BEVERLY M. LEVIS

MONTGOMERY CENTER -- Beverly M. Levis, age 69, died Monday afternoon, April 22, 2002, at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans.

She was born May 28, 1932, in Montgomery Center the daughter of the late Carmi and Eva (Hoyt) Levis.

Beverly was a homemaker, she loved to work in the flower garden at the Levis family home on Jay where she lived with her sister and three brothers until recently moving to East Berkshire to be with their caregivers Donna and Frank Meunier, the were a very close and caring family. Beverly was a wonderful lady and had a big heart.

She is survived by her sister, Ida Levis of East Berkshire; three brothers, Ralph Levis of Maple Lane Nursing Home in Barton, Carmi Jr. and Clinton Levis, both of East Berkshire; caregivers Donna and Frank Meunier of East Berkshire; dear friend Wilma McAllister of Richford. She was predeceased by two sisters, Hallie Grant and Helen Levis.

Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 11 o'clock at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Avenue, Enosburg Falls. Interment will follow in the Montgomery Center Cemetery.

Visiting hours will be held Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home in Enosburg Falls.

MARY D. HARPER

KEY COLONY BEACH, Fla. -- Mary D. Harper, wife of H. Chandler Harper of Key Colony Beach, Florida, has died at age 82. She died of complications due to cancer on April 22, in Florida. She was admitted to the hospital a few days earlier and was alert and comfortable until the end.

An award winning and popular artist, Mary painted with oil, watercolor and pastel. Her striking watercolors and scratch boards often portrayed landscapes and portraits from the mid-Atlantic dunes to the bright sub-tropical sun of the Florida Keys to the soft colors of the southwest; they hang in collections across the country. She was a member of the All Arts Council of Franklin County, the Bougainvillea House Gallery, and the Florida Keys Art Guild.

She was active in the community, chaired the "million dollar" Chester County Day Committee of the Chester County Hospital Auxiliary (at a time when a million bucks was real money) during the United States Bi-Centennial years. She was a tolerant housewife and superlative mother-in-law.

Born Mary Elizabeth Dunning on October 1, 1919, in West Chester, Penn., she was the daughter of Wilbur G. and Ethel (Barnard) Dunning. She attended the Westtown School and public high school, matriculated at Swarthmore College, class of '40, and later studied fashion at Spring Garden Institute.

She married H. Chandler Harper on Sept. 7, 1946, in the family garden in Westtown, Penn. They lived in Philadelphia while he attended the Wharton School before returning to Westtown.

Mary and Chan lived in Philadelphia, Minneapolis, Westtown, Tolchester, Maryland, and Key Colony Beach, but they also had incurable wanderlust. They spent 30 years boating and cruising and lived aboard in the Florida Keys for several of those years. Starting in 1948, they toured the country regularly and "moved" most recently to Gallup, New Mexico, for three months to paint and to escape hurricane season.

During World War II, Mary worked at the Pentagon for the Pennsylvania and the Southern Railroads.

Survivors include her husband of Key Colony Beach; one son and his wife, Dick and Anne Harper of Highgate Springs; one brother and his wife, John and Claire Dunning of Lionville, Penn.; a niece and nephew; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several grand nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by both parents and one great-grandson.

A private memorial service and burial at sea will be scheduled at the convenience of the family. Friends may make contributions to their local arts council or Swarthmore College in lieu of flowers.

GREGORY JAMES MUMLEY

SWANTON/ALBURG -- Gregory James Mumley, 41, a native of Alburg and a resident of the Swanton community for almost 20 years died at his York Street residence Saturday afternoon, April 20, 2002.

Greg was born in St. Albans, June 25, 1960, the son of George C. and Leona (Richards) Mumley. He graduated from Bellows Free Academy St. Albans with the Class of 1978, and attended Vermont Technical College in Randolph and Community College in St. Albans. On June 21, 1997, he married the former Lisa Safford who survives him.

Greg will be best remembered for his work in the field of broadcasting, First as program director for WWSR and WLFE Radio in St. Albans and then as music director and on-air personality with WVMT Radio in Burlington, where for many years partnered with Ernie Farrar on The Morning Show. He conducted many important interviews with such personalities as Bob Newhart, Bobby Orr, John LeClair and Governors Howard Dean, Richard Snelling and Madeleine Kunin to name only a few. He was also an avid ham radio operator with the call sign of KG1M.

