MARTHA LOUISE PLOOF

MONTGOMERY CENTER -- Martha Louise Ploof, age 87, wife of Rolland Ploof, died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003, at the Redstone Villa Nursing Home in St. Albans. She was born Feb. 9, 1916, in Montgomery Center, the daughter of the late Walter and Matilda (Donna) Lumbra.

She was a resident of Montgomery Center most of her life and for the past three years made her home in Enosburg Falls and Richford. She was a member of St. Isidore's Catholic Church and the Ladies of St. Anne Society. She enjoyed playing cards.

Martha and Rolland were married June 22, 1936.

She is survived by her husband, Rolland Ploof, residing at Our Lady of the Meadows in Richford; two children and their spouses, Myrna and Owen Blodgett of South Hadley, Mass. and Stanley and Beverly Ploof of Southampton, Mass.; Terry and Allen Larose of Deland, Fla. and Sharon and Steven Plouff of Franklin; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister and her husband, Lorraine and Stanley Gillis of Montgomery Center; two brothers, Ronald Lumbra and his wife Eva of Montgomery Center, and Roy Lumbra of Holyoke, Mass. She was predeceased by a sister, Viola Tanner; and four brothers, Austin, Arthur, Oscar and Allen Lumbra.

Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 11 at St. Isidore's Catholic Church in Montgomery Center with Reverend Frank Eksterowicz celebrating the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be this spring in St. Isidore's Cemetery.

Visiting hours will be held Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls.

LOUIS K. (KEN) STELL, SR.

ST. ALBANS -- Louis K. Stell, Sr., 64, passed away on Friday, Feb. 14, 2003, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care. He was born in St. Albans, Jan. 5, 1939, the son of the late Edward and Adeline (Dennis) Stell. In St. Albans, on June 25, 1960 Ken married Linda L. Minckler who survives him.

Before Ken was ill he was a volunteer at the Holiday House Nursing Home where every year he played Santa Claus for the Christmas party, and, due to his involvement at the nursing home, he was given the Volunteer of the Year award by the State of Vermont. He was an avid poker player and enjoyed playing bingo, but he most enjoyed bowling. For many years he worked at Hannaford's in St. Albans.

Besides his wife of 42 years, Linda, of St. Albans, he is survived by his son, Louis K. Stell, Jr., of St. Albans and a daughter, Kim DuFresne and her husband Normand of Highgate Springs; special grandchildren, Johnathan DuFresne, and Jessica DuFresne and her friend, Carl Shanholzer; brothers, Edward Stell of St. Albans, Leonard and Linda J. Stell of Swanton and Harvey Stell of St. Albans; sisters, Betty Greeno and her husband, Alfred, of Clinton Mass., Shirley Bessette and her husband, William, of Westfield, Mass., and Cindy Stell of St. Albans; his mother-in-law, Gladys Minckler of St. Albans; several nieces and nephews; and his special dog, Benji; also his brothers-in-law, Donald Minckler of Franklin, Charles Conger, Jr. and his wife Earlene of St. Albans, Fred and Betty Nichols of Enosburg Falls; and sisters-in-law, Sandra Greenwood of Highgate Springs, and Frances Stell of Alburg; special friends, Michelle Pike, Ernie and Sherry Farrar, Tim and Sharon Kennison, and Troy Masse. He was predeceased by a brother, Paul Stell and a sister, Gloria Stell.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, at 11 a.m. in the Heald Funeral Chapel, 87 South Main Street. Interment will be in the family lot in Hope Cemetery in Georgia. Friends may call on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

LEONA M. BUSHEY

ST. ALBANS -- Mrs. Leona M. "Lee" (Gosselin) Bushey, age 79, died Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 12, 2003, in the Northwestern Medical Center, following a brief illness. She was born in St. Albans June 14, 1923, daughter of the late Hormidas "Billie" and Nellie (Corey) Gosselin.

