Thomas Earl Wynne, age 88, of Richmond, died September 9, 2002. He was the son of the late Edlow and Bessie Wynne and is survived by his wife of 55 years, Juliet Redd Wynne; his daughters, Jean W. Payne of Roseland, Va., Katherine Earl Keefe and husband, Dan Keefe of Bamberg, Germany; his grandsons, Richard Thomas Payne and wife, Tiffany, Kenneth Eugene Payne, Daniel John and Thomas James Keefe. Mr. Wynne was a member of the Local 666 I.B.E.W. and a 50 year member of Northside Masonic Lodge 292 A.F. & A.M. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends Wednesday and Thursday, 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday, 11 a.m. at the Church of the Epiphany (Episcopal), 8000 Hermitage Rd., Richmond, Va. 23228. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery with Masonic Rites by Northside Masonic Lodge 292. In lieu of flowers, consider gifts to the Church of the Epiphany or Northside Masonic Lodge 292, 109 Eisenhower Dr., Richmond, Va. 23227-2011.

BARKSDALE
Ruth Amis Barksdale died June 4, 2002. She is survived by her son, Zachary H. Felder; her mother, Anne S. Barksdale; her brother, Beverly W. Barksdale; and her sister, Kennon B. Jamieson. She was preceded in death by her brother, William R. Barksdale. Ms. Barksdale was a gifted artist and a loving mother.

BOWMAN
Departed this life June 4, 2002, Mr. Cornelius O. (Tater Bug) Bowman of 5423 Longbridge Rd. Remains rest at Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 N. 25th St. Funeral notice later.

BRADLEY
Ann Gregory Smith Bradley, widow of Robert Willoughbee Bradley, Md., a Powhatan doctor for 44 years, died on June 3, 2002. She was born in Petersburg, Va. to William Archibald Smith and Adelaide Edmunds Jones Smith on April 19, 1920. Mrs. Bradley graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Richmond, attended Randolph-Macon Woman's College, Lynchburg; Richmond Professional Institute (VCU), Richmond; Medical College of Virginia and Pan American Business School, Richmond. She married Robert Willoughbee Bradley in 1946. They moved to Powhatan in 1948 and joined Providence Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Bradley served the church over the years as Sunday School teacher; choir member; leader, with her husband, of the youth fellowship group; Superintendent of Sunday School; Director of Vacation Bible School; Publicity Chairman for Homecoming and as Elder. During the 1950s, Mrs. Bradley served as Blood Donor Recruitment Chairman for the Bloodmobile. Mrs. Bradley was a devoted wife, mother, homemaker and to this she lovingly dedicated her life. She is survived by three daughters, Sarah Ann B. Peebles, husband, William R. Jr., Elizabeth Castleton Bradley-Smith, husband, John K., Jean Willoughbee B. Ashton, husband, Peter P. III; five grandsons, Patrick Willoughbee Doyle, Brendan Michael Doyle, Luke Alexander Ashton, Gregory Morton Peebles and Stephen Bradley Peebles;one brother, William Archibald Smith Jr.; three nieces and one nephew. The family will receive friends Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Bennett & Barden Funeral Home, 3215 Anderson Highway, Powhatan. Funeral services will be held Friday 2 p.m. in the Providence Presbyterian Church, Powhatan. Interment church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Providence Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 417, Powhatan, Va. 23139.

BRATTON
John Eli Bratton, 91, of Chase City, widower of Virginia H. Bratton, died June 3, 2002. He is survived by a daughter, Lynn F. Blankenship of Powhatan; a sister, Kate Berry of Annandale; two grandsons, Larry E. Franklin Jr. and wife, Sara Leigh of Chesterfield and Gary Dwayne Blankenship of Tampa, Fla.; two great-grandchildren, Kristin and Derek Franklin; numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Newcomb Allgood Davis Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at The First Presbyterian Church, Chase City, with interment in Woodland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Chase City Volunteer Fire Dept. or the Chase City Rescue Squad. Mr. Bratton was a life-long member of First Presbyterian Church and former member of Chase City Town Council and Lions Club.

