EARLYN EVA DEAN

GRAND ISLE/SINGER ISLAND, Fla. -- Earlyn Eva Dean, a longtime resident of Grand Isle, Vt., and recent resident of Singer Island, Fla. died unexpectedly at her winter home in Florida on April 1, 2002.

She was born in Calgary, Alberta and was the daughter of Kingsley Dean and the late Helen Dean. She graduated from the University of Alberta and from the University of Toronto.

She was a prominent businesswoman, serving as an officer and director of Superior Technical Ceramics in St. Albans for many years, along with Theodore Church, her close friend and former husband. Earlyn also owned and operated Excalibur Laboratories in Burlington with her longtime friend James Whitlock. An accomplished and talented woman, she devoted much of her business life to building two successful companies.

She served on the Board of Directors for the National Association of Manufacturers and attended legislative events in support of her leadership role in the small business manufacturing industry, as well as being a longtime member of the American Alpine Club.

Earlyn was a fascinating woman, known for her incredible intellect, spirit of adventure, love of life, children and the great outdoors. Her favorite days were spent relaxing by Lake Champlain. She always made time for her closest friends and family around the world, and often traveled abroad to places like Nepal and Africa for the adventure of climbing mountains and exploring the worlds wonders. A woman of distinction, she leaves behind a legacy of caring and strength. She was respected and loved by many.

Earlyn is survived by her father, Kingsley Dean; her sister Myrtle Gordon; nieces and nephews; as well as many other friends across the United States and Canada.

A memorial service will be held on May 28, 2002, at St. Luke's Episcopal Parish in St. Albans, at 4 p.m. Following the service family and friends are invited to the home of Theodore Church, 4306 Georgia Shore Road.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Planned Parenthood of Vermont or the Mohonk Preserve of New Palz, New York.

RICHARD ARTHUR RYAN

SWANTON -- Richard Arthur Ryan, 81, a longtime resident of Swanton, died Tuesday morning, May 14, 2002, in the Holiday House Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility in St. Albans Town, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in St. Albans Nov. 3, 1920, the son of the late Arthur "Shaver" and Esther (Richards) Ryan.

He faithfully served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army, assigned to the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign and received the Bronze Star. For many years, Dick was employed by IBM of Essex Junction and in earlier years, worked for the Central Vermont Railroad.

Dick is survived by his wife, Ruth Jane (Riley) Ryan, whom he married on June 27, 1941. He also leaves three daughters, Judith A. Gadue, Barbara J. Day, Kelly R. Connolly and her husband Kevin all of Swanton, son David Ryan and his wife Martha of St. Albans; one brother, Gerald L. Ryan of St. Albans. Also surviving are his grandchildren, James Gadue and his wife Ellen of Montgomery, Craig Day of Swanton, Scott Day of Essex Junction and Taylor Lynn Connolly of Swanton; great-grandchildren, Hannah Day, Arrien and Eva Gadue; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He also was predeceased by a brother Norman Ryan.

Dick enjoyed golfing, bowling, fishing and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

At this time the family would like to thank the staff of Our Lady of the Meadows in Richford, and most recently the staff at the Holiday House for their loving care of Dad and his family.

A Memorial Funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2002, at 3:30 p.m. from the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton. Interment will take place later at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home on Saturday, May 18, 2002, from 2 p.m. until the time of service.

Gifts in Dick's memory may be made to the Franklin -- Grand Isle United Way, Hospital Drive, St. Albans, Vt. 05478.

BLANCHE LUCRESE BEAULIEU

SWANTON -- Mrs. Blanche Lucrese Beaulieu, 94, a longtime resident of this community died early Wednesday morning, May 15, 2002, in Redstone Villa in St. Albans City.

