RANDY LEON GILBEAU

SOUTH HERO/WESTFORD -- Randy Leon Gilbeau, 47, of South Hero, died unexpectedly Saturday, July 5, 2003, at his home in South Hero. Randy was born Jan. 21, 1956 in Burlington, the son of Leon and Phyllis Richards Gilbeau.

He attended Westford schools and graduated from the Essex Junction Educational Center in 1975. Following his graduation he went to work at IBM with a subcontractor doing maintenance work for several years. He then was employed with the Westford School System as a custodian. Randy enjoyed the children and he dedicated many years of himself coaching and umpiring basketball and softball. He had a way of instilling self confidence in every child that he came in contact with. He helped by giving them the confidence that they needed to believe in themselves.

After leaving Westford, Randy married the love of his life, the former Julie Maxfield in Westford on July 4, 2001. He spent his last years working at South Hero Mobil where he and his wife Julie managed the second shift. This was a job that he truly enjoyed and where he also enjoyed the public interaction.

Randy loved life and lived it to the fullest and was very appreciative of everything and everyone that he met. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his loving wife, Julie Gilbeau of South Hero; and his beloved parents, Leon and Phyllis Gilbeau of Westford; his brothers and sisters, Leo Gilbeau of South Burlington, Sandy Bessette and her husband Carl of South Hero, Vicky Broe and her husband Mike and Steven Gilbeau and his wife Patty both of Westford, Debbie Fowler and her husband Leo of Proctor and Leon Gilbeau of Colchester; his brother and sister-in-laws, Rose Thomas of Milton, Harold and Sherri Maxfield of Fairfax as well as Charles and Phillip Maxfield also of Fairfax; several nieces and nephews including, Jamie, James Robert, Steven Jr., Danielle, Adam, Michelle, Matthew, Molly and Justin as well as special nieces, Rachael and Shannon; one grandniece and one grandnephew; several uncles and aunts including his special uncle, Leo Rich and Aunt Theresa Arello. He was predeceased by a stepson, Barry Jay Maxfield on March 17, 1999.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, July 9, 2003, at 1 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton with the Reverend Elizabeth Griffin officiating.

Visiting Hours will be held on today, July 8, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home Route 7 in Milton.

MARIE REINE BEAUREGARD

ST. ALBANS/NORTHAMPTON, Mass. -- Marie Reine Beauregard, 98, a former Huntington Street resident, passed away early Wednesday, May 14, 2003, in the Linda Manor Nursing Facility in Leeds, Mass. She was born Dec. 6, 1904, in Lowell, Mass., the daughter of the late Pierre and Hermeni (Archambault) Fontaine. On Sept. 1, 1923, in Winooski, she married Arthur G. Beauregard, who predeceased her on Oct. 3, 1980.

She was a communicant of Holy Angles Parish and a member of L'Union St. Jean Baptiste Society.

Survivors include her three sons, Lawrence G. Beauregard and his wife, Silvia of Miami, Fla., Joseph R. Beauregard, MD and his wife, Barbara of Bonita Springs, Fla. and Raymond L. Beauregard and his wife, Dorothy of Rockville, Md.; her grandchildren, Michael Beauregard of So. Windsor, Conn., John Beauregard of Potomac, Md., Steve Beauregard and Robert Beauregard both of Malibu, Calif., Susan (Beauregard) Ebol of Santa Ana, Calif., Patricia (Beauregard) Biamonte of Apex, N.C., Larry Beauregard and Annette (Beauregard) Howe both of Miami, Fla.; her step- grandchildren, Ellen (Read) Davis of Evergreen, Colo., Jodi (Read) Petkovich, of Leesburg, Va., David Read of Bonita Springs, Fla., Edward Read of Waitsfield, Vt., and Daniel Read of Littleton, Colo.; 19 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 14, 2003, at noon in Holy Angels Catholic Church with the Reverend Maurice Roy celebrating a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in the Beauregard family lot in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105- 1905, or the Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children, 51 Blossom Street, Boston, MA 02114.

Arrangements are by the Heald Funeral Home, 87 So. Main St., St. Albans.

FREDERIKA NORTHROP SARGENT

The death of Frederika Northrop Sargent early on Monday, May 26, 2003, in North Carolina marks the close of a notable life spanning almost 100 years. Born on July 10, 1903, in Fairfield, Vt., she was the daughter of Peter Bent Brigham Northrop and Katherine Elnoria Smith Northrop. She was preceded in death by her parents, by her husband, Dr. Winston A.Y. Sargent, who passed away in 1996; and by two sisters, Mrs. Consuelo Northrop Bailey and Mrs. Mary Northrop Wallis.

