KENNETH W. LONGEY

ENOSBURG FALLS -- Kenneth W. Longey, age 77, husband of Lorraine (Farnham) Longey, died Tuesday, May 7, at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans.

He was born May 1, 1925, in Berkshire, the son of the late William and May (Greenia) Longey.

Kenneth was a farmer all his life and repaired engines in his retirement. He loved working with wood and also enjoyed hunting, fishing and visiting with neighbors. On Oct. 12, 1966, he married Lorraine (Farnham) Longey of Enosburg Falls.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two step-sons and their wives, Wesley and Diane Flood of Swanton, and Gary and Mary Flood of Enosburg Falls; five step-grandchildren, Crystal, Michael, Amber, Heather and Mark; one great-grandchild, Elizabeth; a sister-in-law, Lucille (Farnham) Duffy and her husband Terrance of Spring Hills, Fla. He was predeceased by a step-grandson Scott Allen Flood in 1973.

A graveside memorial service will be held Friday, May 10, 2002, at 11 o'clock at St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Enosburg Falls with Rev. Gerard Leclerc officiating. There will be no calling hours.

For those who wish, contributions in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, Vermont Division, 13 Loomis St., Montpelier, Vt. 05602, or to the American Heart Association, Vermont Affiliate, P.O. Box 485, Williston, Vt. 05495.

Spears Funeral Home in Enosburg Falls is in charge of arrangements.

DOROTHY M. (QUIMETTE) BOURGEOIS

SWANTON/ST. ALBANS -- Dorothy M. Bourgeois, 96, a life long resident of Swanton died peacefully surrounded by her family early Sunday morning, May 5, 2002 at the Holiday House in St. Albans Town.

Dorothy was born in Swanton on Sept. 12, 1905, the daughter of the late Levi and Josephine (Hope) Quimette. She attended Swanton schools and on Nov. 25, 1924 married Henry Bourgeois. She was a devoted mother and homemaker and worked for many years in the Hot Lunch Program at Swanton Central School. Dorothy was a life long member of the Church of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Swanton.

Dorothy leaves two daughters, Lucille Fortuna of Burlington, Elaine L'Esperance and her husband, Francis, of Swanton. She also leaves eight grandchildren, Gail Cote, Patricia and Peter Koledo, David Fortuna, Cheryle and Jeffrey Jimmo, Lisa and Richard Gorton, Stephen L'Esperance, Cara and Gary Griswold, Danny and Carla L'Esperance; and eight great-grandchildren.

Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, Henry; also six brothers, and five sisters.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, May 8, 2002, at 7:30 p.m. at the Church of Nativity in Swanton. Interment will be at a later date at the convenience of the family in St. Mary's Cemetery.

DOROTHY MAE "BOVAT" KING

FAIRFAX -- Dorothy M. King, 95, formerly of Maple Street in Fairfax, died Friday afternoon, May 3, 2002, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility in Burlington.

Mrs. King was born Jan. 4, 1907, in Georgia the daughter of Louis and Nettie Root Bovat. She was a graduate of Brigham Academy in Bakersfield with the Class of 1925. She then attended and graduated from the Johnson Normal School, which is now Johnson State College in Johnson.

On June 17, 1942, she married Howard S. "Babe" King in St. Patrick's Church in Fairfield. Mr. King predeceased her on July 6, 1978.

She taught school for 47 years in three different towns. The last 19 teaching years were at Bellows Free Academy, Fairfax, retiring in 1972. While at BFA she served as a chairman for the BFA Elementary Design for Education, as required by the State of Vermont. She served two years as secretary of the local Franklin-Chittenden West District Association until it disbanded and each formed its own association. She was a life member of the Vermont Retired Teacher's Association and an active member in the Franklin Lamoille Retired Teacher's Association.

Always active in organizing, she helped form and later became vice president of the Franklin County Youth Organization during World War II. However, this was short-lived due to gas rationing requirements used as conservation measures during the war. A charter member of Chester A. Arthur Grange (now devolved) she served as secretary and lecturer and later held the office of Pamona in State Grange.

Dorothy was a 4-H leader for eight years and served three years as councilor for Girl's State in Montpelier. As a member of St. Luke's Parish in Fairfax she taught Catechism for many years. She served her community by participating on the six person Fairfax Bicentennial Committee that published the Fairfax Town history book.

She served on the Educational Advisory Board at the Northwest State Correctional Center in St. Albans and was a retired member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion Post 1. She was also a former member of the Catholic Golden Age Club and past president of the Friendly Neighbor's Senior Citizens Group in Fairfax.

Dorothy also belonged to the Arrowhead Senior Citizens in Milton as well as the Champlain Valley Agency on the Aging, Milton Community Meals program.

Mrs. King is survived by her son, Dean King and his wife Susan of Milton; and by her granddaughters, Jessica and Amanda King. She was predeceased by her sisters, Myrtle Longe, Gertrude Corey and Irene Demmings; as well as her brothers, Richard, Wilfred, Earl, Leo and Donald Bovat.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated today, May 6, 2002, at 10 a.m. in St. Luke's Catholic Church in Fairfax, with burial following in St. Luke's Cemetery.

For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to the Champlain Valley Agency on the Aging, Milton Community Meals Program, P.O. Box 158, Winooski, Vt. 05404-9958, or to the Fairfax Friendly Neighbors Senior Citizens Group in care of Ed Bessette, Treasurer, 2339 Main Street, Fairfax, Vt. 05454.

Visiting hours were held on Sunday evening, May 5, 2002, from 6-9 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home, Rout 7, Milton.

