EVARISTE D. ST. PIERRE

ENOSBURG FALLS -- Evariste D. St. Pierre, age 89, passed away Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002, at the Foyer Nursing Home in Sutton, Quebec, Canada, with his family at his side.

He was born in St. Pierre Baptiste, Quebec, Canada, on Sept. 3, 1912, one of 13 siblings of the late Desire and Marie (Martel) St. Pierre.

Evariste moved his family to Vermont in September of 1957, to operate his dairy farm, retiring in 1972. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.

He is survived by 11 children, Mariette Godbout of Hollywood, Fla., Denise Plouffe of Richford, Bertrand St. Pierre and his wife Marielle of Richford, Fernand St. Pierre and his wife Jeannette of Enosburg Falls, Louisette Philippon and her husband Noel of Manchester, N.H., Dominique St. Pierre and his wife Rejeane of Burlington, Lise Charron and her husband Claude of Berkshire, Francoise Cutting and her husband John of Swanton, Rosaire St. Pierre of Enosburg Falls, Michael St. Pierre and his wife Carolyn of Enosburg Falls, and Lynn Lambesis and her husband Arthur of St. Albans; 25 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; his brothers and sisters, Lena St. Pierre of Plessisville, Quebec, Alcide St. Pierre of Laurierville, Quebec, Adrien St. Pierre of Quebec City, Quebec, Raoul St. Pierre of Sorel, Quebec, Paul-Emile St. Pierre and his wife Jeanne of Plessisville, Quebec, Cecile Gosselin and her husband Camille of Plessisville, Quebec, and Roland St. Pierre of Victoriaville, Quebec; a sister-in-law, Gertrude St. Pierre of Victoriaville, Quebec; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife, Anne Marie (Brochu) St. Pierre on April 6, 1991, they were married Aug. 22, 1936. He was also predeceased by a grandson, Daniel St. Pierre in 1988; a son-in-law, Jean Marc Godbout in 2001; two sisters, Juliette and Rosa; two brothers, Herve and Eugene.

Funeral services will be held today (Tuesday) at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Reverend Gerard Leclerc celebrating the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery.

Visiting hours will be held Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls.

For those who wish, contributions in his memory may be made to the Enosburgh Ambulance Service, 83 Sampsonville Rd., Enosburg Falls, Vt. 05450.

ELIZABETH CHARLOTTE (GALVIN) DAVIS

ST. ALBANS/SALISBURY -- Elizabeth Charlotte Galvin Davis passed away in her sleep on Friday evening, Aug. 30, 2002, at the Haven Health Nursing Home in St. Albans, where she has lived for almost seven years. Elizabeth was born on Nov. 11, 1916, in Salisbury. She was the second daughter of George Galvin and Florence Gale.

She was raised on a large dairy farm in Salisbury. Elizabeth was a graduate of Brandon High School and Middlebury College, class of 1938. She earned a degree in business from Brattleboro Business Institute and a Masters Degree from New York University in 1940. She taught mathematics and business courses at Richmond High School and Arlington High School before she married Ellsworth Davis of Hinesburg in 1944. She and Ellsworth divorced in 1960. He predeceased her in 1978. Elizabeth returned to teaching briefly as a substitute before becoming assistant to the town manager of Essex Junction, a job she held for many years. She lived most of her life in Williston.

Her love was always teaching and she returned to teaching at Highgate High School in 1967, where she was a popular history teacher for several years. When Highgate High School closed to join the Missisquoi Valley Union, she retired. She loved to read and learn. She was a devoted gardener. She enjoyed the countryside, farm life, and "all things English, " as she would put it. She enjoyed political discussions and had strong opinions, which she based on her knowledge of United States history. She was a devoted mother who put her children's needs above all else. In her later years, she did genealogy research and with the help of her sister, Marjorie, and her cousin, Paul, has left a rich and extensive record of her family history for her relatives and descendants. She was always a letter writer and a letter saver. She kept and left behind a large file of letters, dating back into the 1920s.

