EUNICE EATON RUSHLOW

SWANTON -- Mrs. Eunice Eaton Rushlow, 100, a lifelong Franklin County resident, died early Wednesday morning, June 11, 2003, in Haven Health Care in St. Albans Town with her family by her side.

Mrs. Rushlow was born in Fairfield, Dec. 15, 1902, the daughter of the late, Lester and Addie (Potter) Elwood. She attended schools in Fairfield and in April of 1922 married William Rushlow who predeceased her in July of 1947.

In earlier years Mrs. Rushlow worked as a seamstress for the Ryerson Sisters and the former York Manufacturing. She was a member of The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

She leaves two sons and their wives, Kenneth and Shirley Rushlow and Richard and Elaine Rushlow, all of Swanton; three daughters, Ethel Chapple and Anna Leroux both of Swanton and Charlotte Deuso and her husband Joseph of East Springfield, Mass.; a brother, Guy Elwood of Florida. Also surviving is a son-in-law, Howard Deuso of Enosburg; 24 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren, 13 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband William Rushlow she was predeceased by three children, Elizabeth Deuso and Lester and Charlene Rushlow. Also a grandson, Robert LaMothe Jr. and two great-grandchildren, Harrison Chapple and Erikia Deuso as well as three sisters and two brothers.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, June 14, 2003, at 11 a.m. from The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 65 Canada St., Swanton. The pastor, Father John J. Meagher, SSE will be the celebrant and homilist. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Friends may call at The Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton on Friday evening, June 13, 2003, from 7 to 9 p.m. Gifts in Mrs. Rushlow's memory may be made to Haven Health Care, 596 Sheldon Road, St. Albans, Vt. 05478.

ROBERT E. GOODCHILD

MONTGOMERY CENTER -- Robert E. Goodchild, age 69, died Saturday, June 7, 2003, at his home. He was born June 29, 1933, in Holyoke, Mass., the son of the late Erwin and Gertrude (Roberts) Goodchild.

Robert was a resident of Montgomery since 1978 and was a former resident of Holyoke, Mass. where he was employed as an Insurance Agent with his father and then with The Hartford Insurance Co. he was also a former member of the Holyoke Lions Club and was active with the Ski Patrol at Mount Tom. While in Vermont, Robert and Margaret operated the West Hill Weavers knitting business until 1978.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret (Lumbra) Goodchild of Montgomery; two daughters, Susan and Heather Goodchild, both of Holyoke, Mass.; a brother, Erwin Goodchild Jr. of Greenfield, Mass.; a sister, Ruth Paige of Windsor Locks, Conn.; his father-in-law, Roy Lumbra of Holyoke, Mass.; his brother-in-law, James Lumbra of Southampton, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.

In keeping with Robert's wishes he will be cremated, a Memorial Service will be held Saturday, June 14, 2003, at 2 p.m. at the St. Isidores Parish Hall in Montgomery Center. There will be no visiting hours.

Robert had also requested that there be no flowers. For those who wish, contributions in his memory may be made to the Montgomery Rescue Service, P.O. Box 390, Montgomery Center, Vt. 05471.

IRIS J. MAYVILLE

MILTON -- Iris J. Mayville, 90, died Saturday, June 7, 2003, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington following a short illness.

Iris was born in Braintree, Vt. on July 7, 1913, the daughter of John and Bessie (Copeland) Jacobs.

She graduated from Milton High School with the Class of 1932, and received her Registered Nursing Degree in 1936 from the Jeanne Mance School of Nursing. She worked for the DeGoesbriand Hospital until retiring in 1971.

Iris married F. Arthur Mayville on July 21, 1941 in Milton.

She enjoyed spending time at their summer home, Camp Everest on Lake Champlain.

Mrs. Mayville loved animals and was always taking in strays, giving them a place to stay and sleep. She was a member of the United Church of Milton, the United Church Woman's Society, the Milton Woman's Club, OES Chittenden Chapter 59, American Legion Auxiliary, and of the Milton Historical Society.

Iris is survived by her son John Mayville and his wife Phyllis of Milton; her grandchildren Michaella Warryn, Marjorie Miller, and Christopher John Mayville; her sister Elaine Johnson; a special niece Sally White; her sister-in-law Lorraine Jacobs; and many other nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Arthur in 1995 and her brother Stanley Jacobs.

