MARION -- Wiley Wilson Privett, 82, of Route 1, died Monday, Jan. 13, 1997, in Francis Marion Manor.
He was a native of Grayson County but had lived most of his life in Smyth County.
He was retired from the Brunswick Corporation and was a member of the Comers Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Bessie Sullivan Privett; two daughters, Margaret Campbell, Marion, and Elizabeth Jones, Aberdeen, Md.; one son, Johnny Privett, Belair, Md.; six sisters, Hazel Catron, Lake Wells, Fla., Bessie Brown, Piney Creek, N.C., Alice Powers, Marion, Ruby Noonkester, Belair, Virgie Privett, Mullins, W.Va., and Carrie Tolliver, Princeton, W.Va.; one brother, Roby Privett, Troutdale, Va.; ten grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Marian R. Rogers
Marian Richard Rogers, 77, of Bristol, Virginia, died Monday, Jan. 13, 1997, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of Bristol and a graduate of Sullins College.
She was a retired employee of Dominion Bank, a former member of Civinettes and was the widow of Joseph Rogers.
She was a member of Loyal Berean Sunday School Class and Central Christian Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Judy M. Rogers, Bristol, Virginia; one sister, Mrs. William G. (Ruth) Powell, Bristol, Virginia; and one niece, Julie Powell, Bristol, Virginia.

WISE -- Edith Mae Gilliam Sandlin, 90, died Monday, Jan. 13, 1997, in Coeburn Communicare, Coeburn, Va.
She was the widow of Charlie Sandlin and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include one sister, Marcelle Melkowski, Bristol, Virginia and several nieces and nephews.

Diane Hoyer Spencley, 50, died Saturday, Jan. 11, 1997.
She was a former longtime resident of Bristol, Tennessee.
Survivors include her husband, Tech. Sgt. James R. Spencley; one daughter, Tracey B. Gilman, Virginia Beach; one son, George T. Morton III, Bristol, Tennessee; her mother, Christine C. Hoyer, Abingdon; and one sister, Betty Bruce Tickle, Hilton Head, S.C.

ABINGDON -- Paul
Carter Tignor, 81 died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 1997, in Johnston Memorial Hospital.
He was a native of the Crossroads Community of Russell County and had lived in Abingdon for most of his life.
He was a member of the Shady Grove United Methodist Church, Abingdon, and retired from Abingdon Oil Company.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Thompson Tignor.
Survivors include two daughters, Shirley T. Clark and Margaret T. Mercer, both of Abingdon; one sister, Mrs. Shober (Mary) Phillips, Abingdon; and several nieces and nephews.

Ellen Matilda Haga, 80, of 10090 Reedy Creek Road, Bristol, Va., died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 1997, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of Damascus, but had spent the last 60 years in the Bristol area.
She was a member of the Revival Center and was a Sunday school teacher.
Survivors include her husband, Daniel Haga; one daughter, Norma Blaylock, Bristol, Virginia; one sister, Juanita Emmert, Damascus; two brothers, Vance Whitaker, Damascus, Dewey Whitaker, Kutztown, Pa.; one step-grandson; and one son-in-law.

BLUFF CITY -- Frank F. Hodge, 85, of 1025 Walnut Grove Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 1997, in the Bristol Nursing Home.
He was a native of Sullivan County and was a member of the First Baptist Church, Frostproof, Fla.
Survivors include his wife, Bertha Ables Hodge; one daughter, Mrs. Dennis (Loretta) Siebert, Sandoval, Ill.; one brother, Orris Hodges, Bluff City; and one sister, Ennis Hicks, Morristown; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

PINEY FLATS -- Mrs. Veda Chase Johnson, 84, of Hamilton Trail Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 1997, in Greystone Healthcare Center.
She was a native and lifelong resident of Sullivan County. She attended Rocky Spring Church.
She was the widow of Arvil A. Johnson.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Paul (Karen) Hart, Piney Flats, and Mrs. Earl (Judy) Galloway, Kingsport; one son, Robert Johnson, Piney Flats; two sisters, Celia McClure and Lyndall Bellamy, both of Kingsport; three grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

COEBURN -- Frances Roberta Meade, 66, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 1997, in St. Mary's Hospital, Norton.
She was of the Baptist faith and a former employee of One Hour Martinizing in Norton.
Survivors include her husband, W. Wythe Meade; one son, Harold W. Meade, Coeburn; two daughters, Myra M. Sullivan, Coeburn, and Alisa Dawn Bishop, Pennington Gap; one sister, Rose Mary Stugill, Coeburn; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Nola S. Owens
ABINGDON -- Nola G. Silcox Owens, 80, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 1997, in Johnston Memorial Hospital.
She was a native of Dickenson County and was a member of Freewill Baptist Church.
She was the widow of Arnie Owens.
Survivors include one daughter, Pat Hill, Abingdon; one granddaughter, Trishia Whisenant, Manassas; one daughter-in-law, two sisters, Arbutus Harlow, Ashland, Ohio and Trula Taylor, Haysi; two step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.

Harmon L. Pippin Jr.
Harmon L. Pippin Jr., 85, of 715 Dogwood Lane, Bristol, Va., died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 1997, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
He was a native of Mendota and graduated from Virginia High School. He received a B.S. degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute, Blacksburg, and was commissioned a 2nd Lt. in the U.S. Army Reserves.
In 1956, he received a Master of Arts Degree from George Washington University, Washington, D.C.
He received a commission in the regular Army and served until his retirement as a Lt. Colonel in 1964.
He was a graduate of the Armed Forces Staff College, Norfolk, and was assigned to the office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics at the Pentagon.
He served for four years as Chief of the Policy Section of the Requirements Division and was assigned with the office of the Inspector General at the Pentagon.
After his retirement he worked with the Educational Service Bureau, Alexandria, Va., and participated in the establishment of the Master Plan for the Community College Systems of Virginia.
He was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church, the retired Officer's Association, the local Holston Territory Genealogical Society and the Historical Society of Washington County.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Cox Pippin; and four nephews, Bernard Pippin Jr., Bristol, Virginia, Harmon J. Pippin, Taylorsville, N.C., Ernest Pippin, Nashville, and Buford Pippin Jr., Sulphur, La.
