FRANCES B. MORSE

COLCHESTER - Frances B. Morse, 86, died Saturday evening, Feb. 1, 2003 at the Green Mountain Nursing Home in Colchester.

Frances was born on Aug. 24, 1916 in North Danville, N.H., the daughter of John and Candidia ( Rosselli ) Bernaby.

On July 15, 1939, Frances married Wendell Morse in the Congregational Parsonage in Williston, Vt. Together they farmed in North Ferrisburg and in Charlotte for many years.

Mrs. Morse was also a registered nurse with the Medical Center Hospital of Vermont. Frances was a member of the Charlotte chapter of the Eastern Star, and was very involved with the 4-H, serving as project leader for many youngsters. Mrs. Morse was a Charter Member of the LaPlatt Grange in Shelburne, and was a former Ferrisburg School Director. Following retirement, she and Wendell moved to Milton in 1986.

Frances is survived by her children Thomas P. Morse and his wife, Sue, of Albuquerque, N.M., Wendell E. Morse Jr. of Lake Worth, Fla., and Margaret L. Canfield and her husband, Fred, of Essex Junction, Vt.; by 13 grandchildren, including Patrick and Shawn Thayer who lived with their grandparents and by several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband of over 62 years, Wendell Morse on Sept. 2, 2001; a daughter Carol Frances Morse on Nov. 18, 1987; her brothers Frank, John and Bill Bernaby; and her sisters Helen Lawrence and Erma Bernaby.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday Feb. 5, 2003 at 2 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton with the Rev. Jeffrey Cornwell officiating. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to either the Milton Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 15, Milton, Vt. 05468, or to the Essex Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 124, Essex Junction, Vt. 05453-0124.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 5, from noon until the hour of the funeral in the Minor Funeral Home.

LINDA JEAN BURTON TAYLOR

JEFFERSONVILLE - Linda Jean Burton Taylor, 46, of Jeffersonville died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003 at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans.

Linda was born Nov. 30, 1956 in Adams, Mass. the daughter of Walter and Constance Wells Burton. She attended Mount Mansfield Union High School and was an avid Nascar racing fan. Her favorite driver was Jeff Gordon.

Linda always enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and was a wonderful mother and grandmother who will be missed by all. We are going to be lost without her here. We love you, Mom.

She is survived by her four children, Eugene Wells Jr. and Stacy Jones of Jeffersonville, Bradley Wells and Angie Allmon of Swanton, Amy Joyal and her husband, Tim, of Bakersfield and Amber Wells and James Plantier of Jeffersonville; her grandchildren, Joshua Conner, Joseph Mann, Kenneth Wells, Seth Russin, Miranda Wells, Brooke Plantier, Olivia Wells, Madison Wells, Elainna Joyal and Devin Plantier; her companion of several years, Peter Gagnon, and his children, Samantha and Jordon of Bakersfield; her mother, Connie VanCor and her stepfather, Lawrence "Bud" VanCor of Cambridge; two sisters, Susan Preston of Swanton and Brenda Martin of Cambridge; two brothers, Michael Burton and his wife, Linda, and Timothy Burton of Cambridge; the father of her four children, Eugene Wells Sr. of Johnson; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She leaves also a very special family friend, Cecelia Wesson of Cambridge.

Linda was predeceased by her father, Walter Burton, and her sister, Penny Burton Roberts and Gram Morey.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003 at 1:30 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Burlington.

For those who wish, memorial contributions in Linda's memory may be made to the family to be used according to their wishes in care of Connie VanCor, P.O. Box 449, Cambridge, Vt. 05444

The family will receive friends on Thursday from Noon until the hour of the service in the Minor Funeral Home, Route 7 in Milton.

GEORGE EARL BRALEY

ST. ALBANS -- George Earl Braley, 70, a native of Franklin County and longtime resident of St. Albans, went home to be with his Lord on Thursday evening, Jan. 30, 2003, at Northwestern Medical Center. He was born in Fletcher March 29, 1932, the son of the late Sam and Bertha (Dunham) Braley. George married his first wife, Marion (Bell) Braley in 1974. She died in 1997.

George was a faithful member of the Northside Baptist Church and attended most of the Pastor's Conferences with Pastor Bruce. His favorite greeting was "Jesus loves you, and so do I". He had been employed at Twincraft Industries in Winooski, Vermont Republic Industries and The Marshall Center until his retirement. In the recent years he was very active in his local peer support group. For the past year he served as leader of the "Next Step" Group in St. Albans.

Survivors include his wife, Corrine (Martin) Braley, of St. Albans, whom he married in 1997, and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves special friends, Catherine Waltz and Louise Beaudoin and many other dear friends in this area. He was predeceased by his first wife, Marion (Bell) Braley, three brothers, Donald Braley, Lyndon Braley and William Braley, and two sisters, Freda Rich and Charlotte Braley.