Iris's family would like to extend a special thanks to the nursing staff on Shep. 4, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care for the excellent care given during Iris's short stay.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, June 10, 2003, at 2 p.m. in the United Church of Milton. Burial will follow in the Milton Village Cemetery.

Memorials in Iris's name may be made to either the United Church of Milton, Iris Mayville Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 107, Milton, Vt. 05468. or Milton Rescue, P.O. Box 15, Milton, Vt. 05468.

Visiting hours will be held Monday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. with an Eastern Star Service at 8 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton.

ADAM JOSEPH RICE

SWANTON -- Adam Joseph Rice, 22, a resident of the Janes Road in Swanton Town and a six-year associate of the Albert Fresn Farm died suddenly early Saturday morning in a tragic automobile accident on the Frontage Road.

Adam was born in Burlington, April 14, 1981, the son of Joanne Rice and Albert Joseph Roberge. He lived most of his earlier years and attended school in the St. Albans area. On May 5, 2002, he married the former Desiree Gagne who survives him.

He will always be remembered for his love of farming, fishing, hunting, four-wheeling and most of all his family.

In addition to his wife, Desiree Rice of Swanton, Adam leaves his son, Adam Joseph Rice II of Swanton and another child expected on the sixth of January, 2004. He also leaves his mother, Joanne Rice of Burlington; his father, Albert Joseph Roberge and his wife Lisa of Alburg; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Karen and Cyrille Gagne of Highgate Center; two sisters, Tina Clogston of Burlington and Jodie Rice of Richford; a step-sister, Amber Bohannon of Plattsburgh; a step-brother, Thomas Bohannon of Alburg; as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, June 13, 2003, at 1 p.m. from The Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton. Father Maurice U. Boucher, SSE, director of St. Anne's Shrine in Isle La Motte will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Louis Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday evening, June 12, 2003, from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Friday from 11 a.m. until the hour of the funeral.

Gifts in Adam's memory may be made to the family to assist with final expenses, in care of Cyrille and Karen Gagne, 649 Tarte Road, Highgate Center, Vt. 05459.

LUCIEN R. "POP" RAINVILLE

FRANKLIN -- Lucien R. "Pop" Rainville, 71, a longtime resident of the Franklin community died suddenly Friday afternoon, June 6, 2003, while working the fields on his farms.

He was born at home in Highgate, Sept. 6, 1931, the son of the late Henri and Mae (Demers) Rainville. He attended schools in Highgate and on October 2, 1954, married the former Monique Bouchard who survives him.

For many years Lucien along with his family owned and operated their farms in Franklin. He will always be remembered for his selfless devotion to his family and the land. He was a member of the National Farmers Organization and served the Town of Franklin as a school director for four years. He was also a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Parish in Franklin, a Third Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 297, of St. Albans, and belonged to the Holy Name Society and the Catholic Order of Foresters.

In addition to his wife Monique of 49 years, Lucien leaves his children and grandchildren, Claude Rainville and his wife Donna and their son John of Tucson, Ariz., Anne Marie Chates and her husband Eric and step-children, Nick, Nathan and Bryan of Franklin, Rolland Rainville and his wife Jill and children, Eva and step-son, Zachary Pigeon of Franklin, Mark Rainville and Bonnie and children Brandon, Bradley, Blake and Beau Rainville and step-daughter, Brandi Domina of Franklin, Julie Rivers and her husband Chad and children Jacey and Alan of Franklin, Pierre Rainville his wife Lisa and daughters Katie and Kylie of St. Albans and Susan Rainville of Franklin. He also leaves his brothers and sisters, Norbert and Madeline Rainville of Highgate Center, Joachim and Lorraine Rainville of Highgate Center, Mary Jane and Marcel Benoit of Sheldon, Bernadette and Hector Tremblay of Highgate Center, Mae Anne and Andre Laroche of St. Albans and Theresa and Marcel Begnoche of Swanton. Also great-grandchildren, Dartanyon LaCroix and Morraisa Rice as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a son, Alan Paul Rainville; a grandson, Barry Rice; and his sister and brother-in-law, Cecile and Paul Bouchard.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at 11 a.m. from St. Louis Roman Catholic Church, Lamkin Street, Highgate Center. Lucien's cousin, Father Marcel R. Rainville, SSE, from the Office of Campus Ministry at St. Michael's College, will be the celebrant and homilist. Interment will follow in the Rainville family lot in St. Louis Cemetery. Friends may call at The Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton on Tuesday, June 10, 2003, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Gifts in Lucien's memory may be made to, Franklin Rescue, in care of, Richard Gadbois, Franklin, Vt. 05457.

