THELMA R. BARBER

ST. ALBANS -- Mrs. Thelma Ruth Barber, age 89, died Saturday afternoon, June 15, 2002, in the Northwestern Medical Center, with her loving family at her bedside.

She was born in St. Albans Aug. 9, 1912, daughter of the late Charles and Ruth (McCarty) Bray. She graduated from Holy Angels School and entered the convent, in Montreal, P.Q., where she studied for the next three years.

Following her return to St. Albans she married Donald Barber on Oct. 6, 1940. She spent her entire life caring for others. She was a care giver for children with several families around St. Albans and had a day care at home for children. She was very active with St. Mary's Church and was among the first to receive the blessings to become a Eucharistic Minister. She and her husband brought the Holy Eucharist to many shut-in parishioners.

Besides her husband Donald, of almost 62 years, she is survived by her daughter Mary and her husband Theodore Yandow of St. Albans; son Michael and his wife Patricia Barber of Cornish, N.H.; four grandchildren, Amy Bourgeois, Sara Clark, James Barber and Thomas Barber; seven great-grandchildren; and three nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her sister Pearl Maurer and brother James Bray, a niece and a nephew.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 11 a.m. in St. Mary's Church. Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday. Interment will follow the Mass in the Barber family lot in Holy Cross Cemetery. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Masses or memorials to the Northwestern Medical Center, P.O. Box 1370, St. Albans, Vt. 05478.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.

RITA M. CYR

ST. ALBANS -- Mrs. Rita Marie Cyr, age 78, died Saturday evening, June 15, 2002, at her home with her loving family at her bedside.

She was born in West Shefford, Quebec, Canada, March 10, 1924, daughter of the late Charles Eugene and Anna (Beaulieu) Lavoie. She married Rene Cyr May 27, 1944.

She assisted her husband in the daily dairy farm chores and was employed at Fonda Container Corp. for over 25 years. Later, she designed and delivered floral arrangements for Larry's Flower Shop and was a home care giver in private homes.

She was a communicant of Holy Angels Church and a member of the Ladies of St. Anne as well as the United Paperworkers Union, Local 345.

Rita entered the Vermont Maple Festival contests with her cooking and crafts and took several prizes for her skills. She sold and delivered strawberries and raspberries during their seasons, for several years. She loved roses, arts and crafts, fishing and hunting.

Besides her husband, Rene, of over 58 years, she is survived by her eight children and their spouses, Diane Bilodeau-Rideout and Pat Rideout of Swanton, Doris and Richard Archambault of Sheldon, Carol and Thor Bruyette of St. Albans, Cathy Cyr-Wolfe of St. Albans, Lucille and Peter Beauregard of Watsonville, Calif., David and Tammy Cyr of St. Albans, Danny Cyr and Susan Pellisier of Swanton and Robert Cyr of Fairfax.

She especially loved her 15 grandchildren, Mike Archambault, Linda McNall, Terry Hydon, Stephen Archambault, Kevin Archambault, Brian Bilodeau, Brenda Lavo, Taylor Wolfe, Tracy Aguilar, Ashely Beauregard, Amy Woods, Ryan Cyr, Eric Cyr, Jason Cyr and Sarah Cyr; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by six sisters, Germaine Desriuisseaux of North Oxbridge, Mass., Annette Deragon of Cowansville, Quebec, Gertrude Lavoie of Swanton, Joan Gagner of Enosburg, Pauline and her husband Armand Cyr of Englewood, Fla., Laurance and her husband Larry Barkyoumb of Englewood, Fla.; two brothers, , Honore Lavoie of Sutton, Mass., Benoit Lavoie of North Oxbridge, Mass.; sisters-in-law Beatrice Lavoie of Enfield, Conn., Margaret Lavoie of Grafton, Mass., Eleanor Lavoie of Whitingsville, Mass., Simone Lavoie of Swanton, Lauretta Perron of Essex; brothers-in-law Raymond Cyr of Enfield, Conn., Armand and his wife Pauline Cyr of Englewood, Fla., Roland and his wife Arline Cyr of St. Albans, Oscar and his wife Marie Cyr of South Carolina, Pearl Cyr of Swanton and Guy Lamothe of Sheldon; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides her parents she was predeceased by her daughter Paula Cyr; sisters Maria Bousquet, Albertine Brouillard, Eugenia Garrow, Catherine Lavoie; and brothers Dominique Lavoie, Arthur Lavoie and Charles Lavoie, Jr.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Holy Angels Church. Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Interment will be in the Cyr family lot in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be made in Masses or to the Franklin County Home Health Agency, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, Vt. 05478.

