Gwendolyn Goodbrod
CHILHOWIE -- Gwendolyn C. Goodbrod, 56, of 208 Vance Drive, died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 1997, in Williamsport Hospital and Medical Center, Pennsylvania.
She was a native of Jersey Shore, and was a graduate of Jersey Shore High School and the Williamsport School of Nursing. She was a licensed practical nurse and was employed by Divine Providence Hospital, Williamsport, early in her life.
She was the manager of Springford Mills Outlet, Chilhowie.
She was a member of Chilhowie United Methodist Church and a member of the Ivanhoe Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, Jersey Shore.
She enjoyed quilt making, sewing and crafts.
Survivors include her husband, Louis W. Goodbrod Jr.; two sons, Louis W. Goodbrod, III, Chilhowie, and Gregory W. Goodbrod, a student at Shenandoah University, Winchester, Va.; two daughters, Monique D. Goodbrod, Radford, and Jennifer D. Goodbrod, Chilhowie; her parents, William L. and Evelyn Reeder Cohick, Avis, Pa.; two sisters, Jolie A. Marks, Avis and Diane Y. Breon, Huron, Ohio.
Funeral services will be held Saturday in Avis, Pa.
Rearick-Carpenter Funeral Home, Jersey Shore, is in charge.

Ollie M. Kiser
WISE -- Ollie Maude Kiser, 75, of 6852 Hurricane Road, died Thursday, Jan. 23, 1997, at her home.
She was the widow of William Kern Kiser.
She attended Beverly Hills Tabernacle, Wise.
Survivors include four sons, Ervin Kiser, Wise, William Kiser, Prince George, Va., Mathew Kiser, Abingdon, and Russell Kiser, Houston, Texas; two sisters, Rose Hazelton, Brunswick, Ga., and Mattie Gussline, New York, N.Y.; one brother, Carl Hubbard, Appalachia; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Sturgill Funeral Home, Wise, is in charge.

Raymond K. Millhorn
BLUFF CITY -- Raymond K. "Swifty" Millhorn, 85, of 1341 Egypt Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 1997, in the V.A. Medical Center, Mountain Home, Tenn.
He was a native of Piney Flats, and was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County.
He was a member of Bluff City United Methodist Church and Zollicoffer Masonic Lodge No. 444 and was a charter member of Bluff City Chapter 414 order of the Eastern Star.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a member of American Legion Post 145.
He retired from Tennessee Eastman after almost 40 years of employment.
Survivors include his wife, Hazel Hicks Millhorn; four sisters, Zella Hicks and Juanita Carty, both of Piney Flats, Mona Smith, Bristol, Tennessee and Virginia Mae Combs, Bluff City; two brothers, Ivan Millhorn, Bluff City, and R.B. Millhorn, Bristol, Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.
Oakley-Cook Funeral Home is in charge.

Hamish M. Morrison
BIG STONE GAP -- "Mel" Hamish Melville Morrison, 68, died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 1997, in Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center, Kingsport.
He was a member of First Apostolic Church of God, Norton.
He was a retired pharmacist and had served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He had lived in Big Stone Gap since 1976 moving from Stanton, Va.
Survivors include his wife, Vina Morrison; one son, James Phillips, Springfield, Ky.; four daughters, Karen Burton, Chesapeake, Va., Debra Morrison and Shauna Morrison, both of Greenville, Va., and Jamie Phillips, Big Stone Gap; one sister, Sheila Morrison, Binghamton, N.Y.; and seven grandchildren.
Gilliam Funeral Home is in charge.

Ralph Mullins
CLINTWOOD -- Ralph Mullins, 75, died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 1997, in Dickenson County Medical Center.
He was a lifelong resident of Dickenson County and was of the Freewill Baptist faith.
He was a World War II veteran having served in the United States Navy.
Survivors include three sisters, Lessie Mullins and Jessie Mullins, both of Clintwood, and Maxie Linkous, Charlottesville; and several nieces and nephews.
Mullins Funeral Home, Clintwood, is in charge.

Annie J. Mullins
HURLEY, Va. -- Annie "Amy" Lee Justus Mullins, 60, died Thursday, Jan. 23, 1997, at her home.
She was a native and lifelong resident of Buchanan County, a homemaker and a member of Sulphur Springs Old Regular Baptist Church.
She was a member of "Our House" sponsored by Cumberland Mountain Community Services.
Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Edgar (Patsy) Baker Jr., Hurley, Mrs. Jerry (Pamela) Edwards, Mrs. Donnie (Peggy) Deel and Mrs. Ferrell (Phyllis) Thomas, all of Grundy; one son, Larry Edward Mullins, Doran, Va.; two sisters, Mary Conrad, Petersburg, Fla., and June Conrad, Hurley; two brothers, James Justus, Vansant, and Stewart Justus, Hurley; and 12 grandchildren.
Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home is in charge.

Judy C. Scoggins
BLUFF CITY -- Judy C. Scoggins, 55, of 511 Sky Wa Mo Drive, Chinquapin Community died Thursday, Jan. 23, 1997, at her home.
She was a lifelong resident of the Bluff City area and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her husband, Stanley D. Scoggins; her parents, Olly and Ruth Carrier, Bluff City; one sister, Claudia Carrier, Greeneville, Tenn.; two brothers, Jerry Carrier, Piney Flats, and Tony Carrier, Bluff City; and several nieces and nephews.
Weaver Funeral Home is in charge.

George Shepherd Jr.
BLUFF CITY -- George Edward Shepherd Jr., 69, of 148 Maplehurst Lane, died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 1997, at his home.
He was a native of Greene County, Tenn., and a director of information systems with Johnson City Medical Center.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and was of the Presbyterian faith.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Nelle Weems Shepherd; one daughter, Mrs. Vicki Rebecca Sams, Bluff City; one son, James Rick Shepherd, Bristol, Tennessee; one granddaughter, Amy Rebecca Sams; and one grandson, Evan Michael Sams.
Weaver Funeral Home is in charge.

James B. Starkes Jr.
ABINGDON -- James Bryant Starkes Jr., 74, of 19117 Cleveland Road, died Thursday, Jan. 23, 1997, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
He was a native of Washington County, Va., and was a farmer.
He attended Emmanuel Baptist Church, Abingdon.
Survivors include his mother, Mary Loraine Starkes, Abingdon; five sisters, Barbara Nottingham, Kingsport, Judy Starkes, Abingdon, Doris Roop, Betty Leonard and Louise Carrier, all of Bristol, Virginia; three brothers, Dale Starkes and Carl Starkes, both of Bristol, Virginia and Claude Starkes, Abingdon; and several nieces and nephews.

Minnie C. Vanover
NORTON -- Minnie Craft Vanover, 82, died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 1997, in Norton Community Hospital.
She was of the Baptist faith and was a lifelong resident of the Norton area.
She was the widow of Walter Ray Vanover.
Survivors include one son, Henry Vanover, Norton; five grandchildren, Robert Ray Vanover, Ernest Vanover, Letha Bentley, Zonna Vanover and Rebecca Vanover, all of Norton; and eight great-grandchildren.
Hagy Funeral Home is in charge.
