DEBORAH WHITNEY McDONALD

ST. ALBANS -- Deborah Whitney McDonald, 48, a devoted mother and grandmother, passed away unexpectedly Friday, Oct. 17, 2003, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care with her loving family at her side. She was born in St. Albans, Dec. 10, 1954, the daughter of William Harold and Lucy (McKinstry) Whitney.

Deborah graduated from Bellows Free Academy in 1972. She worked for several years at the Community Shelter Services in Pennsylvania as a counselor, and more recently had been employed by Peerless Clothing. She was an avid bingo player and was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous and was very proud of her 20 years of sobriety. Her number one joy in life was her family.
Deborah is survived by her mother, Lucy Dennis of St. Albans; her two daughters, Colleen McDonald and her boyfriend, John Garrett of Swanton, and Shannon McDonald-Ross and her husband, Jamie Ross, Jr. of St. Albans; three grandchildren, Jordan and Johnny Ross and Gavin Snyder; her friend and former husband, Joseph McDonald of Erie, Penn.; her sister, Patricia (Whitney) Asselin and her husband, Ronald of West Hartford, Conn.; her brother, Ted Whitney and his wife, Kathy of Bakersfield; an aunt, Hazel Westcot of Franklin; her half- sisters, Donna, Becky, Laurie and Kim; and a half-brother, Joe; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She also leaves a special friend, David Sullivan and his son Donald. Debbie was predeceased by her father, William Harold Whitney; her sister, Margaret (Whitney) Tatro; and her brother Mark Whitney.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003, at 11 a.m. in the Heald Funeral Chapel, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans, with the Reverend Maurice J. Roy, pastor of Holy Angels Church officiating. Debbie's family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

Interment will follow in the family lot in Greenwood Cemetery.

RAYMOND R. BOUTIN

ALBURG -- Raymond Richard Boutin, 62, of Alburg, Vt., left this earth to go to a far better place on Oct. 17, 2003. He was born on Oct. 5, 1941, in Burlington, Vt.
He leaves his wife Connie and eight children and their spouses, Daniel and Kathy Boutin of Milton, Vt., Denise Boutin and her husband, Walter Decker, of Grand Isle, Vt., Nicole and Bill Forkey of Rouses Point, N.Y., Noel and Stephanie Boutin of Westford, Vt., Laura and Jeff Valley of Burlington, Vt., Michelle and Rick Henderson of North Branford, Conn., Elise and Greg Alling of Essex Junction, Vt., Jeremy Boutin and his friend Kristy Hancox of Burlington, Vt.; three stepchildren, Chris and Teresa Goodsell, Matt Goodsell and Allen and Amanda Goodsell; 12 grandchildren, Austin and Brianna Forkey, Kaylee, Sierra and Tristan Boutin, Connor and Sophie Decker, Ethan Boutin, Benjamin and Jackson Valley, Alex and Dillon Goodsell. He also leaves his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Madeline and Roland Pearo of Alburg.
Raymond was predeceased by his wife, Donna Boutin, on Aug. 7, 1986; and by his parents, Alphonse and Helen Boutin.
He was a devoted member of St. Amadeus Parish in Alburg, Vt. and is well loved for the weekly rosaries that he led at St. Anne's Shrine and the hard work and devotion to his parish and community.
Raymond also enjoyed working in his garden, fishing, cooking and taking small trips in the area. He worked very hard in the early years of his life establishing a small local machine shop and continued to assist in its development.
His first love was for his wonderful family and especially spending time with his very special grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003, at 11 a.m. from The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, (for reasons of space), 65 Canada Street, Swanton Village. Father Maurice U. Boucher, SSE will be the celebrant and The Reverend Mr. Alan Vincelette the homilist. Interment will follow in the Boutin family lot in St. Amadeus Cemetery Alburg.

Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton today, Oct. 20, 2003, from 4 to 8 p.m.

Gifts in Raymond's memory may be made to St. Amadeus Roman Catholic Parish, in Alburg, Vt., or the American Cancer Society, Vt. Division, 11 Loomis St., Montpelier, Vt. 05602-3021.

