BARNETT
Paul Raymond Barnett, 88, widower of Margaret Elizabeth (Hash) Barnett, of 1603 Dennison Ave., Staunton, died at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, October 9, 2001, in the Augusta Nursing and Rehab Center, Fishersville. He was born on June 22, 1913 in Saltville, a son of Jospeh William and Mary Belle (Coran) Barnett. Mr. Barnett was a veteran of World War II and prior to retirement was sales manager for Valleydale Meat Packers with 50 years of service. He was a member of Marquis Memorial United Methodist Church where he served as a Trustee and was a member of the Adminsitrative Board. His wife preceded him in death on July 4, 1998. Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Jane (Barnett) and H. Ken Elkins of Weyers Cave and Cynthia Barnett of Richmond and Outer Banks, N.C.; and a grandson, Trae Elkins. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 13, 2001, in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. S. Wayne Rickman and Mrs. Frances Thornton. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday evening in the funeral home. It is suggested that those desiring may make memorial donations to the Marquis Memorial United Methodist Church, 1614 W. Beverley St., Staunton, Va. 24401.

BERTRAM
Leon Leroy Bertram, 84, of The Hermitage at Cedarfield Retirement Community, Richmond, died October 9, 2001 at St. Mary's Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Hazel R. Bertram; two daughters, Diana B. Quinlan and husband, Michael of Hopewell and Kathleen B. Hollingsworth and her husband, Kenneth of Harrisburg, Pa.; three granddaughters, Kathleen Q. Simpson and husband, Matthew of Prince George, Va., Beverly J. Quinlan of College Park, Md. and Jessica L. Kaplon of West Chester, Pa.; one sister, Donna B. Rehnborg of Boulder, Colo.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was born in Corry, Pa. and graduated from Penn State University in 1941 with a degree in chemistry. He was hired by Hercules Inc. in Wilmington, Del. and was sent to the Hopewell, Va. plant where he later became assistant plant manager. In 1976 he was transferred to a Hercules plant in France, where he worked on improvement and expansion projects and was a consultant for several Hercules plants in Europe. Upon his retirement in 1979 he returned to his home of many years in Hopewell. Va. While living in Hopewell he was an active member of First United Methodist Church and held many positions on the board, including that of chairman. He also served as president of the Men's Club. He was a member of the Hopewell Rotary Club, where he served as president; a member of the John Randolph Hospital Authority, where he was chairman when a major expansion was made to the hospital. He also served as president of the Historic Hopewell Foundation during the time of the restoration of a Georgian-style plantation on the Appomattox known as "Weston Manor", the restoration of a Civil War Chapel and the home of Dr. Peter Eppes. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, October 13, in the Great Room of the Health Center of the Hermitage at Cedarfield, with the Rev. Dr. John B. Peters of Trinity United Methodist Church and Cederfield Chaplain, the Rev. Louis Carson, officiating. Burial will be private in Sunset Memorial Park, Chester. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Trinity United Methodist Samaritan Fund or to the charity of your choice.

BOOKER
Addie Wyatt Booker of 2123 N. 29th St. died October 9, 2001. She is survived by five nieces, Linda Collins, a devoted Addie Davis, Louise Egister, Elsie Brackett and Delores Winston; one nephew, Noah Davis; one great-nephew, Antonio Collins; a foster sister, Rosa Wiley; a host of other relatives and friends. Remains rest at the Scott-Lightfoot Funeral Home, 3021 "N" St. After 11 a.m. Friday remains will rest at the First African Baptist Church, 2700 Hanes Ave., where services will be held at 12 noon. Rev. Dennis E. Thomas, Pastor, officiating. Interment Oakwood Cemetery.

Departed this life October 8, 2001, Mr. Junius R. "Junie" Booker Jr. of 305 S. Laburnum Ave. He is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Ila Flanagan Booker; a sister, Thelma Booker Smith of Newport News, Va.; a sister-in-law, Eunice Booker; a brother-in-law, Girard T. Flanagan (Constance) of Baltimore, Md.; an aunt, Ethel Martin of Jersey City, N.J.; devoted nieces and nephews, Nancy Stoney (Archie) of Suffolk, Va., Elwood Booker Jr., Gloria B. Jennings (Clarence), Anthony R. Booker, Nina Booker, Roshell Booker, Cecil Flanagan of Miama, Fla. and Horace Flanagan (Katrina); several great-nieces and great-nephews; and one cousin, Edward Brown of Brooklyn, N.Y. Remains rest at Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 N. 25th St., where the family will receive friends Thursday 7 to 8 p.m. Remains will lie in state Friday 12 noon at Fourth Baptist Church, 2800 "P" St., where services will be held 1 p.m. Dr. Grady Powell officiating. Burial Oakwood Cemetery.

