ROBERTSON
Richard Gaines Robertson Sr., 88, of Petersburg, died July 12, 2002. He was a 1936 graduate of Virginia Tech., and a member of the Virginia Tech. Alumni Association. He was an industrial engineer with DuPont in Richmond, Va. for 35 years. He was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church, Washington St., and actively served on the boards of the Downtown Churches United, and the Petersburg Public Forum. He was a member of Avery's Mill Pond Hunt Club in Surry, Va. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Christa S. Robertson. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Ann Raney Robertson; son, Richard Gaines Robertson Jr. of Dinwiddie; son, John M. Robertson and daughter-in-law, Deborah F. Robertson; granddaughter, Erin Leigh Robertson, all of Chester; daughter, Ann F. Robertson and son-in-law, Bruce Puckett of Dinwiddie. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 16, at the J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, Petersburg. Interment will follow in Blandford Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Petersburg Unit, c/o Wesy Chappell, 1117 Ft. Margaret Hepburn Shaw, 70, on Friday, July 12, 2002, of Walkersville, Md., formerly of Flat Rock; beloved wife of the late Allen Lee Shaw; mother of Beverly A. Dean and Steven H. Shaw; grandmother of Jason A. Dean, Alison M. Dean, Colleen C. Dean, Gina Palazzo, and Heather L. Shaw; sister of Kenneth Love; sister-in-law of Netta Love. Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 16, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, Md. Inurnment will take place at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 17, at Greenwood Memorial Gardens, 14101 Patterson Ave., Richmond, Va. SHELTON
William Lee Shelton, 53, a U.S. Postal employee, entered eternal rest July 11, 2002. He was preceded in death by his parents, Viola E. Shelton and George N. Smith; a sister, Connie S. Parker. He leaves to cherish his memory a devoted wife, Veronica J. Shelton; son, Trevin A. Shelton; sister, Joyce Shelton; brother, John Shelton; four sisters-in-law, Mary Cook (Lawrence), Margaret Pope (Lawrence), Kathy and Carolyn Allen; two brothers-in law, Earl Jeter and Howard Allen Jr.; aunt, Annie B. Shelton; four nieces, Stephanie Shelton, Nanette Nightingale, Talley Parker and Keisha Shelton; a host of other relatives and friends. Ms. Florence E. (Jackie) Simms of Richmond, departed this life suddenly July 10, 2002. She was preceded in death by her father, Freddie Simms Sr.; mother, Florence B. Simms; and brother, Wendell Simms. She is survived by two daughters, Russchelle and Sherrie Simms; two sons, James and Marcus Simms, all of Richmond; 12 grandchildren, four sisters, Barbara A. Carter, Wilnette Simms, Rose Marie Simms, Jean S. Johnson; two brothers, Evanuel (June) R. Simms and Rev. Charles (Burnettia) E. Simms, all of Richmond, Va.; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, one aunt, cousins, other relatives and friends; one very devoted future son-in-law, Terrell Griffin. Remains rest at Mimms Funeral Home, 1827 Hull St., where funeral services will be conducted Monday, July 15, 2002 at 2 p.m. Rev. John Taylor officiating. Interment Maury Cemetery. SPOTT
Oscar E. Spott Jr. of Richmond died Friday, July 12, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Rosalie Hundley Spott; three cousins, Dorothea Hankins, Charles and Joseph Harra. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Ave., where the family will receive friends Sunday and Monday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at The Church of the Holy Comforter. SWEENEY
Donald E. Sweeney of Charles City, formerly of Varina, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 11, 2002. A retiree of Philip Morris, he is survived by two sons, Donald Jr. and Richard B. Sweeney; one grandson, Cameron Sweeney; two sisters, Barbara Hicks and Joyce Campbell; three brothers, Robert, Albert and Edward Sweeney; his companions and caretakers, Betty Sweeney and Donald Bulger. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 South Laburnum Ave., where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday. TAYLOR
Harold M. Taylor Sr., 97, of Richmond, died Thursday, July 11, 2002. He is survived by his son, Harold M. Taylor Jr. and his wife, Margie; grandson, Todd Taylor. Mr. Taylor was retired from Seaboard Railroad. A graveside service will be conducted 10 a.m. Monday, July 15 at Salem Baptist Church Cemetery. TUCK
Colonel Richard Cabell Tuck died on July 5, 2002 in INOVA Fairfax Hospital. After Colonel Tuck retired from the U.S. Army, he was president of his own investment management firm in Annandale, Va. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 23, in The Memorial Chapel at Ft. Myer, Arlington, Va. A burial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 24, in the Old Cadet Chapel at West Point, N.Y. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Episcopal Church, 2500 E. TURNER
Mrs. Rosa Lee Turner, age 92, of Richmond, died July 8, 2002. She was preceded in death by her son, James E. "Buddy" Turner; and a daughter, Beatrice Thorne. Surviving are three daughters, Lillie M. Long (Clyde), Lottie M. Odom and Shirley M. Walker; one son, Leroy Turner (Charlene); 17 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Louisa Powell and Maybell Harris; nieces, one devoted, Mary Cooley, nephews, other relatives and friends. WELLS
Donna Kay Wells, 43, of Mechanicsville, was called home Friday, July 12, 2002 after a battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband, Billy S. Wells; son, William; mother, Betty Lou Shope; brother, Charlie Shope; sisters, Sharon Patterson and Jackie Hardman. Donna was preceded in death by her father, Charles Shope. She was a floral designer with E.P. Naumann Florist and will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife and mother. Remains rest at the Mechanicsville Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd., where the family will receive friends Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., and where services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 16, 2002. Interment Hanover Memorial Park.

