CODY SCOTT BESAW

GEORGIA -- Our sweet Cody Scott Besaw, loving three month old son of K. Brian and Kara Lynn (Palm) Besaw, died unexpectedly on Monday Dec. 22, 2003, at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans.

Cody was born on Sept. 4, 2003, in St. Albans at the Northwestern Medical Center.

Cody will be deeply missed by his loving parents, Brian and Kara Besaw of Georgia; his maternal grandparents, Warren and Diana Palm of Milton; his paternal grandparents, Carolyn Besaw of Las Vegas, Nev., and K. Roger and Shari Besaw of Oakwood, Ga.; by his maternal great-grandmother, Bernice Palm of Chicago, Ill., his paternal great-grandparents, Keith Besaw of Starksboro, Vt. and Ruth Lathop of Bristol, Vt.; by his aunts and uncles, Tammy and Gregg Denton of Cornwall, Vt., Eric Palm of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Candace and Brian Solomon and their daughter, cousin Anna of Georgia, Vt., and by several great-aunts, uncles and cousins.

Even though Cody was here such a short time, he was dearly loved. We'll never know whether he would have played baseball, hockey or hunted with his Dad, but Mom always knew that he would have been a country boy like his Dad. He will be deeply missed and always loved by those he touched.

Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, Dec. 27, 2003, from
1 to 3 p.m. with a Service for Cody at 2:30 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton. Burial will be in the spring at the convenience of the family.

For those who wish, memorials may be made to the Northwestern Medical Center, Family Birthing Center, c/o Nursing Manager Stephanie O'Brien, P.O. Box 1370, St. Albans, Vt. 05478, or to a charity of one's choice.

A very special thank you to his new friend Jessica -- we know you loved him and he loved you.

Arrangements were by the Minor Funeral Home in Milton.

LAURA E. CORWELL

SHELDON -- Laura E. Corwell, age 87, passed away Wednesday evening, Dec. 24, 2003, at the Holiday House Nursing Home in St. Albans.

She was born in Sheldon on Feb. 15, 1916, the daughter of the late Daniel and Bernice (Horner) Johnson.

On Aug. 9, 1936, she was married to Lloyd John Corwell whom she loved very dearly for 40 years and continued to love after his death, Sept. 22, 1973.

She was a member of the Sheldon Methodist Church. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed growing flowers and working on her lawn.

She is survived by a son, Douglas Corwell of St. Albans; four brothers, Albert Johnson, Raymond Johnson both of Milton, Wayne Johnson of Newbern, N.C., and Ivan Johnson of Swanton; three sisters, Dorothy Machia of Sheldon, Maxine Barney of Swanton, and Shirley Burns of Highgate; and several nieces and nephews. She also leaves a dear friend, Dawn Quick and her family of Swanton; and a special cousin, Stephen Dunton of Milton. Besides her husband she was predeceased by four brothers, Donald, Chauncey, Harold, and Daniel Jr.

In keeping with Laura's wishes there will be no visiting hours or funeral service. Interment will take place at the convenience of the family next spring in the family lot at the Sheldon Village Cemetery.

ARNOLD H. JOYAL

JOHNSON -- Arnold H. Joyal, 74 of Johnson, died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003, at the Haven Health Extended Care Facility in St. Albans following a long illness.

Arnold was born May 22, 1929, in Bakersfield, the son of the late Francis and Wilba Dezotell Joyal. He worked as a lumber yard attendant for the Bell Gates Company in Jeffersonville for over 30 years.

He is survived by his brother, William Joyal and his wife Carolyn of Hartford, Conn.; and his two sisters, Maxine Horner and her husband Thomas of Milton and Doris Metevier and her husband Leonard also of Milton. He is also survived by his four nephews, Douglas Edwards and his family of Fairfax and Robert, Gary and James Metevier and their families all of Milton; and his Uncle, Mike Dezotell of Richford; as well as several cousins.

A Graveside Committal Service will be held in the spring at the convenience of the family in the Belvidere Cemetery. There will be no visiting hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Arrangements are by the Minor Funeral Home of Milton.

ELIZABETH A. MESSIER

ST. ALBANS -- Mrs. Elizabeth A. "Bess" Messier, age 81, died Sunday afternoon, Dec. 21, 2003, at the Northwestern Medical Center. She was born in Sheldon, April 20, 1922, daughter of the late Zeffra and Annie (Fleury) Goodman.

She was employed in patient accounting at the Mary Fletcher Hospital for several years. Bess was a charter member of the Chittenden County Business and Professional Women's Club, joining in 1970 and later transferred to the Franklin County B.P.W. while serving with the Chittenden Chapter she was a Legislative Chairman, Secretary of Public Relations, Vice President of World Affairs and delegate to the state convention in Woodstock. She was the finance chairperson, World Affairs Chairperson and Personal Development Chairperson. Bess was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 1 of St. Albans.

She was married on June 20, 1942, to Norbert P. Messier. Mr. Messier died Dec. 20, 1969.

