OLETA BEATRICE DUFFY

ST. ALBANS - Oleta B. Duffy, 84, a lifelong resident of this area, passed away Saturday evening, Nov. 22, 2003 at Redstone Villa. Her family was at her side. She was born in Fairfax, Feb. 1, 1919 the daughter of the late William O. and Winifred (LaFlam) Plumbley.

Mrs. Duffy was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church. She was a secretary for the Sunday School and belonged to Circle 2 of the United Methodist Women. She was also a Den Mother for the Boy Scouts. Her employment included Gladstone's Shoe Store, Dennison's Bakery and the Houghton home. She enjoyed her flower garden and especially her family.

Surviving are her husband, Ethan E. Duffy, of St. Albans, her son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Barbara (Sunderland) Duffy of St. Albans, a sister, Geneva Marlow of Stuart, Florida, two grandchildren, Clayton Duffy and his wife, Natalie, and Matthew Duffy and Great Grand Children, Madison, Sierra and Maxwell Ethan Duffy. She also leaves many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by two sisters, Lucille Mayo and Veronica Mable and a brother, Oscar Plumbley.
Thank you to the staff at Redstone Villa for the exceptional care given to Oleta during her stay.

At Oleta's request funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family with the Reverend Elizabeth Jamieson of the Georgia Plain Baptist Church officiating. There will be no public visitation. Interment will be in the family lot in St. Albans Bay Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Duffy Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Bette Dunsmore, 6604 Ethan Allen Highway, St. Albans, Vt. 05478 to be used for a graduating St Albans Bellows Free Academy Senior, who is seeking further education. Arrangements are by the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main St., St. Albans.

DONNA L. (HATCH) DEGREE

SWANTON - Donna L. (Hatch) Degree, 47, died unexpectedly in Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003.

She was born in Burlington on Jan. 22, 1956, the daughter of Paul and Elizabeth (Palmer) Hatch. Donna graduated from CVU High School in 1975. Oct. 15, 1977, she married Roger G. Degree in Charlotte in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.

Donna at one time had been employed by the Religious Hospitaliers of St. Joseph. She was very fond of all species of animals and had a great passion for wild horses and their welfare.

Donna is survived by her devoted family: her husband of 25 years, Roger G. Degree of Swanton; their three children, Shawn and his wife, Holly, of Swanton, Chad and fiancee Cheri Barber of Winooski, Sara Degree and companion Phil Menard of Sheldon; her adorable granddaughter, Autumn Degree; her mother, Elizabeth "Jean" Hatch of Charlotte; her three sisters and their spouses, Gloria and George Hoyt of Grand Isle, Barbara and Joe Garrison of Swanton, and Rose and Brad Aubin of Charlotte; her three brothers, Paul and David Hatch of Charlotte, and John Hatch and wife Hope of Georgia; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Wayne and Anna Degree of Williston; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her father, Paul Hatch, in 2003.

Visiting hours will be Tuesday, Nov. 25, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Corbin and Palmer Funeral Home, 9 Pleasant St., Essex Junction, with a funeral service at 5 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home. Burial will take place in Maplewood Cemetery in Lincoln at 1 p.m. Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Lifesavers Inc., 23809 East Ave. J, Lancaster, Calif. 93535, an organization that saves the lives of wild horses

ARNOLD PETER CASTONGUAY

RICHFORD - Arnold Peter Castonguay, age 46, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, Nov. 20, 2003 at his home.

He was born April 2, 1957 in Newport, the son of the late, Joseph Ralph Castonguay and Marjorie Rachael (McKinney) Castonguay - Haskell.

Arnold was born and raised in Newport and for the past 10 years had made his home in the Richford area. He had been employed at Queen City Steel in Burlington

He is survived by a son, Aaron Castonguay of Troy, N.Y.; his sister, Mary Brasseur, her partner Dennis LaBounty and her children, Lance, Nicole and Derrick Brasseur all of Morris, N.Y.; a brother, Jeffrey Castonguay of Newport and his children, Ralph, Jeffrey Jr., Ridge and Jack Paul; his stepfather and his wife, Maurice and Janice Haskell of Zepherhills, Fla.; his long time companion of 13 years, Barbara Percy and her son, Shane, who thought of Arnold as his father, both of Richford; his former brother-in-law, Michael Brasseur of Newport Center. Besides his parents he was predeceased by a nephew, Christopher Costonguay.