Lee was a graduate of Holy Angels Commercial School and was employed at Union Carbide Consumer Products, then Bell Aircraft in Burlington, on to the Soda Fountain manager at M.H. Fishman's in St. Albans, and lastly at Green Mountain Industries.

She was a lifelong communicant of Holy Angels Church and a member of the Auxiliary Unit 1 of the American Legion, Auxiliary Unit 758 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a former member of the Women of the Moose.

She loved baseball, especially the Atlanta Braves, picture puzzles and held a lifetime hunting and fishing license. Lee always seemed to have time to stop and talk with everyone.

Her survivors include her two sons, Michael and his wife Patricia Bushey of Lake Clarke, Fla., and Kevin Bushey of Fairfax; her special companion, Robert Rich; brothers, Maynard and his wife Rita Gosselin, Norman and his wife Carmen Gosselin; sister-in-law Ida Gosselin, all of St. Albans; four grandchildren, Eric, Jodie, Jamie and Danielle; and her canine grandson Duke; several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 11 a.m. in Holy Angels Church. Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday. Interment will be in the Bushey family lot in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Make-A-Wish Foundation, 100 Dorset St., Suite 14, South Burlington, Vt. 05403.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.

MARION D. LADUE

ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla./SHELDON, Vt. -- Marion D. Ladue, 90, a longtime resident of Zephyrhills, Fla., died Thursday, Feb. 13, 2003, at Royal Lake Hospice Center, following a brief illness. Marion was born on Nov. 25, 1912, the daughter of George and Mary Lamotte Delaney.

She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond in 1974, and by her son, Robert, in 1967.

She is survived by her son, Raymond and his wife Elsie of Newport, Vt. and her daughter Betty and her husband Clark Hubbard of Franklin. She is also survived by many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

There will be no visiting hours. A Christian Burial Service will be held at the Sheldon Cemetery in the spring.

DANIEL JAMES RAINE

ST. ALBANS -- Daniel James Raine, 30, a lifelong resident of this area, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, Feb. 9, 2003, shortly after arrival at Northwestern Medical Center. He was born in St. Albans June 25, 1972, the son of the late James and Margaret Sue (Morton) Raine.

Danny attended Bellows Free Academy where he was goalie for the hockey team, a position he also held in the St. Albans Minor League feeder programs. He was an avid sports fan rooting for the New York Yankees and the Seattle Sea Hawks. He enjoyed fishing during the summer and winter on Lake Champlain.

Danny is survived by aunts, uncles, and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Daniel and Juanita Morton, and his paternal grandparents, James "Slim" Raine and Bernice Raine.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, Feb. 17, at 4 p.m. in the Heald Funeral Chapel. The Reverend Judy Kennedy, pastor of the First Congregational Church, will officiate. Interment will be this spring in the family lot in Greenwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to either Franklin County Home Health Agency, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, Vt. 05478, or Vermont Kidney Association, P.O. Box 244, Burlington, Vt. 05402-0244.

Visitation will be on Monday from 3 p.m. until the time of the funeral

Arrangements are by the Heald Funeral Home, 87 So. Main St., St. Albans.

LURA E. (GOLDSMITH) DECKER

GEORGIA -- Lura Eva (Goldsmith) Decker, age 75, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2003, at Haven Health Care in St. Albans. She was born July 20, 1927, in Saxton River, Vt., daughter of the late Charles and Winifred (Stevens) Goldsmith.

Lura married Winfred Decker, Sr. on Feb. 25, 1945, at Stuart Newton's farm in Georgia, Vt. Lura worked many dedicated years at the farm she and Winfred owned and operated. She enjoyed hunting bear and deer along Graham Lake in Otis, Maine, as well as Bald Mountain and Joy Brook in Townsend, Vt. Lura also enjoyed collecting Avon.

Known as "Gramma" by all, she was a wonderful and loving mother, living her life for the grandchildren she so loved.

