JOHN F. WEBSTER, ESQ.

ST. ALBANS -- Honorable Judge (Ret.) John F. Webster, age 72, died Thursday evening, Dec. 11, 2003, in the Fletcher Allen Hospital. He was born in St. Albans, April 30, 1931, son of the late John H. Webster, Esq., and Florence Marion (Sweeney) Webster.

John graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1949, the University of Vermont in 1953, and earned his law degree from Cornell University. He passed the Vermont Bar in 1956 and served in the U. S. Army. and National Guard. Upon return to St. Albans he joined John Kissane and Arthur Heald in their law firm, later he joined offices with Ted Tyler in the legal office of Webster and Tyler. In 1980 John ran successfully for Franklin County Probate Judge, an office he held until illness forced his retirement on Nov. 1, 1994. Besides the Franklin County Bar Association and the Vermont State Bar Association, John was a member of the American Legion Post 1 and the Owl Club of St. Albans. John very proudly celebrated over 26 years of sobriety.

John enjoyed his camp, fishing, spending time with his family, a few winter seasons in Florida and his many coffee buddies. He was a very caring person to all, especially his canine companions.

On Sept. 2, 1978, he married Norma Rushford Sweeny. Besides his wife of over 25 years, John is survived by his daughters, Karen and her husband John Walsh, Kimberley and Tony Wyman all of Port Charlotte, Fla.; his granddaughters Amanda Walsh, Megan Walsh, Lindsey Wyman and Korie Wyman; he was very fond of his step-children Kathy and Patrich O'Donnell of Barre and John and Wende Sweeny of St. Albans, their children Karen and Gary Shaneberger, Kevin O'Donnell, Kelly and Matt Bruneau; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Atty. John H. Webster in 1955; and his mother, Florence Marion Webster Davisson in 1994.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated today (Monday) at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church. Friends called at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St. from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Interment was in the Webster family lot in Holy Cross Cemetery.

Arrangements are entrusted to his friends at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.

DEBBIE ANN MILLER

SWANTON / BURLINGTON -- Debbie Ann Miller, 40, a native of the Burlington area and a resident of Fourth Street in Swanton Village since 1990, died Thursday morning, Dec. 11, 2003, in the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans City.

Born in Burlington, March 5, 1963, she was the daughter of Harold and Virginia (White) Miller. She attended Burlington schools and graduated from Burlington High School in the Class of 1981.

Debbie will always be remembered living as an adventurous spirit. She loved riding motorcycles and playing pool and in earlier years had won second place in the Vermont Pool Tournament. She was a very devoted, loving and caring mother who always put her children before anything else.

Debbie leaves her mother, Mrs. Virginia Miller and her grandmother, Mrs. Marguerite White both of Bristol; two children, Crystal Bluto of Grand Isle and Jonathan Miller Hale of Swanton; her brothers and sisters, Denise Hale and her husband Scott of Swanton, with whom Debbie made her home since 1990, and their daughter Jennifer Benoit, her husband Brian and their son Austin all of Highgate, Bonnie Chandler of Burlington, Eddie Miller and his wife Wendy of Essex and their son Sean, Gerry Miller of Burlington, David Miller of Bristol, Laurie Roberts, her husband Cliff of Florida, and their children, Rebecca, Christine and Jessie, Thomas Miller, his wife Kelly of Florida, and their son Thomas, and Lynn Field and her husband Arthur of Middlebury and their children Anthony and Alexander. Also surviving are special friends, Bernie Bluto of Burlington and Kevin Robar of Swanton, as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was predeceased by her father, Harold Miller, in 1999; and two nephews, Gregory Manchester Jr. in 1974 and Steven Manchester Hale in 1995.

A funeral service will be celebrated Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2003, at 11 a.m. from Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 38 Canada Street, Swanton. The Rector, Father Donald Morris will officiate. Interment will take place Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the family lot in Mountain View Cemetery Sandhill Road, Essex Center. There will be no public calling hours.

