BRENT LEE BAKER

ST. ALBANS -- Brent Lee Baker passed away March 1, 2003, at the Haven Health Care Nursing Home in St. Albans after having fought liver disease for several years. Brent was born in Montgomery Center on April 26, 1954, the only son of the late Gordon "Gudgin" and Estelle (Lamore) Baker.

He attended Montgomery Center school and graduated from Enosburg Falls High School in 1972. Although Brent's dad passed away when Brent was only 13, he enjoyed reminiscing about the time that they spent together fishing, walking in the woods, and working together in Pudvah's store. Brent was very proud of being "from Montgomery" and often joked that you can't keep anyone from there down for long!

At the age of 45, Brent became a father for the first time when his son, Ethan Lee Baker, was born on June 30, 1999. When he married Ethan's mother, Laurie in September of 1999, his family became complete. Being a husband and father brought Brent to a place of happiness and contentment in his life. Although their time together has been short, and Ethan is young, they have shared many of the same things that Brent enjoyed with his father. They have enjoyed fishing, camping, swimming, walks in the woods while Brent explained plants, trees and animal tracks. Even as an infant, Ethan and Brent enjoyed staring up at the sky and watching the stars and the moon. Ethan will now look to the sky to see his dad as one of those shining stars! Brent was a great father in the time he was given to be one.

Besides his son, Ethan Lee Baker, he is survived by his wife, Laurie (Patterson) Fletcher-Baker, both of St. Albans; his step-daughters, Codie and Kristi Fletcher, both of St. Albans, of who helped care for Ethan above and beyond that of sister's duty while Brent was ill, as did his niece, Amy Bartlett. He also leaves two half-sisters, Carol Raine and her husband, Leo, of St. Albans, and B. Jean Baker and her husband, Kenneth, of Burlington, Mass.; his "sister", Linda Bartlett of St. Albans; several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. He also leaves his former wife, Lucinda (Juaire) Baker; his in-laws, Wally and Veronica Patterson of Enosburg Falls, who were very supportive of their daughter during this time; his sister-in-law, Lisa Patterson of Enosburg Falls; his brothers-in-law, Steve Patterson and his wife, Cheryl, and Stuart "Scoot" Patterson and his friend Audrey, all of Richford.

Besides his parents and grandparents he was predeceased by his half-sister and her husband, Helen (Baker) and Gilbar and Sherman J. Gilbar Sr.; three nephews, Mark and Dale Gilbar and Terry Baker; a niece, Candace Gilbar; also several aunts, and uncles, including his special aunt, Lorenza (Lamore) Sargent.

The family would like to thank Doctors Mark Silverstein and Edward Krawitt for their support and care, as well as the nurses and doctors at Northwestern Medical Center and Fletcher Allen Health Care. Brent and Laurie also want to thank all their friends and acquaintances who helped by stopping by to offer help with child care, running errands, and just being there with their love and support, especially long time friends Ted and Kathy Whitney, Ernie Erno, Dan and Deb Peters, Cathy Morse, and Martha Desrochers, as well as Jennifer Bailey and Ryan Raine.
