NELLIE (BURNOR) WEBB

FAIRFAX -- Nellie (Burnor) Webb, age 81, passed away in the early morning hours of Saturday, March 8, 2003, at Copley Manor Nursing Home in Morrisville. She was born in Fairfield on Oct. 10, 1921, daughter of the late Henry and Anne (Adams) Burnor.

In 1946, while working as the town clerk for Fairfield for many years, she met the love of her life, J. Douglas Webb while recording a partial deed to the Webb family farm. On Labor Day, Sept. 6, 1948, they were joined in marriage in East Fairfield.

Together they raised their family on their Fairfax farm, peacefully nestled in the luscious green hills of Vermont. Nellie was a genuine "farmer's wife, " committed to their family and dedicated to their farming business. Somehow she found the time to give back to the Fairfax community she loved so much, volunteering as chairperson of the Fairfax Planning Commission. She was a dedicated volunteer for the Franklin County Field Days.

Supporting their own sugar making operation, she was an invaluable volunteer, holding several positions including past chairperson of the largely attended Vermont Maple Festival in St. Albans. There, as an excellent baker (never using a measuring cup), she introduced a delicacy of homemade donuts, glazed with her own tasty maple cream recipe. These mouth watering treats are still requested year after year at the festival and widely known as "Nellie's Donuts."

She remained a committed, dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many until afflicted with her illness in 1990. The family would like to sincerely thank Copley Manor staff for their loving care and personal attentions during her stay. Nellie will be well remembered for her community involvement, family and farm commitment and unconditional love for all.

She is survived by her husband, J. Douglas Webb of Fairfax; two sons, James "Jim" Douglas Webb, II of Fairfax, and Dale S. Webb of Fairfax; one daughter, Linda Willmott and her husband, Dennis, of Jericho; one brother, George Burnor and his wife, Joan, of Fairfield; four grandchildren, Garrett and Brooke Webb, and Daniel and Stephanie Willmott; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also predeceased by two brothers and two sisters.

Visiting hours will be held on today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hayes-Rich Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 11, 2003, at the United Church of Fairfax with the Reverend Elizabeth Griffin officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot in Fairfax Plains Cemetery.
