THOMAS H. BRISSON

WINOOSKI/BAKERSFIELD -- Thomas H. Brisson, 62, of St. Albans, formerly of Winooski, died on Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002, in Bakersfield. He was born in Burlington on Sept. 22, 1940, the son of the late Perley G. and Florence (Guiard) Brisson.

Thomas attended Winooski High School. He loved fishing, dancing and watching the stars.

He is survived by his sisters and brother, MaryAnn Pokropowicz and her husband George of Worcester, Mass., Eugene Brisson and his wife Phyllis of Essex, Joyce Root and her husband Richard of Chandler, Arizona, Janice Hall of Colchester, Lorraine Garrison and her husband Raymond of Essex, Catherine Robideau and her husband Louis of Colchester; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by Kolleen and Homer Richards of Bakersfield, with whom he made his home. Thomas was predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Betty Brisson.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002, at 11 a.m. at the LaVigne Funeral Home, 132 Main St., Winooski. Interment will follow in St. Stephen's Cemetery in Colchester. Visiting hours will be at the funeral home on Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Vermont Division, Inc., 13 Loomis St., Montpelier, Vt. 05602.

ROGER W. STEBBINS

WILLISTON -- Roger William Stebbins, age 70, died unexpectedly in his home in Williston on Monday, Dec. 9, 2002. He was born on March 14, 1932, in Elmira, N.Y., son of the late Martin. H. and Muriel A. (Burt) Stebbins.

Roger graduated from Burlington High School in 1950, after which he served his country well in the US Air Force from 1951 to 1955 as a cartographic specialist while stationed in Japan. He married the former Marjorie A. Paulin on Aug. 26, 1955, in Riverside, Calif. Roger retired from the State of Vermont, as an appraiser for the Department of Transportation and Highways in 1996.

He enjoyed playing guitar and mandolin with family and friends and especially enjoyed Bluegrass music. Roger also loved playing golf, cards, cribbage, pool, hunting and fishing. His one claim to fame came from appearing as an extra in the movie "What Lies Beneath" with Harrison Ford. In 2001, he was made a lifetime member of the VFW in Morrisville.

He is survived by his wife, Marjorie of Williston; four children, and seven grandchildren, his daughter Suzanne Hurst, her husband Donald and their children Krystal and Kyle, of Milton, his daughter Nancy White, her husband Richard and their children Nikki and Brad, of Shelburne, his daughter Roberta Castonguay, her husband Kenneth and their children Jennifer, Keith and Samantha of Hinesburg, his son Eric Stebbins of Williston; two brothers, Rupert Stebbins and his wife Amber of Tavares, Fla., and Randall Stebbins of Milton; three sisters, Phyllis Chittenden of Winooski, Marilyn Wheelock of Williston, and Arlene La Fountain and her husband Eugene of Venice, Fla.; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was also predeceased by his brother, Ronald H. Stebbins.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002, from 2 - 4 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m. at the Hayes-Rich Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Dec. 13, 2002, at 11 a.m. at the United Church of Fairfax with the Reverend Elizabeth Griffin officiating. Inurnment will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are by the Hayes-Rich Funeral Home, 1176 Main St., Fairfax.

HELEN J. WEBB

Helen J. Webb, 79, formerly of Swanton, died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Webb.

Survivors include two children, Stephen C. Webb and Linda J. Aceto; and four grandchildren, Matt, Sarah, Andy and Tom.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.

ELIZABETH B. LAHUE

ST. ALBANS -- Elizabeth B. Lahue, 78, a lifelong resident of this area, passed away peacefully Sunday evening, Dec. 8, 2002, at Haven Health Center following a lengthy illness. She was born in St. Albans, Oct. 14, 1924, the daughter of the late Arthur and Elizabeth (Hart) Boomhover.

Betty had been employed by Union Carbide, Isham's Nursing Home and Kerbs Memorial Hospital. She loved animals, especially her cats.