She is survived by her husband, Winfred Decker, Sr. of Milton; two sons, Winfred Decker, Jr. and his wife Aleta of Jeffersonville, and Ronald Decker of Georgia; one daughter, Barbara Tetreault and her husband Normand of Burke, N.Y.; two brothers, Frank Goldsmith and his wife Nancy of Brattleboro, and Hugh Goldsmith and his wife Carolyn of Putney; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; her "adopted daughter, " Ann Harring of Chateaugay, N.Y. She was also predeceased by three brothers, Charles, Jr., Steve and Robert; one sister, Avis Dodge.

Visiting hours will be held Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003, from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Hayes-Rich Funeral Home. Funeral services will be in the spring at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions may be made in Lura's memory to the American Cancer Society, New England Division, 11 Loomis St., Montpelier, Vt., 05602.

RITA GOLDIE (LaROCHELLE) IRISH

FAIRFAX -- Rita Goldie (LaRochelle) Irish, age 83, a lifelong resident of Fairfax, passed away Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 11, 2003, at Haven Health Care in St. Albans.

She was born Aug. 26, 1919, in Fairfax, daughter of the late Wilfred Joseph and Ada (Greenia) LaRochelle.

Following her school years, she married Howard Frederick Irish who predeceased her in 1967. Rita worked for many dedicated years as a housekeeper. She loved listening to Polish and fiddle music and enjoyed spending time with friends and family playing cards.

Rita enjoyed tending to her bountiful vegetable gardens and in her later years her beautiful flower gardens. She was a loving and wonderful wife, mother, sister and friend and will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure to know and love her.

She is survived by four sons and seven daughters, Betsy Berardinelli and her husband Frank of Fletcher, Charles "Joe" Irish and Gisele Tretanier of Graniteville, Janet Carpenter of St. Albans, Marge Jagodzinski and her husband George of Stamford, Conn., Ronald Irish and his wife Barbara of Fairfax, Larry "Ike" Irish and Brenda Barkyoumb of Fairfax, Linda Turner and her husband Robert of Norwalk, Conn., Christine Williams and her husband David of Milton, Valerie Irish of Colchester, Sheila Reese and her husband Bret of Fuquay-Varina, N.C., Mark Irish and his wife Deborah of Fairfax; one brother and three sisters, Robert LaRochelle and his wife Marilyn of Enosburg, Pauline Sauve and her husband Arthur of Grand Isle, Edith Graves of Sheldon, Judith Parsons and her husband Harold "Bud" of Fairfax; 31 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also predeceased by her brother, Wilfred LaRochelle, and her sister, Martha Sweeney.

There will be no visiting hours or funeral services. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are by the Hayes-Rich Funeral Home, 1176 Main St., Fairfax.

BARBARA M. (DONALDSON) PECOR

GRAND ISLE -- Barbara M. (Donaldson) Pecor, age 80, formerly of Hog Island, Swanton, passed away early Thursday morning, Feb. 13, 2003, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington with her loving "adopted family" by her side. Barb was born Aug. 6, 1922, in Swanton, daughter of the late Harold and Maud Donaldson.

She loved to write songs (some of which were accepted under professional recording contracts), and reminisce about her children and days gone by. To us she was a jewel with many facets. She was happy, feisty, loving and witty, always ready with a giggle.

She is survived by her two children, Albert and Linda; four grandchildren, Shannon, Shawn, Gigi and Amber; four great-grandchildren; her "adopted family, " Scott, Julie, Luke and Seth Elkins and Alice Workman, all of Grand Isle with whom she lived, loved and laughed. She will be greatly missed by all of those who knew and loved her. She was also predeceased by her son, Jimmy, in 1972.

Visiting hours will be held Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. with funeral services at 2 at the Hayes-Rich Funeral Home with the Reverend Elizabeth Griffin officiating. Interment will be in the spring at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are by Hayes-Rich Funeral Home, 1176 Main St., Fairfax, Vt.
