RICHARD C. LAMB

ST. ALBANS/ELLENTON, Fla. -- Mr. Richard C. "Smokey" Lamb, age 85, died Tuesday morning, May 26, 2002, in the Kindred Hospital in St. Petersburg, Fla., following a brief illness.

He was born in St. Albans Jan. 9, 1917, son of the late Charles and Maud (Edwards) Lamb. From 1933 to 1936, he served in the Vermont National Guard. During World War II Richard served in the U.S. Navy for over seven years. He served in the World's Fair Detachment and in 1939, was a member of the Honor Guard for the King and Queen of England. He served in the special services squadron aboard the U.S.S. Badger and later transferred to the U.S.S. Dickenson as a sonar operator for sound gear of subs.

His tours in the Navy brought him to Japan, Russia, San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Aruba plus many U.S. Shipyard locations. In 1945, he returned to his home and was a St. Albans City Firefighter for over 45 years. He was a packaging foreman at Fonda Container Corp. for 22 years. He served St. Albans City as Alderman from Ward 6 for a three-year term.

Richard was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, the American Legion, Green Mountain Post 1, the United Paperworkers Union and the Federation of Mobil Home Owners of Florida. Richard spent many hours fishing and time at his camp on the Georgia Shore.

He married Emma Butler Forant on Feb. 12, 1942. She died Dec. 22, 1975. On Oct. 15, 1976, Dick married Theresa Chabonneau Shannon. She died June 26, 2000.

He is survived by several cousins, including Mary Edwards Kowalski of Stonington, Conn.; and dear friends Bill and Carol Johnson of Brattleboro; Theresa's son William and his wife Audrey Shannon of Wilmington, N.C.; their children Megan and her husband Bryan O'Connell and Ned Shannon.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 4, 2002, at 10 a.m. in the Brady & Levesque Chapel. Friends may call at the funeral home, 86 South Main St., from 9 a.m. until the service time Tuesday morning. Interment will be in the Lamb family lot in Greenwood Cemetery.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.

DOROTHY M. SQUIRES

ST. ALBANS -- Miss Dorothy M. Squires, 96, a resident of this area since 1966, passed away on Tuesday July 30, 2002, at Haven Health Center on the Sheldon Road. She was born in Enosburg on Dec. 17, 1905, the daughter of the late Henry and Ida (Longey) Squires.

Dorothy was a Licensed Practical Nurse and was employed in Stamford, Conn. from 1943 to 1966, when she returned to Vermont. She then was employed at the St. Albans Hospital, Holiday House Nursing Home, and Redstone Villa Nursing Home. She was a former resident of Four Winds on North Elm Street, the King's Daughters Home on Rugg Street, and Brownway Residence in Enosburg.

There are no known family survivors. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Linnie Saxby.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Heald Funeral Chapel. The Reverend Oren Lane will officiate. There will be no visitation prior to the funeral. Interment will be in the family lot at North Cambridge Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 11 Church Street, St. Albans, Vt. 05478.

Arrangements are by the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main Street.

EARL L. BURNS

MONTGOMERY -- Earl L. Burns, age 80, died Friday morning, July 26, 2002, at the White River Junction Veteran's Administration Hospital.

He was born July 4, 1922, in Bristol, the son of the late Asa Edison and Jane Ann (Lawrence) Burns.

He was a resident of Montgomery for the past 12 years and a former resident of Bristol and Ferrisburg from 1922 to 1931, and then lived on the family farm in Charlotte from 1931 to 1942, when he entered the Navy during World War II. He boarded the USS Anthony until his honorable discharge Dec. 15, 1945. He then returned to the family farm and married Mary (Barnes) Burns in 1947. They continued dairy farming until building the Old Lantern Restaurant and Campgrounds which Earl and Mary operated until their retirement in August of 2000. He was a member of the American Legion Post 42 of Enosburg Falls.