Greg had a great talent for playing music by ear. At the young age of 10 years he became the organist for St. Amadeus Roman Catholic Church in Alburg Village and played the daily and weekend masses there for many years. He was a lifelong parishioner of St. Amadeus Parish and since living in Swanton belonged to The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. He will also be remembered for the many pictures that he painted. Greg was a "great" Dad who had a tremendous amount of love and pride for his two children.

In addition to his wife Lisa he leaves two children, Nickolas and Jessalyn all of Swanton; his parents, George and Leona Mumley of Alburg; his father-in-law, Jerry Safford of Bolton; Lisa's grandmother Doris Aunchman and her husband, Alfred of Colchester; three brothers, Larry and his wife Yveline of Alburg, Stephen and his wife Joanne of Lebanon, N.H. and Michael and his wife Brenda of Alburg; his sister, Marilyn Mumley of Alburg; his brother-in-law, David Safford of Tucson, Ariz.; and his sister-in-law, Kim Micklus and husband Tony of Milton. Greg also leaves two very special nephews, Christopher and Joshua Micklus of Milton; and his friendly mascot Youpie; as well as many additional nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and very dear friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, April 25, 2002, at 11 a.m. from St. Amadeus Roman Catholic Church, Main Street in Alburg Village. The pastor, Father Maurice U. Boucher will be the celebrant and homilist. Interment will follow in St. Amadeus Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton on Wednesday, April 24, 2002, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Gifts in Greg's memory may be made to a trust fund that is presently being established for his children in care of Lisa Mumley, 29B York Street, Swanton, Vt. 05488.

ARTHUR F. HORR

FAIRFAX -- Arthur F. Horr passed away April 17, 2002, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington from complications during heart surgery. He was born in Woodhaven, N.Y. on Nov. 9, 1916, the son of William and Adeline Horr.

He graduated from Chester, N.Y. High School with honors at the age of 15 and went on to study electrical engineering at New York University, graduating in 1936 with a B. S. in Electrical Engineering. He was noted at NYU for holding offices in numerous honorary societies, councils and committees including election to Tau Beta Pi his junior year and serving as President his senior year.

Throughout his professional career Arthur worked as an electromechanical engineer retiring in Jan. 1978, from Picatinny Arsenal, Dover, N.J. where he was Chief of Utilities. While in N.J. he served on the Vestry of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, as President of the local school board and Kiwanis Club and as Chairman of the Planning Board. After moving to Vermont, he was a lister in Fairfax and served on the Vestry for St. Luke's Episcopal Church in St. Albans. He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed nature and gardening.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn M. Horr; four children, Robert A. Horr and his wife Sharon of Fairfax, William A. Horr and his wife Mary of Tulsa, Ok., Adele E. Hayes and her husband James of Warnerville, N.Y. and Andrew F. Horr of Fairfax; ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ruth Downing of Braedenton, Fla.

A memorial service will be celebrated April 27, 2002, at 2 p.m. in St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Fairfield St., St. Albans, with a private family gathering after the service. There will be no viewing or visiting hours. His ashes will be cared for by the family.

Contributions may be made in his memory to St. Luke's in St. Albans or to Bellows Free Academy, Fairfax for a memorial scholarship in his name. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and especially his family.

SAMUEL C. HARRIS

ST. ALBANS/FAIRFAX -- Samuel Clifford Harris, 72, died Sunday, April 21, 2002, in the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans, with his loving family by his side.

Sam was born in Winooski on June 19, 1929, the son of Samuel E. and Bertha M. (Parent) Harris.

He was a graduate of the Winooski High School, Class of 1948, and attended St. Michael's College in Colchester. Sam proudly served with the U.S. Army Signal Corp, from 1946 to 1948, and with the National Guard from 1951 to 1953. Mr. Harris was a sergeant with the Burlington Police Department from 1953 to 1965.

