LYLE F. LAUGHLIN

LONG BEACH, MS/GEORGIA -- Mr. Lyle F. Laughlin, age 73, a resident of Long Beach, died in Gulfport, Ms. July 15, 2003. He was born in Georgia, March 8, 1930, son of the late Forrest and Dorothy (Raymond) Laughlin.

He was a flight sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. During the Korean War he flew missions all over the world. He was employed by General Dynamics in New York and for North American Rockwell at the Mississippi Test Facility. He remained on the coast and was self-employed. Later, he was a field engineer for Badger America and was deployed to Johannesburg, South Africa. Upon return he worked for Barnard and Burk out of Baton Rouge, La., where he air traveled all over the world, retiring after 18 years. He was a Korean Veteran and a member of the VFW and Elks Clubs.

He is survived by his wife Liz Laughlin of Long Beach, Ms.; seven sons, David, Douglas, Donald Derek, Darren, Daniel and Jeff Laughlin; his two sisters, Helen Maynard of Burlington and Joyce and her husband Joseph Kubas of St. Albans; a sister-in-law, Lucy Laughlin of Fort Jennings, Ohio; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Duane; daughter, Debbie Marcott; and four brothers, Walter, Dale, Robert and Tom Laughlin.

A Memorial Service was held in Long Beach on July 19, 2003. Graveside funeral services will be held Monday, Aug. 18, at 11 a.m. in Hope Cemetery in Georgia.

Local arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.

ARCH S. WARDEN

ST. ALBANS -- Arch S. Warden of Bosque Farms, New Mexico passed away peacefully on Aug. 11, 2003, in St. Albans, in the company of his family. He continues his journey that recently included travel across country to Vermont by motor home with his son and beloved granddaughter.

Arch was born in Barryville, N.Y. on Nov. 21, 1914, to John and Jenny Warden, who had emigrated from Scotland. He was a partner in a restaurant in Port Jervis, N.Y. when he met his wife and life-long partner Eva. The were married on Jan. 23, 1943. He served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the AAF 1152nd Base Unit first in the glider Pilot program training in New Mexico, then as a Radio Operator aboard B-25s at Naples Foggia, North Apennines, and Southern France Theatres.

Arch resumed his business career in 1946 as Sales Manager for Xcelite, Inc., a tool manufacturing company. He became President of Xcelite in 1963, and helped orchestrate the transition of the company from a small business to an internationally recognized leader in the electronics industry. He retired in 1973 when the company was purchased. Cooper Industries continues to market Xcelite tools worldwide today.

Arch enjoyed and was enjoyed by many people in his life, owing in large part to his nature as a true gentleman. He was passionate about golf, traveled extensively to every corner of the globe, and had many tales left to tell of his around-the-world adventures with Eva. He readily embraced computer technology and mountain biking well into his 80s and inspired those around him with a youthful enthusiasm and curiosity about everything that belied his advancing years. His passing was with the same grace and dignity as his life.

Arch's parents John and Jenny Warden; his brother Bill Warden and wife Kay; brother Ian Warden of New York; grandson Jacob Warden of Vermont, and his wife Eva Colby Warden of New Mexico, predeceased him. He does leave behind two sons and their families: Peter and Connie Warden and granddaughter Emily of St. Albans, and Brian and Laura Warden and granddaughters Jessica, Allison, Elizabeth and Elena of Bosque Farms, New Mexico; his sister-in-law, Miriam and her husband, Harrison "Phil" Phillips of Englewood, Fla.; sister-in-law, Mary Jane Warden Lackemann of Inverness, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial celebration of Arch's life will begin with brunch at 11 a.m. at the Encore Bella Restaurant, 28 North Main St., in St. Albans on Sunday, Aug. 17, for family and friends of the family.

DELIA (ROBERTS) NOKES

BERLIN -- Delia (Roberts) Nokes, 77, died peacefully at her home in Berlin on Sunday, August 10, 2003, joining her family in heaven. She was the beloved wife for 45 years of Leigh Nokes of Berlin.

Born and raised in Swanton, daughter of the late Adelard and Nelida (Garceau) Roberts, she was a Berlin resident since 1958 and was a member of Sacred Heart Church, East Berlin. A very devoted special education driver, she drove children for the Town of Berlin for many years.