He is survived by a son and his wife, Richard and Barbara Burns of Montgomery Center; two daughters, Linda Blake and her husband Gary of Georgia, and Doris Wing of South Burlington; seven grandchildren; two brothers, Harold and Lee Burns of Oklahoma; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Burns, Jan. 5, 2002; and one brother, Guy Burns.

Funeral services will be held today (Monday) in the afternoon at 3 at St. Isidore's Catholic Church in Montgomery Center with Reverend Frank Eksterowicz celebrating the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. Isidores Cemetery.

Visiting hours were held Sunday from 1-4 at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls.

AUDREY ROSE (YOUNG) MONTAGUE

BAKERSFIELD -- Audrey Rose (Young) Montague, age 92, oldest resident of Bakersfield, joined her beloved Rupert in the Garden of Heaven Sunday morning, July 28, 2002, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born Sept. 25, 1909, in Bakersfield, the daughter of the late George Lewis and Myrtie (Burt) Young.

She was a life long resident of Bakersfield and was a very active member of Bakersfield Congregational Church, Bakersfield Historical Society and the Maple Grove Cemetery Committee for several years. She was a 1926 graduate of Brigham Academy and a 1928 graduate of Johnson Normal School. Her teaching career started in Bakersfield and Waterville from 1927-28, Isle La Motte from 1930-31, Bakersfield from 1931-1956, and Enosburg from 1956 until her retirement in 1971. She was a member of the former Hilltop Grange in Bakersfield and the Pamona Grange where she served as Lecturer.

Audrey and Rupert were married in 1928 and enjoyed 70 years of marriage before he passed on March 25, 1999. They were also the hosts of the Village Bed & Breakfast for 22 years.

She is survived by her four children and their spouses, James and Chris Montague of Anchorage, Alaska, Penny and Jack Goss, Garry and Virginia Montague and Linda McCall, all of Bakersfield.

She will be fondly remembered by her 13 grandchildren and their spouses, David Montague, Donna and Ted Cahalane, Jill and Rudy Zarzosa, and Jeffrey and Melissa Montague, Tom and Kelly Goss, Jack and Terri Goss, Lisa and Steve Maynard, Heather and Robert Tanner, Tim and Rhonda Goss, and Danny and Kim Goss, Shaun and Jenni Montague, Robin and Steve Yates, Megan and Curt Swan; 22 great-grandchildren, Brandon, Jeremiah, Danielle, Israel, Joshua, Christopher, Dusti, Matthew, Whitney, Jared, Adam, Jordan, Erin, Amanda, Devon, Amy, Katie, Caryssa, Issac, Jenyssa, Kamryn and Alayna, for her gingersnaps and popcorn balls and always knowing just the right thing to say and encouragement to offer; several nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law, Mary Pilon of Morrisville. Besides her husband she was predeceased by a brother, Hoyt Young; three sisters, Georgia Raymo, Doris Derry and Evelyn Young.

A celebration of Audrey's life will take place at the Village Green in Bakersfield (weather permitting) on Wednesday afternoon at 1, with Pastors Lyle Willey and Marshall True officiating. In case of inclement weather, the service will be moved to the Bakersfield Congregational Church. Interment will follow in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Bakersfield.

Audrey's special grace and giving nature will be missed more than words can say. She was a breath of fresh air, a ray of sunshine and our peacemaker. The family would like to invite relatives and friends to join them Tuesday evening from 6-9 at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls, to share memories and reminisce.

FREDERICK C. GERAW

ENOSBURG FALLS -- Frederick C. Geraw, age 78, died unexpectedly at his home July 26, 2002.

He was born in Montgomery March 2, 1924, and lived in Enosburg Falls most of his life. He worked as a mechanic at Paquettes Garage and retired from Boise Cascade in Sheldon Springs after working there for 32 years. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and the Enosburg Lions Club. Fred always loved a good game of cards.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Janice (Fleury) Geraw of Enosburg Falls; two sons, Gary Geraw and his wife Sue of East Franklin and Chris Geraw of Enosburg Falls. He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, Forrest, Amanda and Krista Geraw, Nicole, Lacey and Cole Rees and Ruby. Two brothers, Edward Billows and Arlin Billows and his wife Betty all of St. Albans. He was predeceased by his mother, Frances Geraw; and on Nov. 26, 2001, a sister, Shirley French.

