WOODBURY E. "WOODY" ROUSE, SR.

HIGHGATE CENTER -- Woodbury "Woody" Rouse, Sr., 73, a lifelong Highgate resident, died suddenly Wednesday evening, April 23, 2003, in his Highgate Road home.

Woody was born in Highgate, Feb. 11, 1930, the son of the late Edward Rouse and Anna Averill He graduated from Highgate High School and attended the University of Vermont. On June 6, 1953, he married the former Alice Cyr, who survives him.

He faithfully served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and following his discharge from the Army became a member of the Vermont National Guard commanding a tank platoon in his hometown of Highgate. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Charles DaPrato Post 778 in Swanton, and the American Legion, Green Mountain Post 1, in St. Albans. Woody is certainly best remembered for 49 years of organization and leadership of Highgate's Annual Memorial Day Parade.

An active member of his community Woody served on the Highgate High School, School Board, Highgate Planning Commission, Highgate Historical Society, and served as the Town Health Officer. He also belonged to the I.O.O.F and was elevated to the level of Grand Patriarch and served in the Vermont Past Officers Association. He was also a member of the Hi-Swans Senior Citizen, Loyal Order of Moose 1090 in St. Albans, and 76 Lodge F&AM in Swanton.

Woody enjoyed building dollhouses, relaxing around his pool, collecting model trains, and especially having his children and grandchildren around him.

In addition to his wife, Alice, of nearly 50 years, he leaves his son, Woodbury E. Rouse, Jr. and his wife, Carol; three daughters, Paulette Unwin and her husband, David, Deborah Rouse and her friend Stanley Stewart and Linda Turner and her husband, David, all of Highgate Center; seven grandchildren, Melissa Miner and friend Mark Gover, David Rouse and wife, Tammy, Emily Morris, Tiffany Turner, Hayley Turner, Sara Rouse and Krista Middleton and husband, Skip; three great grandchildren, Jonathan Rouse, Amber Bishop and Conor Middleton.

Woody also leaves two sisters and one brother, Louise Coffey and her husband, Jim, of Islip, N.H., Sally Perkins and her husband, Mike, of Illinois and John Rouse of Newport. Also surviving are his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Stanley Cokkinis of Bonita, Calif., Gisele Nolan of St. Albans, Jayne Grenon and friend Chuck of Michigan, Pauline Lhipko of Newfoundland, Marie-Paul and Leo Verville, of Bedford, P.Q., Roland and Claire Audette of Bedford, Urbain Ponton and friend Louise of Ste. Jean sur Richiliere, P.Q. Thomas Santor of British Columbia and Walter Lhipko as well as many nieces and nephews.

Woody was predeceased by a grandson, John Miner in 1991; a sister, Marcella Cokkinis; a brother, Joseph Rouse; a sister-in-law, Jacqueline Santor; and a brother-in-law George Wesley Nolan.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, April 28, 2003, at 2 p.m. from the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton. The Reverend Marcheta Townsend, pastor of The Highgate United Methodist Church will officiate. Interment will follow in the family lot in St. Louis Cemetery. Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home on Sunday, April 27, 2003, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

The family has requested that flowers be omitted. Gift's in Woody's memory may be made to the Highgate Volunteer Fire Department, Highgate Center, Vermont 05459.

ARMAND L. CYR

ST. ALBANS/ENGLEWOOD, Fla. - Armand L. Cyr, 85, of Englewood, Fla. died April 15, 2003 at Englewood Hospital.

Born Sept. 5, 1917 in Bedford, Quebec, son of the late Leopold and Olive (Trahan) Cyr, he was a resident of Englewood for 14 years and a summer resident of Lapan Bay, St. Albans. He moved to Florida from Enfield, Conn.

Mr. Cyr retired in 1980 after 30 years as a machinist at Hamilton Standard in Windsor Lock, Conn. He served in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper in the 101st and 82nd Airborne in Germany, World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Pauline (Lavoie) Cyr of Englewood; son Michael and wife, Joyce, of Enfield, Conn.; daughter Joyce and husband, William Wilkes, of South Hampton, Mass.; four grandchildren, Jason and Jennifer Cyr and Jessica and Shannon Wilkes.

He leaves three brothers, one sister, and a stepbrother: Raymond Cyr of Enfield, Roland and Rene Cyr of St. Albans, Lauretta Perron of Essex Jct. and step-brother Oscar Cyr of North Carolina. Predeceased family members are: Bertha Rock, Mary Lamothe, Marcel Cyr, Lee Cyr, Mary Paul Cyr, Norman Cyr and Rachel Cyr.

A Memorial Mass was held at St. Francis Church, Thursday, April 24. Cremation by James McGee handled the arrangements.