Mrs. Sargent was widely known and the news of her death will be noted with sadness in Burnsville, N.C.; Fairfield, Arlington and Burlington, Vt. for she has added significantly to the life of each community (she and her husband Winston were Guests of Honor at the dedication of the Bent Northrop Memorial Library in Fairfield on October 2, 1988).

Mrs. Sargent received her early education in Fairfield and St. Albans schools. Prior to moving to North Carolina with her husband in 1953, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Vermont in 1926 and a Master of Science degree from Columbia University of Library Science in 1941.

She taught public school for three years in Arlington and for 14 years she was librarian at the University of Vermont in Burlington.

In 1952, she was elected to represent the town of Fairfield in the Vermont House of Representatives at the same time her sister, Mrs. Consuelo N. Bailey was Speaker of the House (later to become the first woman in the U.S. to be elected to the office of Lieutenant Governor).

Frederika was known to all as a teacher, librarian, nurse, licensed milk tester, and farm mechanic. She actively managed the family farm in North Fairfield for several years.

Every summer, including the summer of 2002, Mrs. Sargent returned to Vermont to enjoy the beauty of her mountains and the lake from a home she maintained in South Burlington.

All who knew her were enriched by her friendship and are invited to a graveside service to be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 12, at the Sheldon Village Cemetery, Sheldon Woods Road, Sheldon.

EVELYN KANE

ST. ALBANS -- Mrs. Evelyn Kane, age 91, died Monday afternoon, July 8, 2003, in the Holiday House Nursing Home following a long period of failing health. She was born in Chicago, Ill. Nov. 1, 1911, daughter of the late James and Sylvia (Bures) Kubin. Her husband, Charles Kane, died in 1982.

She is survived by her nephew, William Kubin of Port Matilda, Pa.; and her niece, Barbara Ann Rohrbach of Bourbonnais, Ill.; her special friend and care giver, Liette Charron and her family of Samson Point, St. Albans.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Brady & Levesque Chapel. Visitation for the public will be an hour prior to the services, in the funeral home, at 86 South Main St. Interment will be in the Kane family lot in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Lyceum Fund of Holiday House Nursing Home, 642 Sheldon Road, St. Albans, Vt. 05478.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.

EVERET R. JOHNSON

ST. ALBANS -- Everet R. Johnson, 80, passed away peacefully Friday, July 4, 2003, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care with his family at his side. He was born on March 4, 1923, in Rockford, Ill. the son of the late Simon and Olga (Sorderstrom) Johnson.

Everet graduated from Rockford High School in Rockford, Ill., then attended Bethel College and graduated from Augsburg College both in Minneapolis, Minn. He served with the United States Navy in the South Pacific during World War II. Everet and Laura moved to St. Albans in 1990 from Bridgeport, Conn. where he had served as director of the YMCA for 25 years. He was an accomplished pianist and a member of the First Baptist Church Choir. Since moving to St. Albans he was very active with local youth in softball pitching and was the softball pitching coach for Bellows Free Academy which recently brought three consecutive championships to St. Albans.

Survivors include his wife, Laura (Kohler) Johnson, of St. Albans; a son, Robert Johnson and his partner, Sonja Swanberg of Burlington; two brothers, the Reverend Roy Johnson and his wife, Joan, of Minneapolis, Minn. and the Reverend George Johnson and his wife, Dorothy, of Albany, Oregon; three sisters, Margaret Douglas and Ruth Jay both of Massillon, Ohio and Irene Ekland of Colfax, Wis.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 10, 2003, at 3 p.m. in the First Baptist Church, Congress Street with the Reverend William Simmons and his brother, the Reverend Roy Johnson co-officiating. His family will receive friends on Thursday from noon until 2 p.m. in the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans. Private interment services will be held at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph, with full military honors.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Everet R. Johnson Scholarship Fund, c/o Shirley Raymond, Bellows Free Academy, 71 South Main Street, St. Albans, Vt. 05478 to be used to help girls attend the Johnny Stratton Pitching Clinic.

EMILE C. DESRANLEAU

MILTON -- Emile C. Desranleau, 86, died unexpectedly Wednesday July 3, 2003 at his home in Milton. Emile was born in Westford on Jan. 28, 1917, the son of Edward and Caroline (Martell) Desranleau.

On March 26, 1940, he married Katherine R. Bushey in St. Ann's Catholic Church in Milton and together raised nine children.

Emile and his brother Jean started Desranleau Brothers Garage in 1938, which he ran for 40+ years. From 1947-1970 he maintained all of the Town of Milton's highway equipment. He was a 1947 graduate of the Kaiser and Frazer Motor Cars Service and Sales School at Willow Run, Michigan and a Kaiser and Frazer dealer in Milton. He taught his six sons and his grandsons his trade. He was a native speaker of the French Canadian language and loved to converse with others.

