JESSICA M. GOULD

ALBURG -- Jessica M. Gould, 17, a resident of the Alburg community, died suddenly Wednesday evening, June 25, 2003, in the Northwestern Medical Center Emergency Room from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Alburg.

Jessica was born in St. Albans, on Dec. 30, 1985, the daughter of Wayne and Lisa (Murray) Gould. She attended and graduated from Missisquoi Valley Union High School, Class of 2003 in Swanton.

In addition to her parents, Jessica leaves a brother, Wayne Gould, Jr. of Alburg, as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins and special friends.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 30, 2003, at 12 noon at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave Swanton. The Reverend Marcheta Townsend, pastor of the Highgate United Methodist Church will officiate. Interment will follow in the Gould Family lot in Riverside Cemetery.

Family and friends may call at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the hour of the funeral on Monday, June 30, 2003.

LARRY D. HOGABOOM

ST. ALBANS -- Mr. Larry D. Hogaboom, age 53, died suddenly early Thursday morning, June 26, 2003, at his camp. He was born in Richmond, Sept. 28, 1949, son of the late Frank and Marion (Dean) Hogaboom.

Larry was a store manager for Maynard Auto Supply, later manager of the Lube Division of Sherman Allen, and his most recent employment was parts manager of J. & B. International in Colchester. He was a self-employed logger during several seasons.

Larry (better known as "Poppy") was special to his granddaughters. He enjoyed fishing, NASCAR Racing, boating and was an avid camper. He was a member of the B.P.O.E., Elks Lodge 1566 of St. Albans for many years. Larry married Sandra Potter on May 4, 1986.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Loren Cahill of Mount Holly; stepfather, Orval Combs of Fairfield; two very special granddaughters, Devon and Kyla Loso; three brothers and their wives, Gary and Carol Hogaboom of Claremont, N.H., Robert and Shirley Hogaboom of Enosburg, and Norman and Bev Hogaboom of Kalamazoo, Mich.; two sisters-in-law, Delia Hogaboom of Norwich, and Jean Hogaboom of Richford; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and special friends at the Champlain Valley Campground. He was predeceased by his father, Frank Hogaboom; mother, Marion (Dean) Combs; and brothers, Richard and Horace Hogaboom.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. in the Brady & Levesque Chapel. Friends may call at the funeral home, 86 South Main Street, St. Albans, from 7 to 9 this evening. Interment will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 28, 2003, in the Hogaboom family lot in Jericho Center Cemetery.

AGNES MARIE PARENT

ENOSBURG FALLS -- Agnes Marie Parent, age 93, died Thursday, June 19, 2003, at Haven Health Care in St. Albans. She was born April 14, 1910, in St. Paul L'Ermite, Quebec, Canada, the daughter of the late Ovila and Elizabeth (Longpre) Leveille.

She was a resident of Enosburg Falls and Malone, N.Y. most of her life and was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. She was also a former member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Malone, N.Y., and a former member of the Tyler Branch Grange in Enosburg Falls.

She is survived by four sons, Raymond Parent and his wife Charlotte, Roger Parent and his wife Helen, all of Enosburg Falls, John Mark Parent of Malone, N.Y., and Armand Parent of Barre; two daughters, Jeannine Buehler of Pawling, N.Y., and Madeleine Davis and her husband Paul of Malone, N.Y.; one stepson, Yvon Parent and his wife Laurette of Torrington, Conn.; one stepdaughter, Georgette Theriault and her husband Raymond of Cowansville, Quebec; a stepdaughter-in-law, Reine Eva Parent of Granby, Quebec.; 16 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; several stepgrand and great-grandchildren; one sister, Rosalie Leveille of Montreal, Quebec; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Omer Parent; a son, Joseph Dennis Parent; one step-son, O'Baldor Parent; a stepdaughter, Yvette Chauvin; a daughter-in-law, Mable F. Parent; two sons-in-law, Rayburn Reed and Richard Buelher; two stepsons-in-law, Rene Benoit and Henry Chauvin; four brothers, Moises, Charles, Prime and Joseph; and two sisters, Olive and Elizabeth.