A loving mother and grandmother, she leaves her four children, Gary Nokes of Fairfax, VT, Carol (Nokes) Doyle and her husband David Doyle, of New Britain, Conn., Alan Nokes of Kensington Conn. and Wayne Nokes and his wife Tracy (Salsbury) of Bristol, Conn. She also leaves eight grandchildren that she loved so dearly, Heather, Melissa, Rachel, Rebecca, Colin and Cecilia Nokes, Richard Martel, and Alex Doyle. She is also survived by her sisters, Eva (Roberts) Brosseau and her husband Paul Brosseau, of Highgate Falls, VT, and Lena (Roberts) Gadouas, of Swanton, VT; her brother-in-law Arthur Nokes Jr. and his wife Gladys Nokes of Swanton, VT; sister-in-law Norma Nokes-Bentley, and her husband the Rev. Philip Bentley of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; nieces and nephews and their families, Anne Getty, Arthur Eberhardt, Muriel Gerard, George Eberhardt, Albert Gadeaus, Marcel Gadeaus, Jim Nokes, Linda Casperson, Wendell Roberts, Linda Parah, Laura Simon, Jay Britch, Sally Carney, and Sue Foster.

She was predeceased by her sister Leona (Roberts) Rainville and her husband Harvey Rainville, and her brothers Homer Roberts and Henry Roberts and his wife Myrtle, all of Swanton, VT.

Her funeral service will be Thursday, Aug. 14, at 9 a.m. from the Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington, Conn., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, East Berlin. Interment will be private in Maple Cemetery, Berlin.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Wednesday from 5 to 9 p.m. at Newington Memorial.

CECILIA J. AAMODT

BARNESVILLE, Minn. -- Cecilia J. Aamodt, 92 of Barnesville, Minn., died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003, in Innovis Hospital, Fargo.

Funeral Mass was held Monday, Aug. 11, at 11 a.m. in Assumption Catholic Church, Barnesville with Father Joseph Kieselbach presiding. Phyllis Peppel served as Cantor and the Assumption Church Choir sang, accompanied by organist Eloise Sobtzak. Pallbearers were Ken Just, Huck Arneson, Howard Schindler, Larry Rogers, Brian Hovland, Scott Jerald, Frank Schindler and John Hough. Honorary Pallbearers were The Lady Foresters of Assumption Parish. Visitation was held Sunday, from 4 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 and a Rosary at 7:30 in Dobmeier Funeral home, Barnesville. Interment was in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Barnesville.

Cecilia, daughter of John and Minnie (Palmer) Grommesh, was born March 11, 1911, in Barnesville. She attended school and grew to womanhood in Barnesville, graduating from Barnesville High School in 1929. She worked for the Nelson Five and Dime in Barnesville.

She married Percy Aamodt on May 26, 1931, in Barnesville. The couple made their home in Barnesville where she worked for Lake's Café in Barnesville. She later worked for the Zimmerman's and the Dobmeier's in the Ben Franklin Store in Barnesville. She worked for Oscar and Julia Aamodt in Aamodt's Clothing Store, Barnesville and she worked for Monty Sheffer and Dick Sylvester in their Clothing Store in Barnesville.

Mr. Aamodt died in 1985. She continued to live in Barnesville and in 1998 became a resident of the Barnesville Good Samaritan Center where she lived until the time of her death.

Ce was a life long member of the Assumption Catholic Church and St. Ann's Guild. She was a member of the Lady Foresters for more than 50 years. She enjoyed embroidering, crossword puzzles and playing cards.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Twylah Aamodt of Swanton, Vt.; four grandchildren, Loree (Greg) Garceau of St. Albans, Vt., Michael Aamodt, Jolea (Randy) Reed and Kristie Aamodt all of Swanton; one great-grandchild, Jarrett James Reed; one sister, Mildred (Rob) Schindler of Barnesville; and one sister-in-law, Laverne Grommesh of Barnesville. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Ce is preceded in by her parents; her husband; her son James; and one other son who died in infancy; her granddaughter Tammy; and her brother Ken.

COACH FRANK EARL SHUMWAY SR.

SOUTH HERO, Vt. / HOLIDAY, Fla. -- Coach Frank Earl Shumway, Sr., 81, a longtime resident of the Lake Champlain Island Community in Vermont and the Rouses Point and Champlain New York areas and more recently of Holiday, Fla. died Friday morning, Aug. 8, 2003, in the Helen Ellis Memorial Hospital in Tarpon Springs, Fla.

He was born in North Hampton, Mass., Jan. 30, 1922, the son of the late Leon and Rena (Versailles) Shumway. In 1948 he married the former Reba Lavigne of South Hero, Vt., who survives him.

Mr. Shumway graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Massachusetts in 1949 and received his Master Degree graduating from the University of Indiana. He spent all of his working life in the field of education and will be best remembered as a teacher, coach and athletic director at the former Rouses Point High School and later at North Eastern Clinton High School in Champlain, New York.

Mr. Shumway faithfully served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He fought in the North African Campaign and was wounded in Italy.