BRINKLEY
Lemuel R. "Pete" Brinkley Sr., 77, of Richmond, died Monday, October 8, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 54½ years, Martha Griffin Brinkley; daughter, Linda Darlene Spires and her husband, George; son, Lemuel R. "Rusty" Brinkley Jr. and his wife, Beverley; three granddaughters, Laurie Haley and her husband, Michael, Mary and Elizabeth Spires; three grandsons, Shawn, Phillip and Daniel Brinkley; two great-grandsons, James and Kameron Haley, all of Richmond; sister, Dorothy Kaster and her husband, Fred of Titusville, Pa.; sister-in-law, Annie Mary Brinkley of Newport News, Va.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Brinkley served in the Army in Europe during WWII with the 114th Evacuation Hospital Unit, and was an engineer with VDOT for almost 38 years. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Huguenot Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Rd. Services will be held at Bon Air Presbyterian Church, 9201 West Huguenot Rd., on Thursday at 11 a.m. conducted by Dr. Charles Grant. Interment Greenwood Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 4600 Cox Rd., Glen Allen, Va., 23060.

Bobbie R. Cook of Richmond, departed this life Friday, October 5, 2001. He is survived by his mother, Margaret Cook; two sisters, Rosemary Allen and Brenda Price; five brothers, Lewis Richard and William Cook, Eugene Garrett and John Hancock; five aunts, two uncles, three sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law; a host of nieces and nephews, among them a devoted nephew, Daniel Green; a devoted companion, Felita Crawford; other relatives and friends, among them devoted friends, Jeff Johnstone, Warren White and Phyllis Richardson. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Sts., where the family will receive friends Thursday (today), 7 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 12, 1 p.m. at Great-Hope Baptist Church, 2101 Venable St. Rev. Earl Bledsoe, pastor. Rev. Julia Minor, officiating. Interment in Maury Cemetery. After 12 noon Friday, remains will rest in the above named church until hour of service. Relatives and friends attending funeral services, assemble at the church, Friday, 12:30 p.m.

CORNETT
Anne "Piggie" Anderson Lefleor Cornett of Richmond passed away October 10, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband, W.R. Cornett; and is survived by two daughters, Vicki L. Peranski and her husband, Larry of Richmond and Valerie L. Hale of Georgia; four sons, Marshall W. Lefleor of Richmond and David L. Lefleor of Petersburg, W.R. Cornett Jr. and his wife, Dana of Mechanicsville and Richard L. Cornett and his wife, Joyce of Powhatan; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Joyce A. Belton of Richmond and June A. Johnston and her husband, Russell of Minnesota; aunt, Lucille S. Leake of Richmond; several cousins, among them two very special, Merle Martin and Pearl Ellis; and many, many "Eagle" Sisters and Brothers. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends 3 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and where services will be held Saturday at 12:30 p.m. Interment Signal Hill Memorial Park. Anne was a 35-year member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary, having served as Past Madam President, and was a 10-year State Auxiliary Secretary. She currently belonged to Lakeside Auxiliary No. 4211. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Central Virginia, 7231 Forest Ave., Suite 100, Richmond, Va., 23226.