Funeral services were held Monday, June 23, 2003, at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Reverend Benedict Kiely celebrating the Mass of Christian Burial, assisted by Leonard Charron. Altar servers were Mrs. Parent's great-granddaughters, Jessica and Morgan Jackson. Organist/Soloist was Claire Hungerford.

The pall was draped on her casket by her sons, Raymond and Roger Parent. Readings were said by her grandson-in-law, Geoff Jackson. The offertory gifts were presented by her daughters, Jeannine Buehler and Madeleine Davis, and her son John Mark Parent. Pall bearers were her grandsons, Faron Parent, Kevin Reed, Stephen Parent, Mark Davis, Matthew Davis, and Joshua Parent. Interment took place Thursday, June 26, 2003, at St. John the Baptist Cemetery.

Visiting hours were held Monday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls.

CAMILLE M. VERRET

ST. ALBANS/ENFIELD, Conn. -- Camille M. Verret, 72, of Enfield, Conn., entered into eternal life Monday, June 16, 2003, at the Johnson Memorial Hospital in Stafford Springs, Conn. He was born in Burlington, Vt., Feb. 2, 1931, the son of the late Fernand and Lucienne (Fournier) Verret.

Camille was a graduate of Holy Angels School in St. Albans, and has resided in Enfield, Conn. for the past 43 years.

Camille retired in 1992 after 42 years in the Quality Assurance Division of Pratt and Whitney in East Hartford, Conn.

Stationed in Germany during the Korean War, he served his country honorably as a member of the U.S. Army. He was a member of the John Maciolek Post 154 of The American Legion and Holy Family Church in Enfield.

Camille leaves his wife of 46 years, Annie (Hynd) Verret. He is also survived by two daughters, Sharon Verret and Beverly Tambling of Enfield, Conn.; a dear granddaughter, Allison Tambling, the "light of his life." He also leaves his brother, Leo and Juliette Verret of St. Albans; two sisters-in-law, Louise Verret of New Hampshire, and Mary Black of Scotland; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Henry "Hank" Verret of New Hampshire; and his sister, Marguerite Roth of Texas.

There were no calling hours held for Camille.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels of Enfield, Conn.

A Memorial Mass was held June 24, 2003, in The Holy Family Church with Military Honors provided by the John Maciolek Post 154, American Legion.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

JOSEPH HENRY COUTU JR.

NEWPORT, Vt. -- Mr. Joseph Henry Coutu, Jr., 68, passed away at Dartmouth Hitchcock Hospital on June 25, 2003. He was born in Newport, Vt., Nov. 6, 1934, the son of Joseph Henry Coutu Sr. and Yvonne Marie Trahan.

He graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1952. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War aboard a sub chaser. He worked most of his life for the Postal Service, for many years as a carrier walking 15 miles a day, and for the later part of his career as the assistant postmaster, and then postmaster of the Newport Post Office.

He was a long time member of the American Legion, and other civic organizations. He was the scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 4, from 1968 to 1972. As a youth he attended the national boy scout jamboree in 1950. He was an active member of St. Mary Star of the Sea Parish. He was a co-founder of the Sacred Heart Alumni Association. He greatly enjoyed fishing, hunting, and curling.

Joe is survived by his wife of 48 years, Braunda Darling Coutu; and his five children and their families, Daniel and Carol Coutu of Amherst, N.H. and their four children, Christopher, Matthew, Dawn, and Steven; Michael and Chieko Coutu of Newport and their three sons, Hayato, Ricky, and Bobby; Charles and Deborah Coutu and their three children, Corey, Marc and Bryea; Catherine and Steve Garrison and their daughter, Gretchen, and Ronald Coutu, and his friend, Dee Tiedeman of Troy, Vt. He is also survived by his sisters, Theresa Harvey of Jacksonville, Fla., and Irene Fontaine of Walden, N.Y.; and a brother, Jean Pierre and his wife Beatrice Coutu of Newport; as well as 13 nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Jacques.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, June 27, 2003, at the Curtis-Britch Converse-Rushford Funeral Home, 4670 Darling Hill Road, off Sias Avenue, in Newport, Vt. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 28, 2003, at St. Mary Star of The Sea Catholic Church in Newport with Reverend Leopold Bilodeau officiating at a Mass of the Resurrection. Interment will follow at the St. Mary's Cemetery in Newport with full military honors. A reception will follow at the Knights of Columbus Hall.

