Mae H. Snider
MARION -- Mae Haga Snider, 92, of RFD No. 2, died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 1997, in Smyth County Community Hospital.
She was the widow of her first husband, James Herman Haga Sr., and her second husband, Conley Snider.
She was a member of Marion Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, James Herman Haga Jr., Jacksonville, N.C., and Monroe Lee Haga, Marion; four daughters, Jewel Blevins, Mrs. Clifton (Charmie) Blevins, Mrs. Bascom W. (Margaret) Johnson and Doris Winebarger, all of Marion; two step-sons, Clifton Snider, Fern Park, Fla., and Arlen B. Snider, Marion; one step-daughter, Wilma Sherwood, Bristol, Virginia; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; ten step-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Williams Funeral Home, Chilhowie, is in charge.

Delores J. Sutherland
Delores Jean Sutherland, of 1017 Windsor Ave., Bristol, Tenn., died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 1997, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of Rockford, Ill., grew up in Portage, Wis., and had lived in Milwaukee, Wis., before moving to Bristol in 1987.
Survivors include her husband, Tivis "Tim" Sutherland; one daughter, Mrs. Kenneth (Sharron) Armstrong, Philadelphia, Pa.; three grandchildren, Kandre Houghtby, Megan Armstrong and Robert Armstrong; and two great-grandchildren.
Weaver Funeral Home is in charge.

Minnie Underwood
BIG STONE GAP -- Minnie "Doll" Underwood, 74, died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 1997, in Ridgecrest Manor Nursing Home, Duffield, Va.
She was of the Pentecostal faith.
Survivors include her husband, the Rev. Loyd Haskell Underwood; one daughter, Teresa Whited, Big Stone Gap; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; five step-daughters, Haskell Gay Myers, Texas, Connie Marie Sims, Geraldine Certin, Nettie Jo Shoaf and Claudine Underwood, all of Indiana; one step-son, Charles Edward Underwood, Versailles, Ky.; two sisters, Stella Dingus and Elva Neeley, both of Big Stone Gap; two brothers, Thomas Grubb Jr., Big Stone Gap, and Roy Grubb, Bean Station, Tenn.
Holding Funeral Home is in charge.

Kent White
CONOVER, N.C. -- Kent White, 31, of 3825 County Home Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 1997, from injuries received in an accident.
He was a native of Lebanon, and was employed by Ernest White Backhoe Service, Conover.
Survivors include his wife, Missy C. White; two daughters, Kimberly Ann White, Conover, and Santana Juli Radford, of the home; two sons, Thomas Lee White, Conover, and Codie Michael Radford, of the home; his mother, Iva Nell Hicks, Conover; his step-father, Maynard Hicks, Conover; three sisters, Eva Barden and Joann Shook, both of Claremont, and Patsy Peak, Conover; two step-sisters, Shelby Bowman, Claremont, and Kathy Hubbard, Conover; two brothers, Bobby White, Claremont, and Danny White, Newton; and several aunts, uncles; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday in Conover.
Drum Funeral Home, Conover, is in charge.

Virginia A. Barrett
Virginia A. "Polly" Barrett, 80, of 835 VI Ranch Road, Bristol, Tenn., died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 1997, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of Abingdon, and had lived in the Bristol area for the past 42 years.
She was a member of Holston Valley Bible Church and was the widow of Garfield Barrett.
Survivors include four daughters, Dorothy Gilmer, Saline, Mich., Mrs. Ron (Temple) Kruger, Clarksville, Ark., Mrs. Ralph "Betty Ruth" Fleenor and Ms. Mary Counts, both of Bristol, Tennessee; three sons, Jim Barrett and Tex Barrett, both of Bristol, Tennessee and Ralph Barrett, Abingdon; 29 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and 13 step-great-grandchildren.
Weaver Funeral Home is in charge.

Nora E. Campbell
Nora Ethel Campbell, 88, of 2434 Shakesville Road, Bristol, Va., died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 1997, in Cambridge House.
She was a native of Blountville, and had lived in Florida and New York until moving to Bristol in 1995.
She was a graduate of Virginia Intermont College and was a member of First Christian Church, Tampa, Fla.
Survivors include two nieces, Mary Ellen Collins, Johnson City and Judy Mahaska, Louisville, Colo.; and one nephew, George Campbell, Bristol, Virginia.
Weaver Funeral Home is in charge.

Zula M. Carty
CLINTWOOD -- Zula M. Carty, 88, of Caney Ridge, died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 1997, in Dickenson County Medical Center.
She was a native of Erwin and a graduate of East Tennessee State University.
She was a retired school teacher who had taught school for more than 40 years in Erwin, Grassy Creek, Turner Ridge, Trammel, Clinchco and Clintwood.
She was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority and other educational associations.
She had been a member of Peuther Chapel Freewill Baptist Church since 1942, and had taught Sunday school as well as serving as deaconess there for many years.
She was also a published poet and also well known locally for her pastoral paintings.
Survivors include her husband, Claude H. Carty; one son, retired USAF Colonel Donald L. Carty, Abingdon; two daughters, Adina A. Krum and Marilyn Vaughn, both of Clintwood; one sister, Anne Wilson, Erwin; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Clintwood Funeral Home is in charge.

Edward E. Colley
MORRISTOWN -- Edward Eugene "Eddie" Colley, 44, died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 1997, in Farmington, Conn.
He was retired with 20 years of service in the United States Marine Corps.
He was currently employed with Builders Transport, White Pines, Tenn.
Survivors include his wife, Rita Williams Colley; one son, Jason Colley, of the home; his mother, Eleanor Holmes, Saltville; and his step-father, Lee Holmes, Saltville.
The D.R. Henderson Funeral Home, Saltville, is in charge.

Virginia Cox
CLINCHPORT, Va. -- Virginia Cecil Corder Cox, 85, of Route 4, (Stanleytown Community) died Thursday, Jan. 23, 1997 in Indian Path Medical Center.
She was a native of Scott County, a homemaker and a member of Stanleytown Community Church.
She was the widow of R.J. Cox.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Glenn (Beulah F.) Fields, Clinchport; four grandsons; three great-granddaughters; five sisters, Jewell Pruitt, Clinchport, Cornelia Sumpter and Nina Jean Riddle, both of Eolia, Ky., Gretie Mae Craiger, Oven Ford, Ky., and Blanche Sturgill, Pound; two brothers, John Edgar Corder, Fairland, Ind., and Ted Ray Corder, Eolia; and several nieces and nephews.
Scott County Funeral Home, Weber City, is in charge.

Edith P. Cunningham
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Edith Pippin Cunningham, 81, died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 1997, in Starke, Fla.
She was a native of Bristol, Tennessee and had moved to Florida after her retirement as an RN with Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon.
She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include two sisters, Violet P. Worrell, Gainesville, and Marie P. Jarrett, Bristol, Tennessee; one brother, Wayne "C.W." Pippin, Santa Rosa, Calif.; and 14 nieces and nephews.

Mamie M. Dougherty
GATE CITY -- Mamie McClain Dougherty, 96, of Route 4, died Thursday, Jan. 23, 1997, in Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center.
She was a native of Scott County, Va. and was a homemaker.
She was of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include two daughters, Kate Warren, Weber City, and Beverly Fields, Gate City; three sons, James C. Dougherty, Mechanicsville, Va., Carroll B. Dougherty, Palm Dale, Calif., and Charles "Clifton" Dougherty, Blountville; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Colonial Funeral Home, Weber City, is in charge.