Survivors include her son Allen Hulbert and his friend, Lucy Johnson of St. Albans; a daughter, Eleanor Dean and her husband, James of Sheldon; a sister, Thelma Isham of St. Albans Town; a brother, Vernon Boomhover of Shelburne; five grandchildren, Travis Rich, James Nicholas Dean, Jennifer Dean, Everett A. Hulbert and William R. Hulbert; three great-grandchildren, Victoria Ashley Hulbert, Alexis Elizabeth Hulbert and Heather Elizabeth Eleanor Hulbert; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Samuel Hulbert; her second husband, Leonard Lahue; a sister, Eleanor Heald; a sister-in-law, Ilene Boomhover; and brothers-in-law, Everett Heald and Lt. Col. Spencer Isham.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. in the Heald Funeral Chapel with The Reverends Jane and Ward Wilson, former local pastors, officiating. Interment will be next spring in the Boomhover family lot in Greenwood Cemetery.

Gifts in Betty's memory may be made to the Franklin County Humane Society, 30 Sunset Meadows, St. Albans, Vt. 05478. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the funeral service on Wednesday.

Arrangements are by the Heald Funeral Home, 87 So. Main St., St. Albans.

PHYLLIS (THOMAS) PETTENGILL

WILLISTON -- Phyllis (Thomas) Pettengill, age 87, passed away Monday morning, Dec. 9, 2002, at the Vermont Respite House in Williston. She was born May 18, 1915, in Belvidere, daughter of the late Ralph A. and Cassie (Wescome) Thomas.

Phyllis graduated Johnson Teachers College and attended the University of Vermont. She married Robert Titus who predeceased her in 1984. She married Harold Walter Pettengill who predeceased her April 13, 1990. She was a respected and dedicated elementary school teacher in Essex Center, Essex Jct., Cambridge, Bolton and Jericho, retiring in 1968.

Phyllis was a member of the Second Congregational Church, Crescendo Club and the Women's Fellowship, all of Jeffersonville. Phyllis will be greatly missed by her neighbors at Whitney Hill Homestead in Williston and her many friends, family and students whose lives she touched so deeply.

She is survived by two children, Jack H. Titus and his wife Judy of California and Jane T. Elwood and her husband Arlan of Essex Jct.; one sister, Frances Westman of Cambridge; 16 grandchildren, Debra Choate and her husband Robert, Jody Heffernan and her husband Kevin, Jerry Titus and his wife Maggie, Susan Barnes, Brenda Stone and her husband William, Frankie Titus, Tom Elwood and his wife Erika, David Titus and his wife Vicki, Cynthia Brady and her husband Michael, Heidi Taylor and her husband Brian, Lisa Mallabar and her husband James, Naomi Miller and her husband Adam, Jacquelyn Titus, Kimberly Bean and her husband Gilbert, Jennifer Drew and her husband Randy, and Blake Titus and his wife Samantha; 37 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also predeceased by her son, Thomas M. Titus; and her brother, Chauncey Thomas.

Visiting hours will be held at the Hayes-Rich Funeral Home on Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2002, from 7 - 9 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002, at 11 a.m. in the Grace United Methodist Church, 130 Maple St. Essex Jct., with the Reverend Brigid Farrell officiating. Inurnment will be in the spring in the family lot in Mountain View Cemetery, Essex.

Memorial contributions may be made in Phyllis' name to the Vermont Respite House, 63 Talcott Rd., P.O. Box 954, Williston, Vt. 05495.

Arrangements are by the Hayes-Rich Funeral Home, 1176 Main St., Fairfax.

MAX A. MICKEY SOULE

ENOSBURG FALLS -- Max A. Mickey Soule, age 76, died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, following a brief illness. He was born in Sheldon Jan. 14, 1926, the son of the late Andrew and Teresa (Riley) Soule.

Mickey had been a resident of Enosburg most of his life where he owned and operated Mickey's Barber Shop for 35 years, retiring in 1988. He was a village auditor for several years and was one of the original founders of the Enosburg Falls Country Club.