DOROTHY A. STANNARD

ST. ALBANS -- Mrs. Dorothy Ann Stannard, age 70, died Friday, Oct. 17, 2003, at her home, on the anniversary of her husband's death. She was born in Burlington, Nov. 21, 1932, daughter of the late Leroy and Grace (Davidson) Giffin.
Dorothy was married to Raymond C. Stannard, May 11, 1968. Coincidentally, Raymond died Oct. 17, 1996. She was educated as a nurse and later a paralegal and worked at law firms in the St. Albans area for several years.
Dorothy will be remembered as having her own reserved seat at the Red Top Restaurant for most of her meals.
Her survivors include her sister-in-law, Mary Tuure of Maine; brothers-in-law and their wives, John and Emma Stannard of New Hampshire and Florida, Richard and Margaret "Peg" Stannard of Manchester and Florida; her special friends, Lorraine McMahon, Chief Clifford and Trudy Patterson, David and Diane Quebec, Marilyn Letourneau and her staff at the Red Top Restaurant; several nieces and nephews; and her two precious cats, Beegee and Tiki.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, 2003, in Holy Angels Church. There will be no public calling hours.
Interment will be in the Stannard family lot in Colchester Village Cemetery.
Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Franklin County Humane Society, P.O. Box 1031, St. Albans, Vt. 05478.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.

INEZ A. AIKEN

NORTH BENNINGTON -- Mrs. Inez A. Aiken, 79, wife of Leslie H. "Tom" Aiken, a former resident of Route 67A, in North Bennington, died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2003, at Crescent Manor Care Centers following a long illness.
Born in Fletcher, Vt., Oct. 1, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Joseph E. and Gertrude (Dunham) LaPlant. She received her education in the North Cambridge, Vt. schools.
Mr. and Mrs. Aiken were married Feb. 25, 1946, in Cambridge.
In earlier years, Mrs. Aiken was employed as a nurses aide and in the housekeeping department at Sourdiffe Nursing Home and later at Crescent Manor Nursing Home.
Mrs. Aiken enjoyed swimming and reading. Her home and family were her main interests.
Survivors, beside her husband of Bennington, include three daughters, Darlene Harwood and Shirley Lacross, both of Bennington, and Kuloa Grover of North Bennington; two sons, David LaPlant of North Bennington, and Leslie H. Aiken of Pownal; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Aiken was predeceased by a son, Alvin Aiken; and several brothers and sisters.
Burial will take place in the family lot in Binghamville Cemetery in Fletcher where committal services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 21, at 12 p.m.
Should friends desire, contributions in memory of Mrs. Aiken may be made to the family for a memorial through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, Vt. 05201.

LULA IRENE SIMONDS

LEMPSTER, N.H. -- Lula Irene Simonds, 78, of Lempster Street, Lempster, N.H., died Friday evening, Oct. 17, 2003, at Integrated Health Services of New Hampshire in Claremont.
She was born in Waterville, Vt. on April 21, 1925, the daughter of Chester Sumner and Laura Mae (Eldred) Wright. She had resided in Lempster since 1997, and previously lived in Unity for 20 years, and Montgomery, Vt. for 30 years. She worked at Hampshire Mfg. Co. in the Packing Department for two years. She enjoyed flowers, cooking, the birds, and animals.
The surviving family includes her husband, George W. Simonds of Lempster, whom she married on Oct. 30, 1990; eight daughters, Laura Britton of Keene, twins, Ila Wilson of Ontario, Canada, and Lila Elkins of Montgomery, Vt., Donna Armstrong of Champlain, N.Y., Pauline Domina of Richford, Vt., Betty Kidder of Thornton, Colo., Ann Roy of Springfield, Vt., and Brenda Seymour of Unity, N.H.; five sons, Walter Garrow of Windsor, Vt., Ralph Garrow of Richford, Vt., Dale Garrow and Scott Garrow, both of Claremont, and Steve Simonds of Lempster; 27 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson; two sisters, Ila Bowdish of Middlebury, Vt.; and Velma St. Jock of Troy, N.Y.; also several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by one daughter, Katherine Garrow in 1953.
Friends were able to call at the Stringer Funeral Home in Lempster, N.H. on Sunday evening, Oct. 19, 2003, and this afternoon from 12 p.m. until the time of the service. The funeral services were held this afternoon (Monday) at 1 p.m. at the Funeral Home, with Pastor Pat Hoadley of the Assembly of God Church in East Berkshire, Vt. Interment followed in Lempster Cemetery.
Donations can be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society, Northern New England Region, The Gail Singer Memorial Building, 360 Route 101, Unit #8, Bedford, N.H. 03110.

SHIRLEY JANE MARTIN BEVINS

ST. ALBANS -- Shirley Jane Martin Bevins, 67, a native of St. Albans and longtime resident of White River Junction, passed away peacefully at her home in St. Albans on Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003. She was born in St. Albans, Oct. 15, 1936, the daughter of the late Sheridan Paul Martin and Lillian Irene (Sturgeon) Martin.

