.R. Henderson Funeral Home, Saltville, is in charge.

Larry Lawson
SEVEN MILE FORD -- Larry Lawson, 41, died Monday, Jan. 13, 1997, at his home.
Survivors include one daughter, Jessica Lawson, Marion; one son, Johnthan Lawson, Marion; his mother, Zella Henderson Lawson; three sisters, Elizabeth Dunbar, Richmond, Ind., Betty Lundy, Sugar Grove, Va., and Peggy Duncan, Charlottesville: six brothers, Pete Watkins, Salem, Va., James Lawson, Richmond, Ind., Dallas Lawson and Roger Lawson, both of Glade Spring, David Lawson, Canadian, Okla., and Samuel Lawson, Zionville, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
Seaver- Brown Funeral Service is in charge.

Marion E. Lyon
ABINGDON -- Mrs. Marion E. Fairbanks Lyon, 85, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 1997, in Johnston Memorial Hospital.
She was a native of Syracuse, N.Y. and had lived in Geneva, N.Y. most of her life.
She was a member of United Methodist Church, Geneva.
She was the widow of her first husband, Marvin Fairbanks, Watertown, N.Y. and her second husband, Dr. Raymond Lyon, Geneva.
Survivors include two sons, David I. Fairbanks, Depew, N.Y., and Alan E. Fairbanks, Abingdon; one brother, Harold Miller, Gastonia, N.C.; two grandsons, Alan J. Fairbanks, Pickerington, Ohio and Kenneth E. Fairbanks, Abingdon; one granddaughter, Danielle M. Fairbanks, Abingdon; and three great grandsons.
Campbell Funeral Home, Abingdon, is in charge.

Wayne G. McConnell
DAMASCUS -- Wayne Garrett McConnell, 79, died Monday, Jan. 13, 1997.
He was a native of Washington County, Va., and a member of the Damascus United Methodist Church.
He was a member and former captain of the Damascus Volunteer Fire Department and was a retired employee of the Pet Milk Company and Washington Motor Company.
Survivors include his wife, Hazel Miller McConnell; one daughter, Vicki M. Gentry, Damascus; two grandsons, two sisters, Teeny Staub and Louise Jones, both of Abingdon; and several nieces and nephews.
Johnson Funeral Home, Damascus, is in charge.

Clifford G. Meade
MUSSEY TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- Clifford Gene Meade, 67, died Monday, Jan. 13, 1997, at his home.
He was a native of Erwin, Tenn., having moved to the Michigan area in 1967.
He was a truck driver from 1945-1981 and a crane operator and truck driver with Midwest Steel Corporation of Center Line from 1967-1991 when he retired.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956 and a was a member of Preston-Fleenor VFW Post No. 9629, Bluff City.
He was a former member of the American Legion and Elks and was a member of the Teamster's Union.
Survivors include his wife, Goldie Charlene Meade; two daughters, Trula P. Morris and Goldie C. Palco; two grandchildren; one sister, Lois Swindell, Florida; three brothers, E.J. Meade, Florida and R.C. Meade and James Meade, both of Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.
Burial will be held Thursday in Michigan.
Kaatz Funeral Home, Capac, Mich., is in charge.

Nova H. Moore
WISE -- Nova Lee Hubbard Moore, 74, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 1997, in Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center, Kingsport.
She was of the Freewill Baptist faith.
Survivors include her husband, Melvin Edward Moore; one daughter, Glenda L. Kennedy, Wise; four sons, Robert E. Moore, Danny S. Moore, Thomas B. Moore and David M. Moore, all of Wise; one brother, Kelly Hubbard, Church Hill; two sisters, Blanche Graham and Lillian Hubbard, both of Wise; and six grandchildren.
Sturgill Funeral Home, Wise, is in charge.

Major J. Morrell
BLOUNTVILLE -- Major Jonathan Morrell, 96, of 5441 Bloomingdale Road, died Monday, Jan. 13, 1997, in Columbia Indian Path Hospital.
He was a farmer and lifelong resident of Sullivan County.
He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, a former superintendent of Sunday school, and a member of the Salem Quartet.
He was a director of the Sullivan County Farm Bureau and a charter member of the Central Heights Ruritan Club with 29 years of perfect attendance.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Naomi Akard Morrell.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Herbert (Margaret) Fogleman, Blountville, Mrs. Donald (Sara) Woods, Church Hill; two sons, Sam Morrell, Blountville, Kyle Morrell, Danville; one sister, Miss Sylvia Morrell, Blountville; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