Emile had a strong love for animals and took in and fed every stray that came to his door. His favorite pastime was cutting wood. He was a very generous man. If you were in need of something and he had it, he would gladly give it to you. As a business man, his integrity towards fairness and honesty to his customers was of the utmost importance to him.

Emile was a true "Depression" child and it reflected in his lifestyle and many can attest to that. He was an avid card player and dancer and he and his wife Katherine attended many dances with friends.

Mr. Desranleau is survived by his children and spouses, Sally Lombard Young, Brian Desranleau and his wife Dale, John and his wife Annie, James and his wife Jill, Katherine Russell and her husband Thomas, Jacqueline Kendrew and her husband Gary, Daniel Desranleau and his wife Laura, all of Milton and Brent Desranleau and his wife Zonia of South Hero; by his daughter-in-law Jean Desranleau of Essex Junction; his grandchildren, Alton Lombard, Maria Lombard Gifford, Sonia Lombard Morgan, Andre Lombard, Pamela Randall, Jessica Desranleau, Carrie Hengle, Heather Crawford, Angela Ricci, Gerrit Desranleau, Erin Hibbard, Samantha and Dylan Desranleau, Denise Russell, Julie Phillips, Jennifer Kendrew and Victoria Desranleau; by 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Emile is also survived by his sisters, Irene Adams and her husband Kenneth of Milton, Alice Swan and her husband Robert of Colchester, his sister-in-law Shirley Desranleau of Milton; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife Katherine in 1994, his son Gary in 1999, his brother Jean in 1993 and two son-in-laws Alton Lombard Sr. and Robert Young.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated today, July 7, 2003, at 11 a.m. in St. Ann's Catholic Church in Milton. Burial followed in St. Ann's Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to either the Champlain Valley Agency on Aging, Meals on Wheels Program, P.O. Box 158, Winooski, Vt. 05404-0158, or to the V.N.A., Home Care Program, 1110 Prim Road, Colchester, Vt. 05446.

Visiting hours were held Sunday evening in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton from 6 to 9 p.m. A wake service was held Sunday evening by Rev. Fr. John Feltz at 8:45 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home.

MARGARET ANN "SISTER" DIXON

BURLINGTON/ST. ALBANS -- Margaret Ann Dixon, 73, passed away on Saturday evening, Jan. 18, 2003, in the Birchwood Terrace Healthcare following a long illness. She was born in Burlington, April 12, 1929, the daughter of the late Clark and Bertha (Blake) Dixon.

Sister was a 1947 graduate of Bellows Free Academy where she was an Allstate Basketball player. She was employed for many years as a secretary for the Central Vermont Railway and then as a staff assistant at IBM.

Survivors include her brother, Gerald Dixon and his wife, Jeannette of Fort Myers, Fla.; two nieces, Suanne Beyda of Washington D.C. and Jennifer Dixon of Weston, Va.; several cousins, including, Art Heald and Patty Earle, both of St. Albans; and a special cousin, David Vincent of St. Albans and Melbourne Beach, Fla., who cared for her needs since her illness.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 11, 2003, at 11 a.m. in the Heald Funeral Chapel, 87 South Main Street, with the Reverend Dennis E. Hayward, Rector of St. Luke's Episcopal Church officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot in St. Albans Bay Cemetery.

Arrangements are by the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main St., St. Albans.

STANLEY H. BENTON

MILTON/ST. ALBANS -- Stanley H. Benton died July 5, 2003, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care following a brief illness. He was born in Wilder, Vt., April 19, 1917, the son Ralph and Bertha (Jones) Benton of Windsor, Vt. where he graduated from the Windsor High School. He graduated from Northampton Commercial College in 1939 where he met his wife, Dorothy Gilchrist who predeceased him on April 27, 1980.

Mr. Benton served as a radio operator for Immigration during World War II, then moved into accounting where he worked for several years in Burlington. A long time St. Albans resident, Stanley completed a 43-year career with the Department of Immigration and Naturalization in 1982. He was an avid sportsman and gardener, and won many bowling trophies for the Immigration team in Burlington. He was also a former president of the St. Albans Chapter of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and a longtime member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in St. Albans.

Survivors include a son, Stanley Jr. and his wife, Dawn, of Milton; a daughter, Diane Hance and her husband, Tom, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; as well a three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2003, at 2 p.m. in the Heald Funeral Chapel, 87 South Main St., St. Albans with the Reverend Oren Lane officiating. Interment will be in the Benton family lot in Greenwood Cemetery.

His family will receive friends on Tuesday from noon until the time of the service.