A funeral service will be held on Monday at 4 p.m. in the Northside Baptist Church on Rt. 104 (about 1 mile south of St. Albans on the Fairfax Road). Pastor Bruce Patterson will officiate. Visitation will be in the church from 3 p.m. until the time of the service. A reception will follow in the church hall. Interment will be in the family lot in Mt. Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Friends who wish may make memorial contributions to: The Deacon's Fund of the Northside Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1044, St. Albans, VT 05478.

Arrangements are by the Heald Funeral Home, 87 So. Main St., St. Albans.

PAUL A. HAKEY

ORLANDO, Fla. / MILTON, Vt. -- Paul Andrew Hakey, 49, of Orlando Florida, formerly of Milton, died unexpectedly Wednesday evening, Jan. 29, 2003, in Orlando, Fla.

Paul was born April 13, 1953, in Colchester, the son of Charles A. and Doris M. Bean Hakey. He graduated with honors from Milton High School, Class of 1970. After graduating from the University of Vermont in 1974 with a bachelors degree in Political Science, Paul attended the University of Arizona in Tucson where he studied for a graduate degree. He worked for the Social Security Administration primarily in the Boston area for over 25 years before retiring in August of 2000.

On Sept. 14, 1979, he married Johanne Bousquet in Winthrop, Mass. In 1985 they moved to Sturbridge, Mass with their children and dogs and resided there until their move to Orlando, Fla. in September of 2002.

Paul is survived by his wife Johanne of Orlando Florida and their two children, Jeremy Hunnewell of San Diego, Calif. and Elizabeth Hakey of Orlando, Fla.; his Parents, Charles and Doris Hakey of Milton; and his mother-in-law, Gyselle Bousquet Gamelin and her husband Edward Gamelin of Estero, Fla.; his brother, Mark Hakey and his wife Louise of Fairfax; sisters, Christine Gorman and her husband William of Milton, Joyce Hakey and her husband Norm Steinhour of Fairfax; his sisters-in-law, Danielle Dalk of Burlington, Louise Becker and her husband Robert of Colorado Springs, Colo., Francine Jones and her husband Steven of North Andover, Mass; and Michelle Latorre and her husband Charlie of Estero, Fla.; as well as several nieces, nephews, uncles and aunts.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, Feb. 4, at 10 am in Holy Cross Catholic Church in Colchester by Father Roger Charbonneau. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery.

may be made either to the American Diabetes Association, Vermont Affiliate, Inc., 77 Hegeman Avenue, Colchester, Vt. 05446, or to the Orlando Humane Society, 2727 Conroy Road, Orlando, FL 32839.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, Feb. 3, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home Milton.

ANITA F. LaFLAM

SWANTON - Anita F. Laflam, 70, a resident of Swanton for the past 34 years and the wife of Earl J. LaFlam of 50 years, died late Thursday afternoon, Jan. 30, 2003, in The Burlington Health and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born in Charlotte, Aug. 3, 1932, the daughter of the late W. Maxwell and Aldena J. (Aube) Bishop. She attended schools in Charlotte and The Burlington Business College of Vermont, and on May 30, 1952, married Earl J. LaFlam who survives her.

A devoted wife, mother and grandmother Mrs. LaFlam was also a member of the University of Vermont Home Demonstration Group and a parishioner of The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

In addition to her husband Earl J. LaFlam of Swanton, Anita leaves three daughters and their husband, Linda and Terry Callan of Swanton, Karen and Paul Daniel of St. Albans and Lisa and Jay Tilton of Bakersfield; three sons and their wives, Randall and Doreen LaFlam of Swanton, Mark and Karen LaFlam of Swanton and Reggie and Judy LaFlam of St. Mary, Ohio; two sisters, Corinne Bishop of Jericho and Maxine Bishop of Virginia; one brother Roger Bishop and his wife Zoya of Florida; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Evelyn Bishop of Sheldon; fifteen grandchildren, Scott Smith, Amy Warner, Bradley Daniel, Jason LaFlam, Sarah LaFlam, Jessi LaFlam, Ashley LaFlam, Katie LaFlam, Corey LaFlam, Shawn Benoit, Jamie Benoit, Josh Tilton, Jennifer Tilton, Jason Tilton and Chris Tilton; four great grandchildren, Devin Warner, Elaina Genson, Jayden Tilton and Jazmyn Tilton as well as many nieces and nephews.

Anita was predeceased by a grandson, Bryan Daniel on May 16, 1998 and a brother Russell Bishop in 1999.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, at 10 a.m. at The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 65 Canada Street, Swanton. Father Marcel Rainville, SSE, from the Office of Campus Ministry at St. Michael's College will be the celebrant and homilist. Interment will follow in the LaFlam family lot in St. Mary's Cemetery. Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton on today, Feb. 3, 2003, from 4 to 8 p.m.

