Margaret Wishard
Middlebury, Vermont
Margaret Wishard, 98, passed away on November 28, 1999 at the Helen Porter Nursing Home in Middlebury.. She was born in Silver Bay, New York on July 16, 1901, the daughter of Luther and Eva May Wishard.
Her father was a YMCA Secretary, instrumental in establishing the Silver Bay Association. Holding a Master's Degree from Columbia University, she worked as a nurse for nearly a half-century, primarily in Westchester County, New York schools. She was an active long-time member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Larchmont Yacht Club.
She is survived by her nephew, Willard W Brown; two great-nephews, Tibor Brown of Salt Lake City, Utah and Willard Z. Brown of Greensboro, North Carolina.
Margaret was predeceased by her sister, Winifred Brown in 1974.
Memorial contributions can be made in her memory to the New York Metropolitan Opera Association, c/o David W. Martin, Director of Planned Giving, Lincoln Center, New York, New York 10023.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Jerome P. Sabourin
Bridport, Vermont
Jerome P. Sabourin, 77, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home on December 1, 1999.
He was born May 14, 1922 in Moose Creek, Ontario, the son of Ernest and Emily (Charlebois) Sabourin.
He farmed in Addison for forty years and worked for Atwood Apple Orchard in Shoreham for fifteen years. He retired in 1994 and he enjoyed working in his vegetable garden.
Jerome married his wife Kelly in May of 1949 and she predeceased him in May of 1992.
He is survived by his daughter, Joanne of Essex Jct.; a son, Richard and his wife Tana of West Branch, Iowa; two grandsons, Jeremiah and Joshua; a granddaughter,Jennifer; eight brothers, Wilfred and Gisele Sabourin of Eutis, Florida, Leo and Therese Sabourin and Edward and Theresa Sabourin, both of Moose Creek, Ontario; Alcide and Verna Sabourin of Cornwall, Ontario; Archie and Diane Sabourin of Moose Creek, Ontario, Lionel and Claire Sabourin and Andre and Marguerite Sabourin, both of Cornwall Ontario; and Lucien Sabourin of Ile Perrot, Quebec. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Jerome was predeceased by four brothers, Rolland, Adelard, Raymond, Morris and Fernand.
Funeral services were held Saturday, December 4, 1999 at the Brown-McClay Funeral Home in Vergennes. Burial will be at a later date.

Henry R. Martell
Bristol, Vermont
Henry R. Martell, 76, died Wednesday, December 1, 1999 at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.
He was born on May 7, 1923, the son of Alson and Carrie (Cobb) Martell.
In his teens he worked with his brothers, logging. Later he worked at the Coffin Factory. He worked for Brush Motors and Foster for over 30 years in the Body and Fender Department. In later years he was a carpenter. He loved woodworking and we have many things he made to remember him by.
He was a man of few words, but always found a way to solve our problems and never complained about the results of his medical problems.
He leaves two daughters; Nancy Martell and Sharon Dolloff, both of Bristol; a son and his wife, Marty and Kathy Martell of New Haven; four grandchildren, Heather Mae Dolloff of Bristol, Kayleen, Courtney, Kori Martell, all of New Haven; a sister, Hattie Gleason of Shoreham; long time friends and brother-in-law Lorengo Gagnon and Lena Dukette of Bristol; two sisters-in-law, Christine Martell of New Hampshire, Barb Martell of New Haven; and many nieces and nephews.
Henry was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Mae, who died February 9, 1999; five brothers and four sisters.
Services were held Saturday, December 4, 1999 at Greenwood Cemetery in Bristol.
Contributions may be made to the Bristol Rescue Squad, Bristol, Vermont 05443.

Susan Mary Brigan Muniz
Vergennes, Vermont
Susan Mary Brigan Muniz, 39, is resting peacefully with God in Heaven after a courageous battle with Leukemia. She left us in the early evening on December 1, 1999 while at home with her family in Vergennes. Susan was the wife of Dean Muniz, mother of Dan and Deena Muniz, and daughter of John and Nancy Brigan. She was born on July 16, 1960 in Middlebury.
She struggled with cancer for four years, with a smile and selfless concern for others. Her battle began with a bone-marrow transplant. Although Susan was never fortunate enough to meet her donor, she knew that without him she would not have been able to enjoy the last years with her family. He was always in her thoughts.
Susan was a parishioner at St. Peter's Church of Vergennes and was an important part of the Women's Retreat group, and had been present at each of the three retreats since its inception. Susan's short life was devoted to the care of her husband and children. Her strength in battling cancer was inspiring to all that knew and loved her. Susan credited her courage and strength to her faith in God and family.
In addition to her husband Dean and children Dan and Deena, Susan is survived by her beloved mother-in-law Connie Muniz, sister Cindy and her husband Eugene LeBeau; brother John Brigan, sister Laurie and her husband Mel Hawley, brother Thomas Brigan and his wife Lynn, brother Robert Brigan and friend Robin Cola; three sisters-in-law, Charlene Riviait, Christine Muniz, Deneen LaMothe, and a brother-in-law Bryon Muniz. Susan has many special aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Her surviving nieces and nephews are Amy Hawley, Amanda Brigan, Ashley Rivait, Molly Brigan, Megan Muniz, Eric LeBeau, Jason LeBeau, Aaron Hawley, Jesse Brigan, Casey Brigan, Ryan Muniz, and Christopher LaMothe. Susan also leaves her special friend Doris "Meemo" Knowlton who was such an inspiration to all of the Muniz family.
A mass of Christian burial was celebrated Saturday, December 4, 1999 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Vergennes. Interment was in St. Peter's Cemetery in Vergennes.
Contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice or the Addison County Home Health and Hospice, Middlebury, Vermont 05753.

