SHEILA FINN-HERSCHEL

NEW ORLEANS, La. -- Sheila Finn-Herschel, age 39, and formerly of Lewiston, N.Y., died July 4, 2003, at her home in New Orleans, La. Sheila was born March 9, 1964, in Pittsburgh, Pa., to Jane (LeClair) Finn and the late R. James Finn.

In addition to her mother, Sheila is survived by her husband of 16 years, U.S. Navy Lt. Commander David Herschel; her children, Keegan and Radleigh; five sisters, Maureen, Megan, Kerry Finn, Kathleen (John) Scalfani of Lewiston, N.Y., and Jane (Rodney) Eckstein of St. Louis, Mo.; two brothers, James (Jan) of Mill Valley, Calif., and Timothy (Lauren) Finn of Liberty, Mo.; many nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as many aunts and uncles, seven of whom live in Franklin County, Vt.: John and Betty Finn, Richard and Marilyn LeClair, Robert and Beverly LeClair, all of St. Albans, and Charlotte Pudvah of Bakersfield.

Funeral services were held July 10, 2003, at St. Mary Magdelen Church in Brentwood, Mo.

MELISSA McGINN SULLIVAN

GEORGIA SHORE - Melissa McGinn Sullivan, 35, died unexpectedly in her sleep Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2003. She was born in Maddison Heights, Mich., on June 1, 1968, the much loved daughter of E. Michael and Joanne (Benoit) McGinn.

Melissa graduated from Bellows Free Academy, St. Albans, in 1986, where she excelled in basketball under the coaching and loving care of Jim Bashaw. She furthered her education and basketball experience at Merrimack College in Andover, Mass., upgrading to a full scholarship through dedication and hard work in basketball. She earned a degree in sociology in 1990. She married Richard F. Sullivan Jr. on Aug. 22, 1992, and they resided in Haverhill, Mass., until Mr. Sullivan's demise Aug. 6, 1996.

She then returned to Vermont and became office manager for McGuel's Irish Burro Cafe in St. Albans and was planning to open a market for her famous PEPPER JELLY recipe. She was a communicant of Holy Angels parish. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, gardening and making her PEPPER JELLY. Melissa was an extremely devoted mother to her two sons, Michael Paul, 10, and Joseph Edward Sullivan, 8.

Besides her sons, she is survived by her loving parents, E. Michael and Joanne McGinn of Georgia; her sister, Megan McGinn and her husband, Nathan Patenaude; her brother Matthew and his wife, Jennifer McGinn; two nieces, Malone Erin and Maren Elizabeth McGinn, all of St. Albans; her father-in-law, Richard F. Sullivan Sr. of Haverhill, Mass.; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Michael Edward McGinn on March 23, 1991; her maternal grandparents, Omer and Lucille Benoit; paternal grandparents Edward and Gladys McGinn; and her mother-in-law, Irene Sullivan.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, Sept. 15, at 11 a.m. in Holy Angels Church. Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., St. Albans, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday. Interment will be in the McGinn family lot in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Richard F. Sullivan Jr. and Melissa McGinn Sullivan Memorial Trust for Michael Paul Sullivan and Joseph Edward Sullivan, P.O. Box 932, St. Albans, Vt. 05478.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, St. Albans.

VIRGINIA M. DOMINA

ENOSBURG FALLS -- Virginia M. Domina, age 89, passed away Wednesday morning, Sept. 10, 2003, at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans. She was born April 1, 1914, in North Troy, the daughter of the late Edward Maynard and Lea Jasmin.

She spent her childhood in North Troy and married Harry L. Domina, Sept. 29, 1930, at which time they resided in Montgomery and Berkshire. In her later years, she resided at Riverview Apartments in Enosburg Falls, Our Lady of the Meadows in Richford, and for the past year at Holiday House Nursing Home in St. Albans. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Church in Enosburg Falls.

Virginia enjoyed playing BINGO and cards, also spending time traveling and walking. Most of all, she enjoyed being with her family and they will always remember her for having a smile or hearing her laugh and being a wonderful mother and grandmother.