MARTHA M. STURGEON

ST. ALBANS -- Mrs. Martha M. Sturgeon, age 74, died Thursday morning, Feb. 21, 2002, in Heartland Nursing Home, Hanahan, S.C., where she had been a resident since December, following a lengthy decline in her health.

Martha was born in St. Albans Jan. 22, 1928, the daughter of the late Allen and Blanche (Jacques) Gagnon. She was predeceased by her husband, Elton Sturgeon.

Martha was a salesclerk for the W. E.. Aubuchon Hardware Store in St. Albans for the 18 years prior to her retirement in 1988. She was a communicant of Holy Angels Church.

Martha's survivors include her brother, Gerald and his wife Madeline Gonyeau, with whom she had resided for the past several years, of Monks Corner, S.C.; sister-in-law Elizabeth Sturgeon of Franklin; nieces and nephews, Simone and Donald Bland, Marilyn and Kermit Barney, Gary and Theresa Sturgeon; several grand nieces and grand nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, May 8, 2002, in Holy Angels Church. Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., St. Albans, from 7 to 9 Tuesday evening. Interment will be in the Sturgeon family lot in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.

RUTH G. RASHAW

EUSTIS, Fla./ST. ALBANS - Ruth G. Rashaw, 90, who resided in Eustis, Fla. for the past 38 years, passed away March 6, 2002, leaving behind all of her loved ones.

She was the daughter of the late William Henry Greene and Gyneth Sayles Greene.

Ruth's husband, John, predeceased her.

Survivors include one son, William Rashaw of West Eustis, Fla.; a grandson, Tim Rashaw and great-granddaughter, Maggie Rashaw, both of Eustis; three brothers, Robert Greene of Zephyrhills, Fla, Stanley Greene of Richford, Vt., Arthur Greene, of Leesburg, Fla.; two sisters, Marion Waters of Grafton, Mass. and Barbara Rollo, of Highgate Center, Vt.

Ruth had worked as a nurse.

She and her beloved husband, John, will be laid to rest together at Mount Calvary Cemetery in St. Albans at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2002.

A brief graveside service will be held.

ALFRED JOSEPH MARTIN

SWANTON -- Alfred Joseph Martin, 85, a resident of 76 Grand Ave. in Swanton Village for 58 years died Monday evening, April 29, 2002, in the Holiday House Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility in St. Albans Town.

Born in Hartford, Conn., Jan. 24, 1917, he was the son of the late George and Bessie (Campbell) Martin. He attended schools in Highgate and on May 24, 1938, married the former Sybil Cook who survives him.

For nearly 40 years Alfred was associated as foreman for Swanton Limeworks and more recently worked as a toll person for the Vermont Bridge Commission at the Rouses Point Bridge.

Alfred was a longtime devoted and faithful member of the Swanton Memorial United Methodist Church and for many years served the church as custodian and usher.

In addition to his wife, Sybil, of Swanton Alfred leaves three daughters and their husbands, Adell and Stephen Sumner of Ormond Beach, Fla., Nancy and Ken Raine of Berwick, Maine and Christine and James Peyrat of Highgate Center; and his brother, Charles Martin and his wife, Shelley, of Swanton. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Pamela Langevin, Todd Cooke, Greg Raine, Shawn Raine, Sara Trayah, Rebecca Fagga and Nicole Peyrat; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Three brothers, George Jr., Lawrence and Robert Martin and a sister, Edith Lamarche, predeceased him.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 3, 2002, at 2 p.m. from the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton. The Reverend Marcheta Townsend, pastor of the Highgate United Methodist Church will officiate.

Interment will follow in the Martin family lot in Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home on Thursday, May 2, 2002, fro 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Gifts in Alfred's memory may be made to the charity of one's choice.

JUDITH ANN BURZAK NORTH

MILTON -- Judith Ann Burzak North, 40, of McMullen Road, died unexpectedly Sunday, April 28, 2002, in Burlington.

Judy was born Aug. 13, 1961, in Philadelphia, Pa., the daughter of Alfred and Anna Koebert Burzak. She graduated from high school in Fayetteville, W. Va. and attended and graduated from Champlain College in 1988, with an associate in science degree.

On April 5, 2001, she entered into Civil Union with her partner Annette M. North in Huntington and together they lived in Milton. Judy loved to go camping at Hampton Beach, N.H. and also enjoyed deep sea fishing as well as canoeing and bike riding.

She was employed as a security officer for a short while. She loved her two little dogs, Joshua and Sasha. The most recent addition to her life was the birth of her great nephew, "Little Bird" Emil Robert North of Westford, who will also be claimed as Annette and Judy's little boy. Emil will miss you and your superior friends that you have met in the past year of our Civil Union together.

Judy is survived by her spouse, Annette North, of Milton; her mother Anna Burzak of Philadelphia, Pa.; and her mother-in-law Doris North of Milton. She leaves her brother, Michael R. Burzak and his wife, Patricia, of Philadelphia, Pa.; her sister, Georgeann Efaw of Pennsylvania; her brother-in-law, Emil North and his close friend Karen Root of Milton; her sister-in-laws Grace Williams of St. Albans and Jeannine Francis and her husband Richard of Hinesburg; her aunt, Judith Ross of Leesburg, Fla.; her nieces Tricia Burzak and Shanon LaVerde; and great-niece Amanda.

She was predeceased by her father, Alfred Burzak, in 1977; her brother Raymond Alfred Burzak in 1956; and Annette's father, Robert North, in 2001.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2002, at 11 a.m. in the Minor Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Milton Village Cemetery.

Visiting hours will be held Thursday from 9 a.m. until the hour of the funeral in the Minor Funeral Home, Route 7, Milton.