BRYANT
Charles Edward Bryant, 68, of Summers Hill Lane, Prince George, died Monday, June 3, 2002 in John Randolph Medical Center. He was born in Schuyler, Virginia, in Nelson County, and had made his home in this area for a number of years. Mr. Bryant was a member of Colonial Heights Baptist Church and was a retired machinist with Park 500. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Elwood Bryant; two sons, Charles Edward Bryant Jr. and James Edward Bryant. Mr. Bryant is survived by his wife, Rose Wyatt Bryant of Prince George; two children, Gregory Bryant of Enon and Sharon McCaughey of Pembroke Pines, Fla.; three stepchildren, Michael Wyatt of Smithfield, Jackie Richardson of Nashville, Tenn. and Kimberly Young of Mechanicsville; his mother, Emma Hellard Bryant of Scottsville, Va.; three grandchildren, Dale Bryant, Ashby Bryant and Zachary Chicoski; three stepgrandchildren, Alan Wyatt, Ashley Wyatt and Caitlyn Richardson; six sisters, Beatrice Banton, Margaret Morris, Becky Pillow, Gloria Best, Nancy Eckrote and Linda Seamans; and three brothers, Joe Bryant, Gene Bryant and Robert Bryant. The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 5, 2002 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morris & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Thursday, June 6, 2002 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Rodney Sprayberry, pastor of Colonial Heights Baptist Church, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Randal Aldred, pastor of Bermuda P.H. Church. Interment will be at 3 p.m. on June 6, 2002 in Scottsville Cemetery, Scottsville, Va. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Bermuda P.H. Church, Mission Fund, 101 W. Hundred Rd., Chester, Va. 23831.

BUTLER
Charles C. (Chuck) Butler, 53, of Midlothian, passed away after a yearlong, determined fight against lymphoma on June 3, 2002. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Denise; sons, Brandon of the home and Shawn of Raleigh, N.C.; parents, Donald and Eileen Butler; brother, John and wife, Amy, all of Raleigh, N.C.; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Michael; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dennis and Debbie Michael, all of Oak Island, N.C.; nieces, Meredith, Jennifer, Kelly and Shayne; and nephew, Trey. A memorial service will be held at St. Gabriels Catholic Church, 8901 Winterpock Rd., Chesterfield, Va. on Thursday evening at 7 p.m. The family will receive visitors from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the church. The hereafter has gained a lover of the mountains and nature, family, friends and animals. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any local SPCA in honor of Chuck and his beloved dog, Bud.

ELLETT
Mrs. JoAnna Savedge Ellett, widow of Ernest Vernon Ellett, died Friday May 31, 2002 at her residence in Richmond, Va. She was a native of Savedge, Virginia and was the daughter of the late William Ackrell and LaBerta Savedge. Mrs. Ellett was a communicant of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Richmond, Va. She taught for a number of years in the Virginia school system. Mrs. Ellett is survived by one daughter, JoAnna Ellett Pickering and husband, C. Chapin Pickering of Clarence Center, N.Y.; one grandson, Kenneth Chapin Pickering and wife, Maria of Worcester, Mass.; granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth Pickering of Boston, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, June 8, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Richmond, Waverly Cemetery, with the Rev. Robert G. Hetherington, rector, officiating. Interment will follow at 3 p.m. in the Waverly Cemetery, Waverly, Va. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 815 E. Grace St., Richmond, Va. 23219. Mrs. Ellett's family is being served by J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, Petersburg, Va. and the Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, Va.

Dolores Cherry Allen Gerner, 70, of Richmond, died Monday, June 3, 2002. She is survived by her husband, William A. Gerner; four children, Robert W. Allen, Jeff K. Allen, Scott D. Allen and Bruce T. Allen; two brothers, Larry Cherry and Robert Cherry; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends Thursday night, 6 to 8 p.m. at St. Edward's the Confessor Catholic Church, 2700 Dolfield Dr. Graveside funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, June 7, 2002 at Dale Memorial Park. Sandra (Sancake) Gray, of 3401 Danbury Road, departed this life Sunday, June 2, 2002. She is survived by her daughter, Monda Gray; son, Anthony Brooks; mother, Dorothy Brown; sister, Elaine Gray; four brothers, Stuart, Charles and Cecil Brown and Steven Walden; four aunts, two uncles, four nieces, seven nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Streets, where funeral services will be held Thursday, June 6 at 12 noon, Rev. Keith Edmonds officiating. Interment Evergreen Cemetery. GRIFFIN
Mr. John R. (Chuck) Griffin Jr., 86, of Richmond, passed away on June 4, 2002. He was the widower of Lois J. Griffin and is survived by his sons, Gene and Robert H. Griffin; one brother, Bobby Griffin; three granddaughters, Denise G. Spigle, Christian G. Flock and Pamela G. Marx; two grandsons, Jason A. and Robert H. Griffin Jr.; and five great-grandchildren, Whitney, Christian, Chase, Griffin and India. Mr. Griffin was a retired Hanover County Sheriff's Deputy. His family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Bliley Funeral Home's Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Ave. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, New Kent, with a reception after the service. Interment will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Richmond. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. GRUBBS
William M. "Buster" Grubbs Sr., 92, of Glen Allen, died June 3, 2002. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hilda B. Grubbs; a son, William M. Grubbs Jr.; and a daughter, Jane Dare Grubbs. He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Catherine K. Grubbs; his brother, James C. Grubbs; his sisters, Margaret G. Doherty and Eva G. Nidermaier; his grandchildren, Christy G. Foldenauer and W. Michael Grubbs. Mr. Grubbs enjoyed a rewarding career as a Master Machinist with Mullins Machine Co. and served for 25 years as Sunday School Superintendent at Bethel Assembly of God. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends Wednesday (today) 4 to 6 p.m., and where funeral services will be held Thursday 11 a.m. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery.