Victor (Vic) Samaritoni
Vergennes, Vermont
Victor (Vic) Angelo Samaritoni, 20, died Thursday, December 2, 1999 at Porter Medical Center in Middlebury.
He was born on April 16, 1979 in Middlebury, the son of Joseph and Alice (Suitor) Samaritoni.
Vic was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Middlebury.
He is survived by his parents of Vergennes, four brothers; Alexander of Florida, Anthony, Marco, and Gian, all of Vergennes; two sisters; Maria and Emma, also of Vergennes; Grandmother Adelaide Suitor of Ohio, several aunts, uncles and cousins.
A mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Tuesday, December 7, 1999 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Middlebury. Interment was in St. Peter's Cemetery in Vergennes.
Contributions may be made for Masses in Vic's memory.

Mary Jane Walker
Orwell, Vermont
Mary Jane Walker, 38, died Thursday, December 2, 1999 at Porter Medical Center in Middlebury.
Mrs. Walker was born in Middlebury on May 6, 1961. She was the daughter of Wayland and Sylvia (Kimball) Brace. She had been a resident of Orwell for the past 10 years, moving from Benson. On September 21, 1979 she married John Walker in Bridport. In earlier years she had operated a Registered Day Care Center in Benson. She had been a Home Care Provider for the past several years.
Surviving is her husband John Walker of Orwell; one son, Michael P. Walker and his wife Nicole of New Haven; a daughter Lynn M. Hadvab and her husband Ryan of Benson; six sisters, Sherry Ouellette of Bridport, Cindy Barrows of Burlington, Tammy Havens of Brandon, Wendy Begnoche of Orwell, Stacey Malinowski of Leicester and Christina Brace of Panton; one brother Scott Brace of Ferrisburgh; her mother, Sylvia LeClair and stepfather Charles LeClair of Ferrisburgh; her father, Wayland Brace and stepmother Debbie Brace of Panton; one granddaughter, Kayliegh Walker. She is also survived by several aunts, uncles and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by a brother, Dennis Brace in 1995.
Funeral services were held Monday, December 6, 1999 at the Mallory Funeral Home in Fair Haven. Entombment followed the service at St. Mary's Cemetery Receiving Vault. A graveside committal service and burial will take place at a later date, in the family lot, at Fairview Cemetery in Benson.
Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Orwell First Response Squad, c/o Jennifer Hall, 18 Old Foundry Road, Orwell, Vermont 05760.

Dorothy Duffee
Bridport, Vermont
Dorothy Duffee, 87, passed away Sunday, December 5, 1999 at Addison House Community Care Home in Middlebury. She was born in Brooklyn, New York on May 20, 1912, the daughter of Joseph and Frances (Wichmann) Cantfil.
Mrs. Duffee was a graduate from Hempstead High School, valedictorian at age 16, and was the first student in New York History to receive perfect scores on all Regents' Examinations. She was graduated from Vassar College in 1932, with honors in French and Philosophy and received her Ph.D. in Philosophy from New York University in 1940.
Dorothy was a teacher. She taught at Hempstead High School from 1932-1945, chairing the English Department from 1942-1945. While her sons were growing up, she taught nursery school in Philadelphia, and for many years, taught the senior class in the Sunday school program at the First Unitarian Church of Germantown. In 1964 the family moved to Evanston, Illinois. She taught philosophy in the National College of Education from 1966-1969, winning annual awards for her teaching. Moving to Kansas City, she accepted a position at Johnson County (Kansas) Community College, where she taught religion, ethics and political philosophy. At age 60 she followed her husband to his new position in New York and retired from active teaching.
She is survived by her husband, F. Eugene Duffee, Jr. of Bridport, whom she married on November 23, 1945; her sons, David E. Duffee and Richard Z. Duffee; her brother, August Cantfil of Bethesda, Maryland; her grandchildren Jennifer Buttell of Columbia, South Carolina, Derek Duffee of Denver, Colorado, Tracy Duffee of Albany, New York, her great-grandson, Brennen Patrick Buttell and two nephews, Peter and Thomas McCorkell.
For the last three years of her life, Dorothy was a resident of Addison House in Middlebury, from whose staff she received loving care, for which her family is deeply grateful.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 27, 1999 at 1:30 pm in the Congregational Church in Middlebury. The Reverend David Andrews, Pastor, will officiate.

Arrangements are under the care of Sanderson Funeral Service in Middlebury.

Shawn M. Richards
West Addison, Vermont
Shawn M. Richards, 29, died unexpectedly Wednesday, November 24, 1999 in Addison.
He was born October 6, 1970, the son of Horace and Jody Richards.
Shawn graduated from Vergennes Union High School, Class of "88" and from Champlain College. He was employed as a youth worker at Woodside Juvenile Correctional Center. Other than his beloved family and friends, hunting and fishing are what he lived for.
Shawn's beloved family includes; his wife Kimberly (Guertin) Richards, his precious son Brandon Hunter Richards and baby to be born in May; his parents, Horace and Jody Richards; his sisters, Allison and Kim Richards; uncles Kim Daigneault, John and Jay Hamel, aunts, Bonnie Daigneault, Plumia Gaudette, Valerie Hanson and Tina Regnand; grandparents Homer and Edna Hamel; cousins Nick, Chris, Kayla, Christina, Heather, Kristie, Carrie, and Casey; his extended family; Brian, Keith, Corey, Brent and Darren.
Shawn will be sadly missed, but loved and fondly remembered by all
He was predeceased by his son Shea, and grandparents Martin and Betty Daigneault.
A memorial mass was held on Monday, November 29, 1999 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Vergennes. Interment will be at a later date.
Contributions may be made in Shawn's memory to Smith Barney, Inc., PO Box 1095, Burlington, Vermont 05402 to benefit Richard's Children's Trust Scholarship Fund.