RITA L. (PLOOF) PRESTON

ST. ALBANS -- Mrs. Rita L. Preston, age 65, died unexpectedly upon arrival at the Northwestern Medical Center, Saturday, June 7, 2003. She was born in St. Albans, April 22, 1938, daughter of the late Treffle and Zephrine (Dubois) Plouffe. She married Louis Preston April 23, 1960. Rita spent her life as a home maker caring for her family. She loved to go for rides, travel and dine out, but her favorite past time was to spend time with her five grandchildren.

Rita is survived by her husband of 43 years, Louis; her two sons Rockey Preston and his wife Kimberly of Northfield, and John Preston and his wife Rachel of Essex; her five grandchildren, Jared Michael Preston, Jacob Ethan Preston, Jefferson Louis Preston, Zachary Louis Preston, and Averi Jean Preston; her sisters, Irene Tanner of St. Albans, Anita Perrault and her husband Armand of St. Albans; her brothers Raymond Plouffe of Georgia, and Norman Plouffe and his companion Myrtle of St. Albans; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents; brothers Harvey and Maurice Plouffe; and sister Yvonne Menard.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at 11 a.m. in the Brady & Levesque Funeral Chapel. Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 S. Main St., from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, and from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral on Wednesday morning. Interment will be in the Preston family lot in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.

LISA LAFAVE

GOLDSBORO, N.C./RICHFORD -- Lisa Lafave, 38, of Goldsboro, N.C., joined her parents Carroll and Eleanor Billado Sr. in Heaven, Tuesday, June 3, 2003.

She was born in Richford, June 24, 1964, the daughter of the late Carroll and Eleanor (Lackey) Billado.

Thomas and Lisa were married Aug. 22, 1981. They moved to North Carolina in 1982, where they owned and operated a furniture shop. Her husband and two daughters were the most loved and important people in her life. She loved her family and friends. Lisa enjoyed being at the ocean, she spent many peaceful hours there.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas, and two daughters, Laura Lee and her fiancé Joshua Longwell, and Megan; three brothers, Carroll Billado Jr. of Enosburg, Douglas Billado and his wife, Ruth, of Richford, and Daniel Billado and his wife, Lynn, of Swanton; four sisters, Avris Billado of Barton, Jean Bryce and her husband, John, of Enosburg, Barbara Beauregard and her husband, Rene, of Richford, and Kathy Marshia and her husband, David, of Enosburg; her mother-in-law, Joyce Laughlin and her husband, Warren, of Florida; and one sister-in-law, Jody McNabb and her husband, John, of Arizona. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Timothy and Richard Billado.

There will be a graveside service Sunday, June 8, 2003, at the Missisquoi Cemetery in Enosburg at 1:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association in Lisa's memory.

CORA BELLE STEINHOUR

RICHFORD -- Cora Belle Steinhour, age 67, widow of Linwood Steinhour, died Wednesday, June 4, 2003, at Holiday House in St. Albans following a long illness. She was born in North Troy, June 29, 1935, the daughter of the late Scott and Della (Lucas) Wright.

Cora Belle had been a resident of Richford most of her life and for the past few years made her home in Enosburg and St. Albans.

She is survived by a son, Linwood Steinhour Jr. of Burlington; three daughters, Evelyn Royce and her husband, Wayne, of Silsbee, Texas, Vieta and her husband, Gary, of Highgate, and Tammy MacKenzie of Highgate; a son-in-law, Kermet Eldred of Highgate; one brother, Sidney Wright of East Hartford, Conn.; two sisters, Sybil Fecteau of Richford and Charity Lavoie and her husband, Rene, of Newburg, Pa.; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a special cousin, Annie Bickford of Sutton, Quebec; two special nieces, Delphia Goodhue and Diane Burnham; a sister-in-law and dear friend, Joyce and Nixon Thompson and the David Root family. She was predeceased by two daughters, infant Molly Bea and Cheryl Eldred on May 17, 2003; one sister, Ida Mae Burnham; four brothers, Raymond, Clifford, Lyndon and Irvin Wright; and her favorite school teacher, Marie Perry.

Friends may call at the Spears Funeral Home on Dickinson Avenue in Enosburg Falls, Sunday afternoon from 2 to 3 p.m. with Pastor Patrick Hoadley officiating. Interment will follow in the Richford Center Cemetery.

Spears Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