While living in White River Junction, she belonged to the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Eagles Club.

Shirley is survived by eight children, Karen Jane, Harvey Lawrence, Kimberly Ann, Anna Lisa, Stanley Orville, Byron Harold, Shelly Mae and Sonya Marie; brothers and sisters, Cora Bessie and her husband, Warner, Betty Lou (Martin) Hotte and her husband, Norman of Chicopee, Mass., Marion June (Martin) Greenier of Chicopee, Mass., Richard Gordon Martin of South Royalton, Vt., Augusta Rose (Martin) Poquette of Vista, Calif., Joseph Daniel Martin of Holyoke, Mass.; and several grandchildren, including a very special and beloved grandson, Jonathan. She will be missed by her many friends in White River Junction.

She was predeceased by her parents, Sheridan who died in 1952; Lillian who died in 1967; a son, Sheridan Paul Martin; brothers, Robert Leonard Martin in 1950, Glenna Bell Martin LaBrake in 2003, Margaret Elizabeth Martin in 1953; and two other siblings who died very young.

Services will be private and at the convenience of Shirley's family with interment in the family lot in Greenwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to be used according to the wishes of the family through the Heald Funeral Home, 87 So. Main Street, St. Albans, Vt. 05478.

GEMMA RINALDI ZIRKLE

ST. ALBANS -- Mrs. Gemma Rinaldi Zirkle, age 89, died Friday morning, Oct. 17, 2003, at the Haven Health Care Center following an extended illness. She was born in St. Albans, May 12, 1914, daughter of the late Charles and Concetta (Guidi) Rinaldi. She was married to Harold J. Voudrien, who died in 1963. Later, Gemma married Bernard Zirkle, who died in 1978.

Gemma was employed as a clerk at the St. Albans Fruit Company and later at Sanders Drug Store, which became Rixon's Pharmacy. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 1, for over 50 years, and also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Auxiliary Unit 758.

Her survivors include her two daughters, Joan L'Esperance of St. Albans, and Ann White of St. Albans Bay; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Debbie and Dale White of St. Albans, Rachael and Duane Choiniere of Swanton, Pamela and Stephen White of St. Albans, Karen and Mark Capsey of Highgate, Shari Bashaw of St. Albans, Timothy Gingras, Todd and Angel Gingras, all of Highgate, Jean and Douglas Jacques of St. Albans; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons; two sisters, Rina Leach and Mary Hebert, both of St. Albans; a sister-in-law, Georgette Rinaldi of St. Albans; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her sister, Eva Gonyeau; and brother, William Rinaldi; grandson-in-law, James Bashaw; brother and sister-in-law, James and Lena Fallon; and brothers-in-law, Donald Leach, George "Min" Hebert and Howard Gonyeau.

A public Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003, at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church. Visiting hours will be for family members only. Interment will be in the Rinaldi/Zirkle family lot in Holy Cross Cemetery.

THERESA MAY SAVAGE BOUCHARD

HIGHGATE CENTER, Vt./DELTONA, Fla. -- Theresa May Savage Bouchard, age 71, died peacefully at her home Saturday evening, Oct. 11, 2003, surrounded by her loving family following a brief illness. She was born in Swanton, Vt., Nov. 8, 1931, the sixth child of the late Leo and Rena (Raymond) Savage.

Theresa was married to Louis Bouchard of Highgate Center, on Nov. 20, 1948. Together they lived in Swanton and then a few years later moved to Highgate Center where they lived for 26 years and raised their family of four. Since January 1980, Louis and Theresa have resided in Deltona, Fla. Theresa was a devoted wife and mother who were loved by many. She took great pleasure in cooking for her family and friends. She was an accomplished seamstress and especially enjoyed doing embroidery stitchery.

Theresa is survived by her loving and devoted husband Louis Bouchard Sr., of Deltona, Fla.; three daughters, Adele Paquette of Swanton, Suzanne Bouchard of Deltona, Fla., and Mary Jane and her husband Gary Bouchard-Pike of Montgomery Center; and a son, Louis Bouchard, Jr. and his wife Andie of Aplington, Iowa. She also leaves several grandchildren, including Cory Paquette and his wife Tamiko, of Hinckley, Maine, Joe Paquette and his wife Britain, of Enosburg Falls, Laurie Elwood and her husband Travis, of Highgate Falls, Christopher Bombardier of Charlotte, N.C., Scott Bombardier of Deltona, Fla., Chelsea and Jason Bouchard of Aplington, Iowa; and several great-grandchildren, including Monica and Alisa Paquette of Hinckley, Maine, Ariana and Haley Paguette of Enosburg Falls; two sisters, Avis Gaboury and Dorabelle Skeels of St. Albans; and also a very special niece, Rita Bouchard Lagacy of Williston, also survive her.