In addition to his wife Reba of Holiday, Fla., Mr. Shumway leaves his daughter, Lynn Perrin and her husband Craig of Bartlett, Ill.; two sons, Frank Shumway, Jr. and his companion Kathryn Eaton of Swanton and Scott Shumway and his wife Beate of Grand Isle. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Blaise and his wife Elisa, Blade, Brock, Kaitlyn, Christian, Cassidy, Corey, Shane and Cameron; as well as a brother-in-law John McDonald of Holyoke, Mass.; and his two sons, Thomas and Kevin McDonald of Washington, D.C.

A son, Craig Shumway predeceased him in 1992, and a sister, Connie McDonald.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, Aug. 14, 2003, at 11 a.m. from St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Vermont Route 2, South Hero. Father Maurice U. Boucher, SSE director of St. Anne's Shrine in Isle La Motte will be the celebrant and homilist. Interment will follow in the Shumway family lot in the South Hero Village Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton on Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2003, fro 4 to 8 p.m.

Gifts in Mr. Shumway's memory may be made to the charity of your choice.

TERRANCE ROLAND TETRAULT

ST. ALBANS CITY - Terrance Roland Tetrault, 59, a longtime St. Albans City resident died Tuesday afternoon, August 5, 2003 in the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility in Burlington.

Terry was born in St. Albans, Nove. 14, 1943, the son of the late Roland and Doris (Hemingway) Tetrault. He was raised and educated in the Leominster, Mass. area returning back to St. Albans in February of 1969.

He was associated for many years as a salesman for Handy Dodge and also worked for 14 years, traveling as a store designer for Aubuchon Hardware. More recently he drove truck for several trucking companies including, Independent Foods. He was a very active member of Holy Angels Roman Catholic Parish serving as Minister of the Altar for funerals, counting the weekly collections, making rosarys and volunteering his services in may other ways. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 297 and Fourth Degree, Assembly 1149 both of St. Albans.

He will always be remembered as avid Hockey Dad and Hockey Fan who was always there to support his sons. He also loved to cook.

He leaves his former wives, Cheryl Arbuckle of Highgate and Caroline (Jeannine) Libbey of Enosburg and their children together; Stephen Metcalf, Carl Tetrault, Marissa Metcalf, Dawn Tetrault, Rhonda Sim, Lori McClellan, Amanda Metcalf and Derek and Mark Tetrault; grandchildren, Caleb, Colby, Josh, Heaven, Avery, Jay, Christopher, Allison, Ritchie, Tamika and Christy. He is also survived by his sister Shelia O'Connor of Massachusetts and very special friends, Sister Margaret Mary CSC, Theresa Demaris and Joanne Demaris all of Saint Albans as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many additional friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, Aug. 8, 2003, at 4 p.m. from Holy Angels Roman Catholic Church, Lake Street, St. Albans City. The pastor, Father Maurice J. Roy will be the celebrant and homilist. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue; Swanton on Friday from 2 to 3 p.m. Gifts in Terry's memory may be made to The Tetrault family, P.O. Box 1164, St. Albans 05478 to be used for Terry's favorite local charities.

VIOLA M. (BAILEY) HAYWARD

EAST WALPOLE, Mass./ST. ALBANS - Viola M. Hayward, 76, passed away June 26, 2003, in New England Sinai Hospital in Stoughton, Mass. following a battle with a respiratory illness.

Viola was born in St. Albans, Vt., on Sept. 17, 1926, the daughter of the late Prosper H. and Mabel (Thibault) Bailey.

Viola had lived in East Walpole for the last 48 years. She loved to play bingo, crochet, go fishing (especially on Lake Champlain in St. Albans Bay) and take walks in Bird Park in East Walpole.

Viola was the wife of the late Aubrey Hayward; and mother of the late Aubrey "James" Hayward, and daughters Deborah and Cindy Haward of East Walpole, and son Timothy Hayward and his wife, Doreen, of West Quincy, Mass.

She was the sister of Leonard Bailey and his wife, Dorothy, Prosper Bailey and his wife, Shirley, of St. Albans, Richard Bailey and his wife, Wendy, of Wrentham, Mass., and the late Ralph E. Bailey of St. Albans and Robert Bailey of Norwood, Mass. She also leaves her aunt Gertrude Johnson of Seattle, Wash. and sister-in-law Doris Bailey of St. Albans, and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass was celebrated on July 1 at St. Mary's Church in East Walpole. Burial was in Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton, Mass.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to the American lung Association, 25 Spring St., Walpole, Mass, or the charity of one's choice.

Arrangements were by the Ginley Funeral Home, Walpole, Mass.