Arrangements are entrusted to the care of the Curtis-Britch Converse-Rushford Funeral Homes, locally family owned and operated.

ELAINE JACOBS JOHNSON

MILTON/ST. ALBANS -- Elaine Jacobs Johnson, 91, died Wednesday, June 25, 2003, at the Haven Health Care Center in St. Albans following a long illness. Elaine was born on June 1, 1912, in Braintree, Vt., the daughter of John A. and Bessie (Copland) Jacobs.

On Jan. 17, 1932, she married Howard Johnson in Colchester. Together they ran Howard Johnson's Freezer Locker for many years. Howard died on Jan. 14, 2002, just three days before celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary.

Elaine was a member of the United Church of Milton and also belonged to the American Legion Post 57 Auxiliary.

She is survived by her daughter, Sally White of Milton; her grandchildren, Steven, Dean and Todd White; her great-grandchildren, Jesse and Katherine of St. Albans, and Lucas and Nathan of Milton; her great-great-grandchildren, Eliza and Tyler White; her nephew, John Mayville and his wife Phyllis of Milton; her niece, Lana Jacobs Spencer and her husband Terry of Essex; her sister-in-law, Lorraine Jacobs of Milton; several nieces and nephews; and her very special and devoted friends, Peter and Candi Gingras of Milton.

Besides being predeceased by her husband Howard, she was also predeceased by her sister Iris Mayville on June 7 of this year; and her brother Stanley Jacobs.

A Graveside Committal Service will be held on Friday, June 27, at 2 p.m. in the Milton Village Cemetery Main Street, Milton.

There will be no visiting hours, however, friends are invited to visit with the family at the home of Sally White following the burial.

Donations in Elaine's memory may be made to the Franklin County Humane Society, 30 Sunset Meadows, St. Albans, Vt. 05478.

Arrangements are by the Minor Funeral Home in Milton.

SCOTT LEE BUSHEY

HIGHGATE CENTER -- Scott Lee Bushey, 44, a lifelong area resident died suddenly Mondays morning, June 23, 2003, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Highgate Center.

Scott was born in St. Albans, Nov. 2, 1958, the son of Robert and Geraldine (Emch) Bushey. He attended Missisquoi Valley Union High School graduating with the Class of 1976. On July 17, 1982, he married the former Lisa Greenwood who survives him.

Scott has spent most all of his working life as a truck driver and until his death had been associated as a delivery person for the Burlington Drug Company. In earlier years he also had driven for R.L. Vallee Inc., Dowlings and Oliver Seed Company.

Scott was very proud that he shared his astrological sign of Scorpio with his daughter, Cara and granddaughter, Evony.

In addition to his wife Lisa of Highgate Center, Scott also leaves two daughters, Cara Lee Bushey and Lindsey Frances Bushey, and a granddaughter, Evony Storm Bushey, all of Highgate Center; his mother, Mrs. Geraldine Bushey of St. Albans; and two brothers, Roger Bushey of Swanton and Brent Bushey and his wife Connie of Huntington; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Joe and Judy Greenwood of Florida, Raymond Greenwood Jr. of Essex, Judy Greenwood of Richford, Ila Parrotte of St. Albans, Chris and Carol Greenwood of Highgate and Roy and Cindy Greenwood of California; his life long friend, Gilbert Craig of Portsmouth, R.I.; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces, nephews and friends.

He was predeceased just recently by his father Robert Bushey on May 16 of this year and his brother Wayne Bushey in August of 1989.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, June 27, 2003, at 10 a.m. from The Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton. The Reverend Marcheta Townsend pastor of the Highgate United Methodist Church will officiate. Interment will follow in the family lot in the Sheldon Village Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, June 26, 2003, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Following the prayers of committal family and friends are invited to gather for food and conversation at the Swanton Municipal Complex located on First Street in Swanton Village.