A memorial service was held today, July 29, 2002, at 11 o'clock at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Reverend Gerard Leclerc celebrating the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family. There were no visiting hours.

DOROTHEA DOUGLASS BABCOCK

WHITE RIVER JCT./ST. ALBANS BAY -- Dorothea Douglass Babcock, 95, passed away on July 25, 2002, in the Northwestern Medical Center following a short illness. She was born in Canandaigua, N.Y. on Aug. 22, 1906, the daughter of Samuel M. and Rowena R. (Jones) Douglass.

Dorothea was a music teacher in the Rutland School system for many years and was a member of the Bach Study Group which met weekly for 18 years working on the music of J .S. Bach. For many years she delivered Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed reading the works of Patrick O'Brien and was a member of the Norwich Congregational Church. Her strong connection to St. Albans was Liz Lerman's "Hallelujah Project" in March of 2001, and the family camp "Idlewild" on the North Shore of Hathaway Point.

Survivors include her daughters, Pam Whitfield and her husband Richard of Hathaway Point, and Charrie Moller and her husband, Fred Jr. of Wells; six grandchildren, Sherrie B. Shaw, Preston D. Billings, Jeffrey L. Billings, Steven B. Billings, P. Telos Whitfield and R. Tor Whitfield; and four great-grandchildren.

There will be no services at this time. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Arrangements are in the care of the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main St.

LOUISE MAE ALEXANDER

ENOSBURG FALLS -- Louise Mae Alexander, age 74, died Wednesday evening, July 24, 2002, at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans.

She was born May 30, 1928, in Bakersfield, the daughter of the late David and Agnes (Eldred) Farrand.

She was a resident of Enosburg Falls and Montgomery Center most of her life.

She is survived by two sons, Kenneth Alexander of Montgomery Center, and Cleo Alexander and his wife Susan of Richford; one daughter, Louise Alexander and her friend Forrest Bryant of Barre; one brother, Winston Farrand of Johnson; one sister, June Farrand of Waterbury; two grandchildren, Robert Bryant and Mindy Alexander; one great-grandson, Robert Bryant Jr.; her home provider and friend, Florence Nolan of Enosburg Falls. She was predeceased by a sister, Ruth Miller.

A graveside service will be held Saturday afternoon 1 o'clock at the Hill West Cemetery in Montgomery Center. There will be no calling hours.

For those who wish, contributions in her memory may be made to the American Heart Association.

CAMERON JOSEPH PELLETIER

HIGHGATE CENTER -- Cameron Joseph Pelletier, infant son of Joseph and Kristi Pelletier, passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2002, at the Children's Hospital in Boston, Mass.

He was born in Boston, Mass. on June 5, 2002, the son of Joseph James Pelletier and Kristi (Lehmann) Pelletier of Highgate Center.

Cameron fought a strong, brave and courageous battle for life with his loving parents and family by his side. He was a "little trooper" and will always be remembered as such. Although his time here was all to brief, he will forever remain in the hearts of his parents, family and friends who loved him.

He is survived by his parents, Joseph and Kristi Pelletier of Highgate Center; his maternal grandparents, Alagra Raymond of Alburg, and Allen (Skip) and Darlene Lehmann of Swanton; his paternal grandparents, Joseph W. Pelletier and Agnes Pelletier of St. Albans; his great-grandmothers, Teresa Bressette of California and Evelyn Giroux of St. Albans; plus several aunts, uncles, cousins and close family friends.

It is the families wish that there be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2002, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anne's Shrine in Isle La Motte. A luncheon will be held after the service at the St. Amadeus Parish Hall in Alburg Village.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Cameron's full name, (Cameron Joseph Pelletier), to the Children's Hospital, 300 Longwood Drive, Boston, Mass., 02215.

Local arrangements were under the direction of the Kidder memorial Home of Swanton.
