MARY JANE BOUCHARD

BAKERSFIELD ­ Mary Jane Bouchard, age 78, passed away peacefully Sunday morning, Oct. 27, 2002, at her home. She was born Oct. 9, 1924, in Northfield, the daughter of the late Norman and Marie Anne (Fortin) Messier.

She was a resident of Bakersfield for the past 43 years and was a former resident of Northfield. She was a member of St. George's/St. Anthony's Catholic Church in East Fairfield, and a former member of St. John's Catholic Church in Northfield. She was also a member of the Fairfield/Bakersfield Senior Meal Site Program.

She was the beloved mother of five children: Laura Gervais and her husband, Bruce, of St. Albans; Lucille Bouchard and her fiance, Jerry Regan, of New Athens, Ill.; Teresa Bouchard, of Bakersfield, Marcel Bouchard and his wife, Martina, of Walthourville, Ga., and Rita Salls and her husband, Victor, of St. Albans. She is also survived by her brothers and sister, Arthur Messier of Plainsville, Conn., Leo Messier of Barre, Arlene Roux and her husband Robert of Websterville, Fla./Williamstown, and Albert Messier and his wife Normande of Northfield; five grandchildren, Kerry and Corey Salls, Patrick Routhier, and Bianca and Henry Bouchard; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Rolland H. Bouchard; and a grandson, Victor Anthony Salls.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 11 at St. Anthony's/St. George's Catholic Church in East Fairfield with Rev. Joseph Sullivan celebrating the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. George's Cemetery in Bakersfield.

Visiting hours will be held today, Tuesday, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls.

For those who wish, contributions in her memory may be made to St. Anthony's/St. George's Catholic Church, c/o Rev. Joseph Sullivan, P.O. Box 18, Fairfield, Vt. 05455.

ELSIE RICHARDS HASTINGS

ST. ALBANS -- Elsie died on Friday, Oct. 18, at the age of 75 at Redstone Villa in St. Albans, after a long illness. She was born, Elsie Elizabeth Richards in Exeter, N.H. on Sept. 6, 1927, to William and Dorothy Richards. She married Scott E. Hastings, Jr. on Aug. 23, 1947.

They settled in Woodstock, in 1951, raised three sons, Scott, Alec and Duncan, and were active and valued members of their community. Scott predeceased Elsie in 1990. She loved her family above all else and her grandchildren gave her special joy. Elsie's life was about others. She gave with boundless energy to friends, community, church and career. She was quick with a smile, and a helping hand for those less fortunate than her She was a dedicated member and officer of the Universalist Church. She worked at the Woodstock Pharmacy, Ottaquechee Health Center, UVM Extension, and was a successful realtor and bank director. She co-authored "Up in the Morning Early" with husband, Scott. She was a B.P.W. "Women of the Year". Elsie is cherished by all who knew and loved her.

There will be a memorial service at the Universalist Church in Woodstock on Nov. 30, 2002.

DONALD O. SANDERSON

ST. ALBANS BAY -- Donald O. Sanderson, 75, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, Oct. 25, 2002, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington. He was born in Akron, Ohio on April 26, 1927, the son of the late Robert R. and Virginia A. (Wasser) Sanderson. On June 17, 1949, in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, he was married to the former Barbara Lilley, who survives him.

Following graduation from Talmadge High School in Talmadge, Ohio and Kent State University, Don was a teacher at Mount Mansfield Union High School and then at Bellows Free Academy in St. Albans for 15 years. He was a machinist mate in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He enjoyed carpentry and woodworking, but his family was his biggest interest.

Besides his wife of 53 years, he is survived by two sons; Donald O. Sanderson II and his wife Mary of South Hero, and Robert J. Sanderson of Williston; three daughters and their husbands, Beth Lynn and Peter Caswell of Eureka, Montana, Claudia J. and Richard Jenkins of St. Albans, and Melanie K. and Allen Yanney of Fairfield; his grandchildren, Karen Caswell Fowler and her husband, Steve, Jeff Caswell and his wife, Noelle, Becky Miller and her husband, Homer, Ian Caswell, Sarah Caswell, Matthew Yanney, Richard Yanney, Megan Yanney, Brittany Sanderson, Morgan Sanderson, Calvin Sanderson and Sidney Sanderson; four great-grandchildren, James and Jacob Fowler and Brandon and Scott Caswell; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Forest; brother-in-law, John Lilley; and several nieces, nephews and one cousin. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Robert Sanderson; a sister, Dorothy Bray; and a granddaughter, Shannon Caswell.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to send a contribution to their local veteran's organization.