ADRIENNE S. CHARBONNEAU

SWANTON, Vt./ AMARILLO, Texas -- Adrienne S, Charbonneau, 91, a former longtime resident of Swanton and a current resident of Satellite Beach, Fla., died Monday, April 14, 2003, in Amarillo, Texas where she was visiting.

She was born in St. Sebastien, Quebec on June 8, 1911, the daughter of the late Theopile Ste Marie and Rose Emma (Lajeunesse) Ste Marie.

She graduated from the Sacred Heart Academy in Newport and the Fanny Allen Scholl of Nursing in Colchester. She was married on May 24, 1933, to Eugene Charbonneau, who predeceased her on Aug. 17, 1995. Together, they owned and operated the Swanton Supermarket. Adrienne also was a Registered Nurse at the St. Albans Hospital and Kerbs Memorial Hospital until her retirement.

She was a long time communicant of The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary and a member of the Ladies of St. Anne.

Mrs. Charbonneau leaves her daughter, Theresa Charbonneau Arias, of Satellite Beach, Fla.; her son and daughter in-law, Maurice and Pauline (Lacoste) Charbonneau of Amarillo, Texas; her sister, Jeanette Ducharme of Granby, Quebec; her brother, Lionel Ste Marie, of St. Augustine, Fla.; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, two sisters and a grandson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, April 26, 2003, at 11 a.m. from The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Swanton. Father Peter Routhier, Mrs. Charbonneau's nephew and pastor of St. Monica's Roman Catholic Parish in Barre, will be the celebrant and homilist. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton on Friday, April 25, 2003, from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 9 to 10:30 a.m.

Gifts in Mrs. Charbonneau's memory may be made to Franklin County Home Health Hospice, 3 Home Health Circle, Suite 1, St. Albans, Vt. 05478, or as Mass offerings.

GLORIA R. LAROE

ST. ALBANS/SWANTON -- A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated for Mrs. Gloria R. Laroe on Tuesday at 10 a.m. in Holy Angels Church. Father Maurice Roy was the celebrant. Sister Cecile LeBeau read the Holy Scripture Lessons. Altar servers were Maynard Gosselin and Russell Porwitzky. Mary Jo Gillilan was the organist and soloist.

On behalf of her family, daughter-in-law Lisa Laroe shared fond memories of Gloria with the congregation. Father Roy read a special poem, for the family, entitled "To My Husband."

Representatives attending were from Franklin County Home Health Agency, American Legion Post 1, and Auxiliary Unit 1, former Cornerstone Restaurant staff, J.W. Ryan's, Subway, Immigration and Naturalization Services, I.B.M., Tom Hungerford Insurance, Clarence Brown's Fuel Distributors, Peoples Trust Bank, Handy's Auto Dealerships, Hackett, Valine and McDonald's, Kathleen Howrigan Real Estate, Cioffi Real Estate, St. Albans Theater and Drive In, Vermont Energy Corp., Hemond Construction and residents of the Four Winds Housing.

Bearers were her son-in-law Dennis DeLong, brother-in-law Al McDonald, nephews Michael Gosselin and Craig Casperson, friends Alan Boulerice and Michael Toof.

Following Prayers of Committal by Father Roy, interment was in the Laroe family lot in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Monday evening Father Roy held a Christian Wake Service with the family and friends in the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.

NOELLA THERESA RAYMOND

SWANTON -- Mrs. Noella Theresa Raymond, 64, died early Monday morning, April 21, 2003, at her home on Jones Court in Swanton Village. Noella was born in Sheldon, Nov. 11, 1938, the daughter of the late, Hubert and Rose (Bourgeois) Smith. She attended schools in Berkshire and in 1958 was married to Alcide Berger who predeceased her in 1970. In 1973 she married Bruce Raymond who also predeceased her in 1997.

A lifelong resident of the St. Albans and Swanton areas, Noella has resided with her daughter and son-in-law in Swanton for the past several years. Earlier she had worked as a seamstress for Martin Linens.

She will always be remembered for her love of camping, playing cards, shopping, strawberry milkshakes, her devoted pet Sasha and just being with her family.

Noella is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Rita and Reginald Beliveau, Jr., of Swanton and Suzanne and Tony Conner of Highgate; one son, Philip Berger of Burlington; two sisters, Eva Rheaume and her husband, Hubert, of Georgia and Mary St. Pierre of Fairfield; one brother, Lionel Smith of Fairfax; three grandchildren, Reginald Beliveau III of Carmel, N.Y. and Nathan and Danielle Beliveau of Swanton; one great-grandson, Kyle Beliveau of Carmel, N.Y.; as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husbands, Noella was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph and Noel Smith; and two sisters, Virginia Desrocher and Alice Desrocher; and a very close friend, Dorcas Phillips.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, April 25, 2003, at 11 a.m. from The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 65 Canada St. Swanton. The pastor, Father John J. Meagher SSE, will be the celebrant and homilist. Interment will follow in the Berger family lot in Mount Calvary Cemetery in St. Albans City. Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton, Thursday, April 24, 2003, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Gifts in Noella's memory may be made to the Swanton Village Fire Department, C/O Star Hose Company, P.O. Box 279, Swanton, Vt. 05488, or to Franklin County Home Health Agency, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, Vt. 05478.