Arnold will be sadly missed by his family and close friends, they will also miss his laughter

A memorial service will be held Wednesday Nov. 26, 2003 at 11 a.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 140 Main St., Richford with Pastor Dick Walsh officiating. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. at the Irasburg Cemetery in Irasburg, Vt. There will be no visiting hours.

VICTOR PAUL PARAH

FAIRFAX - Victor Paul Parah, 35, a lifelong resident of Fairfax, passed away peacefully early Friday morning, Nov. 21, 2003 at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington. His loving family and friends were at his side.

He was born in St. Albans July 9, 1968 the son of Phillip T. and Shirley E. (Austin) Parah.

Before illness caused him to stop working, Victor was a commercial driver. He drove truck, school bus and taxi. He enjoyed hunting, snowmobiling, cooking and music.

He assisted the "Nasty Habits" rock band as a "Roadie" He was a graduate of Bellows Free Academy in Fairfax. He had been a volunteer for the American Red Cross, a volunteer firefighter for St. Albans Town and Fairfax, an altar server for St. Luke's Catholic Church and a former Fairfax Town Constable.

He will be remembered as always being willing to help anyone in need.

Surviving are his parents, Phillip and Shirley Parah; his maternal grandfather, Irving C. Austin; two sisters, Norma Sprague and her husband, Steven of Hinesburg, and Barbara Parah of St. Albans; a brother, John Parah and his wife, Kathleen of Fairfax; and a nephew, James Sprague of Hinesburg. He was predeceased by a nephew, Kyle A. Parah.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, Nov. 26 at 11:30 a.m. in St. Luke's Catholic Church in Fairfax.

Interment will follow in St. Luke's Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be sent to The Sleep Center at Rutland Regional Medical Center, 160 Allen St. Rutland, Vt. 05701.

Visitation will be on Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main St., St. Albans.

ELAINE N. (BUSHWAY) DELISLE

COLCHESTER - Elaine N. (Bushway) Delisle, 83, formerly of River Road, Colchester died at Northwestern Regional Medical Center, St. Albans on Thursday, Nov. 20, 2003.

She was born in Burlington on Oct. 13, 1920, daughter of Leo and Dorena (Ploof) Bushway. She was the oldest of four children.

Elaine retired from Burlington Convalescent Center in 1977. She had also worked for Degoesbriand Hospital, the Hines Sewing Project on School St., the Brush Shop on Pine St. and the Hotel Van-Ness.

Elaine was predeceased by her husband, James Leo Delisle Sr. on Feb. 27, 1983; her sister, Connie LaBrecque; and her brother Kenneth Bushway.

Elaine is survived by her children, Shirley Foster of Colchester, James L. Delisle Jr. and his wife, Shirley of Colchester, Gary F. Delisle of South Hero; Carolyn Demore and her husband, John of West Brookfield, Ma.; a sister, Pearl LaBrecque and her husband, Norman of Essex Junction; 18 grandchildren; 43 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and her niece, Cindy, whom she raised.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 11 a.m. in Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church, Colchester with interment to follow in Holy Cross Cemetery.

Those who wish may make contributions in Elaine's memory to Holy Cross Senior Housing, 468 Church Rd., Colchester, Vt. 05446.

Arrangements are by Boucher and Pritchard Funeral Directors.

WILL THOMAS LaCROSS

MILTON - Will Thomas LaCross precious beloved newborn son of Gretchen ( Marshall ) and Bill LaCross passed into heaven on his birthday Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2003, following unforeseen complications.

Little Will's creation has had a tremendous impact on so many special people who love him. Although his life on this earth ended before it really began his spirit and our love for him are eternal.

Will's memory will forever be cherished by his parents Gretchen ( Marshall ) and William LaCross; his grandparents Linda and John McNulty, Tom and Linda Marshall, Leona LaCross and Rick Knapp, Donald and Kerri LaCross; his great grandmother Bernice LaPan; his aunts and uncles Tom and Renae Marshall, Erin McNulty, John McNulty Jr., and Willie McNulty; his cousins Zachary Marshall, Tyler Marshall and Alex McNulty.