A Memorial Service and burial will be held on Monday, Oct. 27, 2003, at 11 a.m. at the St. Louis Parish in Highgate Center.

EDRIC A. LOOMIS

SWANTON -- Edric A. Loomis, 84, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003, at the Northwestern Medical Center. He was born in St. Albans, April 22, 1919, the son of the late Elmer R. and Ethel (Anderson) Loomis. On Aug. 28, 1940, Ed married Olive Greene, who died on May 20, 2003.

Ed served his country in the US Marine Corps in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Music was a large part of his life. In 1949 he conducted the Full Messiah in St. Albans City Hall with a full orchestra and chorus. That same year he formed the Citizen's Band which continues today under the direction of his son, Kevin. Ed was also instrumental in the building of the bandstand in Taylor Park. He also formed a swing band, The Commodores, and was a past conductor of the Mount Sinai Shrine Band and played in other local jazz bands and combos. He was choir director for the First Congregational Church of St. Albans for 25 years and more recently a member of the choir at the First Baptist Church of St. Albans.

Ed worked for the Central Vermont Railroad for 30 years, IBM for seven years. and for his son Kevin and his wife Louise at their business, "Total Music" in Swanton. He also served as bookkeeper for local businesses. He was a member of Franklin Lodge 4, F&AM and Mount Sinai Temple 3, AAONMS and Green Mountain Post 1, American Legion.

Survivors include his children, Ferne E. Loomis and her lifetime companion, John McDonald of Victory, Vt., Edric (Rick) Loomis and his wife, Patricia of Snellville, Ga., and Kevin Loomis and his wife, Louise of Highgate; his grandchildren and their spouses, Scott and Darcy Townsend of Lyndonville, Vt., Gayle and Greg Lang of Pawlet, Vt., Howard and Janet Townsend of Erwin, Tenn., Tanya and Troy Rainey of Lyndonville, Vt., Stephanie and Peter Hill of Cumming, Ga., Kimberly and James Raines of Lawrenceville, Ga., Carrie and David Earley of Winder, Ga. and Barry Loomis of Brandon, Fla.; 18 great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Maurice Greene and his wife, Marjorie, and a sister-in-law, Ella Greene; and several nieces and nephews, including Mike McGovern and his wife, Melanie and Nancy L'Ecuyer and her husband, Paul. In addition to his wife he was predeceased by a granddaughter, Pamela Lynn Townsend Regione, a grandson, Dean Townsend; and a sister, Madeline Loomis McGovern.

A funeral service will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. in the First Baptist Church, Congress St., St. Albans, with Pastor William Simmons officiating, assisted by the Reverend Judy Kennedy, Pastor of the First Congregational Church. Interment will be in the family lot in Greenwood Cemetery.

Ed's family will receive friends on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Heald Funeral home, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Missisquoi Valley Rescue, P.O. Box 22, Swanton, Vt. 05488.

ERNEST COVI

FAIRFIELD -- Ernest Covi, age 82, passed away Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003, at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans. He was born Nov. 9, 1920, in Fondo, Italy, the son of the late Giovanni and Erminia (Rauzi) Covi.

Ernest was raised in Italy and served in the Italian Armed Forces during World War II. In 1955, he immigrated to Brooklyn, N.Y. and in 1957 moved his family to Vermont, at which time he was employed as a cheesemaker and later at McKenzies as a butcher. In 1969, he purchased a dairy farm in Fairfield and continued his custom butchering. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fairfield.

Ernest enjoyed hunting, his cats and dogs, especially Twinkie, and making his own sausage.

He is survived by his wife, Louis (Rigos) Covi of Fairfield; they were married in Malosco, Italy on Oct. 3, 1953; three children, John Covi of Fairfield, Lorraine Covi of Burlington, and Ida Covi of Cave Creek, Ariz.; two grandchildren, Stephanie Wheel of Milton and Shane Wheel of San Diego, Calif.; five brothers and sisters, all living in Italy. He was predeceased by two brothers.

Funeral services will be held Saturday morning, Oct. 18, at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fairfield with Reverend Joseph Sullivan celebrating the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. George's Cemetery in Bakersfield.

Friends and relatives may call on the family Saturday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Avenue, Enosburg Falls.