She is survived by two sons, Earl Domina of Belvidere and Edward Domina and his wife Nancy of Conway, N.H.; two daughters, Yvonne Woodward and her husband Doug of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Rita Tipper and her husband Bob of Berkshire; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; a half-sister, Matilda Pudvah of North Troy. She was predeceased by her husband, Harry Domina, July 3, 1976; a grandson, Lyle Woodward, Feb. 1, 2003; a daughter-in-law, Ethelyn Domina, Sept. 22, 2002; two sisters, Evelyn Horn and Mary Santaw; and a half-brother, Wilfred Gosley.

Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 10 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Enosburg Falls with Reverend Benedict Kelly celebrating the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. Isidores Cemetery in Montgomery Center.

Visiting hours will be held this evening from 6 to 9 at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls.

JOHN R. VAUDRIEN

BRISTOL -- John R. Vaudrien, 65, died Thursday, Sept. 11, 2003, in Bristol. He was born on May 10, 1938, in St. Albans, the son of Frank J. and Hazel (Tallman) Vaudrien.

John retired from the U.S. Army as a sergeant in 1975. He was employed at Pike Industries Inc. in New Haven for 13 years.

John is survived by his wife Kathleen (Hart) Vaudrien of Bristol; five children, Steven Volk and his fiancée Tammy Brouillard of New Haven, Jennifer and husband Paul Hall of Calif., John R Vaudrien and his wife Rose of Bristol, Nicole Pisciota and husband John of Fla., and Rebecca Vaudrien of MO.; 17 grandchildren; five sisters, Beverly Nolan of Va., Rose Mary Minor of St. Albans, Carol Dickison of Ill., Janet Vaudrien of R.I. and Patty Vaudrien of N.C.; brother Armond Vaudrien of Ala.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Sept. 15, at 11:30 a.m. at the Victory Baptist Church in Vergennes. Interment will be in Sunset Cemetery in Waltham.

Friends may call at the Victory Baptist Church Monday from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Brown-McClay Funeral Home in Bristol is in charge of arrangements.

DENNIS N. KANE

EAST FAIRFIELD - Dennis N. Kane, 72, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2003. He was born May 11, 1931, in Sheldon, the son of the late Roscoe and Imelda (Gervais) Kane.

Dennis was a 1949 graduate of Enosburg Falls High School. Following high school, he went on to serve his country with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.

On Nov. 14, 1958, he married Joy Casavant. Dennis and Joy owned and operated a dairy farm in East Fairfield for 23 years, retiring in 1984. Following retirement he was employed by Bourdeau Brothers Grain Co. in Sheldon, retiring earlier this year.

Dennis was actively involved in local politics, including, serving on the Fairfield School Board for nine years, Fairfield Selectman for six years, and many years as the Zoning Administrator. He was also a strong supporter of the Franklin County Home Health Agency, having served on their board of directors.

He was also a member of the Enosburg Lions Club for 18 years and was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellow in 2001, a former member of the board of directors of the Franklin County Field Days. He belonged to the V.F.W. Robert Glidden Post in St. Albans and the American Legion Post 42 in Enosburg Falls. He was a member of St. Anthony's-St. George's Catholic Church in East Fairfield.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Joy (Casavant) Kane of East Fairfield; their five children and their spouses, Laurie and Vincent Chaloux of St. Albans, Scott and Diane Kane of West Granby, Conn., Kevin and Penny Kane of Fletcher, Candy and Steve LaCombe of Mechanicsville, Va., and Shana Kane and Andy Bushey of Anchorage, Alaska; his grandchildren, Tiffany Gagne and her husband James, Nikki Chaloux, Roscoe, Arland "Buddy" Shannon, and Megan Kane, Luke Livingston, Hannah and Andrew LaCombe, and Claire Bushey; a great-granddaughter, Kya Gagne; three brothers, George Kane and his wife Rolande, of Franklin, Patrick Kane of Deland, Fla., and Ralph Kane of Sheldon; two sisters, Carmen Florence Prive and her husband, Joseph, of Inverness, Fla., and Gertrude Kane of Burlington; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Irmalee Kane of Sheldon, Cecile Casavant of Fairfield, Ralph and Kay Casavant of Enosburg Falls, Jill Caswell of Fairfield, and Ridgley and Donna Casavant of Enosburg Falls; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Marcel Kane; and a sister, Irene LaRose-Jeffords.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Sept. 15, at 11 a.m. in St. Patrick Catholic Church in Fairfield with the Reverend Joseph Sullivan celebrating the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Enosburg Falls.