Her survivors include her two sons, Gary and his wife Sandra Messier of Vanzant, Mo., Gregory Messier of St. Albans; daughter-in-law, Vanessa Messier of St. Albans; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Tammy and Scott Richard, Randy and Stephanie Messier, John and Cindy Messier, Christopher and Deborah Messier, Nicole and Brian Russell, Sarah Messier and Justin Messier; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Charlene Moss of St. Albans, Rosemary and her husband Donald Lumbra of West Fairlee; a special friend, Jean Woodward of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Brady & Levesque Chapel. Friends may call at the funeral home, 86 South Main St., from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. Interment will be in Resurrection Park, South Burlington.

Memorials may be made to the Franklin County Humane Society, 30 Sunset Meadows, St. Albans, Vt. 05478, or the Franklin County Home Health Agency, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, Vt. 05478.

ROGER P. MOREAU

O'FALLON, Mo. - Roger P. Moreau, 58, died Dec. 22 at St. Joseph Health Center in St. Charles, Mo.

He was born on Nov. 26, 1945, in Springfield, Mass., son of the late Henry and Cecile Moreau. He was married to Elizabeth Moreau, of O'Fallon, who survives him.

Mr. Moreau was a highway design technician who was employed for eight years by the Missouri Dept. of Transportation in Chesterfield. He attended St. Paul Catholic Church and was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus.

In addition to his wife, Elizabeth, survivors include, daughters, Nicole R. Moreau of O'Fallon and Sarah K. Moreau of St. Paul, Mo.; a son, Matthew H. Moreau of Troy, Mo.; brothers Paul Moreau of Springfield, Mass., John Moreau of Concord, N.H., Andre Moreau of San Antonio, Texas, and Philip Moreau of Shrewsbury, Mass.; sisters, Denise Moreau, of Springfield, Mass. and Michelle Upton of Stewartstown, Pa.; and a step-sister, Sally Lemnah of St. Albans, Vt.

A funeral service will be held at St. Paul Catholic Church in St. Paul, Mo. at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2003. Interment will be in St. Paul Cemetery.

Visitation is today from 4 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Baue Funeral Home in O'Fallon, Mo.

Memorials may be sent to the Baue Funeral Home, 311 Wood St., O'Fallon, Mo. 63366. Those who wish may make donations to the Multiple Myeloma Foundation

GERMAINE M. BENOIT

ST. ALBANS/LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- Mrs. Germaine M. Benoit, age 97, died Monday afternoon, Dec. 15, 2003, at her home in Las Vegas. She was born in Montreal, Quebec, Aug. 27, 1906, daughter of the late Piere and Aldea (LeFrancois) Blanchette. She was a saleslady at M. H. Fishman Store, in St. Albans for over 25 years, retiring in 1977.

She was married to Arthur Benoit.

Her survivors include her two daughters, Pauline Bushey of Williston, and Dorothy Carabine of Las Vegas; her only surviving sister, Blanche Gignac of St. Albans; 30 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by five of her children, Henry C. Boivin, Liona Polister, Cecile Nugent, Lucille Girard and Joseph "Roger" Boivin.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003, in Holy Angels Church. Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St. from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday. Interment will be in the Blanchette/Benoit family lot in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

HARVEY E. CROSS SR.

STARKSBORO / MILTON -- Harvey Eugene Cross Sr., 61, died Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003, at his home in Starksboro, surrounded by his loving family. Harvey was born on March 12, 1942, in Colchester, the son of Eugene and Elizabeth (Barrows) Cross.

He had lived most of his life in Milton, before moving to Starksboro two years ago. He married Samantha Stone on Oct. 24, 1987 in Milton.

He had been employed by Pike Industries since 1989 as a tanker driver. He had retired in 2001 due to his declining health.
Harvey enjoyed his grandchildren, especially his special grandsons Cole Eugene and Tyler (T.J.). He enjoyed working on cars, and bowling with the Milton Bowling League, which he did for several years, as well as four wheeling, snowmobiling and hunting with his son Butch.

In addition to his wife Samantha, Harvey is survived by his children Roger Church and Autumn Church, both of Starksboro, Harvey Cross Jr. and Holly Blaisdell, both of Milton; six grandchildren; his mother, Elizabeth Cross of Milton; his special aunt, Frances Blow of Milton; special cousins, Arlon and Carolyn Cross of Milton; his brother-in-laws, Arnold Gardner of Highgate and Larry Stone of St. Albans; and by many cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Eugene, in 1999; and his godfather, uncle John Cross in 2003.

Special thanks to Dr. James Evans and nurse Candi Gingras and the staff at the Essex Health Center for the excellent care given to Harvey during his illness.

Funeral services were held today, Dec. 22, 2003, in the Minor Funeral Home at 11 am. with Father John G. Feltz officiating. Burial will be in St. Ann's Cemetery in the spring.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Franklin County, 30 Sunset Meadow, St. Albans, Vt. 05478.

Visiting hours were held on Monday morning from 9 a.m. until the hour of the Service in the Minor Funeral Home, Rt. 7 in Milton.