Elizabeth raised four children, mostly as a single mother when single motherhood was out of fashion. Her children are Gary Davis of Highgate, Diane Davis Villemaire of Moretown, Ronald Davis of Williston, and Tim Davis of Hyannis, Mass. She leaves three sisters, Eleanor Place and her husband Kenneth of Peru, N.Y., Marjorie Galvin of Bennington, Josephine Haines and her husband Carleton of Williston, and June Lucia and her husband Martin of South Windsor, Conn. Her older sister, Laura Oney of Middlebury, predeceased her. She leaves two brothers, Stanley Galvin and his wife Nancy and Ellsworth Galvin, all of Salisbury. She leaves her granddaughter, Emily Villemaire of Millis, Mass.; her son-in-law Bernard Villemaire of Moretown; a daughter-in-law, Betty Davis of Hyannis, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews. She was close to several cousins, in particular, her cousin Paul Gale of Clark, N.J., who predeceased her, and her cousins Edward and Muriel Conant of Devon, England, who were frequent correspondents in later years. She leaves a sister-in-law, Marion Davis of Hinesburg, and a brother-in-law, Byron Davis of Ashville, N.C., who showed her much kindness after her stroke in 1994, and through the rest of her life.

The family would like to thank all the people who work at Haven Health Nursing Home (formerly VerDelle Village) for their many years of good care and kindness.

The funeral service for Elizabeth will be held on Friday at 1 p.m. in the Salisbury Congregational Church. Officiating will be the Reverend John Grivetti, pastor.

A reception will immediately follow the service in the Church Fellowship Hall. Graveside committal services and burial will take place at 4 p.m. in the Holman Cemetery, Salisbury.

Arrangements are under the care of Sanderson Funeral Service in Middlebury.

JOAN (SHELDON) CRESS

LITTLETON, Mass./EAST HIGHGATE -- Joan (Sheldon) Cress passed on to be with her brother, Bubby, and parents the morning of Oct. 20, at her home in Littleton, Mass.

Joan was born Nov. 22, 1933, and she was the eldest daughter of the late William C. and Vanette (Pattee) Sheldon. She was the wife of Leonard Cress, whom she married in August of 1965 in Littleton, Mass., and who survives her.

Joan enjoyed visiting with her neighbors, playing cards and working in the farm stand. Joan attended high school in Richford and moved to Littleton in 1958. She worked the Coupers Farm Stand in Littleton for many years, as well as working for her aunt and uncle, Thelma and the late Howard Pattee, as well as raising her children.

Joan is survived by her children, Sara and her husband Charlie Weeks and granddaughter Vanessa Barisano of Acton, Mass., and Jeffrey and his wife Diana Cress and grandson Max Arnold of Charlton, Mass. She is also survived by her sister, Laura Laurie of East Highgate; her special Aunt Thelma Pattee of Littleton, Mass. and her sister-in-law, Betty Sheldon of St. Albans; her cousins, Alan and Raymond Kinney, Carolyn Stetson, Bill Pattee, Patricia Carpenter, Mary Groff, Leonard and Butch Peace, as well as their spouses, and Marilyn Marsha. She was predeceased by her brother, Bill Sheldon, and cousin, Betty Lajueness. Joan also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

There will be a graveside service on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002, at 10 a.m. at the East Highgate Cemetery (Hanna Road, East Highgate).

In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the Littleton Ambulance Gift Fund, 20 Foster St., Littleton, Mass., 01460.

RITA R. (CORBIERE) MORRILL

SOUTH BURLINGTON / COLCHESTER -- Rita Rose (Corbiere) Morrill, age 76, passed away peacefully at her daughter's home early Wednesday morning, Oct. 30, 2002. She was born in Winooski, on June 12, 1926, daughter of the late Ovila and Virginia (Labelle) Corbiere. Rita married Harold Morrill on May 14, 1949, in St. Francis Xavier Church, Winooski. He predeceased her on Dec. 20, 1986.

She was a devoted and loving wife and mother, living for many years in Burlington and later in South Burlington. Rita so looked forward to the timeless hours she would spend lovingly creating personally designed quilts for her family and close friends. Her unconditional love and attentions will be greatly missed by all of those who knew and loved her.