Visiting hours will be held Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls.

RAYMOND ALLEN COBURN

SHELDON -- Raymond Allen Coburn, age 17, died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2003, in the Fletcher Allen Hospital following a very sudden illness. He was born in San Diego, Calif., April 4, 1986, and was a junior at the Missisquoi Valley Union High School.

Allen was employed by MACRO International in St. Albans and was very involved with the Martial Arts. He received his Blue Belt in Taekwon-Do and was a National Amateur Athletic Union champion. His hobbies included drawing, photography and skateboarding.

Allen's survivors include his mother Vanessa R.(Reeves) Coburn and step-father Guy Lee Laplant of Sheldon; his father Michael J. Coburn of Swanton and step-mother Nancy J. Manosh of Grand Isle; brother Matthew Oneil Coburn and sister Mariyah Nicole Draper, both of Sheldon; maternal grandparents Elwyn Nathan and Regina Frances Reeves of San Diego, Calif.; great-grandmother Frances Bournes of Florida; paternal grandfather Larry W. Coburn and his friend Phyllis of Swanton; great-grandmother Ethel Coburn of Waterville; aunts and uncles Andrea and Marty Lauderdale, Kelly Reeves, John Reeves, Bruce and Laura Miller; cousins Alexis, Nia and Chaz Lauderdale, Cianna Reeves, Brandon, Evan and Megan Miller; special friends Trevor and Evan Marsha; and his little friend, Shelby Meunier; and many extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his maternal great-grandfather Matthew Reeves; paternal grandmother Sandra L. Coburn; and great-grandfather Raymond Coburn.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Brady & Levesque Funeral Chapel. Friends may call at the funeral home, 86 S. Main St., St. Albans, from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday. Interment will be in the family lot in Sheldon Village Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the R. Allen Coburn Taekwon-Do Memorial Fund, 29 Sheldon Woods Rd., Sheldon, Vt. 05483.

LUCIEN OVIDE DESLANDES

SWANTON -- Mr. Lucien Deslandes, 93, of North River Road, passed away peacefully late Tuesday evening, Sept. 9, 2003, at The Holiday House Nursing Facility surrounded by family and friends.

He was born in Saint Dominique, Quebec Canada, Oct. 15, 1909, the son of the late Joseph and Corinne (Beauchemin) Deslandes the youngest of eight children. He attended schools in Orleans County Vermont and on May 20, 1939 married the former Laurianne Marie Meunier who predeceased him, Oct. 9, 1998 after 59 years of marriage.

Lucien was a longtime parishioner of The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. He was a cattle dealer for many years and later along with his wife owned and operated a meat market in South Troy, Vermont. In 1966 they moved to Swanton where they owned and operated Laurianne's Riverview Restaurant until their retirement in 1985. During his retirement he always had a large garden, which he took great pleasure in. He also greatly enjoyed the company of his two faithful Pekinese dogs "Peanut" and "Queenie."

He faithfully served his country in the United States Navy during World War II and was honorably discharged on June 30, 1944.

Lucien is survived by his three children, Norman Deslandes of Swanton, Jeanine Cook and her husband Donald of Antioch, Calif. and Lucy LaPan and her husband Randy of Swanton; four grandchildren, Donna Cook Miller, Dale Cook, Michael LaPan and Ashley LaPan; four great-grandchildren, Jessica Miller, Noah, Lucas and Andrew Cook; as well as three step-grandchildren, and several step-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Fern Meunier of Newport, Vermont, and Marie Meunier of East Hartford, Conn.; and many nieces, nephews; and a special friend, Paul Boudreau.

Lucien was predeceased by his seven brothers and sisters.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003, at 11 a.m. from The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 65 Canada Street, Swanton Village. The pastor Father John J. Meagher, SSE will be the celebrant and homilist. Interment with full military honors will follow in the Deslandes family lot in Riverside Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton on Friday, Sept. 12, 2003, from 6 to 9 p.m.

Gifts in Mr. Deslandes' memory may be made to Missisquoi Valley Rescue, P.O. Box 22, Swanton, Vt. 05488.
