NONA S. KARWAN

GEORGIA -- Nona S. Karwan, 81, a longtime Georgia resident passed away on Monday, July 21, 2003, at Redstone Villa Nursing Home. She was born in Burlington, March 31, 1922, the daughter of the late Ralph O. and Leotta (Hollis) St. Peter. On Nov. 17, 1943 she married Joseph C. Karwan, who predeceased her on Aug. 10, 1997.

Nona was a member of the Ascension Parish in Georgia where she taught bible class and attended several retreats with her husband. She will be remembered for her blue ribbons that she won for cooking at the Maple Festival, Franklin County Field Days, the Champlain Valley Exposition and several awards at the Eastern States Exposition in Springfield Massachusetts.

Survivors include her sons, Christopher Karwan and his wife, Cheryl (Palmer) of Georgia, Michael Karwan and his wife, Darina of Painsville, Ohio, William Karwan and his wife, Beverly of Dothan, Ala., and Shawn Karwan of Shelburne; three grandchildren, Kasee Story, Brian and Vanessa Karwan; two brothers, Ralph St. Peter and his wife Carol of St. Albans Bay and their family, Hollis, Dallas, Travis, Caroline and Christine, and Hollis St. Peter and his wife, Carole of Solon, Ohio; several nieces and nephews; and a former daughter-in-law, Kristin Johnson of South Burlington.

The family would like to say thank you to the staff at Redstone Villa for the care that Nona received during her stay there.

At Nona's request a graveside funeral service will be held on Friday, July 25, 2003, at 10 a.m. at St. Luke's Cemetery in Fairfax with the Reverend Francis E. Connors of the Ascension Parish officiating. There will be no visitation.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the family through the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main St., St. Albans, VT 05478.

OLIVIA JARVIS

SWANTON / ISLE LA MOTTE -- Olivia Jarvis died peacefully at the Giordano Manor in Swanton on July 22, 2003.

She was born on, June 10, 1909, the daughter of the late Hector and Maude (Deo) Langlois. On April 25, 1932, she married Lawrence Jarvis who predeceased her in 1963.

Olivia was a member of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Mission in Isle La Motte. She was a member of the Foster Grandparent Program and worked in the Isle La Motte Elementary School for eleven years.

She is survived by her daughter, Janet Hatin of Colchester; 10 grandchildren, Brenda Thibault of St. Albans, Susan and Kathy Fournier of Swanton, Timothy LaBombard of Essex Junction, Theresa Hatin of Andover, Vt., Lynn, Denise, Laura and David Hatin of Colchester and Judi Brown of Marshall, Minn. She is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren, Andre, Eric, Shawn and Heidi Stefaniak, Ryan and Nathan Thibault, David, Amanda, William, Joseph and Megan Fournier, Kyle and Katie Hatin of Colchester and Jack Brown of Minnesota; and two great-great-grandchildren, Taylor and Caleb Stefaniak; and her son-in-law, Llewellyn LaBombard; as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her daughter, Barbara LaBombard; two grandchildren, Carol Stefaniak and Larry LaBombard; and her son-in-law, Eugene (Joe) Hatin.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, July 25, 2003, at 3 p.m. from St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Mission, Main Street, Isle La Motte. The pastor, Father Maurice U. Boucher, SSE will officiate. Interment will follow in the Jarvis- Bonneville family lot in St. Joseph's Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton on Friday afternoon from 12:30 p.m. until 2 p.m. Gifts in Olivia's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, Vermont Division, 11 Loomis Street, Montpelier, Vt. 05602-3021.

STELLA M. DEUSO

MONTGOMERY, VT/SPRING HILL, Fla. -- Stella M. Deuso passed away Monday, July 14, 2003, at Spring Hill, Fla., after a short period of declining health. She was born in Abercorn, Quebec, Canada, March 12, 1917, the daughter of the late John and Corine (Latour) Vincent.

She spent her earlier years in Montgomery on the Vincent Farm moving to Brattleboro in the 1960s. In 1934, she married John A. Deuso.

She leaves three sons, Kenneth Deuso of Hinsdale, N.H., Clifford Deuso of Enosburg Falls, and Raymond Deuso of Halifax; a daughter, Verna Peck of Brattleboro; also a dear friend, John Young of Spring Hill, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband of 47 years, John A. Deuso in 1981; a daughter, Wanda Deuso in 2001.