He is survived by his wife, Theresa (Young) Soule; one son, Gary Soule of Burlington; one daughter, Sarah Bashaw of Enosburg; two brothers and their wives, Horace and Charlotte Soule of Sheldon Creek, and Arthur and Mary Soule of Montgomery Center; one sister, Harriet Armstrong of St. Albans; four grandchildren, Travis and Stacey Bashaw of Portland, Maine, Damon Bashaw and Ashley Bashaw of Enosburg Falls, Morgan Soule of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Andrew Soule; and two sisters, Ruth Benoit and Laura Crane.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 11 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Enosburg, with Reverend Benedict Kiely officiating.

Burial will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery. Friends may call on the family this afternoon, Tuesday, from 2-4 and 7-9 at the Spears Funeral Home on Dickinson Avenue in Enosburg Falls.

JANICE R. (LaMONDA) DENNIS

MANCHESTER, N.H. -- Janice R. (LaMonda) Dennis, 63, of Manchester, N.H., died Dec. 9, 2002, at her residence, after a sudden illness. She was born in Enosburg Falls, Vt. on Jan. 17, 1939.

She had been employed as an executive secretary for Total Concept Marketing for the past 30 years. She enjoyed reading, antiquing, and doing things for her friends and family.

She leaves behind six daughters, Michele Taillon of Pittsfield, N.H., Tamara Dennis of Manchester, Wilma Dennis of Franklin, N.H., Susan Dennis of Canterbury, N.H., Shirley Dennis of Manchester, and Shannon Rivard of Raymond; one son, David Dennis of Manchester; 23 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and her lifelong friend, Andrew Tierno.

Calling hours at the McHugh Funeral Home, 483 Beech St., corner of Hanover St., Manchester, will be Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral service will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in Grace Episcopal Church, 106 Lowell St., Manchester, N.H.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Janice R. Dennis Scholarship Fund, Care of the Bank of New Hampshire, 300 Franklin St., Manchester, N.H., 03101.

LOUIS H. MOSSEY JR.

COLCHESTER -- Louis H. Mossey Jr., 73, died unexpectedly Saturday evening, Dec. 7, 2002, following an automobile accident. Lou was born on March 7, 1929, in Burlington, the son of Louis H. and Geraldine (Gordon) Mossey.

On June 13, 1953, he married Annette Danis of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Burlington. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean era, and served in the Air National Guard.

He had worked as an auto body technician for his whole life and was considered by many to be the best in his field. Louis was a member of the Winooski American Legion and of the Milton Eagles Arie 4218, serving currently as its President.

He and Annette had resided in Colchester for the past 25 years and were members of St. Ann's Parish in Milton. Louis was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend and mentor. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his wife Annette, Louis is survived by his sons, Louis H. "Chuck" Mossey III and his wife Anne of Milton, Darrell Mossey and his fiancee Joy Johnston of Grand Isle, Shawn Mossey of Swanton; and by his daughter, Cheryl Ann Tillitson and her husband John of Florida.

He is also survived by his grandchildren, Mickey, Bethany, Monica, Alicia, Justin, Ryan, April, Tim, and Douglas; by his brothers and sisters, Anita Chaplin of Virginia, Marjorie Primiture of White River Junction, Vt., Richard Mossey of Milton, James Mossey of Georgia, Linda Borthwick of Winooski and Eric Mossey of Fletcher; by his Aunt Margaret Gordon; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Edward and Doris Ploof, Don and Val Sicard, Nancy and Doug Cockerill, Dan and Sue Danis, and Donald and Marianne Danis. He was predeceased by his brothers, Kenneth, Gordon, Jackie, Gerald, Wayne and Dale Mossey.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002, at 11 a.m. in St. Ann's Catholic Church, Main Street, Milton. Burial will follow in St. Ann's Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, New England Division, 11 Loomis St., Montpelier, Vt. 05602-3021.

Visiting hours will be held Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home. A Wake Service will be held at 3:45 p.m. by Reverend Father John Feltz and an Eagles Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Funeral home.

Arrangements are by the Minor Funeral Home in Milton.