Also sharing in our loss are his dog, Reagan, many great aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Will Thomas will be laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery in Essex Junction, following a memorial service with his family.
Arrangements were by the Minor Funeral Home in Milton.

JOHN R. "BOB" LUMAN

FAIRFAX - On Wednesday evening, Nov. 19, 2003, God sent John Robert "Bob" Luman on a walk with his wife, Bernice, once again while at his home in Fairfax.

He was born in Milton on Jan. 3, 1920, son of the late Fred and Mary (Cameron) Luman. Bob married the former Bernice LeMay. She predeceased him on June 28, 1997.

He served his country well as a WWII veteran from 1940 to 1945 while with the Army National Guard which was mobilized to the U.S. Army during the war. Following his honorable discharge, Bob became a dedicated locomotive engineer with Central Vermont Railway from 1946 until his retirement in 1984 having engineered everything from the Big Boy steam engine to the fast Bullet Train.

He was a 35-plus year member of the Robert Glidden Post #578 VFW and Green Mountain Post #1, American Legion, and the Central Vermont Railway Locomotive Engineer Association.

Bob will be tremendously missed by the Fairfax community, especially all of the children who could find him wearing his engineers hat while walking the neighborhood with a pocket full of candy for the kids.

He was a very kind man who would never speak ill of others. His unconditional love and attention for his family, friends and neighbors will be fondly remembered by all those who knew and loved him.

He is survived by, one son, Robert C. "Gubby" Luman of Fairfax; one daughter, Beverly Raburn of Las Vegas, Nev.; two brothers, Raymond "Peanut" Luman and his wife, Helga, of Willingboro, N.J., Herman Edward "Tinker" Luman and his wife, Lillian, of Richford; one sister, Lillian Robtoy of St. Albans; three grandchildren, Michael Raburn and his wife, Stacey, and their son, Ryan, all of Anchorage, Alaska, April Martin of Las Vegas, Nev., Robert C. "Robbie" Luman Jr. of Anchorage, Ala.; one great grandchild, Joshua Martin of Las Vegas, Nev., several nieces, nephews and cousins, including a very special nephew, Donald Luman, and his wife, Lynn, and their children, Robert Luman, and Joshua VanBenthuysen of Fairfax.

He was also predeceased by two brothers, Fred and Frank Luman; one sister, Alice Gray; a grandniece, Kristina Luman.

Visiting hours were held at the Hayes-Rich Funeral Home on Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003 from 6 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial was to be celebrated in St. Luke's Catholic Church, Fairfax today, Monday, Nov. 24, 2003. at 11 a.m. with Reverend Douglas Hawkins officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot in St. Luke Cemetery, Fairfax where full military honors will be afforded the WWII veteran.

Memorial contributions may be made in Bob's memory to BFA Fairfax, c/o The Original Baseball Field Lighting Fund, 75 Hunt St. Fairfax, Vt. 05454. Arrangements are by Hayes-Rich Funeral Home, 1176 Main St, Fairfax.

E. WARD MENARD

GREENVILLE, N.C. - E. Ward Menard, 82, died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2003 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital.

A Mass of Christian Burial was to be conducted Monday, today, at 11 a.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church. Entombment was to follow in the mausoleum at Pinewood Memorial Park.

Mr. Menard, a native of St. Albans, Vt., was a graduate of Notre Dame University. He served in the United States Air Force in World War II and Korea. Having been employed with Union Carbide for 35 years, he made his home in several states including Ohio, Pennsylvania and North Carolina. Upon his retirement in 1981 he returned to Greenville, where he was an active member and volunteer at St. Peter's Catholic Church.

Mr. Menard is survived by his wife of 57 years, June S. Menard; two daughters, Gail Elizabeth Taylor and her husband, Jay, of Fargo, N.D., and Marie Jeanette Easley and her husband, Richard, of Marietta, Ga.; two grandchildren, Amy Schulz Gibson and her husband Dan, and Erica Schulz, all of Fargo, N.D.; a sister, Jeanette M. Bombardier of St. Albans, Vt.; and a brother, John F. Menard of Winston-Salem, N.C.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Peter's Catholic Church, 2700 E. 4th Street, Greenville, N.C. 27858.
