HILL
Katherine Hill of Petersburg, died Saturday, May 5, 2001. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Ray Hill; brother, Alfred Holderfield of Nashville, Tenn.; sister, Mildred Greene of Chesterfield; nieces and nephews, Barbara Holderfield of Dinwiddie, Diane Berberick of Sutherland, Carrol Reed and Alan Holderfield, both of Nashville, Otis Greene of Chesterfield, and Bobby Holderfield of Disputanta. The family will have a private graveside service in Southlawn Memorial Park. The family is being served by J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, Petersburg.

LUCK
Joyce Gill Luck, 73, of Richmond, died Friday, May 4, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Royden (Junie) K. Luck Jr., and is survived by her daughter, Bonnie L. Abernathy and her husband, Randy; one son, Stanley (Biggie) S. Luck; four grandchildren, Brian K. Abernathy and his wife, Stefanie, Teri A. Askew and her husband, Jason, John Luck, and Elizabeth A. Luck; and one great-granddaughter, Alyssa Rae Askew. Mrs. Luck was a lifelong member of Calvary United Methodist Church, a former member of the Powhatan Hill Junior Woman's Club and Past President of the American Legion Auxiliary Sandston Post #242. Her remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, and where funeral services will be conducted 12 noon on Tuesday. Interment Oakwood Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society.

MACKLIN
Departed this life May 3, 2001, George H. Macklin Sr. of Richmond. He is survived by his loving wife, Almega Harris Macklin; one son, George H. Macklin Jr.; two stepsons, Raymond B. and Anthony O. Harris; stepdaughter, Margaret H. Waters; three grandsons, George III, Daniel Parker and Raymond M. Waters; one granddaughter, Andrea C. Harris; two sisters, Lillie M. Scott and Doris M. Woolford; several nieces, among them, Mary B. Stokes; nephews and cousins; one daughter-in-law, Vikki P. Harris; one son-in-law and other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Ave. Funeral Tuesday 11 a.m. at Sharon Baptist Church, corner of 1st and Leigh Sts., where remains will lie in state one hour prior to funeral time. Rev. Paul Coles, Pastor, officiating. Interment Riverview Cemetery. Family and friends assemble at the church 10:45 a.m. Tuesday.

POWELL
Dolly Bennett Powell, 83, of Varina, passed away at her home on Sunday, May 6, 2001. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Joyce Spivey. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Lawrence D. Powell Sr.; a daughter, Frances Lammey and her husband, Bobby; a son, Lawrence (Larry) Powell Jr. and his wife, Ann; six grandchildren, Wanda Carter, Sharlene Shannon, Dawn Taylor, Robert Lammey III, Donald Powell III and Barron Powell; ten great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; her brother, Charles B. Bennett of Powhatan. Her remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, and where services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday. Interment Washington Memorial Park. Contributions may be made to the Bon Secours Hospice Program or the American Cancer Society.

ROARK
Steve Edward Roark, 57, of Clarksville, died Saturday, May 5, 2001. He was born March 17, 1944 to Elva Roark and the late William Edwin Roark, and was predeceased by a son, Randy Neal Roark. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his children, Robert Anthony "Andy" Roark of Keysville, Rhonda Roark Lewis of Gloucester Point, Amanda Roark Noblin of Kenbridge, Steven Edward Roark and Reagan Wyatt Roark, both of Crewe; brothers, Don Roark and Howard Roark; sisters, Gaye Lawson and Anne King: three grandchildren, Derrick, Samantha, and Jacob; and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at Newcomb Allgood Davis Funeral Home, Chase City, Monday, May 7 from 7 to 8:30 p.m., and where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Tuesday. Interment will be at Crestview Memorial Cemetery in Victoria, Va. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Society of Virginia or Clarksville Rescue Squad. Newcomb Allgood Davis Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

ROBINETTE
Mary Burton Robinette, 64, of Richmond, died May 5, 2001. She is survived by her husband, Gene B. Robinette; daughters, Paula Grizzard, Rene Morgan; sons, Russell, Linwood and Keith Pettis; stepson, Ricky Robinette; stepdaughter, Carolyn Schibner; sister, Lucille Hayes; brother, Bobby Burton; seven grandchildren. Mrs. Robinette was a member of Buford Road Baptist Church. The family will recieve friends Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd., (Rt. 10). Her funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment at Sunset Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Bon Secours Hospice, 5875 Bremo Rd., Suite 710, Richmond, Va. 23226.