Arrangements are by the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans.

PAULINE B. LAVALLEE

WILLISTON -- Pauline Bernadette Lavallee, age 64, passed away on Saturday evening, Oct. 26, 2002, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, with her loving family by her side.

She was welcomed into this world on Jan. 3, 1938, in Gardner, Mass., second child of the Lavallee triplets, daughter of the late George and Simone (Laverdure) Lavallee.

She graduated BFA-Fairfax High School class of 1956 and was a retired dedicated employee of IBM. She so looked forward to the time spent with friends when they would caravan to her favorite casinos where she would surround herself with the electric atmosphere, excitement, anticipation and new people. Pauline never missed a good bingo game and was well known at the Our Lady of Grace Church sponsored bingo games.

Pauline rarely missed an outing to Centennial Field as an avid Vermont Expos fan. She enjoyed quality times with friends and family at home playing her favorite card game, Hand & Foot. As a collector of Native American memorabilia, she grew to develop a great respect for the true native Americans of our country. Pauline will be well remembered for her keen sense of humor, contagious smile and loving nature. Her passing will be a great loss to her family, many friends and all of those who had the true fortune to know and love her.

She is survived by her devoted companion and loving caregiver, Sandra Bleau of Williston; two brothers, Normand Lavallee of Highgate and her twin brother Paul Lavallee and his wife Pauline of Fairfax; three sisters, her twin sister Paulette Lavallee of Winooski, Claire Lemnah and her husband Ralph of Fairfax, Mariette Lavallee and her companion Carol Hollenbeck of Colchester; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, cousins and many close friends.

Visiting hours will be at the Hayes-Rich Funeral Home on Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002, from 2 ­ 4 p.m. and 7 ­ 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002, at 11 a.m. in St. Luke Church, Fairfax with the Reverend Francis E. Connors officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot in St. Luke Cemetery, Fairfax.

Memorial contributions may be made in Pauline's memory to the Vermont Regional Breast Cancer Center, 1 So. Prospect St., Burlington, Vt. 05401, or to the charity of one's choice.

Arrangements are by the Hayes-Rich Funeral Home, 1176 Main St., Fairfax.

PAUL C. BROOKS

HIGHGATE/SWANTON ­ Mr. Paul C. Brooks, age 81, died Friday evening, Oct. 25, 2002, in the Holiday House Nursing Home. Paul was born in Swanton, Sept. 19, 1921, son of the late Maurice and Marion (St. Pierre) Brooks.

Paul served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a proud veteran. He served in the 22nd Armored Tank Battalion, in the battles of Rhineland, Ardennes and throughout the European Theater. Upon return from military service, he was a clerk and porter for the Central Vermont Railway, retiring in 1963. Paul was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 758, and a member of the American Legion Post 1, 11th Armored Division Association and the Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge.

Paul married Marion Beyor, who predeceased him in 1988.

Paul is survived by his brother, Rolland Brooks of Kingston, N.H.; sister, Joan and her husband Bert Pion of Fairfield; several nieces and nephews, including Rose Peno, Karen Pion, and his primary care giver, Patricia Gebo; also his great-nephew, Mark Gebo.

Paul's family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the Club Respite and Holiday House staff members.

Private funeral services will be held Tuesday in the Brady & Levesque Chapel. Father Leonidas Laroche will officiate. Interment will follow in the Brooks family lot in Riverside Cemetery, Swanton.

Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Club Respite, c/o Sue Chase, P.O. Box 515, St. Albans Bay, Vt. 05481.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.

DAVID F. GOULETTE

ESSEX JUNCTION/ST. ALBANS - David Francis Goulette, age 63, went home to the Lord on Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002, at his home, following a long illness. He was born in Montpelier March 16, 1939, son of the late Francis and Rita (Shepard) Goulette.

He graduated from Bellows Free Academy in St. Albans in 1957. David served in the U.S. Air Force from 1957 to 1959 and served in the Vermont National Guard before and after his military service. He was employed at General Electric, Central Vermont Railway, Inc. and retired in 1992 after 25 years with the U.S. Postal Service.