Gifts in Mrs. LaFlam's memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association of Vermont, 77 Hegeman Avenue, Colchester 05446.

LILLIAN ADELINE LAPAN

EAST HIGHGATE -- Lillian Adeline (Bushey) Lapan, 70, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday afternoon, March 26, 2003, at her home surrounded by her loving family and friends. She was born in Cambridge, March 15, 1933, the daughter of the late Eugene and Susie (Laplant) Bushey.

On June 2, 1951, in St. Louis Roman Catholic Church in Highgate Center she married Lawrence Lapan who survives her.

In addition to her husband of 51 years and nine months, Lawrence "Sparky" Lapan of East Highgate, Lillian leaves her daughter, Maria Bessette and her husband Scott and their children, Shay and Miranda, five sons, Jack Lapan and his wife Tammy and their children, Carrie, Jason and Matthew, Lawrence Lapan Jr. and his wife Laurie and their children, Melanie and Lawrence (Bear) Lapan III, James Lapan and his wife Susan and their daughters, Michelle and Melissa, Ernest Lapan and his wife April and their sons, Ryan Bilado and Eric Raymond; also a special foster son of 48 years, Allen Locke and his girlfriend Swan of Adams, Mass., as well as two great-granddaughters, Savanna McDade and Abigail Rose Lapan Leach. She also leaves her sister, Rita L'Esperance and her husband Gerard and Gail of St. Albans; one sister-in-law, Dorcus Bushey of Sheldon; three brothers and their wives, Raymond and Carolyn Bushey of Sheldon, Louis and JoAnn Bushey of St. Albans and Robert Bushey and his friend Marguerite of Sheldon and Richard "Hucky" Burnor, (who is like a brother), of Jeffersonville; along with many nieces and nephews and very special friends, Dicky and Charlene Young and the Rosie and Raymond Salter family.

Lillian was predeceased by her little angels, granddaughter, Christina Lapan and grandson, Jack Jr., as well as a sister, Laura Mae "Tootie" Taylor and brother, Joseph Eugene Bushey.

She was a longtime member of the Women of the Moose 391 St. Albans and the Abenaki Nation of Vermont.

Lillian will always be remembered as a most loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. There are no words to explain or describe the inspiration that she has been to so many people. She was the most special and wonderful women in the world and has left us all with an everlasting love.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, March 29, 2003, at 11 a.m. from St. Louis Roman Catholic Church, Lamkin Street, Highgate Center. The pastor, Father John J. Meagher, SSE will be the celebrant and homilist. Interment will follow in the Lapan family lot in St. Louis Cemetery. Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton on Friday, March 28, 2003, from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Gifts in Mrs. Lapan's memory may be made to the Northwestern Medical Center, Jim Bashaw Memorial Trust, P.I. Dept., PO Box 1370, St. Albans, Vt. 05478.

Following the services family and friends are all invited to a luncheon reception to be served at Lillian's late home on Vermont Route 78 in East Highgate.

WILLIAM E. McDONALD

GEORGIA -- William E. McDonald, 70, of Georgia, passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2003, at the Holmes Regional Hospital in Melbourne, Fl. due to complications following a stroke. Bill was born at home in Grand Isle on Jan. 16, 1933, the son of Henry William and Grace L. Martell McDonald. He attended Milton High School. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict.

On June 8, 1951, he married Nancy Barrows in Milton. She predeceased him on Jan. 8, 1999. He worked as a self employed contractor and excavator for many years. Bill loved riding his Harley. He was known as "Biker Bill, " enjoying many road trips both in New England and Florida, he made many friends along the way. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his mother, Grace McDonald of Milton; and his children, Brent McDonald and his companion, Windee Kaiser of St. Albans, Kim McDonald and her companion, Joseph D'Arezzo of Providence, RI., Craig McDonald and his companion, Valerie Young of Fairfax and Lisa Roque and her husband, John of Highgate; his grandchildren, Vicki McDonald and her companion, Todd Langlois, Steven McDonald and his wife Kathy, Danielle McDonald and her mother Diane Ruhl and Asia and Austin Roque; his great-grandchildren, Jordan and Jasmine Francis, Bailie and Brennan McDonald; his mother-in-law, Alberta Barrows; sister-in-law, Patricia Desjardin and her husband Bill; special in-laws, Ila Barrows and Paula and Larry Wilcox; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife of over 48 years, Bill was also predeceased by his father Henry, and his brother Robert.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 1, 2003, at 10 a.m. in the Minor Funeral Home with Pastor Kim Ransom officiating. Burial will be held later in the week in St. Ann's Cemetery.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, March 31, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home, Route 7 Milton.