She is survived by three sons, David Morrill and his wife Lia of Texas, John Morrill and his wife Peggy of Florida, and Robert Morrill of North Carolina; three daughters, Diane Rose and her husband Fred of Minnesota, Jeannie Modica and her husband David of Colchester, and Lisa Perrin and her husband Michael of South Burlington; three brothers, Stanley Corbiere and his wife Barbara of Florida, Rodolphe Corbiere and his wife Grace of South Burlington, and Richard Corbiere and his wife Loraine of Milton; 13 grandchildren; an aunt and several nieces and nephews; very dear and close friends, Sister Marie Feeley, Reverend John Hamilton; and all of her wonderful friends from Allenwood and Harbor View. She was also predeceased by her son, Stephen Morrill on June 29, 1978; her twin sister, Reina Wright; and a sister, Janet Reil.

There will be no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002, at 11 a.m. in St. John Vianney Church, 160 Hinesburg Rd. So. Burlington, with the Reverend John Hamilton officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot in Lakeview Cemetery, Burlington.

Memorial contributions may be made in Rita's memory to VNA, Home Care or Hospice Program, 25 Prim Rd., Colchester, Vt. 05446.

Arrangements are by Hayes-Rich Funeral Home, 1176 Main St., Fairfax.

RAMON A. VILLA

ST. ALBANS BAY -- Ramon A. Villa, 84, a resident of this area since 1939, passed away peacefully at his Hathaway Point Road home on Tuesday morning, Oct. 29, 2002. He was born in Websterville, Nov. 22, 1917, the son of the late Alberto and Obdulia (Cruz) Villa.

Ramon moved to St. Albans from Barre, in 1939 and worked as an electrician and machinist for the Central Vermont Railway for 35 years, retiring in 1977. He also was an accomplished chef and worked in the Blue Lion Grill and Open Hearth restaurants in St. Albans. He was a Master Sergeant in the Army during World War II serving with the 88th Blue Devils Heavy Weapons Company in Italy. During the Korean Conflict he served with the Tank company, 172nd Infantry of the 43rd Regiment. As a veteran, he was a member of the DAV - LC#17, Robert E. Glidden Post #758, VFW, and Green Mountain Post #1, American Legion. He also belonged to the First Congregational Church, St. Albans Lodge #1566, BPOE, Franklin Lodge #4, F&AM, St. Albans Historical Museum, CVRR Historical Society, and CVRR Veterans Association. He had also been a scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America and received a citation from them and from the St. Albans Rotary Club. In his leisure he enjoyed gardening, ice fishing and golfing. He is missed by the 8 a.m. Coffee Group.

Ramon is survived by his wife, Marjorie G. (Gray) Villa; a son, Albert J. Villa of St. Albans; a daughter, Alice Watras and her husband, Robert, of Northport, Fla.; two sisters, Rosa Usle and Mary Argenti both of Barre; four grandchildren, Laura Murach and her husband, Bryan, of Granby, Conn., Catherine Watras of Burlington, Conn., David Watras and his wife, Barbara, of St. Augustine, Fla., and Erika Villa of Waltham, Mass.; a great-grandson, Christopher Murach of Granby, Conn.; and dear friends, Herm and Ellie Schuster, Betty Hope, and Jeffrey King and family; as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his first wife, Eleanor (Gray) Villa; four brothers, Roger, Joseph, Julian, and Fernando Villa; and three sisters, Laura Hanson, Phyllis Coletti and Ampara Villa.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002, at 11 a.m. in the First Congregational Church in St. Albans. The Reverend Judy Kennedy will officiate. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Albans Historical Museum, P.O. Box 722, St. Albans, Vt. 05478. Arrangements are by the Heald Funeral Home, 87 So. Main St., St. Albans.

GUY JOSLIN

ST. ALBANS -- Guy Joslin, 82, a resident of this area since 1946, passed away on Monday, Oct. 28, 2002, at Haven Health Center following a long illness. He was born in Waitsfield on Sept. 18, 1920, the son of the late Harold and Floy (Bettis) Joslin. On Jan. 14, 1950, in Colchester, he married the former Jeanne Webster, who survives him.