Debbie's family will greet friends at a luncheon reception following the service and prior to the interment in Holy Trinity Fellowship Hall.

Gifts in Debbie's memory may be made to Missisquoi Valley Rescue, P.O. Box 22, Swanton, Vt. 05488.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton.

JEROME A. BUSHEY

NORTH CANAAN, Conn. - Jerome A. Bushey, 90, of South Canaan Road, died Saturday, Nov. 29, at Greer Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Canaan. He was the husband of Catherine (Casey) Bushey.

Mr. Bushey was born May 31, 1913, in East Highgate, Vt., the son of the late Royal and Cora (Raymond) Bushey. He was educated in Vermont and was a truck driver for Jones and Sones Trucking of St. Albans, Vt. He served with the Civilian Conservation Corps during World War II. He worked as a caretaker for Camp Sloan in Lakeville and lived in Sharon for many years.

Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Jerome A. Bushey of Deltona, Fla.; two daughters, Mary Lyn Kruse of Deltona, Fla., and Joan Wilbur of Sharon; three brothers, Donald Bushey of Bakersfield, Vt., and Ralph and Clifton Bushey, both of Swanton, Vt.; three sisters, Evelyn Thibault of Swanton, Vt., Dorothy LeBeau of Highgate Center, Vt., and Hazel Trahan of Canaan; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Mass was held Tuesday, Dec. 2, at 10 a.m., at St. Joseph's Church, Canaan. Burial was private, in Hillside Cemetery, Canaan. Arrangements were by Kenny Funeral Home in Sharon. FRANCES MAY GILLETTE

ST. ALBANS / FAIRFAX -- Frances May Gillette, 92, a resident of this area for the past 12 years, passed away peacefully early Thursday morning, Dec. 11, 2003, at Haven Health Center following a lengthy illness. She was born in Fairfax, Jan. 19, 1911, the daughter of the late Delbert D. and Winnie (Minkler) Howard. She was the widow of William G. Gillette who died in 1939.

Mrs. Gillette worked as a Practical Nurse in hospitals and in home care. She lived in Waterbury, Conn. until moving here in 1990. She belonged to the Second Congregational Church in Waterbury, Conn. She loved to bake, sew, knit, and work in her garden.

Survivors include her three children, Eleanor Trainor of Willimatic, Conn., Marjorie Columb and her husband, Cedric of Swanton, Vt., and William H. Gillette and his wife, Judy of Sheldon Springs, Vt.; two sisters, Ila Smalley of Middletown, Conn., and Jane Decker of St. Albans. She also leaves eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, William, she was predeceased by a son, Ralph Gillette; sisters, Edna Bailey and Helen Yandow; brothers, Raymond, Fay and John Howard; and two great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, Dec. 15, at 2 p.m. in the Heald Funeral Chapel. Pastor Judith Kennedy of the First Congregational Church in St. Albans will officiate. Interment will be next spring in the family lot in Sanderson Corners Cemetery in Fairfax.

ALFRED RICHARD MARTIN

HIGHGATE FALLS -- Alfred Richard Martin, 66, a native of Alburg and more recently of Park Street in Highgate Falls, died in his home early Thursday morning, Dec. 11, 2003, following a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Alburg, Oct. 13, 1937, the son of the late, George Alfred and Louella (Bohannon) Martin.

Alfred attended Alburg schools and was employed most of his working life as a farmer associated with the Robert Cleland Farm in Alburg and the Stanley Kittell Farm in Sheldon. In earlier years he had been associated with the Central Vermont Railroad and the former Union Carbide Corporation of Saint Albans. He was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Swanton.