In keeping with Stella's wishes, there will be no funeral services. A graveside committal will be held at the convenience of the family at the family lot in the Montgomery Center Cemetery.

DAVID O'ROURKE

ST. ALBANS -- The Memorial Service for David A. O'Rourke, 60, of Sunrise, Fla., who died May 1, 2003, at the Hospice Unit of the Pembroke Memorial Hospital in Pembroke Pines, Fla., will be held 7 p.m. Thursday, July 24, at the Holy Angels Church on Lake Street in St. Albans.

Burial of ashes will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Evergreen Cemetery.

Arrangements are by the Aldous Funeral Home, 44 North Main St., Rutland, Vt.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the American Cancer Society, Vermont Division Inc., 13 Loomis St., Montpelier, Vt. 05602.

TERRILYNN FISKE

ALBURG -- Terrilynn Fiske, 43, of Alburg died Sunday morning, July 20, 2003, in her home surrounded by family and friends.

She was born in St. Albans, March 21, 1960, the daughter of the late David and Alice (Cameron) Fiske. She graduated from Bellows Free Academy-St. Albans with the Class of 1978. She also graduated from Champlain College with an Associates Degree as a Dental Assistant and later from Trinity College with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice.

From October 1996 until December 1998, Terrilynn was an Americorp Vista Volunteer assigned to the Northwest Unit for Special Investigation. She was very proud of being one of the founders of the Franklin - Grand Isle Violence Against Women Project. Terri has always been a passionate advocate for women needing assistance in abusive situations. She will always be remembered as a very generous, loving and family oriented person, with a very special devotion to her son Travis.

Prior to her illness she had worked several years for the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service in the St. Albans District Office as a Data Entry Clerk.

Terrilynn leaves her son, Travis Ryder Jarvis, and her fiance, Julian Laroche, both of Alburg; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends.

She was predeceased by her father, David Fiske on May 23, 1995, and her mother, Alice Cameron Fiske on Dec. 15, 2001.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, July 23, 2003, at 11 a.m. from St. Amadeus Roman Catholic Church, Main Street, Alburg. The pastor, Father Maurice U. Boucher, SSE will officiate. Interment will follow in the Fiske family lot in the Weybridge Hill Cemetery in Weybridge, Vermont.

Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton this evening, July 22, 2003, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Gifts in Terrilynn's memory may be made to Alburg Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 223, Alburg, Vt. 05440 or to the American Legion, Creller-Landon Post 60, Ladies Auxiliary, in care of Joyce Ladd, 97 A Alburg Springs Road, Alburg, Vt. 05440.

JOHN "JOE PETE" PAUL DULUDE

ALBURG -- John Paul Dulude "Joe Pete, " born Sept. 4, 1932, the son of the late Alva and Laura (St. John) Dulude, passed away peacefully at his home, July 20, 2003, in the arms of his loving family, friends and neighbors. He was a life long resident of this community.

He attended Alburg Schools and on Oct. 8, 1966, married the former Brenda Chaffee. He faithfully served his country in the United States Army Corp of Engineers during the Korean Conflict from 1954 to 1956. He was a member of St. Amadeus Roman Catholic Parish, American Legion, Creller-Landon Post 60 in Alburg, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Charles DaPrato Post 778 in Swanton, National Rifle Association, AARP and Islands in the Sun Senior Citizens.

He served as Fire Chief and Road Commissioner for the Town of Alburg in the 1960s and 1970s. He was a heavy equipment operator and mechanic with several local contractors including Francis Waite, Ray Dubois, Robert Labombard, Raleigh Palmer, Rudy Prairie, A.G. Anderson, M & T Sand and Gravel, Grand Avenue Enterprises, Ducharme Marble Quarry, and also performed mechanical repairs on the Alburg Town School Buses and P.J. Medor's Fuel Trucks.

