ATKINS, Va. -- Ethel Marie Robinette, 85, died Thursday, Jan. 23, 1997, in Francis Marion Manor Nursing Home, Marion.
She was the widow of Glen "Ping" Curtis Robinette Sr.
Survivors include two daughters, Shelba R. Crigger, Rural Retreat, and Betty R. Brantley, Houston, Texas; one son, Curtis Robinette, Rural Retreat; two sisters, Verda Voltz, Fawn Grove, Pa., and Avis Bainbridge, Jappa, Md.; and three grandchildren.

BLUFF CITY -- Judy C. Scoggins, 55, of 511 Sky Wa Mo Drive, Chinquapin Community died Thursday, Jan. 23, 1997, at her home.
She was a lifelong resident of the Bluff City area and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her husband, Stanley D. Scoggins; her parents, Olly and Ruby Carrier, Bluff City; one sister, Claudia Carrier, Greeneville, Tenn.; two brothers, Jerry Carrier, Piney Flats, and Tony Carrier, Bluff City; and several nieces and nephews.

SALTVILLE -- Mrs. Genevieve J. "Gen" Smith, 74, died Thursday, Jan. 23, 1997, at her home.
She was a member of Madam Russell United Methodist Church.
She was the widow of Newell S. Smith.
Survivors include one son, Jackie N. Smith, Hardy, Va.; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Barbara Smith, Hardy; and a special friend, Mrs. Holmes (Hilda) Coulthard, Saltville.

ABINGDON -- James Bryant Stark Jr., 74, of 19117 Cleveland Road, died Thursday, Jan. 23, 1997, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
He was a native of Washington County, Va., and was a farmer.
He attended Emmanuel Baptist Church, Abingdon.
Survivors include his mother, Mary Loraine Stark, Abingdon; five sisters, Barbara Nottingham, Kingsport, Judy Stark, Abingdon, Doris Roop, Betty Leonard and Louise Carrier, all of Bristol, Virginia; three brothers, Dale Stark and Carl Stark, both of Bristol, Virginia and Claude Stark, Abingdon; and several nieces and nephews.

PENNINGTON GAP -- Lloyd Guy Walton Sr., 89, died Thursday, Jan. 23, 1997.
He was a former teacher, retired superintendent of Blue Diamond Coal Company, a Kentucky Colonel, a Mason and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Edith Myers Walton; one son, Lloyd Guy Walton Jr., Pennington Gap; two daughters, Rebecca Eversole, Ripley, Ohio and Judy Barney, Pennington Gap; one brother, Quinton Walton, Jonesville, Va.; one sister, Patsy Berry, Durham, N.C.; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

ABINGDON -- W. Woodrow West, 84, of Lee Highway, died Thursday, Jan. 23, 1997 in Johnston Memorial Hospital.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth West.
He was a member of the Pleasant View United Methodist Church and a retired coal miner after 43 years of service. He was a member of the UMWA Local No. 1256.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Bruce (Sylvia) Warner, Lebanon; four brothers, Etheridge W. West, Battleground, Wash., Walter W. West, Hernando, Miss., George W. West and F.A. West, both of Oneida, Tenn.; three granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews.

CHILHOWIE -- W. Neal Blankenbeckler, 74, of Skyview Drive, died Saturday, Jan. 25, 1997, in Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon, Va.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eloise Dungan Blankenbeckler.
He was a lifelong resident of Smyth County, Va., and was of the Baptist faith.
He retired from both the Burlington Industries and as a U. S. Postal Service rural mail carrier.
He was former owner//operator of Neal's Archery Shop, Chilhowie.
He was a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II and a member of the Chilhowie Masonic Lodge No. 250 AF&AM.
Survivors include one son, David Neal Blankenbeckler, Bristol, Virginia; one daughter, Mrs. Jim (Donna) Hutton, Glade Spring, Va.; one brother, John Campbell Blankenbeckler, Homasassa, Fla.; one grandson, Neal Hutton, Glade Spring, Va.; one granddaughter, Mrs. Chris (Michelle) Brown, Bristol, Tennessee; and one great-granddaughter, Kayla Louann Brown, Bristol, Tennessee.

BLOUNTVILLE -- Helen Lucille Collins, 62, of 429 Bumcombe Road, died Saturday, Jan. 25, 1997, in the Cambridge House Health Care Center.
She was a native of Washington County, Va., and a lifelong resident of the Bristol area.
She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her husband, Carl J. Collins; two daughters, Diane Whitaker, Bristol, Tennessee, and Beth Collins, Blountville; three sisters, Evelyn Callahan and Mary Ann Tranum, both of Bristol, Tennessee, and Joyce Branch, Knoxville, Tenn.; two brothers, Marvin Davenport and Freddie Davenport, both of Bristol, Tennessee; and three grandchildren.

MEDIA, Penn. -- Mrs. Marcella M. Brewer Fitzsimmons, 84, died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 1997, in the Bishop Nursing Home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Peyton L. Fitzsimmons.
She was a native of Abingdon, Va., and had lived in Chester, Penn., for 50 years, having moved to Media recently.
She was a former member of the Charles Welsey United Methodist Church where she was a member of the choir, usher board and Sunday School. She was a former member of the St. Luke Christian Community Church where she was a member of Class No. 7, the historical committee and the trustee auxiliary.
Survivors include two sons, Melvin L. Fitzsimmons, Philadelpia, Penn., and Dallas Fitzsimmons, Media, Penn.; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and several other relatives and friends.

SALTVILLE -- Ray Goad, 77, died Saturday, Jan. 25, 1997, at his home.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ora Buchanan Goad.
He was a native of West Virginia and had lived in the Saltville area for 30 years.
He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II and was of the Church of God faith.
Survivors include one son, Jimmy Goad, Abingdon, Va.; one daughter, Mrs. H. E. (Betty) Goad Martin, Lexington, N.C.; and one grandson, Michael Goad, Abingdon, Va.

NICKELSVILLE -- John Samuel Hilton Sr., 81, of Route 2, died Saturday, Jan. 25, 1997, in Brookhaven Nursing Home in Kingsport.
He was a native of Hiltons and had lived most of his life in Scott County, Va.
He was a former employee of Tennessee Eastman Chemical Company and a retired farmer.