BARBARA LaFRANCE ROWE

MILTON -- Barbara LaFrance Rowe, age 75, beloved wife and mother, whose selfless devotion was apparent even on the final days of her life, died following a short illness on Thursday, June 13, 20025, surrounded by her loving family.

She is survived by her husband Joseph; her two daughters, Mary Magnuson and Judy Paxman; her sons-in-law Ronald Magnuson and Adam Paxman; one grandchild Alexandria Paxman; her sisters Dorothy Vineyard, Clarice Pierce, Sylvia Aldrich Purinton; and predeceased by her siblings Arthur LaFrance, Jr. and Colleen Kingman.

A private service will be held for the immediate family. Please, no cards, gifts or flowers.

ROBERT "ROBBIE" L. POLLANDER

JEFFERSONVILLE - Robert "Robbie" Lee Pollander, age 70, a lifelong resident of Jeffersonville, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, June 12, 2002, at Copley Hospital in Morrisville.

He was born in Jeffersonville, July 26, 1931, son of the late Lawrence R. and Bertha (Reynolds) Pollander. He enlisted in the Navy and served his country proudly as a veteran in the Korean War.

He married the former Elizabeth "Betty" Werbiskis on July 26, 1986 in Fletcher. He was a member of the VFW Post 9653 of Morrisville, American Legion Post 35 of Cambridge, and Fraternal Order of Eagles, Green Mountain Aire 3210 of Jeffersonville.

He and his wife, Betty, owned and operated Robbie's Wildlife Refuge in Jeffersonville. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren as well as all types of people and will be sadly missed by the many patrons of his business whom he had embraced as extended family.

He was a great story-teller, accenting his tales with a combination of quick wit and a taste of sensible Vermont humor, mesmerizing his listeners, young and old alike. He enjoyed Vermont's great outdoors, fishing "wherever there was water" and could be found many a deer season hunting the hills and mountains that surround and cradle Jeffersonville in search of the elusive whitetail. He will be greatly missed by all of those who had the distinct pleasure to know and love him.

He is survived by his loving wife, Betty Pollander of Jeffersonville; one son, Gary Pollander and his wife, Janet, and their two children, Brianne and Eric, all of Massachusetts; two daughters, Debbie Theodore and her husband, Barry, and their three children, Kristie, B.G. and Heather, all of Massachusetts, Sandra LaBoissiere and her husband, David, and their two children, Amy and Ryan, all of Maine; one brother, Irving Pollander of Jeffersonville; a nephew, Barry Pollander and his wife, Linda, of Jeffersonville; two nieces, Leisa Pollander and her husband, Edward Conrad, of Jeffersonville; Lori Towns and her husband, Randy, of Morrisville; several cousins and his two loyal companions, Kattie and Max.

Visiting hours were held at the Hayes-Rich Funeral Home on Sunday, June 16, 2002, from 2 to 5 p.m. Funeral services were to be held today, Monday, June 17, 2002 at 1 p.m. at the Second Congregational Church in Jeffersonville with Reverend Peggy Tooker officiating. Interment was to follow in the family lot in Jeffersonville Village Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in Robbie's memory to Cambridge Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 431, Jeffersonville, Vt., 05464.

ELIZABETH MAE 'BETTY' CONGER

HIGHGATE SPRINGS -- Elizabeth Mae 'Betty' Conger, 67, a resident of the Country Club Road in Highgate Springs died early Wednesday morning, June 12, 2002, at home surrounded by her dedicated and loving family.