He was married to Elizabeth Larrow Jones on Jan. 21, 1989, in St. Andrews Church, Colchester. His hobbies and interests were camping, fishing, traveling, playing electronic organ, computers, ham radio (KINKU) and his pet poodle, Pitou. He also spend many happy hours as a Boy Scout father, Weeblo Leader, Scout Master, Committee Chairman at St. Joseph's Church of Burlington, and volunteer at St. Luke's Church in St. Albans.

He was a loyal and dedicated son, brother, husband, father and friend. Honesty and responsibility were of utmost importance to him. Through 20 years of heart trouble and diabetes, he maintained a positive attitude and enjoyed every day to the best of his ability, even though life presented many adversities. He wanted everyone to know he was very tired and ready for the transition from this life, to the next, without apprehension.

David is survived by his second wife, Elizabeth (Betty Jones) Goulette; his adopted son, Kevin; his step-children and their spouses, Julie and Steve Osgood, Mark Jones, Dean and Judy Jones; nine grandchildren; three brothers and their spouses, Donald and Gloria Goulette, now in El Paso, Texas, Daniel and Janis Goulette now in Elkridge, Md., Judy Goulette (widow of Douglas) in St. Albans, Dale and Janet Goulette now in Franktown, Colo.; several nieces, nephews, cousins; and his first wife, Linda Goulette.

He was predeceased by his parents; stepson, David Jones; and brother, Douglas.

At this time, the family wishes to thank the VNA Hospice RN's, LNA's, and Social Worker of Colchester, the many doctors and most of all, the Lord, for helping him to understand and cope with the end of life process. David wished to express his heartfelt appreciated for the love and support of his wife, Betty, and his stepchildren for helping to make his life as comfortable as possible and a very meaningful experience. He also wanted to say something that his many caregivers will recognize: ìBe gentle, I'm feeling very poorly whether he was or wasn't on a particular day.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 28, in St. Luke's Episcopal Church, St. Albans. Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., St. Albans, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday. Interment will be in the Goulette family lot in Holy Cross Cemetery.

Those who wish may make a contribution to the charity of their choice.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.

NORMA M. BYRNE

SOUTH GLENS FALLS, N.Y./ST. ALBANS -- Norma M. Byrne, 71, of South Glens Falls, passed away on Monday, Oct. 21, 2002, at The Holiday House Nursing Home, in St. Albans.

Born on June 17, 1931, in Glens Falls, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Robert Jesse and Laura (Leroux) West.

Norma graduated from Child's Hospital in Albany, N.Y., as an LPN and worked at the Glens Falls Hospital, Eden Park Nursing Home, and In-Home Private Duty Nursing for many years.

She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Glens Falls.

Her enjoyments included playing pinochle, bowling, and knitting. Time spent with her family and friends was precious to her.

In addition to her parents, an infant brother, Philip Allen West, predeceased her.

Survivors include two sons and a daughter and their spouses: Jeffrey Byrne and his wife, Leslie, of Highgate Center, Timothy Byrne and his wife, Susan, of Derby Line, Sue Millar and her husband, Tom, of New Port Richey, Fla.; three brothers, Robert J. West, of Hudson Falls, Francis P. West and his wife, Shirley, of Warrensburg and Milton J. West of Hudson Falls; six grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and her dear friend, Dorcas Warner of Glens Falls.

Special thanks to Dr. John Weinhold and his staff at the Adirondack Cancer Center, Glens Falls, N.Y., the Radiation Oncology Department at Glens Falls Hospital, the staff at Our Lady of the Meadows, Richford, VT; the Oncology Department at Fletcher Allen Health Care, Burlington, and the staff at The Holiday House Nursing Home in St. Albans. Well wishes from family and friends were greatly appreciated also.

Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 25, at Carleton Funeral Home Inc., 68 Main St. in Hudson Falls.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday at St. Mary's/St. Paul's Church, on the park in Hudson Falls, with the Rev. Barry Lonergan, officiating.

The Rite of Committal will follow in the St. Mary's Cemetery on Main St. in So. Glens Falls.

Memorials in Norma's name may be sent in the form of contributions to the Cancer Center at the Pruyn Pavilion of the Glens Falls Hospital, 100 Park Street, Glens Falls, N.Y 12801, or to the American Cancer Society, 959 Route 9, Mount Royal Plaza, Queensbury, N.Y. 12804.