He leaves two sons, David Martin of Burlington and George Martin of Alburg; four daughters, Roberta Stetson and her husband Arthur of Georgia, Linda Bergeron and her husband John of Middlebury, Dorothy Martin of Highgate Falls and Deborah Cook of Franklin and her husband Buddy of Alburg; three brothers, Edwin Martin and his wife Janice of Highgate Springs, Donald Martin of Port Charlotte, Florida and Charles Martin and his wife Lori of Highgate Falls; four sisters, Marie Flood of Lancaster, Alfreda Gagnon of Swanton, Dina Parah and her husband Gerald of St. Albans and Marilyn Guinard and her husband Michel of Highgate Center. He also leaves 17 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by one brother, Leonard Martin and four sisters, Audrey Lachappelle, Edna Anna Mae Joyce Martin, Alma Verville and Evelyn (Martin) Johnson.

A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, Dec. 19, 2003, at 11 a.m. from the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton. The Reverend Donald R. Morris, Rector of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church will officiate. Cemetery conditions permitting interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton on Sunday, Dec. 14, 2003, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Gifts in Alfred's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, New England Division, Inc., 11 Loomis Street, Montpelier, Vt. 05602-3021.

LYLE A. BISSONNETTE

JACKSONVILLE Fla. / ST. ALBANS -- Mr. Lyle A. Bissonnette, age 82, died Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, at his home in Jacksonville, Fla., after a lengthy illness. He was born in Highgate, Vt., April 14, 1921, son of the late Arthur and Alidia (Bray) Bissonnette.

He attended Holy Angels School. He married Lucille Smith on April 16, 1941. Shortly after being married, Lyle was called to served in the U. S. Army during World War II in Korea from 1943 to 1946. He worked at the St. Albans Grain Company before moving to Connecticut. There he worked for the Uniroyal Chemical Co., before moving to Florida. He operated Biz's Services Station in Jacksonville Fla., from 1973 to 1980, and then was a mail courier for the American National Bank and the South Trust Bank retiring in 1999. He was a 3rd Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus, Father Griffin Class of 1956 Council, a volunteer firefighter for the Naugatuck Fire Dept. in Connecticut.

He leaves his wife of 62 years, Lucille of Jacksonville, Fla.; a daughter, Nancy Hanson and her husband Andrew of Naugatuck, Conn.; two grandchildren, Gregg and his wife Alicia Gabriel Hanson and Margaret Rose Hanson; a brother and sister-in-law, Donat and Mary Bissonnette of St. Albans; a sister, Jeanne Parenteau of Lyndonville; a brother-in-law, Thomas and his wife Barbara Smith of Sun City Fla.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Eugene "Geno" and Henry Bissonnette; and two sisters, Claudia Chevrier and Exilda Murray.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, at 10 a.m. in Holy Angels Church. Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main Street, St. Albans, from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday. Interment will be in the Smith/Bissonnette family lot in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the St. Vincent Ferrer Church, New Haven Rd., Naugatuck, Conn. 06770, or in Florida, to St. Joseph's Church Cody Family Center, St. Augustine Rd., Jacksonville, FL 32223. Arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home. CHARLES "CHUCK" D. MACHIA

FLETCHER -- Charles "Chuck" Dalton Machia, 53, passed away at his home in Fletcher on Dec. 10, 2003, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in St. Albans on Oct. 8, 1950, son of Dalton and Grace (Gillin) Machia.

Chuck had a heart as big as the green mountains where he worked, played, loved and made maple syrup in the spring. Sports were a constant part of his life. Chuck coached several sports teams including youth baseball, basketball, and skiing. He was a member of the Fairfax baseball and basketball teams for many years. Golf and hunting were also favorites. Chuck taught for eight years at BFA Fairfax before working at IBM for 22 years. As his health declined he worked as long as he was able to.

All of his life Chuck was dedicated to his family above all else. He had an incredible strength that served him well as a provider and teacher.

He is survived by his wife, Roberta (Stratton) Machia of Fletcher; his parents, Dalton and Grace Machia of St. Albans; three sons, Charles Machia II of Fletcher, Aaron Machia of Fletcher, and Zachary Machia of Fletcher; a step-daughter, Michelle Palmer of Burlington; two brothers, Michael Machia and his wife Lorrie of Franklin, and Thomas Machia and his wife Mary of St. Albans; a sister, Sara Hurtabise and her husband Hoyt of Richford; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins; and many close friends.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Hayes-Rich Funeral Home. A memorial mass will be celebrated Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, at 11 a.m. in St. Luke's Church, Fairfax with the Revered Francis Connors officiating. Inurnment will be in the spring.