She was born in Ste. Clothide Co. Chateaugay, P.Q. on Aug. 13, 1907, the daughter of the late Marcelin and Philomene (Caille) Thibert. She attended schools in Canada and on, Aug. 28, 1929, she married Albern June, 1967. They operated a dairy farm for many years on Vermont Route 7 in Swanton. She was a longtime parishioner of The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary where she belonged to the Ladies of St. Anne. She was also a member of the Union St. Jean Baptiste Council #37 and was a volunteer for 12 years at the VerDelle Village Extended Care Facility in St. Albans Town.

Mrs. Beaulieu is survived by her seven children and their spouses, Dolores and Renald Breault of New Britain, Conn., Lawrence and Clarice (Loiselle) Beaulieu of Highgate Springs, Georgette and Gilles Bourbeau of St. Albans, Marcel and Dorothy (Mayo) Beaulieu of Swanton, Fernand and JoAnne (Messier) Beaulieu of St. Albans, Denise and Bernard Barewicz of Essex Junction and Jeannette and Serge Lacoste of Cowansville, PQ; and 21 grandchildren, John Breault, Jeannine Miller, Lucy Wild, Michelle Casola, Pauline Bertrand, Helen Maskell, Robert Beaulieu, Carol Cushing, Guy Beaulieu, Diane Forey, Richard, Alan and Mark Bourbeau, Daniel Beaulieu, Angela Wells, David, Michael and Mathew Barewicz, Lisa Brown, Julie Michel and Jennifer Lacoste; plus 40 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law, Suzanne Bechard, and Madeleine Nolin both of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she was predeceased by two sons, Arthur in 1933 and Normand in 1950 and one great grandson, Chad Bertrand in 1989 as well as all her brothers and sisters.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, May 18, 2002, at 10 a.m. from The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 65 Canada Street, Swanton. Father Leonidas Laroche, pastor of St. Mary's parish in St. Albans City will be the celebrant and homilist. Interment will follow in the Beaulieu family lot in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton on Friday, May 17, 2002 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Gifts in Mrs. Beaulieu's memory may be made to The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 65 Canada Street Swanton, Vt. 05488.

EDWARD F. PELKEY SR.

ST. ALBANS/MONROE, N.C. -- Edward F. Pelkey Sr., age 94, passed away peacefully Thursday morning, May 16, 2002, at the home of his daughter Pauline, in Monroe, N.C.

He was born March 2, 1908, in St. Albans. He was employed as a lumberjack for many years at the Troy Blanket Mill in New Hampshire.

He was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Bertha (Sorrell) Pelkey. He was also predeceased by his brother Raymond; two sisters, Margaret and Loretta; and a step-child, Thomas.

He is survived by three sisters, Marion, Dora and Persiss. He also leaves two children, Pauline Millett and her husband Theodore of North Carolina, and Edward F. Pelkey Jr. of New Hampshire; two step-children, Lucille Jarvis, and Louis Messier. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Private funeral services will be held at a later date.

ENOSBURG FALLS -- A graveside service will be held Friday, May 17, at 3 p.m. at East Franklin Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to the Spears Funeral Home, Enosburg Falls.

ELVA I. MASKELL

ALBURG -- Elva I Maskell, 86, a lifelong resident of Alburg died early Sunday morning, May 12, 2002, with her loving family at her side in the Northwestern Medical Center, St. Albans.

Elva was born in Alburg, May 15, 1915. She was the daughter of the late Issac and Ruth (James) Bohannon. She attended school in Alburg Springs and married Peter Fortune, who predeceased her. Elva later married Ernest Maskell, who predeceased her in 1976.

Elva worked several different types of jobs during her work career. She was associated with Thermal Wire Co, was a cook for many years with the Blarney Stone Restaurant and did housecleaning for local people. Elva loved working and being with people. She enjoyed fishing, playing cards and always managed to get many laughs from her friends. Elva was a very loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Elva was predeceased by a sister, Lydia (Teeny) Gaumache; four brothers, Phillip, Willard (Bill), Elwin (Buster), Delbert Bohannon; son-in-law, Raymond Cross; and grandson, Robert Cross.

