Ila M. Childers
ABINGDON -- Mrs. Ila Mae Childers, 97, died Monday, Jan. 27, 1997, in Johnston Memorial Hospital.
She was a resident of Cedar Lawn Convalescent Home, Abingdon.
She was a native of Washington County and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include one son, Ralph Childers, Abingdon; four daughters, Lennis Stout, Abingdon, Ann Ledford, Bakersville, N.C., Jackie Piper and Ruby Brannon, both of Ocala, Fla.; 26 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Farris Funeral Service, Abingdon, is in charge.

William A. DeBord
SALTVILLE -- William Allen "Babo" DeBord, 50, died Monday, Jan. 27, 1997, in Smyth County Community Hospital.
He was a member of the Church of God, in Allison's Gap, where he served as chairman of the Board of Trustees for several years.
He was a member of Saltville Volunteer Fire Department.
Survivors include his wife, Pam Swartz DeBord; three sisters, Mrs. Larry (Martha) Haynes and Mrs. Todd (Vickie) Stacy, both of Piney Flats, and Mrs. Dicky (Jackie) Nutter, Blountville; three brothers, Edward T. DeBord Sr., Mike DeBord and Darrell S. DeBord, all of Saltville; and several nieces and nephews.
D.R. Henderson Funeral Home is in charge.

Paul J. Hamm
FINKSBURG, Md. -- Paul Jackson Hamm, 54, died Sunday, Jan. 26, 1997, in Carol County General Hospital, Westminster, Md.
He was a native of Chilhowie and an employee of the Suburban Propane Gas Company, Westminster.
He was also a U.S. Navy veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Dowell Hamm; one daughter, Mrs. Chad (Paula D.) Peyton, Westminster; his father and mother, James P. and Mary St. John Hamm, both of Marion; one brother, David M. Hamm, Marion; one sister, Martha Hamm Eller, Chilhowie; and several nieces and nephews.
Williams Funeral Home, Chilhowie, is in charge.

Anna C. Holden
Anna Mae Campbell Holden, 94, of 100 Ash St., Edgemont Towers, Bristol, Tenn., died Sunday, Jan. 26, 1997, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of the Bristol area and had lived in Kingsport several years before moving back to Bristol in 1991.
She was a former employee of Big Jack Manufacturing Company and was a member of Ketron Memorial Methodist Church, Kingsport.
Survivors include one step-son, John Holden, Bristol, Tennessee; two sisters, Madeline Marshell, Bristol, Virginia, Sarah Letta Penley, Bristol, Tennessee, one step-granddaughter, Mollie Holden, and several nieces and nephews.
Weaver Funeral Home is in charge.

Della Mae Jones
Della Mae Tester Jones, 78, of 1228 New Hampshire Avenue, Bristol, Virginia, died Sunday, Jan. 26, 1997.
She was a native of Scott County, Va., and had lived most of her life in the Bristol area.
She attended First Christian Church and was retired from Westbury Fashions.
She was the widow of Lionel Frank Jones Sr.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Eugene (Nancy) Graybeal, Bristol, Tennessee; one son, Frank Jones Jr., Bristol, Virginia; one sister, Mrs. William E. (Emma Lee) Talley, Bristol, Tennessee; three brothers, Guy Tester and Elvin Tester, both of Bristol, Tennessee, and Glen Tester, Mt. Carmel, Tenn.

George L. Kennedy
NINETY SIX, S. C. -- George Logan Kennedy, 73, of 8 Rosanna Drive, died Sunday, Jan. 26, 1997, in Self Memorial Hospital in Greenwood.
He was a native of Orangeburg County and a graduate of the Citadel.
He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II.
He retired as secretary//treasurer of Southern Brick Company.
He was a member and elder of the Ninety Six Presbyterian Church, a member of the Ninety Six Lions Club, the Men's Garden Club of Greenwood, the Greenwood Amateur Radio Club, the American Legion and the VFW.
Survivors include his wife, Lizelle Smyly Kinard Kennedy; two daughters, Mrs. Barry (Smyly) Connor, Summerville, and Mrs. Phillip (Mary) Bailey, Bristol, Tennessee; one son, George L. Kennedy III, of Greenwood; two sisters, Mrs. John (Betty Anne) Strother and Mrs. W. A. (Becky) McDaniel, both of Ninety Six; one brother, Dr. W.E. Kennedy, Anderson; and six grandchildren.