WEST
Mrs. Lydia Hinson West, 82, died Thursday, July 11, 2002 at home. A native of Farmville, N.C., she was a Newport News resident for 67 years and for the past year and a half she resided with her son and family in Richmond. She was a member of Noland Memorial United Methodist Church and Women's Auxiliary. She attended Newport News Business College and had several years of employment with the U.S.N. Supervisor of Shipbuilding. Lydia spent 15 years employed at Riverside Regional Medical Center. During the early days of her son's attendance in local schools, Lydia served a term as President of Hilton Elementary School P.T.A. and was on the executive board of Newport News High School P.T.A. Lydia was a member of Emera Chapter No. 31 Order of the Eastern Star. Lydia is survived by a son, Herman B. West III and his wife, Elaine B. West; three granddaughters, Jane, Julia and Elizabeth West, all of Richmond. A graveside service will be held on Monday, July 15, 11 a.m. at Peninsula Memorial Park officiated by Rev. Peter Vaughn. Arrangements are being handled by Riverside Funeral Home.

WHITAKER
Carolyn L. Whitaker, 53, of Richmond has won her battle with cancer. She went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, July 13, 2002. She is survived by her husband, Bob; five children, Barbara, Debara, Bobby, Tommy and Shannon; ten grandchildren; her two brothers, James and Richard Lazenby; four aunts; her loving and devoted friends, Chris and Kay Chalos; and a host of friends. The family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Road, where services will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday. She will be laid to rest in Greenwood Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

BROOKS
William Franklin Brooks Sr., 97, of Dunnsville, died Tuesday, February 19, 2002. He was preceded in death by his wife, Susan Mae Brooks and his stepdaughter, Anna Langford. He is survived by two sons, W. Franklin Brooks Jr. of Richmond and Floyd E. Brooks of Tappahannock; three daughters, Clara Elizabeth Long of Aylett, Margaret Anne Lee of Mechanicsville, Shirley Lee Umphlette of Dunnsville; two special stepdaughters, Elisie L. Gischel of Tappahannock and Dorothy Mae Akers of Howertons; one sister, Vernelle Moncell of Michigan; 21 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren, 21 great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-great-grandson. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday in the Marks-Bristow Funeral Home, Tappahannock. Interment Ephesus Baptist Church Cemetery, Dunnsville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Faith Baptist Church or the Tappahannock Volunteer Rescue Squad.

BRUNSON
Departed this life February 20, 2002, Mrs. Frances L. Brunson of 1724 Claiborne Street. Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Ave. Funeral notice later.

BURTON
Mary Womack Burton of Chester and the widow of W. Wayne Burton Sr. died February 20, 2002. She is survived by her son, W. Wayne Burton Jr. of Midlothian; three grandchildren, Lauren S., Michael J., Kelly E. Burton; sister, Sarah W. Lush of Cumberland, Va.; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2:30 p.m. in the Chesterfield Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

CAMP
Paul Charles Camp, 88, of Richmond, died Monday, February 18, 2002. He is survived by eight children, Marilyn Jo Camp, Carol C. Halcom, Paul C. Camp, Teresa M. Birkeland, Larry J. Camp, Hilda M. Cornell, Wayne E. Camp and Don A. Camp; 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Arline Miller, Maxine Aldridge and Doris Nelson; and a brother-in-law, Bill Jones. Mr. Camp was a member of New Bridge Baptist Church, the Beekeepers Associations of Virginia and Indiana, a Master Pastry Chef, a gentleman farmer and portrayed Santa Claus at Eastgate Mall for over 20 years. He also worked at Fisherman's Cove Restaurant in Mechanicsville, and was well known for his ice carvings and wedding cakes. The family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Laburnum Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 2110 East Laburnum Avenue, where services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. Interment Maury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to New Bridge Baptist Church. Mr. Camp was a member of Glen Allen Lodge #131, AF&AM, which will hold a memorial service 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

CARTER
Winifred Jane Lambert Carter, 74, of Goochland, Va., passed away February 19, 2002 after a long illness. Survived by her husband of 53 years, Marvin Sutton Carter; and her daughter, Catherine and son-in-law, William M. Haskins Jr. of Goochland, Va.; a brother, Harold C. Lambert and wife, Diane of Galveston, Texas; also two nephews. Mrs. Carter taught school in Virginia Beach until retiring in 1976, and lived in Ft. Myers, Fla. until returning to Virginia in 1991. A private family service is planned. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to F.L.A.G. or Goochland Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad Co. 5.

COBB
Frances McLeod Cobb of Henrico passed away February 18, 2002. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Nannie McLeod. She is survived by her husband William Lewis (Jake) Cobb and several nieces and nephews. She was a member of Chamberlayne Heights UMC and she graduated from Johnston Willis School of Nursing in 1941. She also worked at Johnston Willis Hospital as well as the Richmond Eye Hospital. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Chamberlayne Heights UMC, 6100 Chamberlayne Rd. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church.

COOK
Calvin Cameron Cook, 77, of Richmond, passed on February 14, 2002. Born in Pineville, W.Va., he was a retired surveyor. He had lived in the Richmond area for 50 years. He is survived by his wife, Betty Jean Cook; son, Richard Cameron Cook; daughters, Kathy C. Gentry and Teresa D. Clark; two granddaughters, Laura Elizabeth Gentry and Katherine Cameron Gentry; and his beloved dog, Stewart, who was his constant companion. Also surviving are one brother and five sisters. There will be a memorial service at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 23, conducted by Rev. Bill Dillard. Donations may be made in his memory to the National Wildlife Federation or the Maymont Park Foundation.