Noella's family wishes to give special thanks to Sue and Douglas from the Franklin County Home Health Agency, John from Merriam Graves, Linda Young from Silhouette Design for the many years she has taken care of Noella's hair and Linda Prouty for all of her support and assistance during Noella's final days.

RALPH F. CROSS

ST. ALBANS/FORT WORTH, TEXAS -- Mr. Ralph F. Cross, age 79, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002, in a Fort Worth, Texas hospital. Ralph was born in St. Albans June 14, 1923, son of the late Fredrick and Edith (Prue) Cross.

Mr. Cross proudly served his country for 27 years. During the years from 1941 to 1983 he served in the U.S. Army, receiving the Bronze Star, Combat Medic Award and several other commendations. He also served with the Vermont National Guard.

He retired as an administrator for the State of Vermont, Department of Corrections. Ralph had a great love for baseball and his New York Yankees team. He greatly enjoyed being active in his community, wherever he was residing. Ralph was a member of the American Legion, Green Mountain Post 1, and the V.F.W., Robert E. Glidden Post 758, the Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge 1090, and B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge, 1566, all in St. Albans.

Ralph married Naoma Bertrand Sept. 21, 1946, and they spent their retirement summers in St. Albans and Alburg, and winter months in the Forth Worth, Texas area.

He is survived by his loving wife of over 56 years, Naoma; their children and spouses, Robert and Elaine Cross of Edge Cliff, Texas, Skip Cross and his longtime friend Erica Melanio of Denver, Pa., Jean and John Gebhard of Willow Street, Pa., Becki and Ray Wonnacott of Alburg; three grandchildren, Gina Italiano, Eric Gebhard and Wendy Cannan; one great-grandson, Gavin Gebhard; sisters, Katherine Cross of Swanton, Eileen Gray of Matthews, N.C., and a brother, Richard Cross of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; five nieces and nephews; and numerous friends, both in Vermont and Texas. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 26, 2003, at 10 a.m. in the Brady & Levesque Chapel, 86 South Main St., St. Albans. There will be no public calling hours. Interment, with full military honors, will follow at the Cross family gravesite in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.

JOYCE E. ROBERGE

MILTON -- Joyce E. Roberge, 60 died early Sunday evening April 20, 2003 at her home in Milton following a long illness. Joyce was born at the Fanny Allen Hospital in Colchester on May 6, 1942, the daughter of Merle and Della ( Wagner ) Burnor.

On Nov. 19, 1960, Joyce married Lawrence Roberge in St. Luke's Catholic Church in Fairfax. She and Lawrence have lived in Milton since 1964. Joyce was a homemaker most of her life. She enjoyed crocheting and going on snowmobile rides.

She is survived by her husband, Lawrence Roberge, of Milton; by her daughter, Laura Lee Gingras; her grandchildren Kristina, Luke and Josh Gingras; her brother, Lloyd Burnor, and his wife, Barbara, of Morrisville; her sisters Ramona Rice and her husband, Tom, of Hardwick and Myrtle Miller of Hyde Park; by several brother and sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also survived by her best friend Emma Michaud of Milton. She was predeceased by her brothers Burt and Bernard Burnor.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, April 23, 2003, at 11 a.m. in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton. Burial will follow in the Milton Village Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held this evening from 7-9 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton.

ALFRED N. DAVIS

RICHFORD/LINCOLN, MAINE -- Alfred N. Davis, age 86, died Sunday, April 20, 2003, at a Lincoln health care facility. He was born in Richford, Oct. 30, 1916, the son of the late Madison James and Myrtle May (Monteith) Davis.

Alfred was a resident of Lincoln, Maine since 1941 where he worked for Atlas Plywood. He convinced Atlas Plywood to buy a bulldozer for him to operate until he could start his own business. Shortly thereafter, Alfred started his own construction business, and owned and operated several types of heavy equipment, including cranes of various sizes. He worked on the Bomarc Missile Base, the Cutler Naval Base Communication Center, as well as several other Maine area projects.

He is survived by his beloved companion, Hilda Washburn of Lincoln, Maine; a nephews, Robert Holland and his wife, Leslie, of Tennants Harbor, and their son, Morgan, of North Attleboro, Mass.; a niece, Phyllis Hopkins and her family of Rochester, N.Y.; and several cousins, including Hugh Smith and Russell Davis, both of Richford. He was predeceased by a son, Madison Davis, and a sister, Harriet (Davis) Holland.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 26, 2003, at 2 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 140 Main St., Richford. Interment will follow in the Richford Center Cemetery.