RODGERS
William Russell Rodgers Jr., age 57, of Lawrenceville, Va., died May 4, 2001. Mr. Rodgers graduated from Brunswick High School, attended Randolph Macon College and graduated from MCV School of Pharmacy in 1967. He was a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans and the Brunswick County Library Board. He is survived by a sister, Manning R. Holmes of Clayton, Ga.; and an aunt, Mildred S. Rawlings of Lawrenceville. A memorial service will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, May 12, 2001 at the Williams Funeral Home, Lawrenceville, followed by a visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Brunswick County Library.

SEIFERT
Mollie Louise Seifert, widow of R. Blaine Seifert, passed peacefully into the presence of her Lord on Saturday, May 5, 2001. She is survived by one son, Glenn Blackburn; one stepdaughter, Jean S. Duling; one brother, Thomas M. Gravitt; four grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter who is named after her great-grandmother. Mrs. Seifert was a member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, the ACCA Temple Provettes, and was a retiree of the Children's Hospital. Remains rest at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave., where the family will receive friends Monday, May 7, 2001 from 4 to 6 p.m. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Mausoleum Chapel at West Hampton Memorial Park. Interment will be private. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Children's Hospital, 2924 Brook Rd., Richmond, Va. 23230.

SIMMONS
Mrs. Goldie Ann Turner Simmons, 53, of Indian Woods Trail, Courtland, died Sunday, May 6, 2001 at East Pavilion, Franklin, after a long illness. She was the widow of Bobby Bell Simmons and the daughter of the late Lillian Turner and Naomi Julia Dunlow Turner. She was a certified nursing assistant. She is survived by a daughter, Anna Simmons Croak of Capron; a brother, M.D. Turner of North Carolina; two sisters, Martha Virginia Yopp of Concord and Rose Marie Turner Cross of Portsmouth; two grandchildren, Elizabeth Ann Simmons and Justin Tyler Croak. She was the sister of the late Lillian Mae Turner Price. A service of Remembrance will be held on Wednesday, May 9, 2001 at 2 p.m. in Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:30 to 2 p.m. prior to the service. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Southampton Memorial Hospice in Franklin, Va.

SMITH
Mr. J. Kemp Smith, 58, of Bowling Green in Caroline County, died at his home Saturday, May 5, 2001. Born in Richmond, he was a lifetime resident of Caroline County, a member of Concord Baptist Church, a Director and Vice-President at Caroline Savings Bank, Past Vice-Chairman of the Caroline County Industrial Development Authority, Past President of the Caroline Jaycees, and had served on the Board of Directors of the Caroline County Chamber of Commerce. Survivors include his mother, Lannie "Pat" Smith of Bowling Green; two daughters, Rena Sharpe of Midlothian and Corey Oster of Guam; a sister, Patricia Jones of Richmond; four grandchildren; and his fiancee, Betty Jo Mitchell of Bowling Green. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2001 in the chapel of Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green, with Rev. Kevin James officiating. Burial will follow in Lakewood Cemetery, Bowling Green. The family will receive friends 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 9345 Canvasback Ct., Port Royal, Va. 22535 or the Bowling Green Vol. Fire Department, P.O. Box 161, Bowling Green, Va. 22427.

SUTPHIN
Grace Price Sutphin, age 89, of Blackstone, died Saturday, May 5, 2001. She is survived by two daughters, Peggy S. Cournow of Blackstone, Va. and Bonnie S. Ringo of Nathalie, Va.; two sisters, Bessie P. Cullum of Harve de Grave, Md. and Mary P. Slate of Elizabethtown, Ky.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hamner McMillian Funeral Home with burial in Grace United Methodist Church Cemetery, Wilsons, Va. The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Nottoway County Emergency Squad or Grace United Methodist Church.

