JAMES M. BESSETTE

HIGHGATE CENTER/SHELDON -- Mr. James M. Bessette, age 72, died Saturday, May 17, 2003, in the Fletcher Allen Health Care Center with his loving family at his bedside. Jim was born in St. Albans Oct. 1, 1930, son of the late Carlton C. and Frances (Laroe) Bessette.

He was activated with the Vermont National Guard in 1950 and served in the U.S. Army. Jim was a contractor and carpenter. he had been a brakeman for the Central Vermont Railway for over 20 years, and later employed by the U.S. Contractors, in Pensacola, Fla., for 12 years. Jim was a member of the American Legion, Green Mountain Post 1 in St. Albans.

He married Rita Gonyeau Aug. 29, 1980. Besides his wife, Rita, he is survived by his children, Michael and his wife Ardelle Bessette of Sheldon, Merrilyn Stoddard of St. Albans; his step-son, James and his wife Judy Coon of Portland, Maine; eight grandchildren, Shannon Bessette, Courtney Bessette, Jason Stoddard, Kimberly Coon, Matthew Coon, Nathan Coon, and Travis Minkler; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Rhoda LaRocque of Swanton, Mildred and her husband Gerard Rocheleau of St. Albans Town, Marion and her husband Wayne Young of Highgate Center; a brother-in-law, Gerald Gonyeau and his wife Madeline of Monks Corner, S.C.; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Marlene Bessette, at age 14 months, in 1952; and by three brothers, Clayton Bessette, Harold Bessette, Leon Bessette; and his sister, Carolina Bliss.

No public funeral services are planned.

Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Vermont Lung Association, 30 Farrell Street, South Burlington, Vt. 05403.

Interment will be in the Bessette family lot in Greenwood Cemetery.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.

MARIE REINE BEAUREGARD

ST. ALBANS / NORTHAMPTON, Mass. -- Marie Reine Beauregard, 98, a former Huntington Street resident, passed away early Wednesday, May 14, 2003, in the Linda Manor Nursing Facility in Leeds, Mass. She was born Dec. 6, 1904, in Lowell, Mass., the daughter of the late Pierre and Hermeni (Archambault) Fontaine. On Sept. 1, 1923, in Winooski, she married Arthur G. Beauregard, who predeceased her on Oct. 3, 1980.

She was a communicant of Holy Angles Parish and a member of L'Union St. Jean Baptiste Society.

Survivors include her three sons, Lawrence G. Beauregard and his wife, Silvia, of Miami, Fla., Joseph R. Beauregard, MD and his wife, Barbara, of Bonita Springs, Fla., and Raymond L. Beauregard and his wife, Dorothy, of Rockville, Md.; her grandchildren, Michael Beauregard of South Windsor, Conn., John Beauregard of Potomac, Md., Steve Beauregard and Robert Beauregard both of Malibu, Calif., Susan (Beauregard) Ebol of Santa Ana, Calif., Patricia (Beauregard) Biamonte of Apex, N.C., Larry Beauregard and Annette (Beauregard) Howe, both of Miami, Fla.; her, step- grandchildren, Ellen (Read) Davis of Evergreen, Colo., Jodi (Read) Petkovich, of Leesburg, Va., David Read of Bonita Springs, Fla., Edward Read of Waitsfield, Vt., and Daniel Read of Littleton, Colo.; 19 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be announced at a later date. Interment will be in the Beauregard family lot in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis Tenn. 38105-1905, or the Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children, 51 Blossom Street, Boston, Mass. 02114.

Arrangements are by the Heald Funeral Home, 87 So. Main St., St. Albans.

ANNETTE B. (PELLETIER) LOYER

HIGHGATE CENTER -- Annette B. (Pelletier) Loyer, 64, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 14, 2003, in the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility with her daughters by her side.

Annette was born in Swanton, Nov. 4, 1938, the daughter of the late Albert and Blanche (Godbout) Pelletier.

She retired from Eveready Battery Company after 32 years and prior to that, worked at Fonda Container Corporation.

Annette's greatest joy in life was time spent with her grandchildren and family. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, reading, puzzles and collecting antiques and coins. Sunday afternoons were spent watching the NASCAR Winston Cup Race cheering for Jeff Gordon with her cat Sooty.