Elva is survived by her children, Fred Fortune and his wife Jeannette of St. Albans, Mildred Stevenson and her husband Lynn of Clarenceville, Quebec, Marrietta Curfman of Nebraska, Eunice Cross of St. Albans, Wyman Maskell of Alburg, Issac (Jum) Maskell and his wife Cheryl of New York, Carl Maskell of Oklahoma; one brother, Howard Bohannon of St. Albans; two sisters, Grace Collins and her husband Earl and Bernice Bohannon of Alburg; also several sister-in-laws, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2002, at 11 a.m. at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave. Swanton. The Reverend Dr. John C. Kehoe, pastor of the Union Bible Church in Alburg will officiate. Family and friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home on Wednesday, May 15, 2002, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Interment will follow in the Maskell family lot in Riverside Cemetery, Swanton.

Gifts in Elva's memory may be made to the Alburg Vol. Fire Dept. and Rescue, Inc., P.O. Box 223, Alburg, Vt. 05440.

PATRICIA FULLER ALOIA

SANTA ROSA, Calif. -- Patricia Fuller Aloia passed away peacefully May 11, 2002, in Santa Rosa, Calif. at the age of 88. She was born on Oct. 5, 1913, in Birmingham, Ala. She was director of medical records at the Veteran's Administration Hospital and University of Alabama Medical Center in Birmingham, and later at North Carolina Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill, N.C. and Good Hope Hospital in Erwin. She was a past president of the National Medical Record Library Association and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a lover of flowers, birds, travel, books, music and people. She appreciated her friends, her family and her surroundings. We were all blessed by her generous nature.

She leaves behind her son and his family, Richard T. and Carolyn Aloia, and grandsons John and James Aloia of Santa Rosa, Calif.; and her daughter Patricia Hendrickson of Enosburg Falls and grandsons Victor Hendrickson of New York, N.Y. and Burleigh Hendrickson of Chapel Hill, NC. She also leaves a nephew and his family, David and Gail Fuller of Oak Hill, AL and great niece Jeanne Fuller of New Orleans, La. She leaves behind many wonderful friends in the Dunn, N.C. area.

A family memorial service will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, College Park, Ga. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the American Heart Association.

GEORGE "BUD" PYER

ST. ALBANS -- Mr. George "Bud" Pyer, age 80, died Saturday morning, May 12, 2002, in the Northwestern Medical Center following a brief illness. He was born Feb. 20, 1922, son of the late Sheldon and Blanche (Bressett) Pyer in St. Albans.

Bud entered military service with the U.S. Army after high school and served his country in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. Upon return he accepted a position with the Central Vermont Railway and retired after 36 years of service as a yard master.

Bud was a communicant of St. Mary's Church and a member of the Central Vermont Veterans Association, the American Legion Post 1, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 758 and the Harley Davidson Owners Motorcycle Group. He enjoyed riding with the club and especially joining his son Michael on their trips.

Bud will always be remembered as sharing his opinion with his many friends, daily, in My Dad's Diner (formerly The Bread Basket).

Aug. 15, 1948, he married Kathleen Clark, R.N. Together they raised their four children. Kathleen died April 29, 1994.

Bud is survived by his three children, Robert and his wife Judy Pyer of Newport, N.C., James Pyer of St. Albans, Martha and her husband David Supernault of Sheldon; five grandchildren, Eric and James Pyer, Aaron Pyer, Leigh and David Supernault; special great-granddaughter Malia Pyer; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his son Michael Pyer on July 2, 1999; and his sister Eleanor Deojay on Aug. 23, 1998.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church. Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday. Interment will be in the Pyer family lot in Holy Cross Cemetery. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider t;he St. Albans Steelers Youth Football Team, c/o Robert Cioffi Jr., 66 South Main St., St. Albans, Vt. 05478 Arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.