HANCOCK
Mrs. Rosa Conner Hancock, 87, of 1058 Shepherd's Gate Road, South Boston, died Tuesday, June 4, 2002. Surviving are a son, Hubert Trent of Saxe; two daughters, Alice Tucker of Douglasville, Ga. and Nellie Phillips of Richmond; one brother, Emory Conner; and one sister, Lucille Moore, both of South Boston; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 7 until 9 p.m. at Brooks Funeral Home, where funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. with burial in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Home, 115 Main Street, South Boston.

HARRIS
Dowl D. Harris of Richmond, Va. died Tuesday, June 3, 2002. He is survived by three daughters, Darlene Treadway of Richmond, Dale Crabtree of Midlothian and Joy Shepherd of Richmond; his stepson, Mark Wood of Bumpass; and stepdaughter, Brenda Britenburg of Ohio; two brothers, Harvey (Joe) Harris and Junior Harris, both of Richmond; three sisters, Cristie Hughes, Billie Wildes and Bow Guill, all of Richmond; four grandchildren, Karen Hege of Florida, Michael Treadway of Richmond, Ryan Crabtree of Midlothian and Sarah Kammerer of Richmond; a great-grandson, Christopher Kammerer of Richmond. His remains rest at the Lacy Funeral Home, Rt. 522, Mineral, Va., where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Graveside funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday in South Anna Baptist Church Cemetery.

HAYES
John Rives Hayes, 80, of McKenney, widower of Pearl White Martin Hayes, died Monday, June 3, 2002. He was a native and life long resident of McKenney and was predeceased by his parents, John Pilcher and Gertrude Rives Hayes; and sister, Anne Butterworth. He was a 1940 graduate of Sunnyside-McKenney High School and was an Army Air Force veteran of WWII. Mr. Hayes was a retired surveyor from the Virginia Department of Transportation after 46 years of service and was a life long member of Asbury United Methodist Church, a long time member of McKenney Ruritan Club, a former councilman for the town of McKenney and a former Boy Scout Master. He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, John R. and Sally Hayes Jr. of Ill., and Samuel W. and Rebecca Hayes of McKenney; and four grandchildren, Thomas, Matthew, Sarah and Nathan Hayes. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in Asbury United Methodist Church with the pastor Rev. Kitan Petreski officiating. Burial will follow in Asbury Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home of Sam and Becky Hayes. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Asbury United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 351, McKenney, Va. 23872. The family is being served by J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, Petersburg.

HERRMANN
George F. Herrmann Jr., of Chester, Va., died June 4, 2002. He was born in Bristol, Pa. He was the son of the late George F. and Emma Herrmann and was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Grace Gatling Herrmann. Mr. Herrmann retired from Virginia Power following 45 years of service, most of this time spent as plant superintendent at Chesterfield Power Station. He was a 62 year member of the Tuckahoe Masonic Lodge No. 347. He was an active golfer and belonged to Meadowbrook Country Club. He was a member of the Chester Lion's Club for many years. He achieved Eagle Scout status. He graduated from Williamson School in Pennsylvania. Surviving are his daughter, Nancy H. Viar and husband, Kenneth Wayne of Chester, Va.; two grandchildren, Peggy V. Powers and husband, Chris of Wilmington, N.C. and Kenneth W. Viar Jr. and wife, Stephanie of Chesterfield, Va.; and two great-grandchildren, April Lynn Powers and Caroline Gatling Powers of Wilmington, N.C. Also surviving is his brother, Kenneth E. Herrmann and wife, Mary Jane of Ocean City, Md. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, June 7, 2002 in the Chesterfield Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son at 1 p.m. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday, June 6 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