Annette is survived by her three daughters, Lynn Barrows and her husband Kevin of South Hero, Jill Walker and her husband Kevin of Litchfield, N.H. and Cassie Bombard and her husband Rick of South Burlington; her loving grandchildren, Derek Barrows, Nicholas, Letitia, Keenan and Garrett Walker and Ryan Bombard. She also leaves her siblings, Carmen Morrison of East Granby, Conn., Gilberte Callan and her husband Ray of Fairfield, Solange Pelletier of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Donald Pelletier of Hartland, Conn., Marie Allaire and her husband Real of St. Albans, Maurice Pelletier and his wife Joyce of South Burlington, Rita DesLauriers of Williston and Lorraine Wry and her companion Larry Reynolds of Bristol.

She was predeceased by her sister, Florence, her brother Paul and her longtime companion Joe Desorcie.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, May 24, 2003, at 11 a.m. from the family lot in St. Anthony's Cemetery in Sheldon Springs.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Missisquoi Valley Rescue, P.O. Box 22, Swanton 05488.

Following the services, Annette's family would like to invite everyone to a reception to celebrate Annette's life at the home of Real and Marie Allaire on Fairfax Street in St. Albans City.

Arrangements have been under the direction of The Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton, Vermont.

ROBERT W. NOLAN

ST. ALBANS -- Mr. Robert W. Nolan, age 67, died Wednesday, May 14, 2003, at his home with his loving family by his bedside, following an extended illness. He was born in St. Albans Nov. 24, 1935, son of the late George and Marguerite (Pearo) Nolan.

He was employed in custodial care at UVM for 17 years and later a truck operator for Dowlings for mre than seven years. Bob later became a part time checker at Blouin's I.G.A. Robert proudly served his country for over 43 years in the Vermont National Guard, retiring in 1995. He was a member of the American Legion Post 1 and the Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge 1090.

He married Shirley Murray, Sept. 20, 1958. Besides his wife he is survived by two children, Michael Nolan and his fiancée, Shannon Lowery of Westford, and Melissa and her husband, Kevin Machia, of St. Albans; a brother, Richard Nolan of Devis, Fla.; four granddaughters, Jessica Machia, Maria Machia, Cooper Nolan, and Kiely Nolan; his mother-in-law, Helen Lampman; sister-in-law, Gisele Nolan of St. Albans; brother-in-law, Alton Collins of Enosburgh; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Robert Nolan, Jr., Nov. 7, 1993; his parents, George and Marguerite Nolan; his siblings, Charlene Brennan, Pauline Laverdure, Norma Collins, George Wesley Nolan, Jr.; and a very dear friend, Harold "Red" Lapan.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 1 p.m. in Holy Angels Church. Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 S. Main St., from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.Interment with full military honors will be in the Nolan family lot in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Hospice Program of the Franklin County Home Health Agency, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, Vt. 05478.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.

NORBERT PAUL BERGERON

RICHFORD / ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Norbert Paul Bergeron, 74, of 577 Jay Road, Richford, was unexpectedly called to his heavenly home on May 6, 2003, in Calhoun Falls, S.C. where he was spending time camping and enjoying his children. He was born in Franklin on April 11, 1929, the son of the late Phillip and Bernadette (Larose) Bergeron.

He was a member of All Saints Catholic Church in Richford and also attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church in St. Petersburg, Fla. He was a representative of FMO in St. Petersburg and was a board member and very active in the Tropical Garden RO Association where he enjoyed the winter months. Norbert was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather who was always there for his family whenever needed. He gave us all the gift of love and encouragement. He loved people and never met a stranger. He loved the peace and tranquillity of walking in the woods.

He was a farmer and was owner/operator of a logging business for over 40 years. After retirement he worked several summers operating heavy equipment for various construction companies in Vermont and New Hampshire. Norbert is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Katherine (Wing) Bergeron.