Guy was the supervisor of the Second Franklin County Dairy Herd Improvement Association (DHIA) for 36 years and was also supervisor of DHIA in Windham County prior to entering the Army. He served in France and Germany during World War II in the 62nd Armored Infantry Battalion. He was a graduate of Waitsfield High School and the Vermont School of Agriculture in Randolph.

Guy enjoyed hunting, fishing gardening, baseball, and was a talented "fixer".

Besides his wife of 52 years, Jeanne of St. Albans, he is survived by two sons, Thomas Joslin and his wife Sarah of Jericho, and Arnold Joslin of St. Albans Town; a grandson, Ben Joslin; two sisters, Alberta Stafford of Waitsfield, and Janet Perry and her husband William of Sudbury, Mass.; two brothers and their wives, Eugene and Edith Joslin of Middlesex, and Mark and Rosalie Joslin of Websterville; a brother-in-law, Stanley Webster and his wife Lois of Georgia; a sister-in-law, Agnes Joslin of Ludlow, Mass.; four aunts; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by two sisters, Vercil Joslin in 1925, and Dorothy Livingston in 1999; and by a brother, Lewis Joslin in 1989.

There will be no services. He carried his load without complaint and tried to help others along the way. There is nothing greater we could say. So sleep now darling, you've earned your rest. You were truly one of the best. Those who knew him will remember him fondly.

Arrangements are by the Heald Funeral Home, 87 So. Main St., St. Albans.

CHLEELE THOMAS RAYMOND and HELEN CATHERINE RAYMOND

HIGHGATE CENTER -- Chleele Thomas Raymond and his wife Helen Catherine Raymond died closely together in the Holiday House Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility in St. Albans Town.

Mr. Raymond passed away late Saturday afternoon, Oct. 26, 2002, and Mrs. Raymond early Sunday morning, Oct. 27, 2002.

Chleele was born in Morrisville on June 18 1912, a son of the late Frank and Cordelia (Bovat) Raymond. He attended Peoples Academy and on Nov. 16, 1939, married the former Helen Henry; they were together for 63 years. He loved tinkering in his garage and enjoyed taking on the challenge of fixing anything that was broken. He was a well-respected auto body mechanic and in earlier years had been associated with Hungerford's Ford and Rocheleau's Auto and later worked as a welder for the General Electric Company. In later years, he was self-employed from his home and became an expert in clock repair.

Helen was born in Chester on Aug. 27, 1914, a daughter of the late Charles and Grace (Beard) Henry. She attended schools in Chester and graduated from the Mary Fletcher Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse. On Nov. 16, 1939, she married Chleele Thomas Raymond, who predeceased her. She began nursing at Copley Hospital in Morrisville but spent most of her career at the former St. Albans Hospital, where she was affectionately known as "Mother Raymond." She retired from the St. Albans Hospital as a nursing supervisor in 1976. She will always be remembered as a gentle, caring person, a devoted grandmother and avid reader.

Both Chleele and Helen were members of St. Louis Roman Catholic Parish in Highgate Center.

They leave their children: Carol and her husband, Ebenezer Johnson, of Milton; Timothy Raymond and his wife, Lorraine, of Highgate Center; Lynn Raymond and his wife, Claire, of St. Albans City; and Terrence Raymond and his wife, Shirley, of St. Albans Town; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Chleele also leaves two sisters, Mary Jean Buck of Derby Line and Betty Graveline of Greenfield, Mass., and a brother, Wylie Raymond of Essex.

A son, Anthony Henry "Tony" Raymond, predeceased them on Nov. 27, 1989. Chleele was predeceased by several brothers and sisters, Helen by a brother, Arnold Henry.

A Mass of Christian Burial for both Mr. and Mrs. Raymond will be celebrated Thursday, Oct. 31, 2002, at 11 a.m. from St. Louis Roman Catholic Church, Lamkin Street, Highgate Center. Father Marcel Rainville from the Office of Campus Ministry at St. Michael's College in Colchester will be the celebrant and homilist.

Interment will follow in the Raymond family lot in St. Louis Cemetery. Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton on Wednesday evening, Oct. 30, 2002, from 7 to 9 p.m.

Gifts in Chleele's and/or Helen's memory may be made to the, Franklin County Home Health Agency, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, Vt. 05478, or to the charity of one's choice.
