FRANCES WHIPPLE KISSANE

SHELBURNE/ST. ALBANS - After celebrating a wonderful Christmas with all of her St. Albans family and knowing that her boys were together with their families on a skiing holiday in Banff, Frannie returned to her home at Shelburne Bay. Shortly after her return home she developed some breathing difficulties and, on Monday night, after assuring us that she "welcomed death" and with peacefulness, she died, just the way she wanted to.

Frannie was born and raised with her twin brother, DeForest, and their sister, Mary (Clark), in Rochester, N.Y. She was predeceased by both. She was born May 4, 1916, the daughter of the late Dr. Edward Whipple and Delia (Thompson) Whipple. After attending kindergarten training school in New York City, she returned to Rochester and worked in her father's medical office. As a child, she summered at Lake Titus in Malone, N.Y., where she met and later married John Kissane, and settled in St. Albans, Vt., where they raised their family of three children. In St. Albans she was a devoted mother and wife, and an active member of the First Congregational Church, the Kerbs Hospital Auxiliary, the Autonoe club, and school PTA's. In 1969, she returned to her Rochester family and life with old friends there, eventually returning to St. Albans to be closer to Gail and her family for her senior years.

She will be remembered as a happy, charming and playful friend, a loving and devoted Mom, and a dear grandmother. Each of us has a story of fun times with her and her joyful, witty spirit, and wonderful sense of humor. She was always able to find a way to "make the best of it." She did not want to be old and courageously and lovingly prepared her kids for her death. We always knew she was proud of us and loved us "deeply" as she reminded us in the end.

Frannie leaves her daughter, Gail Grismore Camisa and her husband, Bob, and her children, Hilary and John Grismore and John's wife, Melissa and their children, Alexander and Julia; two sons, E.D. "Ted" Kissane and his wife, Karen, and their daughters, Lynsey and Courtney, of Banff, Alberta, and J. G. "Jack" Kissane, Jr. and his wife, Rebecca, and their children, J.G. "Trey", and Erin Kissane, all of Dallas, Texas, and her former husband, John Kissane and his wife, Colleen, of St. Albans.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, at 2 p.m. in the First Congregational Church in St. Albans. Pastor Judith Kennedy will officiate. The family will receive friends in the church parlors following the funeral. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be sent to Northwestern Medical Center, P.O. Box 1370, St. Albans, Vt., 05478. Arrangements are by the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main St., St. Albans.