Memorial contributions may be made in Chuck's memory to Franklin County Home Health & Hospice, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, Vt. 05478, or Fairfax Rescue Squad, Inc. P.O. Box 228, Fairfax, Vt. 05454. Arrangements are by Hayes-Rich Funeral Home, 1176 Main St., Fairfax.

TIMOTHY G. MAYOTTE

BERKSHIRE -- Timothy G. Mayotte, age 49, passed away unexpectedly as the result of a heart attack, Dec. 8, 2003, shortly after arrival at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans.

He was born in St. Albans May 21, 1954, the son of Ralph and Hattie (Paxman) Mayotte.

Tim was a life long resident of Berkshire and Richford and was a 1972 graduate of Richford High School. He owned and operated Tim Mayotte Construction for the past 25 years and prior to that he was employed at Wrights Dairy and A.C. Vaillancourt both in Enosburg Falls. He was a member of VAST Missisquoi Bearcats Club.

Tim enjoyed snowmobiling and hunting and most of all he loved to spend time with his family at their land.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly (Barnes) Mayotte, of Berkshire, they were married Jan. 20, 1989; his children, Rossie Leigh Mayotte and Ethan George Mayotte both at home; his parents, Ralph and Hattie Mayotte of Richford; his sister and her husband, Jane and Marc Lariviere of Richford; his nephew, Nicholas Boylan of Richford; his mother-in-law, Marilyn Marshall of Enosburg Falls; his father-in-law, Robert Barnes Sr. and his special friend, Myrna Flanigan of Highgate; his brothers-in-law and their wives, Robert and Cynthia Barnes of Enosburg, and William and Crystal Barnes of Berkshire; a sister-in-law, Judy Babcock of Toledo, Ohio.; several nieces and nephews, Ashley and Cody Barnes, Sonya Devon Barnes, Lonnie and Joshua Muller, Chris and Cory Babcock, and several aunts, uncles and cousins, and many friends. He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents whom were very special to Tim, George and Hazel Paxman; also, his paternal grandparents, Edward and Mary Mayotte.

Funeral services will be held Saturday morning, Dec. 13, 2003, at 10 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Enosburg Falls with Reverend Benedict Kiely celebrating the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Enosburg Falls.

Visiting hours will be held Friday evening from 6 to 9 at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls.

MARSHAL A. MOON

GRAND ISLE -- Marshal A. Moon, 84, died late Monday night, Dec. 8, 2003, at his home, with his family by his side. Marshal was born in North Adams, Mass., on Oct. 12, 1919, the son of Charles and Beatrix (Murray) Moon.

He began his working career at the young age of 14, working in the Government organized CC Camps. As an adult, he was instrumental in starting Supertemp. He worked briefly for HAVAC and was the Plant Manager of Thermo Wire and Electronics of So. Hero when he retired.

On Oct. 20, 1956, Marshal married G. Mary Tourville in Burlington.

In addition to Mary, he is survived by his children, Gary Tourville and his wife Darlene of South Hero, Paul Tourville and his wife Barbara Moore of Oklahoma; by his grandchildren, Rebecca Corkins and her husband Brian, Jennifer, John, Matt, Mike, Thomas, and Maria; by his great-grandson Jacob Corkins; his sisters, Bernice Walker, Elizabeth Lauzon, Julia Dwyer, and Beatrice Schmitt all of Massachusetts; and by many nieces and nephews, and special family, Mary Sue and Fred Jageman of Florida.

Friends may call on the family on Friday, Dec. 12, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, at 10 a.m. in the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in South Hero. Burial will be in the South Hero Cemetery in the spring.