He is also survived by his three daughters and their husbands, Claudette "Polly" and Leo Gendron, Jennifer and Dale Tessier, and Jilda and Danny Vermillion, all of Donalds, S.C.; grandchildren, including Jaime, Shannon, Katie, Kailey, Matthew Tessier, Courtney, Amber and Abigail Juliette Vermillion. He leaves his brothers and their wives, Lawrence and Solange Bergeron of Plattsburg, N.Y., Albert and Ann Desrochers of Franklin, Marcel and Gail Bergeron of Fairport, N.Y., and Dennis and Shirley Bergeron of Torrington, Conn.; his sisters and their husbands, Veronica and Emile Larose of Ganesvoort, N.Y., Patricia and Cecil Greenwood of Torrington, Conn., and Annicette and George LaCoste of Sheldon; and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves a special friend, Mike Daudelin of Richford, who was like a son to him. He was predeceased by a brother, John Bergeron and a sister, Ginette Bergeron.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on May 10, in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Abbeville, S.C. A graveside committal service will be held Monday, May 19, at 11 a.m. in the Richford Center Cemetery with the Rev. Frank Eksterowicz officiating.

FRANK ALBERT CASS

SWANTON - Frank Albert Cass passed away after a brief illness on May 11, 2003. He was born in Danville on Dec. 11, 1912, to Gladys (Emerson) and Horace Cass, who predeceased him.

Frank was self-employed most of his adult life as a farmer and salesman in his early years and later in woodworking, construction and various other activities mostly in Newbury, Hardwick, and Richford. He was also known locally for his poetry and letters to the editor.

He is survived by his wife, Alice Lariviere Martin Cass of Brownway in Enosburg; his step-daughter, Suzanne Hull of Montana; his daughter, Jean Vanslette and her husband, Eric, of Swanton; and his grandson, David and his wife, Dorothy, of St. Albans.

He is also survived by his step-grandchildren, Neil Vanslette, Sara Duranleau and her husband, Jason, and Pamela Hull, James and Darlene Hull, and their children, and Alice's three grandchildren in California.

His siblings that survive him are Richard and his wife, Ester, Winton and his wife, Dorothy, all of California, William and his wife, Marilyn, of Massachusetts, Margaret Springer and her husband, Lewis, of Danville, Barbara Henderson of Newbury, his sisters-in-law Gloria Cass of Chester and Sharon Cass of Washington; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his son, Daniel, in 1964; his first wife, Katherine Martin Cass in 1968; and his step-son Roger Martin in 1995.

There will be no calling hours. A brief memorial will be held later at the family's convenience. No flowers please. Contributions may be made to Missisquoi Valley Rescue in Swanton, or your local food shelf.

SISTER MARGARET GOLDSBURY, CND

WILTON, Conn. -- Sister Margaret Goldsbury, CND, known in religion as Sr St Margaret Carola, died at Lourdes Health Care Center, May 11, 2003, at the age of 71.

Sister Margaret was born in St. Albans on April 20, 1932, daughter of the late Carroll W. and Emma (Laflamme) Goldsbury. She completed her elementary and high school education in St. Albans, received a BA from Trinity College in Burlington, and an MA from Catholic University in Washington, D.C. She spent a year of study in Ontario, Canada, where she received training in spiritual direction and later studied Jungian Psychology in Zurich, Switzerland.

Sister Margaret made first profession of vows in the Congregation of Notre Dame of Montreal in August of 1958, and final vows in August of 1964. She taught at Stamford Catholic High from 1958 to 1964 and Villa Maria Academy from 1965 to 1969. She served as director of novice for the Congregation from 1969 to 1975. She engaged in the ministry of spiritual direction and retreats beginning in 1977 at the Diocesan Spiritual Life Center in Pawtucket, R.I. and continuing at Our Lady of Peace Retreat House in Narragansett, R.I. from 1979 to 1995, where she was director for seven years. She served as program director at Ursuline Retreat House, Blue Point, N.Y. in 1995 to 1996. She resided in New Rochelle, N.Y. and Stamford, Conn. until going to Lourdes Health Care Center in Wilton, Conn. in August of 2001.

She is survived by three sisters, Esther Fregeau of St. Albans, Evelyn Bissonnette of Burlington, and Irene Bouchard of Derby; as well as several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 14, 2003, at 4:15 p.m. at CNI, 223 West Mountain Road, Ridgefield, Conn. Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. Friends may call at the CND on Tuesday from 3-8 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 6:45 p.m.

The Cornell Memorial Funeral Home, 247 White St., in Danbury, Conn. is in charge of arrangements.