CROWE
W. Gordon Crowe, age 83, a retired waterman of Wake, died Wednesday, October 10, 2001. He was a member of Harmony Grove Baptist Church and a World War II Army veteran. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lilliam W. Crowe; and a son, William G. Crowe Jr. Survived by a daughter, Cindy C. Harding of Aylett; a son, Daniel R. Crowe of Shacklefords; and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday in Harmony Grove Baptist Church, Topping. Interment church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday (tonight) at Bristow-Faulkner Funeral Home, Saluda. Memorial gifts may be made to Harmony Grove Baptist Church, P.O. Departed this life October 7, 2001, Mrs. Laura P. Davis of 6922 Bluff Dr. She is survived by her loving husband, James I. Davis Sr.; one son, James I. Davis Jr.; one granddaughter, Teylor A. Davis; five sisters, Pansy Miles, Juanita Footman, Geraldine Reid, Alma Williams and Etta McMillan; three brothers, Marvin, John and James Perry; host of nieces, nephews and cousins; daughter-in-law, Jamede R. Davis; three sisters-in-law, Bertha Echoles, Madames Mary S. and Nonnie C. Perry; five brothers-in-law, Ulysses Davis, Thomas Miles, Russell Reid, Clarence Williams and Rev. Charlie McMillan; and other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Ave. Funeral Friday, 12 noon, Fifth Baptist Church, 1415 W. DUKE
James Armitage Duke, 80, of Manakin-Sabot, passed away Wednesday, October 10, 2001. He was a retired engineer of the RF&P Railroad. Mr. Duke was a longtime member of the ACCA Temple Shrine, member of Meridian Lodge No. 284, A.F.& A.M., and a member of Deep Run Hunt Club. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Cheatwood Duke; two sons, James Armitage Duke Jr. and Orlando Bernard Duke; two daughters, Pamela Duke Ottley and her husband, William P. Ottley Jr., and Becky Lynn Duke; and one grandson, Michael Benjamin Ottley. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, October 12, 2001, at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

DUNCAN
Steven Shane Duncan, age 23, of Richmond died October 4, 2001 in Richmond. He was born June 20, 1978 in Cheyenne, Wyo. and is survived by his father, Steve Duncan and wife, Christine of Afton; his mother, Gayle Griffin Noble and husband, Robert of Scottsville; his brother, Aaron Lee Duncan of Richmond; his finacee, Kerry L. Beck and son, Christian Ryann Duncan of Mechanicsville; his grandparents, Archer P. and Patsy P. Griffin of Fork Union, Mary Lee Duncan of Scottsville, Doris P. Duncan of Jacksonville, N.C. and Bobby Lee Noble of Arvonia; his great-grandmother, Hilda A. Parrish of Goochland; and numerous aunts, uncles, other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Robert W. Duncan; and his great-grandparents, George Porter and Florence Petit Griffin and Phillip Tim Parrish. Shane was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. He was highly respected by his many friends and colleagues within the music communities of Richmond and Charlottesville. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, October 14 at Bethel Baptist Church, Palmyra, Va. Interment to follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Buddy Woodson and Rev. Allan Mitchell will officiate. The family will receive friends at Bethel Baptist Church from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday evening. Sheridan Funeral Home of Kents Store is in charge of arrangements. An account has been established for Christian Ryann Duncan at Wachovia Bank. Contributions may be made at any branch.

GALLOWAY
Charlie H. Galloway Sr., 85, of Ruther Glen, died October 8, 2001 at his residence. He is survived by his wife, Gladys of Ruther Glen; one daughter, Eva of Bowling Green; one son, Charlie H. Jr. of Temple Hills, Md.; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Clarissa Otey and Madge Beverley, both of Ruther Glen; and one brother, Clyde Sr. of Ruther Glen. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 13 at 1 p.m. at the Mt. Salem Baptist Church, Ruther Glen. Rev. Bernard Goode officiating. Remains can be viewed from 12 to 8 Friday at the funeral home and at the church beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday. Interment church cemetery. Arrangements by Cedell Brooks Funeral Home, Port Royal, Va.

GULLEY
Kathy R. Gulley of 3820 Terminal Ave., formerly of Farmville, Va., died October 7, 2001. Surviving are a daughter, Artisha Gulley; fiance, Jeffrey Williams; three brothers, Steve, Jackie and Henry Scott; one sister, Elnora Balwin; a host of nieces and nephews; two sisters-in-law, Sadie and Doris Scott; one brother-in-law, Thomas Balwin; other relatives, friends, and church family. Her remains rest at Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Pk. Blvd. After 12 noon Saturday, remains will rest in New Light Deliverance Tabernacle Baptist Church, 5450 Midlothian Turnpike, where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Rev. John D. Haire Jr. of Petersburg died Tuesday, October 10, 2001. Surviving are his wife, Jean F. Haire; a daughter, Jeanne (Bunnie) Eastwood and husband, Donald; and two granddaughters, Elizabeth E. Underhill and Christina R. Eastwood. A visitation will be held Friday, October 12, 2001 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church from 5 to 7 p.m. with a funeral Mass being said at 7 p.m. Burial will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church Cemetery.