Betty was born in Georgia, June 7, 1935, the daughter of the late Allen and Anne (Archer) Glover. She attended schools in the Georgia area and on June 28, 1958, married William Harold Conger, Sr. who predeceased her, Aug. 1, 2000. A son, Stephen Conger on Nov. 26, 1988, also predeceased her.

For 35 years Betty and her husband made their home in the Sterling, Conn. area returning to Vermont in 1987.

Betty leaves her five children and their spouses, Joseph Shore, Elbert Shore and William Harold Conger Jr. all of Connecticut, Lori-Ann and Peter Arzenati of Coventry, Conn. and Karen-Lynn and John Ryan of Swanton; her stepmother, Alberta Glover of St. Albans; three sisters, Evelyn Hawkins of Nevada, Cindy Cross of St. Albans, and Sandy Larson and husband Lane of Maryland; two brothers, Earl Glover and wife Marion of Florida and Allen Glover of St. Albans; six very special grandchildren, Jillian Marie Knox, Carl William Shanholtzer, Brittni Angela Conger and Siera Dayne Arzenati, Amber Christina Shore, Christopher Ryan Shore; and several great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a special granddaughter to be (Carl's fiance) Jessica Dufresne. She also leaves her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ronnie and Cheryl Conger of Highgate Springs and Robert Conger of Highgate as well as a very special brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jean and Allen Conger of Sheldon; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A funeral service celebrating Betty's life will be held Saturday, June 15, 2002, at 3 p.m. from the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton. The Reverend Marcheta Townsend, pastor of the Highgate United Methodist Church will officiate. Interment will take place later in the Conger family lot in Hope Cemetery in Georgia. Friends may call at Kidder Memorial Home on Saturday afternoon from 1 p.m. until the hour of the funeral.

Gifts in Betty's memory may be made to, Franklin County Home Health Agency-Hospice Program, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, Vt., 05478.

MARGARET C. BURNOR

FAIRFIELD -- Margaret C. Burnor left this world on the morning of June 12, 2002, surrounded by her loving family. She was born Jan. 27, 1916, in Montgomery the daughter of the late Ernest and Iva (Lumbra) Touchette.

Among her many achievements she proudly raised a family of six children. She married her life partner, Isadore Alvin Burnor on July 5, 1936, and together they enjoyed over 61 years together. Margaret was known for her cooking, her mysterious smile, and arms that when they hugged you they could take all your troubles away.

Margaret is survived by her adoring children, Beverly Gervia of South Burlington, David and Audrey Burnor of Fairfield, Barry and Joan Burnor of Alburg, Joanne Barup of South Burlington, and Robert "Bobby" and Ann Burnor of Waterville.

Margaret was greeted on her journey by her son Phillip Burnor, as well as her husband Isadore "Izzy, " who crossed before her in December of 1997.

She also leaves behind three sisters, Freda Burnor of Bakersfield, Mary Cole of Johnson, and Myrtle Casali of Milford, Mass., as well as 15 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. The loving arms of welcome of those who passed before her are her sister, Phyllis Peluso and her brothers Robert, Eugene, Francis and Charles Touchette.

Margaret has asked that we celebrate her life in a service to be held at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in East Fairfield on Saturday morning at 11 with Reverend Vincent Onunkwo celebrating the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Bakersfield.

Visiting hours will be held Friday from 4-7 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a call to those you love.

The family wishes to express its heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at Haven Health Center in St. Albans where Margaret spent her last few months.

BERNICE (HOWARD) WILLIAMS BORNING

HYANNIS, Mass. -- Bernice (Howard) Williams Borning, 83, died Friday, June 7, 2002, at her residence. She was the wife of the late Luvern L. Borning, who died in March and Delmar Williams, who died in 1988.

Born in Peavine, Tenn., she lived for several years in Enosburg Falls, Vt., and most of her life in Cohasset, Mass., moving to Cape Cod in 1988. She enjoyed golf, walking and knitting.

Survivors include her two daughters, Carlie Silvia of Port Charlotte, Fla., Sue Eldridge of Centerville, Mass.; a step-son, Robert Borning of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; two sisters in Jamestown, Tenn.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A private memorial service will be held at Woodside Cemetery, Cohasset, Mass. at the convenience of the family.