He is survived by his loving wife, Brenda; a son Steven and his wife Sharon; foster daughter, Mary Lou Sharland; five grandchildren, Shannon Rae, Shawn Paul, Sarah Lynn, Dale Park and friend Sara, Chad Park and friend Tracy; two great-grandchildren, Damien Bigelow and Jacob Park; and two god-children, Ricky Bourgeois and Kim Knight; three sisters, Aline LaBombard of Bristol, Conn., Paulette Summer and husband Dave Valintakonis of Alburg, Theresa (Teri) Dulude and friend Neil of Beacon, N.Y.; as well as several nieces, nephews, neighbors and his "garage buddies, " Timmy and Albert Greeno. "Joe Pete" was a very devoted husband, father, grandpa and was a great friend and teacher to all he new him. We loved him dearly and he will be greatly missed by all.

He was predeceased by his mother, Laura in 2002; father, Alva in 1973; two brothers, Claude in 1974, and Alva, Jr. in 1996; and a niece, Michelle Wishenbard in 1992.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, July 23, 2003, at 7 p.m. from the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave. Swanton. Father Maurice U. Boucher, SSE and The Reverend Deborah Laporte together will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday afternoon from 4 p.m. until the hour of the funeral. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Donations in "Joe Pete's" memory may be made to the Alburg Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad, PO Box 223, Alburg, Vt. 05440.

JEAN (J.J.) MESSIER

BRIDGEPORT -- Jean (J.J.) Messier of Bridgeport, beloved husband of Rolande Beaulieu Messier, died on Wednesday, July 16, 2003, at St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport.

Mr. Messier, formerly of Swanton, Vt., was born in Roxton Falls, Canada, son of the late George and Antoinette Millotte Messier, and had been a resident of Bridgeport since 1956. He retired from Sikorsky Aircraft after 26 years, and was active with the Sikorsky Retirees Club.

Mr. Messier was a member of the Teamsters Local 1150, St. Andrew Parish Friendship Club, and a third degree member of the Burlington, Vt. Knights of Columbus.

In addition to his beloved wife, he leaves his devoted children, Annette Murphy and her husband Peter of Prospect, Patricia Pacelli and her husband William of Trumbull, and Paul M. Messier and his wife Francine of Seymour; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren, all of whom loved their "Pepere" dearly; a sister, Madeline (Molly) Cecil of Beverly Hill, Fla.; twin brother and sister, Armand Messier and Armande (Fugie) Daniel, both of Swanton, Vt.; twin brother and sister, Charles Messier and Charlotte De Compos, both of Manchester; and a sister, Constance (Connie) Cramer of Dover, Del.; also several nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law. He was predeceased by a beloved grandson, Steven; three brothers, Paul, Robert and Marcel Messier; and one sister, Yvette Livingston.

Funeral services were held Saturday at 9:15 a.m. from the Redgate-Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull, and at 10 a.m. in St. Andrew Church, Bridgeport, with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment followed in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Trumbull. Friends were able to call Friday, from 5 to 8 p.m.

LAURA G. (STEVENS) GREEN

JOHNSON - Laura Gwendolyn (Stevens) Green, age 92, passed away in the early morning hours of Friday, July 18, 2003 at her home in Johnson. She was born in Montgomery, Vt. on April 10, 1911, daughter of the late William and Lula (Rowley) Stevens.

She was a graduate of Vermont College, formerly the Montpelier Seminary. Laura married Raymond Green in Montgomery on Oct. 14, 1935. Raymond predeceased Laura on July 6, 1991.

She was a dedicated employee of the Johnson Woolen Mills where she worked as a seamstress for many years. Laura loved to cook and will be fondly remembered for her delicious doughnuts and pies. She was active in the Johnson community as a member of the United Church and Grange Master of the Johnson Grange.

Laura enjoyed the precious times spent with her very close and loving family. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Thetis Gilbert and her husband, Michael, of Johnson, and her granddaughter, Amy Touchette and her husband, Robin, and her great granddaughter, Emily, all of Wolcott.

She was also predeceased by her brother, Rowley Stevens in 1990.

At Laura's request, there will be no visiting hours or funeral service. A graveside service with inurnment will be held on Friday, July 25, 2003 at 12 p.m. at the Lamoille View Cemetery with the Reverend Wesley E. Megaw offering committal prayers.

Memorial contributions may be made in Laura's memory to the Lamoille County Home Health Agency, 54 Farr Ave., Morrisville, Vt. 05661.

Arrangements are by the Hayes-Rich Funeral Home, 1176 Main St., Fairfax.