On Dec. 9, 1950, he married Joyce Anna Sousie in St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Burlington. Sam joined IBM in 1965, where he spent over 27 years. He retired from IBM in 1991 as the Security Manager. Following retirement, he was an instructor for AARP "55 Alive" for several years. He attended St. Luke's Catholic Church in Fairfax and was the Chairman of the Parish Council. He enjoyed watching sports and playing with his favorite buddy Sheba. He and Joyce have made their home in St. Albans for the past seven years moving from Fairfax.

In addition to his wife of over 51 years, Joyce, he is survived by his children Kathleen Benoit and her husband Gary of St. Albans, Samuel W. Harris and his wife Elizabeth of Fremont, N.H., and Mark Harris and his wife Kathleen of Bethel, Conn.; by his grandchildren, Thomas and Krista Cota, Eric, Mysty, Tristan and Christopher Harris; and by his great-grandchildren Kelly, Austin and Dominack, and Marissa. He is also survived by his sister Blanche Zeno of Essex Center, by his sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws Nolia Harris, Ann and Frank Fagga, Robert and Carol Sousie and Edmond Gamlin; and by several nieces, nephews and friends.

He was predeceased by his brother Walter Harris; his sisters Lorraine Brisson and Eleanor Gamlin; and his brother-in-laws Richard and Clifton Sousie and James Zeno.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be co celebrated by Father Joseph Sullivan and Father Frank Conners on Wednesday, April 24, 2002, at 11 a.m. in St. Luke's Catholic Church in Fairfax.

Burial will be in the family lot in St. Stephen's Cemetery in Winooski at the convenience of the family.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, April 23, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Minor Funeral, located at 237 Rt. 7 South, in Milton.

MAURICE A. REYNOLDS

FAIRFIELD -- Maurice A. Reynolds, age 67, died Thursday evening, April 18, 2002, at his home.

He was born April 17, 1935, in Sheldon the son of the late Gordon and Beatrice (Perry) Reynolds.

He was a resident of Fairfield most of his life and was employed by Calendonia Sand & Gravel and Blow & Cote before retiring due to poor health. He was also a school bus driver for the Town of Fairfield. He was U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of the American Legion Post #1 of St. Albans. Maurice had a great passion for working with and training horses.

He is survived by his wife, Traute Reynolds of Fairfield; his daughter Christin Fecteau and her husband Roger of Richford; two grandchildren, Kristal Wilson and her husband David Sr. of Newport, and Erich Ohliger and his wife Paula of Sarasota, Fla.; three great-grandchildren, Kendra & David Wilson of Newport and Ericka Ohliger of Sarasota, Fla.; one brother, Thomas Reynolds of St. Albans; and several nieces and nephews; two aunts, Marion Reynolds of St. Albans and Margaret Perry of Richford; several cousins. Very special friends, Gordon Sweet of Highgate, Elaine Barrows of St. Albans and Larry Bard of Highgate.

A graveside memorial service will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Egypt Cemetery in East Fairfield. There will be no visiting hours.

Spears Funeral Home in Enosburg Falls is in charge of arrangements.

BRIANNA HALEY ALLEN WELLS

HIGHGATE -- Brianna Haley Allen Wells died unexpectedly at birth on April 10, 2002, at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans. Brianna was the daughter of Ashley Allen and Shawn Wells.

She will be missed by all who already loved her. God wanted our little angel to join all the angels in heaven. Brianna, you will always be in all our hearts forever. You will never be forgotten. We love you, little angel.

Besides her parents she is survived by her paternal grandparents, Stephen and Ann Wells of Highgate Center; maternal grandparents, Brenda Allen of Grand Isle, Eric and Sara Allen of Morrisville; great-grandma Carol Allen of Morrisville; great-grandma Lea Martin of Winooski; several uncles and aunts to include, Steve Wells and Melissa Tatro of Burlington, Todd Wells of Highgate Falls, Eric Allen and friend Jamie of Morrisville; Patrick and Chad Sheets of Grand Isle, Justin and Jeremy Allen of Morrisville; and special cousins, Dakota Tatro, Brandon Tatro and Makyla Wells, and Maria Bilodeau; very special friends Nancy Gaboriault, Pat Bates and Lisa Little.

Family graveside services were held on April 12, 2002, at the family cemetery in Morrisville.