WILLIAMS

WOLFE
Pearl Walton Wolfe, 89, of West Point, Va., died Sunday, May 6, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Earl Wolfe and daughter, Constance Wolfe Costa. She was a member of First Baptist Church of West Point, Riverview Chapter #69 O.E.S. and Pioneers of C & P Telephone Company. She is survived by a daughter, Jean and her husband, James Bohannon; grandson, James C. and his wife, Pamela Jo Bohannon; granddaughter, Cynthia and her husband, Wade Timberlake; two great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter all of West Point. A funeral service will be held Tuesday 2 p.m. at Vincent Funeral Home, West Point, Va. with interment in Sunny Slope Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

BARBOUR
Rebecca L. Barbour of Charles City departed this life March 17, 2002. Remains rest at J. Leroy Charity Funeral Home, Charles City. Funeral notice later.

BATTE
Virginia Vesper Batte, age 81, of Rawlings and formerly of Freeman, Va., died March 17, 2002. She is survived by two daughters, Sandy Sneade and her husband, Sam of Rawlings and Norma Silvius and her husband, Ross of Richmond; three grandchildren, J. Brandon Baird of Brunswick Co., Dana L. Baird of Charlottesville and Troy W. Sneade of Rawlings; a stepgrandson, James R. Silvius and his family of Richmond; a grandson, Adam A. Sneade, preceded her in death. She is also survived by a sister, Aurelia R. Wikoff of Denton, Texas; and her special friends of Heritage Hall-Amelia Nursing Home. Graveside services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday at Providence United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Williams Funeral Home, Lawrenceville. Memorials, if desired, can be made in care of Gin Snead for the Garden Fund, Heritage Hall-Amelia, 8830 Virginia Street, Amelia, Va. 23002.

BLACKBURN
Robert M. Blackburn, 82, died on Sunday, March 17, 2002 in Jacksonville, Florida. He was born in Bartow, Florida, graduated from Orlando Florida High School, Florida Southern College and Candler School of Theology at Emory University and was ordained a Methodist minister in 1943. He retired as Bishop of the Virginia Conference of the United Methodist Church in 1988. He served the following pastorates in the Florida Conference: Boca Grande (1943-44), U.S. Army Chaplain with the 16th Armored Division in Europe (1944-46), First Methodist, Orlando as Associate Pastor (1946-49), Mount Dora, Florida (1949-53), Trinity Church, Deland (1953-60), First Methodist, Jacksonville (1960-68), First Methodist, Orlando, Senior Pastor, (1968-72). In 1972 he was elected a Bishop in the United Methodist Church and served as Bishop of the North Carolina Conference (1972-80) and then for eight years in the Virginia Conference (1980-88). Bishop Blackburn had honorary doctorate degrees from Florida Southern College, LaGrange College, North Carolina Wesleyan College, and Shenandoah University. He was a member of Who's Who in America. He served on the Boards of Trustees of the following colleges and universities: Emory University, Florida Southern College, North Carolina Wesleyan, Methodist College, North Carolina, Greensboro College, Louisburg College, Virginia Wesleyan, Randolph Macon College, Ferrum College and Shenandoah University. Bishop Blackburn was a charter member of the Board of Trustees of Methodist Hospital, Jacksonville, and also of Wesley Woods Retirement Home, Jacksonville. Since retirement, Bishop Blackburn served as interim pastor at Swaim United Methodist Church and Riverside Park United Methodist Church, in Jacksonville. It gave him much joy to return to the local pastorate, his first love of the church. He was married in 1943 to Mary Jeanne Everett of Atlanta, Georgia, who was the mother of his three children: Jeanne Marie Cox (Ray) 5, of Rome, Georgia; Robert Jr. (Sarah) of Asheville, N.C. and Frances Blackburn Harwood (John) of Silver Spring, Maryland. After the death of his first wife, he was married in 1978 to Jewell Fannin Haddock, who was the widow of Judge L. Page Haddock and mother of Nancy Haddock Price (John) of Tequesta, Florida; Judge Lawrence Page Haddock Jr. (Christy), Jacksonville; and Elizabeth H. Ruvo (Richard), Port St. Lucie. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, five stepgrandchildren, and one stepgreat-grandson. Family burial will take place at 2 p.m. today in Oaklawn Cemetery, Jacksonville. A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist (Church St. at Newnan St.), Jacksonville, at 4 p.m. today. The family will greet friends after the service in the Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to the Endowment Fund of First United Methodist Church in Jacksonville.

BREWER
Mrs. Ellen Brewer of Richmond departed this life Monday, March 18, 2002. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Streets. Funeral notice later.