Helen M. Kirkman
Helen Marie Dobbins Kirkman, 64, of 530 Lakeview Street, Bristol, Tenn., died Sunday, Jan. 26, 1997, at her home.
She was a lifelong resident of Bristol and a member of the True Faith Tabernacle.
Survivors include her husband, Jimmy L. Kirkman; two daughters, Margaret Bellamy, Castlewood, and Rose Bolling, Bristol, Tennessee; two sons, Roy Kirkman, Bluff City, and Dennis Kirkman, Bristol, Tennessee; five brothers, Fred Dobbins, Zanesville, Ohio, Harvey Dobbins Jr., Carl Dobbins, Frank Dobbins and Donnie Dobbins, all of Bristol, Tennessee; eleven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Edith F. Kiser
COEBURN -- Edith F. Kiser, 80, died Sunday, Jan. 26, 1997, in the Norton Community Hospital.
She attended Mary's Chapel, Coeburn.
Survivors include her husband, Noah W. Kiser Sr.; one daughter, Phyllis Holbrook, Sandusky, Ohio; four sons, Bobby Kiser, Wise, Va., Bill R. Kiser, Fayetteville, N.C., Noah W. "Noon" Kiser Jr., and Jim Kiser, both of Coeburn; three sisters, Carlee Carter and Ruth Collins, both of Mt. Carmel, Tenn., and Emma Lee Daughtery, of Lynn Garden, Tenn.; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

David D. Mason
RALEIGH, N.C. -- David Dickenson Mason, 80, of 4212 Arbutus Drive, died Sunday, Jan. 26, 1997, in Rex Hospital.
He was a native of Abingdon, Va., and attended Abingdon public schools.
He graduated from Wallace High School and received a BA degree in chemistry from King College, Bristol, Tenn., an MS degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in soil chemistry and a Ph.D degree from North Carolina State University in soil physics.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, achieving the rank of Chief Warrant Officer.
He was employed by Ohio State University and the Agricultural Research Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Beltsville, Md.
He retired from N.C. State University as professor of statistics.
He was a member of the American Statistical Association, the American Society of Agronomy, the Soil Science Society of America, the Biometrics Society and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
He was listed in the American Men of Science.
He was a Member and Chair of NCSU Faculty Senate, Member and Chair of the Southern Regional Education Board, and a Member and Chair of the Board of Directors of the Triangle Universities Computing Center.
He was an elder in the West Raleigh Presbyterian Church, where he served as President of the Men's Bible Class.
Survivors include his wife Louise Pendleton Mason; one daughter, Marjorie Frances Kachoris, Boston, Ma.; one son, Dr. David Pendleton, Wilmington, N.C.; two grandsons, David Fox Mason and Stephen Robert Mason, Wilmington, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
Brown Wynne Funeral Home is in charge.

Stella W. Maxfield
HONAKER -- Mrs. Stella Whitt VanDyke Maxfield, 73, died Monday, Jan. 27, 1997, at her home.
She was a native of Rowe, Va., and had lived in the Honaker area for over 30 years.
She attended the Pentecostal Outreach Temple at Wysor Valley.
Survivors include her husband, Kennie Lee Maxfield; three daughters, Christine Gross, Richlands, Mona Osborne, Christiansburg, and Kathy Honaker, Honaker; three sons, J.B. VanDyke, Lebanon, Harry VanDyke and Mack VanDyke, both of Richlands; one brother, Arthur Whitt, Garden Creek, Va.; 16 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren..
